I love the newly remodeled market. It's very clean and they're clearly prepping to put the deli back in! The selection is great. Love that they have fresh produce and they're starting to bring in fresh sandwiched and salads. They also offer deviled eggs, fresh cut fruit, hard boiled eggs, fresh baked goods and a fresh selection of flowers! There's a pretty decent wine selection too. I've heard from some of my friends who work there that they do not treat their employees as well as they should either. Scheduling them when they specifically said they cannot work, not being accommodating of their personal schedules, and not giving enough shifts to their workers who desperately need it to pay their rents. Great selection of food and alcohol. Talked to one of the managers; they have so many exciting things on the horizon: prepared foods like burritos and sushi and healthy options which, let's be real, everyone wants right now. No more amazing customer service as there are no more students working, it's way overpriced compared to other stores, and the lack of fresh meat and produce leaves no reason to go to the market anymore. I live close to them, and honestly for my purposes they are pretty convenient. They came in handy especially when I was short on time. For that, I give them 4 stars. With that said, Cons - Their produce is not fresh. - They are on the expensive side, but I do not agree with other people saying "way too overpriced" (maybe if you're looking for produce... but please at least go to co-op or Albertsons for produce.) - Customer service is sometimes good, but usually the employees are just doing their basic tasks. - Open hours could be better. - Interior design could be better. - They should clean more frequently! Pros - Satisfactory range of products. They have produce, meat, dairy, already-made food, frozen food, alcohol, and pretty much everything that would be in 7-11. - Location of the store. - Again, sometimes they are nice! This place is great if you're into paying $7 for a box of Cheese-Its all while waiting to be checked out by a cashier who is far too busy finishing up her text to bother to help you Seriously. This place is terrible. It's got to be shitty when the worst thing about an expensive place isn't the fact that it's expensive. It's the attitudes of the cashiers who look like you're inconveniencing them soooo much by making them do their job. Also, what's up with the racist and sexist and appearancist hiring practices? I liked shopping here. Typical market, mostly run by students. They have a nice selection but some stuff is a bit expensive in my opinion. They have fresh food but it looks just ok. The most convenient spot to shop in Isla Vista. Can easily walk here from the dorms. read more

This is another place that continues to exist in IV only because it is convenient. The produce is so lifeless looking it's scary. Things are ridiculously overpriced, but what's one to do when the fridge is empty and doesn't own a car either? Trek over to IV Mart and rip yourselves off! It's got everything you'll ever need for a decent meal, but expect to pay a finger for it. The mini fruits section is pretty decent and it's got all the junk you can dream of. Do stay away from the boxed salads in the fridge section unless you want to eat wilted nasty lettuce. I gave it more than its share of opportunities and regretted it each time. If the purchase isn't over $10, expect to pay extra 50 cents for swiping your card. read more

I try to be nice and say "Hello, how is it going?" She ignores my greeting and only says, "ID" very sternly because I'm buying wine bottles. The product is overpriced and often damaged. (I once sifted through about a dozen containers of Parmesan cheese in search of one that wasn't cracked open. There was grated cheese all over the inside of the cooler. It was ridiculous.) The cashiers are all scowling, elitist girls who are too busy texting each other about upcoming sorority parties to bother ringing up your groceries. The last time I bought something from IV market, I used my card and was charged three times the price of my groceries. I guess it's my fault for forgetting to ask for a receipt. My list of things to hate about this place goes on, but the bottom line is that it sucks. I really don't like writing bad reviews, but I've had a god-awful experience every time I've been in there. I feel like they're trying to piss me off, and I'll do all my shopping at Albertson's from now on. Horrible customer service. The cashier girl with short black hair who sometimes wears a blue sweater is the WORST. Every time I check out, she is talking to friends or flirting with a guy or eating hot cheetos. She is barely an employee. No "hello", no "thank you", nothing. She didn't even acknowledge that I am a person besides telling me the price. I hope her manager sees this and teaches her how to work at a store, because it seems like she hasn't been trained at all. Pros: Conveniently located (and one of the very few grocery stores in IV). Cons: Overpriced and restricted selection. The employees don't pay much attention when they scan your items, so you need to watch out. Check your receipt and your bag every time before you leave the store. I can't tell you how many times I've had an item scanned "extra" times. Just recently, I left the store without checking (stupid me) and realized only after I got home that they bagged everything but the $10 chicken breast I bought (but they certainly charged me for it!). read more

Literally, the most raggedy looking, pretentious, low class employees imaginable work here. The prices are terrible, no surprises there. I used EBT and a debit card to buy a few things. (I work at a food bank. We promote these programs because college is expensive and students are hungry, hello.) The girls couldn't figure out how to work the card and tried to blame/guilt/shame me for using EBT when they were the ones that couldn't use their own cash registers from 1985. Worst customer service ever. They have zero standards for their employees that come to their shifts looking like they're baked and just rolled out of bed after their one night stands before coming to work.
