The Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology, AACT, is an career technical education school within the Washoe County School District. It gives students an alternative opportunity to help them decide on various paths to secondary education. There are eight academies in the program- communications arts and media, culinary, teaching and training, engineering, fire science, high school of business, medical, and natural resources and animal sciences. In April, a team of sophomore culinary students won first place in the state competition in Las Vegas and presented a fund raiser to help get them to nationals. The winning team with the support of their fellow classmates and the hospitality class presented an incredible six course dinner in the cafe at the AACT campus. I have dined around the world at various levels of restaurant and street cuisine, these kids did a phenomenal job- in quality and execution of the plates, hospitality, and cooperation. What 10th grader have you met that knows how to prepare roasted figs, pomegranate molasses, and burrata mousse; beef tartare; French rack of lamb with couscous; branzino and bulgar; and blueberry limoncello tiramisu. Little lone know what they are ? I have the greatest respect for these students and their teacher/mentors, for these are our future chefs. And I expect to be well fed ! The school does have a cafe open to the public on Thursdays from noon to 1 pm at the AACT Restaurant, 380 Edison Way, Reno.

My updated review is primarily for the Culinary program that runs the AACT Restaurant. The Chefs…read more(teachers) do a great job with the kids in teaching them the ins and outs of culinary. I am amazed at the AACT Restaurant! The food is always tasty, very reasonably priced and changes every week. The kids take turns creating the menu, doing the work to establish pricing, learn to work the kitchen, as well as opportunities to earn some money and experience as servers to the dining area. These young adults are always very professional, and polite. Great skills being learned here. I love that this is open to the public. I hope that more people hear about it and support the students and the program. The restaurant is only open select Thursdays, so be sure to visit their website to see the dates and make a reservation. The menu changes each time. While pricing is not listed on the site, it is always reasonable and very tasty. I have been several times now, and my meal has never been more than $15 (app, entree, desert). The teacher was knowledgable and kind. The class lasted for an hour. If you have not ever taken a Community class I highly recommend taking these classes. They have offered them for years. I have taken a few in the past. The building and parking lot are well lit. The building is always clean and comfortable. Enjoy learning why not try and EPIC TMCC class! The class was so overcrowded with students I only got 2 hours of actual skills during 4-week class. they have 3 manual trucks and 1 automatic truck, all of them are filthy inside and are poorly maintained. Save your career and your wallet, look into three other local trucking schools/academies instead.

She explained the process to me and even found ways for me to save money if I was willing to take a few steps on my own ahead of time. The training facility is in Carson City. I attended the school for three days a week, (Tuesday, Thursday, Fridays,) and was able to complete my 100 to 120 hours in a little over a month. it was very helpful that I could make a custom training schedule to suit my Individual needs since I worked on the other weekdays while attending this program. I thought the instructors were very knowledgeable, easy-going, and willing to help each individual out to make sure you were gaining the necessary skills required for getting a CDL. I'm happy to say I am now a legal Class A Nevada license holder even had a job before I finished the program. I was also able to obtain my hazmat, doubles and triples, and tank endorsements through the DMV. So when I took my final test, I was ready to go out and work with as much eligibility as possible. I would also like to add that during the job search the 160 driving academy is very well-known and looked favorably upon from your new potential employers. I found this to be an asset during my job search. Also not having any restrictions on my license a.k.a. being able to drive manual transmissions, I found also to be a big benefit. Andrew

I proceeded to tell her that that was not my child. I have a daughter. She seemed confused. I repeated my daughter's name. She said "yeah, this is him". I said no.. that's not mine. I have a daughter. Not a son. She finally was able to get my daughter to me. Had I been some weirdo/creep, I could've easier walked away with that little boy. As if you need even more of a reason to avoid this place... the staff here is terrible to the kids. My daughter would always cry and hated going to Pebbles. I later found out that her teacher was constantly yelling at her and the other kids in her class. She was terrified of her and GOD knows how she was treating those poor kids. I've asked my daughter repeatedly if she was ever hit or grabbed by her teacher and she denies that BUT I did see her teacher roughly pull and shake a child in her class while she yelled at the poor crying little girl. I immediately withdrew my daughter after witnessing that. I spoke to a staff member about that incident and she admitted that that teacher is constantly yelling at the kids and is really rough with them. We ended up paying for a few weeks without even taking our daughter in because we were just so uncomfortable with the whole situation. Please do NOT send your kids here!!

The staff is amazing and the resources they offer the students seems endless. They provide tons of correspondence with parents so you don't feel out of the loop, while also encouraging students to be independent. There are many positives, and only a few negatives. You have to be willing and able to get your kids to and from school if they don't drive. No school buses going up there! Also, although you don't pay for the tuition, you still have to cover the cost of text books and course codes. However, there are scholarships and other assistance that is available. All in all, great program!
