Update: BE honored the return policy and allowed us to return the ring. The refund has hit our CC, so I am adjusting the review. As I said below, the experience purchasing was nice and the ring we kept is lovely. I'm only doing 4/5 because we tried all the "normal" pathways to resolve the issue, and I shouldn't have to resort to a review campaign to get good customer service for high-end jewelry. Buyer beware! We bought a wedding set at Brilliant Earth in September. In the course of purchasing it, I confirmed their return policy twice (once at the beginning and end of the purchase). The return policy was the ENTIRE reason I pulled the trigger and the purchase was made by the salesperson. This involved two "modifications" including a resize and a switch to 14K gold. AS IT TURNS OUT, this nullifies the return policy. Not only did the sales person NOT warn us of this, they didn't correct us at the end of the purchase when I confirmed the return policy, and the re-size was the salesperson's idea! As it turns out, I love the engagement ring, but I want to return the band and BE is giving us a total run-around. BE MORE TRANSPARENT. Their rings are lovely, the experience was nice in store, but their customer service is terrible. Made an appointment to check out a few engagement rings at Brilliant Earth. They were able to bring in several specific ring styles that I had asked for when I first scheduled the appointment. Nice touch offering water and chocolate when we first walked in. Our jewelry consultant, Eva, was friendly, helpful and put us at ease as we weren't pressured into buying anything during the consultation. The good: Drew was really nice and helpful. My husband bought me a gift for my birthday from Brilliant Earth's website. The item was significantly different than the picture. We made an appointment to return it. Drew was nice and processed the return. Still, we weren't able to look at other choices without a different appointment, even though we were clear about our intent to exchange. I am giving them 2 stars because their service was fine, and I don't hate my ring or the price. But that is all relative because for the price I don't think the price, selection or service were all that great. I made the mistake of only going to this place and one other. The other was a high end custom shop and in comparison Brilliant earths prices seemed so good. However, a few things tainted the process and I find myself looking at my ring 2 years later and wishing I had been pickier. After all it's on my finger every day. It didn't help there was no example of the design in my size to try on, which considering you only have like 5 designs to pick from is a little absurd. Almost positive that every positive review is for experiences where nothing went wrong. But just like people, the true mark of a quality vendor is how they behave when things go wrong. The sales people are great, but they eventually hand you off to an awful corporate system of indifference and inefficiency. They are not a small little boutique, they're closer to a large conglomerate that farms out their customer service to far away places filled with people that give less than a sh*t about you. They will do ANYTHING to deny even the simplest request and they're armed with enough red tape to keep those requests from being answered. If you go with them just know that you're rolling the dice. If everything looks great, fits, etc., you're probably fine. In any other scenario I guarantee you'll be disappointed. read more

How is this company run so poorly?? It's been a bad experience from day one. I needed to reschedule my first appointment so I called to see if they could fit me in for a showing later the same day. I was on hold for 45 minutes before I hung up. Since then, I've waited 3 months to see very specific stones, but they will not arrive to the portland location. The first time, they simply told me they didn't have my request on file, even though I had requested it before the first appointment, with the sales rep during the appointment, and even confirmed via email after with links to the stones. This month, they said the stones still haven't arrived. No apology, and no notification. I had to email 3 times to get a response the day of my follow up appointment. They said the diamonds hadn't made it in and maybe to reschedule. Again. Apparently these stones are coming from the east coast. I know it's the pandemic still, but I've had shipments come through from abroad within two weeks without issue. Oh and to top it all, they had written down both my ring size and my partner's ring size wrong. Like, way off. You can't mess around with people's engagement rings. This is a pretty special time for people. I love the mission of this company, but it's just not run well & makes ring shopping a depressing, tedious, hellish chore. read more

Purchased a ring from here in December of 2020. Ring was crafted poorly, diamonds kept falling out after only a couple months of careful wear around the house(starting early 2021). They had no problem blaming me and sending invoices to fix their mistakes(which they ended up doing for free, as they should). After escalating this to the umpteenth time to every local & regional manager I could possibly get ahold of, they still could not provide me any information on what was wrong with the ring, they had the attitude of "s*** happens, move on" Their call center is poorly trained, their craftsmen make sub-par rings, and their customer service reps rank just above that of a mildly-trained hamster. The only time they ever reached out to me with any sense of urgency was when I left them a review on here on yelp. Within literally minutes they were on the line begging me to change the review to something more positive. Brilliant earth cares about their image, not the customer. I went to Brilliant Earth's Portland Oregon showroom. Looked at some beautiful lab created diamonds and settings, ordered one, and paid for 1/2 and from there it was all downhill. I could not get documentation for the ring that I bought - I did not get an order confirmation or receipt for the payment -nothing to indicate what I had purchased, when it was coming or how much was due. I found out a week later, the diamond I bought had already been sold, I owed more because of the ring size, and the order hadn't been placed - and still no receipt/documentation. After endless emails, phone calls, (not to the Portland Showroom-it's phone number was disconnected) I finally got a manually created receipt, and my ring is delayed 8 days and won't arrive on my anniversary as planned. This business has questionable business practices and poor customer service. I would not recommend. read more

The appointment is 100% focused on you, it was nice to not have distractions around you. Eric was very patient as I debated over diamonds. Stay away! Deceiving practices. I ordered a wedding band and had it shipped to the showroom. When I went to pick up the ring, it didn't match my engagement ring as well as I thought it would. I returned it without ever bringing it home (no problem, it happens). I was still in the market for a band so I scheduled a visit to see a second band in-person to avoid any additional delays or disappointments. They emailed me that the ring I wanted was not available for viewing. I decided to purchase the ring anyway and was sent an email that they needed written consent that the ring would not be returnable before they would start the order. This is a brand new order, what happened to the 30 day return policy? I must not have read the small print (wherever that was hiding). If you are not going to provide an opportunity to see/try a specific ring in-person, the policy should be adjusted. I understand the goal of sustainability (but really they just don't want to cough back up your money should it not work out). Regardless, it shouldn't be at the expense of good customer service (and it also feels very deceiving). BE claims they want you to be happy with your purchase but their policies do not support this. I emailed them back to say NOPE and hope there won't be any additional crap thrown my way. I had studs and a necklace on my wishlist too, and truthfully loved that band, but I'll be finding another jeweler. Bye, BE! read more
