I had a great experience at the Albertsons on Hollister Ave in Goleta. The store is very well-maintained and the employees are super friendly. Employee came out and suddenly said "I don't need you to shop here anymore. Don't shop here again!" I mentioned it to all the friendly staff I'm familiar with and they said "oh that guy. Hands down some of the worst customer service I've experienced. The "manager?" ( a short weathered Hispanic Woman in her late 40-50's)is openly rude, talks down to customers, and makes disrespectful comments about them instead of handling issues professionally. It's uncomfortable, unnecessary, and completely unacceptable in a customer-facing role. What's even worse is how DoorDash and Uber drivers are treated--dismissed, belittled, and spoken to like they're a problem rather than part of the business. That kind of behavior shows a serious lack of respect and leadership. If this is how management behaves, it explains a lot. Not to mention a very small selection of things to buy. The meat counter has food that just looks old and gross, small selection of meats. She had an absolutely ugly attitude and was visibly frustrated. She was having issues weighing items trying to say she cannot do it then asked if the gentleman spoke any English. I work near Albertsons, and I always shop there during lunch or after work. However, as of today, I've decided I will no longer shop there. Today was the last straw. After work, I stopped by to pick up something I needed for dinner. I went straight to the Deli and Bakery for the most important ingredient. There was a lady in front of me, so I waited, assuming I would be next to be served. Another staff member arrived and asked if I needed help. When I told them what I wanted, they directed me to wait for the staff member who was already helping the lady in front of me. While I was waiting, another customer arrived behind me, and instead of assisting me, the staff member who initially offered to help skipped over me and helped the customer behind me instead. This was clearly disrespectful service, and it's not the first time I've been treated this way at this store. As of today, I will never shop at this Albertsons location (7127 Hollister Ave #27) again. read more

BE VIGILANT ABOUT CHECKING EXPIRATION DATES OF EVERYTHING This is my neighborhood store and it's almost always a disappointment. The checkers are so nice! That's about all I can say! But the stock in store is so-so to bad. And the the dairy section is DISGUSTING. In the decade I've shopped at this store, I don't think the milk racks and base of the milk section has ever been cleaned. There is so much old milk crusted on the shelves and at the base of the racks it's just EWWWWW. I'm always so sad when I need milk but Costco is closed because that means i have to buy it here. Over the past few years and as recently as yesterday while shopping, the gallons of milk are often picked over and typically the "best buy" date is that day or the next day. On a recent past trip the only available organic sour cream was "best by" a week in the past. I've purchased expired refrigerated salsa as well that remained stocked when I forgot to check. It had fermented practically! It's almost like they're hoping for you to buy an expired product and not feel like returning it is worth the effort. read more

Service is terrible. I came in a little before 4 pm on Wednesday and this kid working at the register had zero customer service or communication skills. He did not greet me and whenI said I don't need the receipt he didn't even look at me or respond and I repeated it again and he still didn't say anything. I got a head of butter lettuce that was on sale for $1.99, but it scanned for $2.99. The guy who ringed up my grocery started to make impossibru faces and made me walked to the vegetable section with him for a price check. Then an older woman showed up. She ripped off the sign for butter lettuce $1.99 and pointed to the sign for green leaf lettuce $2.99 and insisted that the butter lettuce should be ringed up for that. Josh specifically is a nuisance to this location. It's the Fourth of July so I can understand being upset about working but he went out of his way to spread his negativity. First of all he was mopping almost directly at our feet and it felt very impatient. The customers in front of me also seemed dissatisfied with his poor attitude as he threw all their groceries in a sloppy manner. When it was our turn, the disrespect continued. He snatched my friends ID out of her hand rudely when she was paying for alcohol and I couldn't believe it! We were also purchasing eggs and after seeing how he treated all of our other groceries (not to mention things in glass containers) we literally had to tell him to be careful. The Self-Checkout stations are way too micromanaged, honestly they should just get rid of them. I don't entirely blame the staff for this, plenty of people get confused and take too long with the self-checkout. Like seriously, they would be faster if they had a clerk help. But for others who prefer self-checkout...I hate being bugged. Beer/alcohol selection is actually really good here. That's got to be a good thing for some people. Lot's of craft beer, I've noticed that Albertsons in general is very good about that. Produce is hit or miss. Although this store is physically very close, I try to avoid it like the plague. They are NOT good about cleaning their shopping carts. In fact, I couldn't even find hand sanitizer at the entrance the last time I went in! When they had been cleaning carts, their employees did a terrible job. I'm always fearful of going into this store for fear of contracting COVID-19. I'd much rather shop at Trader Joe's (they clean the best and are the most personable) or Sprouts. Many of their employees seem disenfranchised. Many of them seem to spend more time conversing with one another than doing work. The exception is their produce department which always looks wonderful. The man in his +/-30's(?) who works there is always so helpful and a delight. I'd clone this guy man and replace most of the other employees with him. read more

I come here a lot but have never been able to find bagels. I don't mean bakery bagels (which are amazing) but normal bagged bagels. I have been here many times as this is my local grocery store. But they are gate keeping the bagels. Get rid of the wine and add bagels please before I start going to smart and final. Service is good ambience is fine. Also make your cream cheese in one of the back walls. I don't get why it's next to the cheeses and not the milks. read more

Albertson's is fine! I have had some bad staff experiences and some good ones. And they pretty much have the groceries I am looking for. I love the main seafood guy who works here - a tall, middle-aged bald fellow, although I haven't seen him my last few trips. He has given me awesome advice about how to cook different seafood ingredients - he has real experience! I also like the wine tasting guy who is usually here on the weekends. Today I received really good service from the prepared foods bar kid as well. I asked for big pieces, and he searched until he selected the 4 hugest pieces in the tray. Also today, I got good bagging service. I provided my bags, and the bagger put the hard, packaged items on the bottom, followed by greens and soft squishy items. Chips and tomatoes on top. Bravo! In the past, I have usually received the most nonsensical, destructive bagging service imaginable here. Things like putting bananas beneath a pickle jar, eggs sideways, stuffing and shoving down loose greens and herbs into a compressed space... So when I see a few key characters waiting at the end of the aisle, I tell them I'll bag my own stuff. Regarding inventory, they have a cute little imports section, decent toiletries, unsweetened and sustainably sourced versions of all my staples, and pretty good sales. And the house brands are nice - Open Nature, Signature Select and so on. I've never had a quality issue. I don't have another easy option, and I just moved from downtown Chicago so I'm not properly price-sensitive. I also think the layout of the store is a bit backward. But for what it's worth, I shop here without pain or regret, like every 3 days! read more

Today I witness the store manager, Brian M., acting in the most unprofessional manner. It disgusted me, especially due to the fact that I work in the mental health profession. A young man came into the store with his service animal and Brian forced him to leave. He would not even let him simply purchase what was already in his hand. I admit the young man reacted in an disruptive manner, but I could only imagine how I would feel to be kicked out for refusing to part ways with a resource that assists my own personal health. Brian went on to worsen my perspective of him and the store when he mocked the idea of service animals to Hilda. Hilda did not really say much, but today I witness an Albertson representative basically slap the idea of mental health in the face. Sensitivity training is obviously needed ! read more

If you can find another grocery store, then this isn't the place for you. I've been here every week last year as a college student and ever since the new Smart and Finals opened across Hollister, I won't ever come back here. As a regular college student, I think the only positives that I can get out of this store is the location being close to IV and the meat section is fairly reasonable. Even then, that's pushing it. Note that they get restock goods Wednesday, so if you're buying stuff on Monday or Tuesday you're going to get OLD stuff, often times the meat isn't very good. There isn't much organics that are reasonable, there's mostly farmed fish for those on paleo, and produce selection is rather limited. There's also a CoinStar and a BOA kiosk on the left side of the store entrance near the produce section (Not that I used it though). Bike parking can be found on the left behind the shopping carts. Every time I'm there, the cashiers look like they're miserable with frowns or indifference, which isn't really cool considering the fact that they usually don't have enough cashiers to relieve duties in the first place. Lines are quite long too, so be prepared to wait for a good amount of people before your turn. They just seem understaffed. It's been so long, but I'm afraid I have to give this 1 star for all of the above. In addition, if you want a biking distance place to grocery shop, go across Hollister for the Smart and Finals Extra for better customer service and better organics. read more

The employee at the self checkout micromanaged my entire transaction, though I never asked for help. I was buying one onion with a credit card and did not need help. He walked over to me after I told him I was fine, and he continued to tell me what to do, which is not appreciated in the slightest and made me uncomfortable. I go to the self checkout because I don't want to interact with an employee. I love this location, the selections, and the produce. However, the service I received today specifically at checkout was terrible and probably the worst check out experience I've ever had. I had a cashier named Jamie and he was extremely rude, and practically threw my food while giving my items to the bagger. He also missed items that I clearly had put on the belt and followed up with being even ruder to me but it was clearly his mistake. I have been to a lot of grocery stores in town and can honestly say I have never received such terrible customer service upon check out.
