After Google and Yelp experiences, we landed on Alchemy and were able to get same time slots for us both at the salon (good software that makes for a smooth and comfortable scheduling, reminder, documenting experience). GREAT visit experience from the front door (reception area and greeter was tops) to the salon business area, Brittany was my cutter and did a 10 job. Here attention to detail, asking great styling questions, great conversation and exercising her craft giftedness - found the spot ! I just got home from my first hair appointment here. The entire process was amazing! The environment is beautiful and so different from any salon I've been to. It feels like a nature-y spa-ish woodsy place. Very very nice and welcoming. The front desk staff was really kind and welcoming immediately. The formulas that are customized to each client are kept in the computer so anyone can mix the same formula for you! It's great. Spray tan review: I paid $50 plus tip for a spray tan that ended up being blotchy with stripes down my legs. I did everything any tanning place would suggest, including not showering for 12-24 hours. Usually the tan evens out once you shower, but mine got so much worse. I have been getting spray tans for 7+ years and have never had one this awful. Not to mention they charged me a 50% service fee when I couldn't make my first appointment. While I understand why, that should be clearly stated on their website, which it isn't. Things happen, and you can't always make it to an apt, but it should be clear that you will be fined and not told to you afterwards. Being new to Knoxville, I had to work up my nerve to find a new hair salon. I have lived in all corners of the country and with every move I face the same problem. There have been some unpleasant experiences as well as a few great discoveries. And then...I had to move far away and start all over again. Alchemy Salon is a great discovery, without question. I kinda tossed a coin to decide where to go for my first Knoxville salon experience and it seems Lady Luck was with me on the coin toss. The salon is very welcoming and friendly, situated in a building that was once a dwellling (I believe), then used for Boy Scouts and then by attorneys. It looks like none of those previouse uses though. Beginning with the walkway to the entrance you see nice decorative touches that continue inside. I mention that because the resultant feeling is that the owners care about setting a comfortable mood. Scented candles are scattered about, mixed in with plants and tasteful decor objects. The interior feels like a mix of modern and traditional Italian. The ambience is subtle and low key - not high noise nor high pressure. Envision a high-end feel that is not at all snooty. There are multiple services offered besides those for hair. I noted a separate section for massages, for a barber, nail care and waxing. There may actually be even more offerings - I was not focused on anything other than hair. Teresa colored and cut my hair in a way that I have not encountered since living in San Francisco. She knows what she is doing. My hair is on the thick side with a mind of its own. I try to control things by maintaining a modified, shoulder length shag. Cutting and styling it satisfactorily take a degree of skill that many hairdressers simply do not have. They compensate by over using thinning scissors and styling product. Not the case at Alchemy. Teresa cut my hair in a way that works WITH it and allows me to be carefree about how it looks from day to day. Alchemy Salon uses wonderful hair products from Italy, although the price for services does not seem to reflect the extra special treatments. My hair realized the difference right away however. It is on the way to becoming more healthy and shiny than ever. Really, anyone who can cut my hair in a way that I don't have complaints about is a cut above the rest. The fees are reasonable, although I believe they could easily be higher and still be worth paying. I am now retired, with no plan to move away from this area. Happily I can remain a devoted and satisfied client of Alchemy Salon for life! read more

Had my haircut with Hailey. She did a wonderful job, taking the time to get the length and layers the way I wanted and educating me on how to best care for my hair. My boyfriend also had his hair cut, and it's his best haircut since moving to Knoxville years ago. The prices are more than fair and the staff is all very friendly. Way too dark & warm (opposite of what I communicated I wanted). Called back & ask if I could either book an appointment to remedy the color or get a refund on the color portion. Sometimes when you go to a fancy salon the people there are not very nice and kind of give off that vibe that they think they are better than you and this is definitely not that kind of place. The staff is very friendly and you can tell that they genuinely care about what they do. They are big into learning and know the latest techniques in coloring. Emily turned my died black (for 8 years) hair to blonde in 2 sessions with minimal damage. I love my hair and I have gotten so many compliments! They spend extra time making sure did they take care of the customer. They make a custom blend of the shampoo and conditioner mixture on your hair and I think she even put a color sealer on my hair. They also give you a head massage for a few minutes and take the time to style your hair, they are not trying to rush you out. If a stylist does something that is not satisfactory with the patron, don't expect an apology or an offer to remedy the problem because you will not get it. My cuts and color at Alchemy have been hit or miss. I have had some great visits, and some not so great visits. I like the actual salon, and I think the inside is very pretty. Overall, I feel welcomed and everyone is friendly. My main complaint with this salon is trying to schedule an appointment by leaving a voicemail. I would recommend to anyone trying to book an appointment, do NOT leave a message. I have tried multiple times leaving messages stating what I want done with specific times and days I can have the appointment scheduled for, only to get a call back with a voicemail stating they have an opening on another date and time that I cannot make. I feel like they don't even pay attention to the date/time you're giving them, they just call back with the soonest time available and that is it. I've also left messages that have never gotten a call back. So in that instance, I think the customer service is very poor. If you want to have dedicated customers, make them feel like they're important and like you're actually trying to work with them to get an appointment scheduled. read more
