I found Christa Wagner on Instagram and made a tattoo appointment. I love her fine line work and really vibed with her personality-wise. I can't wait to get another tattoo done by her!

Updated-- emily is the sweetest person, i've gone to her for 2 tattoos over 3 sessions, and gotten two piercings from her. She is so genuine and kind, and I you can tell she really loves her job. The people who work in the front of the shop are lovely as well! I always buy a few pins after my appointments!

Worked with Cody to design a *gorgeous* tattoo! I had a consult at the beginning of the month and was able to get an appointment only a few weeks out, which was super lucky. He was super easy to work with, really open to my input & changes, and printed several sizes of the stencil for me to choose between. He made me feel really comfortable and we talked for the entire hour of my tattoo which made it fly by. I can't wait to go back for another! They also offer free parking in the back -- signs say "authorized parking only" but that tattoo shop customers are included in that, so don't send money via PayPal like some signs say!

I can't speak highly enough of Alchemy. Lew was very patient and encouraging as I planned and prepped for my first tattoo. He took the photos I shared with him and created a stunning floral piece. I am still in awe of the colors and design! I was able to pop in a few months after my first appointment for a touch up. Can't wait to go back for my next! The shop is clean and organized, and all of the artists were welcoming. They also offer free parking in the back! If you're looking for a tattoo shop in STL, Alchemy is the place!

He gave me exactly what I wanted. The accuracy and line work is amazing and he took his time to draw it out and to make sure it was what I was looking for

This was my first ever tattoo experience. Parking is a little tight at Alchemy, so you may have to park a street over to avoid pay-to-park in from of the store. The interior is well-lit, very clean and the staff were very friendly. My experience with my artist G was great. G Jones was very open and communicative with walking me through all of the pre and post tattoo care. On inking day, she was very professional. She worked with me on placement and was very confident in her skills. I would absolutely recommend G and Alchemy. Already thinking about my next piece!

Say it with me. Alchemy. It's fun to say...Crisp, clean, refined, and this extends to Alchemy Tattoo Collective. I did my research, read the reviews, and went with this studio for my first tattoo experience. Someone cares and it shows. These folks are kind. It's an inclusive, welcoming, spa-like atmosphere, and I'm overall very pleased with my decision...After viewing the various portfolios, I chose Christa as my artist, and she's just lovely to work with. From consult and concept, throughout the process, she put me completely at ease, My particular tattoo (Sacred Heart) is ripe with symbolism, and I was very specific about what elements I wanted to include. She nailed it. It's gorgeous. The ideas for Tattoo #2 are already blooming, and I'll gladly return to Alchemy. Oh, and they expanded. CWE & Cherokee now! Highly recommended.

Great shop. I love my tattoo. Thanks JW, you customized exactly what I was looking for!

After first session, 2.5 hours. Might add another hour. By Chelsea

If you want to walk in and get a tattoo 10 minutes after you decide to get a tattoo, this might not be the place for you. For some quality, well planned work, bookmark Alchemy. Chelsea is difficult to get an appointment with, in a good way. She's picky about what she spends her time on and has a long wait time. Get one the website and add yourself to her wait list to be notified when she's booking, then you'll get a chance to book if she accepts your idea. She's an excellent artist and keeps you company while working. I personally think she works pretty fast and her rate was super reasonable. The design I gave her had tons of line work (see photo) and she nailed it. Once she noticed I was getting quite uncomfortable (after ~2.5-3 hours), she got it to a stopping place that I could live with, even if I didn't make it back. I will go back for another hour or so, but it looks awesome. I've heard great things about the other artists, although I do not have experience with any of them. The shop is cute and sunny, and located right on Cherokee to get your churros before or after.

Super clean, friendly, and reasonable. I came in on Friday the 13th for a new piercing and I'm happy with how it came out. Allen did a fantastic job of prepping me for my piercing, both in cleanliness and in placing the stud. I hadn't the slightest idea where on my nostril I wanted pierced, but he decided well and I feel like it complements my features. I also love that he guarantees his work! He was super professional and quick with the painful parts. I'll be back in soon for a tattoo-- this shop operates smoothly and has incredibly talented artists.

Getting a tattoo is an intensely personal experience, especially for perfectionistic Type-A people…read more Before getting my first large-scale piece, I did A LOT of shopping around St. Louis. I did at least 5 consults at different local shops, and even branched out to the Chicago area, thinking it would be worth the drive to get the permanent work that I'd be happy looking at every day. The consults ranged from 'meh, I'd settle for this' to 'wow, they don't get my idea AT ALL' to downright freaking rude. Little did I know, *my* place was hiding in Benton Park. A coworker heard I was not having success finding an artist, and suggested I reach out to Lucky Cat, where he had had one of his tattoos done. I emailed Amelia, set up a consult, and sent her my artwork. Literally from the first 5 minutes we spoke, I knew she understood the vibe, thought it was a badass tattoo, and that we would get along like friends. When you're doing a big piece, you sit for hours and hours while this other human inflicts pain on your body. Also, did I mention tattoos are hella expensive? Well, all that is to say, it was worth every second and every cent. I trusted Lucky Cat (and Amelia) with my artwork and vision, and was NOT disappointed. Shit, did I get lucky. Since that first sleeve, I've been back several times, and covered both arms. I've also got 2 beautiful thigh pieces from another artist there, Aidan Monahan, and I'm in love with them. I'm a HUGE fan of Amanda's art, and hope to get a piece done by her someday too. As far as the space itself, it's super comfortable, super clean, and very easy to spend multiple hours in. They also have a really cool gallery space attached, and frequently hold popup events supporting other local artists. They're honestly a St. Louis gem, and we should feel incredibly happy they put roots down in this little space.

I saw Amelia here. She is friendly and helpful and will not make you feel pressured. The atmosphere…read moreof the shop is very welcoming and inviting. The tattoo area itself is an open space but they do have privacy curtains should you desire them. It's also probably one of he most well-lit tattoo parlors that I've been in. Be aware that wait times here can be long depending on which artist you wish to see, but in my opinion it's worth it. This is also one of the only majority-female tattoo parlors in the Saint Louis area.

Walked in on a Friday for my first tattoo (two modest Chinese characters on my chest) and a frenum…read more(male genital) piercing. A little over an hour later, walked out with two new body mods that I am extremely proud of for a price that was both affordable ($190 combined) and well worth the service I got. Tattoo artist Miss Morgan did a fantastic job with a first-time client. She worked quickly and put my mind at ease. Pain on a scale of 1 to 10 was about a 4, with a few twinges of 5 as she approached the bonier parts of my sternum, and many stretches where it was a 3 or even nonexistent. From start-to-finish, it took less than forty minutes, and possibly half that time. When she said "You're done." I was pleasantly surprised. Now I have two Chinese characters that are personally meaningful to me on my chest forever. Most important, I am certain I made the right decision. Based on the much more intricate designs on their walls and their heavily-inked clientele (which means a lot of repeat business), I don't think you can go wrong with any artist here, but if this is you first tattoo and you are nervous, consider asking for Miss Morgan by name. I could not be happier with her work, and she had a fantastic bedside manner. Piercing was done by Caleb, who does all of their piercings, I believe. I'm not shy about my body, but if you are and you want to get pierced in an area that isn't visible to the public, you should know that Caleb is courteous, professional, and very good at what he does. He helped me decide between a Prince Albert and a frenum based on what I was looking for and his expertise without steering me either way forcefully. I previously had a Prince Albert, but opted for the frenum this time, and I am extremely pleased with the result. It's still healing, and will be for some time, but the initial excitement and pride of getting this done still hasn't worn off. The pain was about a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10, but Caleb worked so quickly and efficiently that I barely noticed it after a very intense less than one second period. If you are male and reading this while thinking of getting a piercing down there, my advice is to do it (you can remove them and they will heal without much notice or any damage). Professional service matters, and Caleb provided it like it was second nature, probably because he's done this many many times before. Both appointments were walk-ins on a Friday afternoon. Note that there can be a bit of a wait, since I do not believe they take appointments on the weekend, but only for the tattoo. There was almost no wait for the piercing (just 20 minutes or so for them to prep the area after seeing another client). I had been thinking about getting both procedures done for a long time, and I'm extremely pleased that I did not have to wait an excessive amount of time to get them done. Overall, this is a very professional and affordable shop, and I would recommend it heavily to anyone thinking of getting a tattoo or piercing, especially if this is your first one. If I could give this place a sixth star, I would.

Awesome news! Enigma has a cosmetic tattoo artist now!!! Grace is super nice, super informative & (…read morebest of all in cosmetic tattoos) GENTLE! I got lip blushing done. When thinking of getting something like your lips/ eyes/ anything facial & usually sensitive done, don't think about your body tattoos & how that felt. Grace has & utilizes a numbing cream ( works VERY well). I literally fell asleep while procedure was being done. It's a 2 session job, but now, fully done & totally healed, I'm super very happy with it!! They don't line too much outside of the lips because that would probably look super unnatural, but right to the edge of my lip line has given my lips the little bit of boost in volume and the colors that I really like especially when wearing no makeup at all. You get an absolute chance with Grace to help design the color that she's going to be applying ( She recommended that I bring along my favorite lipstick). This is not nearly as "ouchy" or intense as you might imagine. As I previously mentioned, the numbing cream works super well! Just relax and it's done before you know it! The color seems very very bright at first, but it does mute out quite a bit as the healing process sets in. I, as a thin-lipped individual () not only enjoyed the color, but the subtle ( albeit temporary) volume boost it gives. I realize they were mainly swollen a bit from the "trauma" of the "blushing", but ( in my experience) with disappointingly short lived lip filler, this lasted almost as long & healed up quickly & easily. There will be a bit of chapping and peeling between your first and second appointment, but that's just the lips healing out. Just use some lip balm diligently day and night ( Grace will give you the "accessories") and you'll be ready to show it off in no time! I would recommend Grace to do ANY of the cosmetic tattooing she can do because I can see what a great & careful professional she is. Enigma 's a great spot for tattoos in general, now they've added the aesthetic angle the public has increasingly asked for. Thankfully they put on a trained & experienced aesthetics professional. Grace is amazing!
