I have never been to a yoga class and didn't know much about it except what I saw on TV. So I was pleasantly surprised when I went today and found that it was not difficult to do and it stretched all of the different muscles of the body. I was never in pain nor made to get into some position that would hurt. I enjoyed the stretching, the studio is kept at the right temperature, and the materials are all in excellent condition. And Pauline was wonderful, helping me when I needed help and was patient as this was my first time. I immediately signed up for a bunch more classes! read more

Alcove Yoga has been fantastic during my pregnancy. I attended prenatal classes in person in the beginning of the year and transitioned to online when the pandemic hit. Pauline is highly knowledgeable and a great teacher! Practicing yoga on a regular basis has been wonderful for my pregnancy and the community of new moms has been proven invaluable especially during these times of isolation. I'd highly recommend checking out the online classes. It's so convenient and there's on demand videos to practice on your own time as well. I decided to try out Iyengar Yoga during my pregnancy and Alcove yoga came up as a search result, with great reviews on Google. Having learnt yoga since I was 5 years old in India, I was a little skeptical to try a new form of yoga with a new teacher. But I will definitely tell you, this decision has been life-changing for me, especially because of Pauline. She is a meticulous, thorough and dedicated Yoga teacher, very updated on the current practice and mindful of all her student's issues & capabilities. I had a lower back issue since I was 18 and couldn't do many yoga postures, moreover, I was even afraid to go past 20 weeks of my pregnancy. With each week of the prenatal class, my confidence kept rising and I handled my pregnancy really well until the very end. 2 days before my delivery I was doing inverted postures and felt happy most of the times, I even had a normal delivery. I owe it to Iyengar Yoga and Pauline. Without such a great instructor whom you can trust completely, especially during pregnancy, I don't believe you achieve great results. Today I continue going to the class, to keep up with my peace of mind, increase my flexibility and my strength to handle a 16 month old ;). Thanks, Pauline!. read more

I have attended Pauline's Prenatal Yoga classes for both pregnancies (currently on no. 2) and I cannot recommend this class enough for women of all shapes and sizes to consider. This form of yoga is excellent preparation for childbirth, both mental and physical. Plus, you get to eat AMAZING and HEALTHY vegetarian dinner with other expecting moms. I have maintained vital connections with moms from this class that have offered this particular Houston transplant an invaluable resource including excellent word of mouth referrals to doulas, reflexologist, acupuncturists, and OB/GYNs as well as help navigating the variety of childcare institutions around Houston. There's usually a wait list to get in but there are just a couple spots left for October 2017 so if you are thinking about it - DEFINITELY try it. read more

The prenatal class was such a life line for me during my pregnancy. I started just before the pandemic began so was able to experience both the in-person and remote classes. Both were excellent. Pauline takes care to provide support with correct positioning and address any physical issues students are having. She also started an online forum for pregnant students to connect since we can't do so in person. I really recommend the prenatal classes if you are looking for consistency, breath work, stretching, or just some moments of calm. read more

This is a great yoga studio where you learn the correct alignment of the poses through precise instructions and personalized attention. The teachers give specific modifications of the poses to each student based on their own needs. Here, you can actually see yourself improve class by class and pose by pose. I take Pauline's Women's Class with dinner to keep fit, flexible and healthy both physically and mentally during pregnancy. I have complete confidence in her deep knowledge of yoga and her choice and modification of poses for prenatal yoga class. Pauline's classes skew towards true physical fitness instead of a breathing support group, which is what I was looking for. She also gives us time to share. I should add dinner is nutritious, delicious and unique each night. She cooks all day to prepare a complete meal for all the women in her class, served in her beautiful home which is adjacent to the studio. I highly recommend her prenatal yoga! read more

I'm involved in the Women's class and am expecting my first child; which brought me into the door at Alcove. This is a wonderful space with wonderful classes that are DIFFERENTIATED in pragmatic ways. Classes are small, and as a result everyone seems to make strides every time. Being a very new with my practice, I have found that I seem to sort of carry the awareness that I have from the yoga classes to my daily life- especially when I'm at work on my feet, or when I need to connect with myself or my baby. Pregnant or not- Instruction is hands-on, effective, and it's the best frigging time I have all week. read more

The reason Alcove Yoga gets just 4 stars* is only because it's 20+ miles from my house. I've been practicing Iyengar yoga off and on now since the mid '80s... it is quite honestly my favorite style of yoga because I feel it has the most integrity. Pauline built this beautiful studio as an extension to her home during last year's remodeling... and it is yoga heaven! To top it off... Pauline is an excellent teacher and is constantly deepening her practice and knowledge base by attending Iyengar workshops... making the 20+ mile drive well worth it when time allows. If you want to know what "attention to detail" really means... start a regular practice at this studio! *Edited 3/Oct/16... I have been going to Alcove yoga for about a year now and I have loved every minute of it. I look forward to having these few minutes of scheduled workout and "me" time every week. Pauline is a true yoga teacher. She takes her practice seriously and is very well versed in not only the asanas but the philosophy. I took her prenatal Womens class on Mondays and it was truly and incredible and unique experience. I currently take her level two classes and it is a challenge and very fulfilling. The male instructor is culturally intolerant. My attendance made him very unhappy. The website clearly describes the Level 1 class being for beginners, but I was told that this studio does not 'really" offer classes for beginners. read more
