I love coming here, as this place feels like a hideaway away for Asheville Uber healthy crowd. The kitchari is soothing, warm and nourishing. It has the consistency of a porridge and is delicious! I also like their choice of beverages, as they have a wide range of caffeine free options, like their turmeric chai, golden milk and hot chocolate with mushrooms. In the past, I had always gone for acupuncture sessions for localized pain, but on the recommendation of a friend, I went I passed by Alchemy to unblock my Qi after a 15 hour road trip. From the restorative bone broth (with marled tea egg!!) and the bowl of kitchiri, to the cupping/acupuncture session, you can tell that everything was done with a pragmatic purpose and a love for the tradition. What a sweet little spot Alchemy is! I've had two really wonderful acupuncture appointments with Lex who is extremely approachable and kind. She's well versed in her practice and both appointments left me feeling rejuvenated and balanced. The after effects in the following days where equally as nice! I could spend my entire day here... and sometimes I do! I first fell in love with the cafe space before I started getting treatments here as well. Cafe - Beautiful, calm, and quiet space to enjoy sipping on any of their medicinal broths (I loved their Bone Broths before I stopped eating meat and switched to their equally delicious Mushroom Broth). I typically order a half and half with their amazing kitchari. Their mix of split mung beans, millet, and amaranth produces the creamiest, most nourishing kitchari I've ever had. They also top the combo with local Goddess Ghee (in my opinion the best tasting ghee I've ever had). I love bring my book or my laptop to work here :) Treatment space - It's an old converted house that feels really homey. Passed the cafe and down the hallway are small rooms where I've gotten acupuncture and cupping done by some really talented practitioners. I have osteoarthritis at the ripe age of 34 and had an intense and painful flare up this week. Bracing myself against a counter to brush my teeth, holding a wall to help me bend down to tie my shoes, shooting pain down my legs...sucks. I was having moderate and at times severe joint pain the past two days. I hobbled into Alchemy and had acupuncture for the first time ever. I had the pleasure of working through it with Lex. She was warm, friendly, and walked me through the entire process. It took about an hour and I walked out feeling 60% better. It has been 6 hours and I feel 75% better. Lex informed me that I would see the most benefits at 24 hrs. I feel like I'm on track toward that and will be back to see her the next time I'm in town. read more

VEGANS BEWARE! Today, after a good workout nearby, I decided to grab a vegan sesame soy milk milkshake which I've had many times. I was greeted by a young woman who said "I don't think we have the stuff to make that", then she stares at me for an awkward few seconds until I said I don't understand. I had gotten this milkshake often over the years. She then asked if I'd like her to check and see if they had the stuff to make it. Incredulously I just said yes, please. She stepped back into their food preparation area and came back to explain they don't serve them during the Winter and hadn't ordered the stuff yet to make them this year. Ok I said, got it now. I looked at the menu and chose to get a small kitchari bowl, with coconut oil, no ghee. The woman enthusiastically said, "Absolutely!" On the way back to my car I opened the lid to squeeze the lime on top and then licked my thumb off from squeezing the lime BUT I SMELLED GHEE. I went back to alert them to their mistake and was going to take the correct one, with coconut oil and not ghee. I was irritated that butter had now been ingested by me, for the first time in decades. The more I stood waiting for replacement order the more irritated I became. I said across the counter, "hey you know what, I'd just like a refund please" Another young woman came out and said it was her fault, she was talking to the other woman who must have been distracted ...she wanted to take full responsibility. I said I really just wanted a refund ($6) and I was mad that I had eaten ghee so I didn't want anything else from them. Another bowl of kitchari was presented AND I was given a refund. I hadn't mentioned to either woman up to this point that I was vegan and hadn't eaten any animal for many years. When I turned to leave and didn't take the replacement order they asked why wouldn't I accept this new order. I said "because I can't trust it and that their error caused me anguish as I had not eaten butter/ghee in ages" The woman who greeted me initially and had that weird response about the milkshake and ultimately made the mistake putting the ghee on my order...ROLLED HER EYES. I immediately called her on it and she denied denied denied. I was there, you were frustrated due to your own mistake and then lost your composure when I didn't want the replacement order. I actually have to take partial responsibility here because I LEFT MY HOME. I should have asked her specifically, "this is with coconut oil, right???" Alchemy, please do a better job hiring and training your staff. read more
