What a terrific experience I had at Lox Salon. I am new to the Knoxville area. My husband saw other positive Lox reviews and while it was along way to drive from Loudon, TN. I never know what to tell a stylist I want. Brynn was so patient and kind as well as knowledgeable about what she believed could be done with my hair. This was my first time in the salon. I called 2 weeks ahead and scheduled highlights and a cut. I requested a specific hair stylist who was only doing short haircuts, unfortunately she did not do highlights, so I had to book with another stylist. I was told that highlights for short hair would take an hour and a half, which was longer than usual for my length, especially partial highlights. I was quoted $120 for both highlights and the cut. I paid 50% deposit to schedule an appointment. I came to the salon on time and was first seen by Kari Rose. I explained to her that I wanted thin highlights that would not be patchy. She seemed to have understood what I wanted. She was very nice and gentle. She was quite slow as well, but I figured she was just being thorough. I was a bit alerted when she didn't hold the toner for too long when she washed my hair. She handed me off to the stylist who was going to do my haircut, Carrie Hasey. Carrie seemed to know what she was doing, but regardless I showed her the picture of my previous haircut. I explained to her that I wanted Platinum highlights with a shorter cut. She said that my highlights were "warmer in tone" and asked if that's what I wanted. I said that I did not want warmer tones, so she immediately went back to the previous hairstylist. The previous hairstylist came back and said that she would apply toner after the haircut is done. Carrie proceeded with the haircut, but did not end up drying it, so I never saw the final product. I went back to get the toner treatment and after 10 minutes I had another hair wash. When my hair was dried by Kari, I couldn't really see any highlights. She seemed to have had the same impression because she mentioned that I could always come back to her if I didn't like the results. I figured the lighting was not good, so I wanted to see if I liked it when I left. I knew that I could barely see any highlights, but wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. And somehow I didn't realize until I left that it was more than the second 50% that I was quoted. I immediately called the salon and explained that I thought I was overcharged. I was put on the phone with the manager who explained to me that there was an add-on for $30, but I told her that it was not my fault that the highlights were not visible and that toner had to be applied once again. I also explained to her that my experience, including the financial part, was not good. She offered a refund of $30 after 5 minutes going back and forth arguing, and she said that I could come back to get highlights done again. I told her that I already spent two hours in the salon and can't imagine doing this all over again. Overall, really disappointed with the results. My haircut was okay, but I paid for highlights that I believe were not what I requested. You can take a look at the pictures and see for yourself. The one in the pink jacket is what I wanted. Well, I had really high hopes to get my hair finally nicely done. However after spending in the salon hour for keratin treatment and color here I am - patchy and dull. I was suppose to be grey with light grey higth lights but ended up with unknown color and flushing grey growing line. After I complained, they said that everything was done rigth and for additional fee they could straighten out my hair. Will not step at this place anymore. First of all... I appreciated the accommodation they provided. I was running late because I took the wrong exit.... They told me not to worry and come in there's a grace period of 15mins. Which was more than enough time for me to reroute. Kari was my hairstylist and I have to say she is the sweetest! Showed her the hair style I wanted and she did it!! Cute boho vibes salon downtown. Street parking, beware! I went in for lash extensions. I have gotten them done for almost a year at another salon which is too booked for me to even get in anymore. So I decided to try somewhere new and closer to home. The owner did my lashes, first impressions when I walked in to the area where she was going to have me lay down was, "no bed?" Haha panic mode kicked in.... they have a hair salon chair leaned all the way back with a pillow for comfort for you to sit and lay back on. That was not the most comfortable after being there for almost two hours for a full set. (Owner did mention she is remodeling the bottom part of salon to be just for lashes with beds and even a bar area which sounds fun!)She did long and whispy like I asked, the only concern is that they don't look full dramatic looking they're more on the natural whispy look. read more

Fave haircut ever!!! I have insomnia and when I was on one of my "unknown destination walks" I found myself desiring a haircut. So I called up the place and asked them when's the earliest they can take me, they said they could get me around opening time so I walked right over. The decorations off the place was great, I felt so cool just being in there. And the minute I got in they asked me if I wanted some coffee or any other beverage, I took a coffee and proceeded to sit on the coach. The hairstylist was amazing. She took before and after pictures which made me feel special, but also made me feel like she really cared about what she was doing. I told her she could do whatever with my hair. I do this anytime I get a hair cut cause I'm always curious to see what people do. However, every time I ask this hairstylist usually just give me the same basic cut. But this time this time it was different. She cut my hair in to a mob and texturized it so much! It was cute it was edgy and by far my most favorite haircut. I usually don't go to the same hairstylist cause I never actually cared for any of mine, but this might be the first time I go back to the same one I had. read more

I just moved from NYC and was looking for a nice hair salon and looking at the stars on google I decided to try it. I had asked for their highest level of service in the grades of hair dressers, which was their most expensive option, hoping that it would mean that I get a good cut! I was early and because the hair dresser that I was scheduled with was not ready yet, I was greeted by someone else who was ready. I explained to her exactly what I wanted. Based on our conversation, it seemed that she understood my idea of what I wanted, really well. I even showed her a picture. One hour into the haircut, after the hair wash and most of the hair cut was done, I realized I did not like it as much. It seemed very different from what I asked for. She kept "trying to blend" the layers, in an effort to make it look better. At a point, I thought tgat maybe if I just give it time, it will look better. I didn't want her to keep thinning out my hair. So At that point I paid and left. After a head bath that evening, I now look like a rock star from 1990s with the top with a super thick crown and super thinned out hair at the shoulder. It is everything I had told her Not to do. It looks horrible! I called them the very next morning, explaining what happened, asking to speak with a manager/ or the owner or a person in charge. It is a Saturday. I was told that "no one is available to help/ talk to me until Tuesday" . No apologies, no courtesy shown at all, I was not even offered to come back for a correction with someone else! Goes without saying, I will not be going back! I am now looking for a different salon to help me correct the damage that was done to my already short hair by a hair dresser who seemed extremely confident in her ability to cut hair but the her execution of the art was poor and tasteless! Especially, since they charged me the highest fee reserved for their "most experienced " hair dressers! I expected more! read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE!!!!!! I went in asking for some of my natural brown and additional highlights since mine had grown out. I will never ever come back to Lox salon and I highly suggest that no one ever does. They colored my hair pretty much black, when i asked for my milky chocolate brown. They did a huge blonde white band as money pieces. I looked like a skunk. The owner "tried" to fix it and i left the salon with orange hair and a few highlights in the front. I will include pictures of my hair before, after i got it done the first time and after they tried to fix it. It was over $200 and REFUSED TO REFUND ME!!!!!! This is a fantastic Salon in the Old City. I always feel instantly relaxed when I walk inside. The lounge you'll be waiting in is furnished with antiques and decorated beautifully. All of the salon chair stations are kept very clean and I always feel comfortable in the chairs. I especially love how LOX clearly appreciates their patrons. The receptionists are always very friendly and offer refreshments (tea, water, etc). They have an online system for booking appointments and reaping rewards points for free haircuts. On top of all that, they even offer a student discount and gender neutral pricing! My personal favorite Stylist is Amanda. She's been cutting my hair for over a year now. I get a short hair haircut (men's) and she always does a stellar job. She's very friendly, doesn't seem to mind that I'm not a big talker, makes great suggestions, and just rocks in general. read more

I tried with this place, I really did. The first stylist I worked with for about a year did a great cut but she wasn't great with details and there was one color experience that did not go well because she used a much redder, brassier shade than we'd used in the past. (I'm boring, I always do the same thing, she just didn't pay attention to the notes in my file and then blamed the color.) She's gone now. Then I tried again with a second stylist who did a pretty good cut but at least four times in 7 months she canceled my session the day of, just a few hours before. I work during the day, have limited evening availability, and was inconvenienced by this. More than that it's just frustrating to constantly have to reschedule. If she did it to me four times, I'm sure she did it to others as well. The worst was the time I drove all the way down there to find out she was in another state. The staff claimed to have called me multiple times and left messages but cell phone call histories kind of tell the truth, you know? They never called me. I've moved on to another salon that respects my time. read more

I have never been so happy with a stylist! Melanie is awesome and took such great care of me. She truly listens to what you want, makes insightful and respectful suggestions and gives you a rocking hair style! The best part is she gave me a cut that is growing out beautifully. I mean, I've never had a cut that was easy to style, looks great and gets sooo many compliments weeks later!!! I loved working with her so much I have had her do my Mom and both of my sister's hair. Not unusual you say? None of my family lives in TN.... they have each flown in and made Melanie a MUST STOP on their visit and my mom is coming from as far as Hawaii!!!! Have you ever made it a point to get a cut/color etc. on your vacation to visit family? We each have such different hair types and each of us has walked away super happy. The salon itself is also awesome. It is always clean with smiling team members, nice music, an overall comfortable atmosphere and the service is great. I am always offered a drink upon checking in and again by Melanie (cause she's awesome). I also adore their commitment to sustainable and eco friendly products. Normally, I avoid getting my hair cut due to past less than great experiences with getting my hair cut or having my hair styled by people who aren't very professional or understanding of how to manage curly hair. However, after today I'm sold. Dan did such a great job with styling/cutting my hair in a way that works best for my naturally curly hair and explaining how to take care of it. Getting your haircut in a strange city by a stranger is scary!! Chelsea at LOX was so awesome and immediately made me feel like I had nothing to worry about. She listened to what I wanted my hair to end up like, looked at some pics I showed her as examples and without hesitation took the shears to my hair! The result is amazing, I love my new shorter bob and as a bonus I had a great time chatting with her. If I lived here in Knoxville LOX (and Chelsea) would be my go to hair place. I was invited to this salon via a Yelp event, and it was actually the first time I'd ever been here despite living one block away. The space was great and everyone I met was so damn nice! Full disclosure: my heart belongs to another salon. I have been loyal to my current stylist for roughly a decade; however, I've received word that he will be moving in about a year, so I'm already starting the search. I really like this place. I have no idea how I'll decide which stylist I'll go to, but I love the place. The space is awesome and everything is so inviting. I'm looking forward to giving the stylists a try. One thing that there will be no delay on though: Mandi the masseuse. This was the highlight of my visit! The massage was incredibly awesome. It had admittedly been a while since I've had a massage, but man, did it hit the spot. I can't wait to make an appointment and go back. She was both fantastic and firm, which is necessary. After avoiding a proper haircut like a root canal for nearly 3 years, I finally committed myself on somewhat of a whim to book an appointment at Lox. Brynn happened to have a slot open within the hour and off I was. I can count the number of haircuts I've had as an adult on one hand (I'm 31, folks) for various reasons but mainly due to the fact that I have very thick and wiley hair and previous experiences with salons had left me skeptical at best. Alas, it was time to get over that skepticism and, boy howdy, am I glad I did. I had virtually zero idea of what I wanted and gave Brynn free run with her imagination and little more than a picture of somewhat medium length hair. What I got out of it was, hands down, my favorite haircut I've ever had. I had a dinner to catch with friends not too long after my appointment at its convenient location, and I received compliments from complete strangers on my short walk to Gay Street. This paled in comparison to the disbelief from my friends that I had not only lost about a foot of hair, but at how much more distinguished I looked. The state of the world right now along with a few personal matters lately had left me pretty deflated and this cut has provided the perfect confidence boost that I needed. Booked an appointment a few days in advance for a mani-pedi with Porsche. The booking process online was easy. I called ahead to inquire about parking. The lot next to their building charged $2 first hour then jumps to $10 for the daily rate. They gave me instructions on where to park for free with a very short 5-minute walk. Porsche greeted me upon my arrival at the lounge and explained there was a small 10-minute wait. No problem. She finished with her other client and then proceeded to give me the best pedicure I have ever received, Great foot massage, my feet never felt better. The manicure was equal in quality. Porsche has a great personality and experience in her craft. I will be seeing her on a monthly basis and am glad I made the trip to this little oasis in Old City Knoxville. read more

I moved to Knoxville over a year ago, and have been skittish about finding a salon because I was terrified that someone would make my difficult, curly hair look awful. Came into the salon with my boyfriend while he was getting his hair cut, and really liked the feel of the place, the work I'd seen, and the general attitude of the stylists. Cool vibe, no snobbery. I finally worked up the nerve to go in to for a consultation, and made an appointment with Amanda. She did exactly what I asked, and didn't get mad when I asked her to take more length off after she finished cutting it. My hair turned out perfect!
