I was walking around and yelped a jewelry place, this happened to be open and i called. Appointments required but the man that answered said I could come in, since it was in between appointments. Walked on over, took my ring and we took a look under the scope. i knew that my band needed a little fixing and was quoted about the same price he gave me. The difference was that I was actually able to see what needed to be fixed. $300 later my band is fixed and pretttty once again, They even cleaned my engagement ring when i came to pick it up. read more

Last year I broke a prong and lost a diamond on my wedding ring. I chose Alchemy because I thought they looked trustworthy and professional. I went in not knowing what to expect. My ring isn't the highest quality or most expensive which doesn't matter to me but it matters to some people. So, I was really anxious to bring it in. I was happily surprised because the gentleman that helped me was kind, professional and non-judgemental. They replaced the diamond and retipped the prongs for a reasonable price. The quality of work and service was great. I recently broke another prong and took it back to Alchemy thinking they would fix it as they had before. I received a phone call a few weeks later from Kellie explaining that I had cracked the diamond as well and that the amount of work needed to fix my ring wasn't something they would do for me. So, I went in to pick up my ring having a sneaking suspicion based off of other comments made that I wasn't getting the full truth. After further questioning as to why they couldn't fix it this time it became very apparent to me that it wasn't a matter of my ring being beyond repair but that they "couldn't" fix it because my ring and the diamonds didn't meet their standards. Instead of just replacing the diamond that was cracked and retipping the prongs, which is the service I asked for, they turned me away because they decided my ring needed a lot of unnecessary work to bring it up to the standards of their shop (even though they did not design the ring). As a designer myself, I don't understand this attitude but would have been far more understanding if they would have been honest and not twist and manipulate the situation to try to get me to buy something custom from them. I will never go back and I will never recommend them again. It was an extremely disappointing experience. read more

I recently went to Alchemy to get my engagement ring resized and I am more than happy with the service I received here. I told them that my fiancé had purchased the ring through an online retailer -- so instead of just taking my ring in right away, they told me that I should check to see if it would go against my warranty if they went and resized it for me. Of course, I took their advice and went home to do some research with my fiancé before going back to get anything done to it. After reading through everything, we found that it would in fact void our warranty, but we didn't care as we were very hesitant about shipping our ring back and forth to get it taken care of and wanted to support someone local and reliable! So I went back to Alchemy a couple days later and told them that I wanted them to resize my ring even though it would void my warranty. They took the time to size my finger and made sure I was comfortable with it. They had done an amazing job with it and somehow made my ring even shinier and sparklier than when I had dropped it off! David and Laura were also very informative about online retailers and I really appreciate the fact that they were honest with me about everything. The thing is.. they could have just took my ring, resized it, and I wouldn't have known that I voided my warranty. But they were honest about it and allowed me to make my own decisions. This is the kind of service that makes me want to come back for more! We will be coming back to support this gem of a store. Great customer service makes a huge difference and the staff (and beautiful jewelry collection) definitely makes it worthwhile. Also, lesson learned -- always support your local jeweler! read more

So I found this place by googling "jewelry alterations stainless steel". They were the first result. Went to their website to learn more. Set an in-person appointment to see them today. In the meantime, I sent them a text message specifying exactly what I wanted, and a bit later emailed them with even more thorough explanation, AND pictures of what I wanted. I got a text back and an email confirmation for my appointment. Great. Went to see them today. First, they open the door and explain it was supposed to be a phone consultation. Well, no, it wasnt... In fact I went back and checked the confirmation email. It very clearly says, in unmistakable bolds, beside the heading "WHERE", that the location will be at your store and provides the address. But never mind, that by itself can be overlooked. I had already put on my mask, which is an antibacterial / antiviral mask I special ordered online. They start insisting I put on one of their cheap 1 dollar blue disposable masks. I explain the thing Im wearing is far better. They continue insisting. Fine. Im not going to argue. Im already wearing a mask but you want me to wear *your* mask... Never mind. We can still overlook this. Next the consultation starts, and its clear they didnt actually read my text messages OR the email. They dont know what I want done, and only say "we cant work with stainless steel"... Well... You did come up on a google search specifically for that... And nothing on your website said steel was offlimits... AND I told you it was stainless steel in the email you didnt read... But you know what? This can still be overlooked! I explain what I said in my email - that I'd like the necklace remade with some changes, and it can be done using the cheapest materials, so long as the design stays the way I want. Im told they only use the most expensive materials. My necklace cost 29 dollars. Cost of getting it remade? 5,000 dollars. Yes, you read that right, FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS to remake a 29 dollar necklace. I told you EXACTLY what I wanted in email and text, along with pictures. If you had read the email, you could have replied back telling me you charge such an utterly ridiculous price for a necklace that cost 29 dollars. This was a total waste of time. read more

This place has some very unique one of a kind pieces. Each is a rare work of art. The store itself is amazing because there is a little nook where you can watch the artists work on Jewelry creations. They also always have fresh flower bouquets that smell and look amazing. They have flower photography that enhance the shopping experience. I have been here a couple times for first Thursday and they are always so gracious in showing me new pieces and giving me a glass of wine or some fresh fruit or cheese. Stumbled upon Alchemy while my now husband and I were looking for my engagement ring. I was very happy with the selection. Sander and the other people working were amazing to work with. So helpful, not pushy, gave me a wide variety of rings to try on since I didn't have an exact ring I was looking for. I found my ring that day and I absolutely love it. Even better was the main ring and one of the two bands were my size! I was able to take two of them home with me, and wait for the third to come which only took a week or two. My wife hadn't been wearing her engagement ring for more that 10 years. It was a ring from 1910, and had worn so thin and was too delicate and had broken in several places. I scheduled an appointment at Alchemy to talk about options, sending along a photo. When I arrived, Sander was absolutely amazing. He is so knowledgeable, and genuinely understood all the ring meant to us. He spent nearly an hour with me, going over every aspect of the diamonds, and the setting, and was actually as excited to show me the nuances of this antique piece as I was to see them. After the consultation, he put in lots of research and emailed me a few days later with a couple of options for restoration work they could do, at varying price points. In the end, I opted to have Alchemy completely reconstruct the ring, which they did to exacting detail and with incredible craftsmanship. In a world of "they don't make 'em like that anymore", Alchemy truly did. They remade our ring just like it was made when it was new. When I saw the result, I absolutely could not have been happier. They were able to get everything done in time for our anniversary, and I surprised my wife with the ring last night. She thinks it's gorgeous, and is absolutely thrilled that it's so close to the original. Not only does she not have to worry about it breaking, but she also has an heirloom piece that can now be passed on for generations. read more

I recently discovered Alchemy when I was trying to get my engagement ring sized. Due to the pave set diamonds on my band, most jewelers I went to did not want to touch it for fear of losening the diamonds. David was willing to size it as well as go in and add any additional metal to ensure that the diamonds were set tight and I would not have any problems with loosing them! Sander was wonderful to work with as well. I also had them appraise the ring, for insurance reasons, while it was there. They quoted me 10 days to have both services done and it was complete in 3! Alchemy is the only place in Portland where I know experts are handcrafting jewelry. You can actually see their workshop from the showroom. They are the real deal. So much of the jewelry at Alchemy is inspired by nature, which sets the perfect tone for the shop atmosphere and collection of jewelry as a whole. I'm giving the entire staff ten stars (**********, my version anyway)! My fiancé told me how helpful the staff was and how easy they made the the ring buying process for him so it didn't take much convincing when he suggested we go back to look at wedding bands. Well, we also had to get the ring sized down a bit and I can't imagine going anywhere else for our bands after my own experience with the staff. Not only did we get the ring sized correctly and extremely quickly, but the staff took the time to chat with us about our engagement story and help us try on wedding bands. I am very impressed with their customer service - top notch! I did not feel pushed AT ALL and felt my preferences for design and quality were carefully matched. I never leave bad reviews or reviews in general, but we were treated so unprofessionally that it seems necessary. Sander spoke to us like second rate citizens. He insulted my engagement ring in front of my fiance a few times while we were there for a resizing of my wedding band. It was completely unnecessary and his behavior was pretentious. We left and went straight to another well known jeweler in the area who treated us with respect, kindness and class. I am in search of a new wedding ring, to replace a 13-year, custom made, and beautiful ring that unfortunately, was damaged beyond repair. I stopped into Alchemy in search of a special and unique ring to replace my original. The service that we received at Alchemy Jeweler was so exceptional, I had to make a post (which is not something that I typically do). Although Alchemy Jeweler requests appointments be made in advance (as seems to be a common practice for most jewelers these days), they welcomed my husband and I in, even though we did know we needed an appointment. They made us feel welcomed even though they were helping other customers who did have appointments. They were not inconvenienced in any way, and provided personalized and detailed information with every unique and one-of-a-kind piece we examined. This location is a true, local gem. I never thought a place this nice and fancy would ever be so unpretentious. We came in to have our wedding rings made and they were so knowledgable and helpful. They worked well within our limited budget too which was another surprise. They completed our custom orders lightning quick and the service is top notch. I have my fathers wedding ring that I needed sized so I could wear it as my wedding ring. I had a bad experience at a different jewelry repair store and found Alchemy on yelp. David the jeweler was so nice and helpful. He explained clearly what the plan would be, I thought that the ring would need to be cut in order to be enlarged. He would try and stretch the ring but if that didn't work it would be no big deal just a little more expensive. I sat down for no more than 5 minutes and he had my ring sized and ready to go. Right before my wedding I loss a small diamond on my ring. My original jeweler is out of town and I had no time to go and have it fixed. I had my mother run to Alchemy with my ring. While she waited they replaced the missing diamond, cleaned my ring, check all my other diamond settings, cleaned my mother's ring and check her settings in minutes... And it was all complimentary! We had visited Alchemy a couple of times as we live in the neighborhood and when my fiancé proposed he suggested we have them make a custom ring as I had an idea (and some stones we wanted to use) of what I wanted. Sanders and the team there were very helpful and immediately set up some time with David, the owner, goldsmith, and metallurgist. Having seem some pictures of the sort of thing I liked he quickly sketched out what I wanted and then (amazingly quickly) did a CAD rendering on the computer so I could get a very realistic view of the design. He was very patient with us both and also saved the setting of one of the stones we used as it had great sentimental value. We got to try on a mold about halfway through the process and then picked up the finished design and it is gorgeous. He did the most extraordinary job and I am so impressed with the craftsmanship and quality of the ring. We found the whole experience was worth it to end up with something unique. I also love a lot of the other jewelry there - they have a range of really unique and unusual pieces from other great jewelers. I've worked with some amazing luxury jewelry brands in New York and Paris and Alchemy is world class! Discreet, understated, beautiful quality jewelry that feels really special. We just moved here and live 3 blocks away. We went to visit them for the first time yesterday. I first met Sander and later he introduced me to the owner David. I am a good judge of character, I deal with people a lot in professional environments. I felt really good about both of them! You could tell they had hood hearts! In the jewelry business trust is everything. I really was impressed the fact that David is also a 'Metallurgist' that is rare! Although yesterday I was not in the market to purchase jewelry but wanted to find someone to clean our wedding rings to get this done may not be such a big deal but I have a 'Perlee' wedding ring from Van Cleef and Arpel and my wife's ring.... Over the top amazing. Bottom line is we are SUPER selective of who we allow to touch our rings!! They did a great job and we have found our new jeweler! Yeah. We wish the best of success to Alchemy Jewelers. Oh, the first Thursday of every month they stay open late because they have a event, drinks, food, etc. Kind of a open house to welcome, and thank not just customers but potential customers and other business's in the area.
