Came back after being away a bit and the classes are still really great. Instructors are kind and help adjust your form and give techniques if needed. They have cold towels at the end with lavender and it's mostly clean. There's usually other people's dog hair that I end up coming home with and the lockers are a bit filthy. Front desk staff is always nice and overall a great workout no matter what class you go to.

I booked a private Pilates class with Meoka. This was my second time at the studio. It's a really pretty studio with a nice vibe. They have a nicely equipped studio with about 12 reformers. The restroom and changing rooms are nice and there is a small shower in case you need it. We used the weighted rings and the ball in our workout. They had towels and cleaner to spruce up after the workout. Meoka is an excellent instructor and I love her easy spirit. I felt the workout all through my arms and shoulders the next day. Parking was easy this time as we parked on the street in a free spot.

The positive is that the classes provide a decent muscle workout…read more The negatives; 1. This facility is overbooked. You will have to reserve far in advance for each individual class. If you have a 9-5, good luck ever being able to go. 2. Classes are almost always PACKED. You have to be careful not to get kicked or hit by the person next to you. Classes are in a room way too small for the class size. 3. They have a very unforgiving late policy. If you're 1 minute late to a class, they consider it a "no show" and LOCK THE DOORS and then charge you $20 on an automatic penalty! 4. It's expensive. For having to struggle just to book a class, why is it so costly? Their overhead is very low; the building is small and old, and all the equipment they use is cheap weights and mats that require no maintenance. So, you don't get as much out of the value. You can't rely on getting into a class, you don't get specialized attention, you're in packed room. Where exactly is the value at $35 per class? 5. Not clean. The room smells (of course, it's packed with 20 sweaty ppl class after class). They give you just one almost dry wipe to "clean" your mat, your weights, and any other equipment, which is basically doing nothing. 6. You have to clean up after yourself. It kind of feels like kindergarten because after a class, you line up to put away your own equipment one by one (after insufficiently disinfecting it with one evaporated wet wipe). At other studio classes they don't make you do this extra task. 7. You have to use special socks just to go to class. Forget your socks? $17 for new socks for the class. Come on. 8. There is almost no parking. There's usually 2-3 staff on duty, 20+ members trying to take a class, and maybe 8 parking spots, so you're going to have to look for a spot on the street. 9. If you know you won't be able to go regularly enough to justify a monthly pass, they sell class packs. But those expire, so you kind of end up rushing to use them up, and the classes are always packed. I ended up forfeiting like 3 classes. And they're not cheap! 10. Because the classes are so packed, the instructor seldom gets to you. Sure, they do a good job of remembering your name, but if your form is wrong, good luck getting anyone to help you. You might get one note per class, maybe two. If you don't know what you're doing, you don't get much out of the workout. 11. The instructors speak quickly and don't explain what they mean. They use lots of esoteric terms about the form, but they don't explain clearly. It's hard to keep up. These are the things that have annoyed me about going, to this particular location, so I declined to sign back up.

I have also been taking livestream classes from Define from my home during the pandemic. The classes are a good price ($12) compared the in-studio ones, and there are offerings from 5:30 AM to 7:00 PM, across all types of workouts. The studios are renting equipment for people who do not have that at home. However, since I am several states away, I am already set up with what I have here. I have taken bounce and body classes via livestream and the sound quality is great. There are one or two instructors on zoom, and one is cueing while another is demo-ing. I was also able to take two free classes (one body and one bounce) with the founder, Henry Richardson. I actually was able to talk to him both times before he started the class and he was so nice. My friend joined the bounce class and enjoyed his calm but motivating energy. If livestream continues as some studios open up, I will continue to take them from Kansas.

She just stayed in her seat minding to her own business. I had to ask her how to use the lockers, which had combination locks that didn't even work. I tried two different lockers already. Safe to say, I just brought my handbag into the cycling room because I couldn't trust the security of my things. The spin instructor was not very welcoming either. I had to set up my own stationary bike seat level, and I would've liked a little bit more help to make sure I was comfortable before starting the workout. I mean, the class was only 50% full. Once I did get started, the workout was challenging only because I kept the resistance on my bike up. Otherwise, the instructor was pretty lukewarm with her enthusiasm during the workout. Also, what the heck is up with the dimmed lighting?! I mean, if we were doing yoga or meditation, I get it. But, an intense cardio workout? I couldn't even see some of the moves she was telling me to do, to be honest. The lights should've just stayed on. Even then, the workout music was playing even louder than the instructor was talking. So, I barely knew what she was saying too. I don't feel there was effective communication at all. I wish the workout music was more upbeat as well. I mean, at one point, Ed Sheeran's song, "Perfect" started playing. I was like, wth? There were only women in the room. Awkward. Otherwise, the facility is very clean. They have a bathroom next to the changing rooms. They have automatic hand sanitizers and a water dispensing station. Also, they did give me a free pair of rental shoes for the spin class because it was my first time here. So, that was nice. I don't know that I'd be back, though, just because the customer service was not great, and the workout was not very inspiring.

It always felt like a chore - to wake up extra early and basically pay someone to torture you and then spend the next couple of days so sore you didn't want to do much. (Ok, I'm exaggerating on the torture but you get the gist). Along comes Crystal and Pilates. I had decided that I needed to find some way to work out since I'm at a desk all day. I came across a groupon for Pilates reformer and I decided to take a chance, it looked easy enough - why not? Looks easy, but that was a full body workout that had me drenched in sweat 20 minutes in! Who would have thought? I worked arms, legs, core and everything in between and the next day....I wasn't so sore that I couldn't move. Hallelujah! It was right then that I realized this was for me! An all over workout that didn't leave me sore and was easy on my back. That was over a year ago, Crystal is still amazing. I have slowly added mat Pilates, Hatha yoga (Artemis is the best! She helps stretch you out and relax after a hard Pilates workout), Barre Pilates and small group training. Basically almost every class that is offered I have tried. One of the best things is that the classes are small and everyone is at different levels but you don't feel intimidated. Everyone is encouraging, the veterans offering help to the newbies, no one takes themselves too seriously and the classes are just plain fun to attend. There's so much more that I could say about Synergy, Crystal and Artemis but I doubt I have much more room left to write. Basically - affordable, fun, workouts with some great people. I'm definitely a lifer, as Crystal has helped me become a healthier person one class at a time.

I later found out that the free class doesn't include reformer Pilates, so I signed up for a Yin Yoga class instead. I've been practicing yoga for over two decades. Signing up online was easy but I received a flood of emails asking me to download different apps along with multiple email and text reminders for one class. Personally, I found the reminders excessive. The studio wasn't very busy when I arrived around 4:30 pm. However, I wasn't told which room my class was in, so I found myself wandering around until another member kindly pointed me in the right direction. Unfortunately, my first interaction with the instructor left a poor impression. As I was walking into the room and putting my phone on silent, she immediately said, "No phones inside." The comment came across as abrupt and presumptive. I wasn't planning to use my phone during class as I was simply silencing it before putting it away. A friendlier approach would have made a much better first impression. She then asked me to grab two yoga blocks. Once inside, I found the room extremely dim. As someone with low vision, it was difficult to navigate and I briefly considered leaving. Since I was already there and because I'd practiced hundreds of Yin Yoga classes but had never experienced a heated Yin class, I decided to stay. I'm actually a longtime fan of heated yoga and love Bikram yoga (now hot yoga) when it first opened in HTX. The class itself was somewhat enjoyable and I felt good both during and afterward. After class, I wasn't sure where to return the yoga blocks. Another student asked me the same question and we quickly realized we were both first-time visitors. This highlighted something that could easily be improved: it would be helpful if instructors spent just a minute welcoming first-time students and explaining a few basics, such as studio etiquette, where to put props after class, and any post-class expectations. Small touches like that can make newcomers feel much more comfortable. Before leaving, I checked out the locker rooms and noticed they have showers. The facility is spacious and offers a wide variety of classes, including aerial yoga, which looked interesting. Overall, the studio has a lot to offer. However, the onboarding experience and instructor interaction could be more welcoming for first-time visitors. While the facility is impressive, I'm not sure I can justify paying over $200/month for a membership although there are lower tiers. in addition, I travel abroad frequently and read that there is a $35 fee to freeze the account.
