He was under their care for a month for a broken bone and saw him every week and failed to diagnose a heart condition. Ultimately , this resulted in his death. I can't say enough about Alder creek veterinary services. My cat was 16 years old and went over the rainbow bridge. They were so kind without me asking, they made copies of her Paw and whiskers prints and gave me her hair in a vial. They also sent by me a sympathy card. Do NOT use this clinic! I took my puppy there last week for incontinence issues. They did a urine analysis which showed sugar and protein in her urine. The vet proceeded to tell me that my puppy may have kidney disease or diabetes. It was then decided that we needed to do more blood work to make sure she didn't have kidney disease since we would be spaying her soon and anesthesia can be detrimental in animals with kidney disease. The bloodwork came back normal. The vet then told me that the urine analysis was inaccurate and he didn't believe the results and my dog was fine. I requested not to pay for the lab work since the results were wrong and was told I had to pay them anyway. I have called and talked to the supervisor who told me that no matter what, they are not refunding me (even though the vet told me they were inaccurate results). I asked to speak to the owner and was told no at first and then that she would leave a message for her but that she couldn't guarantee that she would call me back. I paid $210 for an exam, urine analysis and blood work. I am out all of that money and have to go and get all those tests redone at a facility that has accurate machines. The vet even told me he didn't trust the results and I still had to pay! Do not take your animal here. You will have to take them somewhere else for a second opinion anyways. If you can't trust their labs then can you trust their medical advice? read more

For example, when my husband was going through cancer treatment she went above and beyond to help us with any and all mysterious issues that arose with our dog with professionalism, flexibility, and grace. (Sympathy injuries, seizures being exposed to the chemo... really stressful things!) She helped us during that time, and during all of the other more normal times of our dog's life, with knowledge, experience, and, most importantly, CARE. My x wife and I have been going here for years, our family, many friends and acquaintances belonging to AKC have all been trusting Alder Creek to care for our furry family members. We taken all of our animals here, and never had an expirence like I had today with a receptionist named Janet. My 16 year old chihuahua "Bran Muffin" who has been the light and joy of our lives has developed a cough, and according to the incredibly nice Dr., has a heart murmur and will need medication for the rest of her life. That news was heartbreaking to say the least, but I've always felt like her health was in good hands with every Dr there at Alder Creek. Now, I wasn't anticipating this disheartening news, x-rays, blood panel, medication, all of it came to close to $400.00. So a few years ago they helped me out with splitting the cost between my payment now and my next paycheck, in this case a little over a week away. So, I asked the very nice receptionist (they have always been more than polite and respectful) if we could split it up to help me out this time. And an older receptionist with gray short hair and glasses who was not helping decided to chime in and said "No, that's not something we do and you would have needed to call in advance,..." I stated my surprise and mentioned that they have helped before and it would me out a great deal, and she continued with "you would needed to call ahead of time and if you would have, we would have turned you away...if it has been done before, you are the lone strange one then because we are not a bank and do not issue loans". She mentioned in a loud tone for everyone to hear that im more than welcome to take my pets elsewhere. I asked her nicely but firmly to "please stop, I don't appreciate the condescending tone". She then walked around the counter where My chihuahuas medication was sitting, she grabbed it off the counter and said "you're not getting this until you give me your card". I was beyond embarrassed and offended to be treated like this, I said I was going to pay and asked that she place the medication back on the table and she kept repeating two more times "no, not until you give me your card". I have never in my life, ever, with any company or institution ever been talked to like this or have been so incredibly humiliated. I decided to have the original receptionist who started helping me run the card and checkout. I set it next to her and the angry receptionist walked around her and forcefully grabbed my credit card before she could get to it and ran the card. I asked for her name and the clinic managers information and she ignored me and just left the area, I had to get her name from the other receptionist, who mentioned the angry receptionists name was Janet. Its so hard to believe that in a day and age where social media reaches so many, and in a a setting like veterinarian clinic where what we consider members of our family are cared for, our once in a lifetime relationships we only get for the few years we get to care for them, that someone like Janet would treat someome so awful. Done with the incompetence of this clinic and their vets. I first brought my dog here when he was a puppy and jumped out of a moving vehicle. The male vet who saw him gave him a "thorough physical exam" and did X-rays before telling us there was absolutely nothing wrong with our dog. We then pointed out that his scrotum had road rash and was 3x the normal size (extremely hard to miss). He was absolutely oblivious. Thankfully we pointed this out to the "expert" and had our poor boy neutered. Today I brought HIM in for a check up with a different vet who gave him a physical exam in front of me. I discussed how HE really liked having HIS ears scratched and wanted them looked at just to make sure there wasn't any kind of infection. She immediately offered to write an rx for steroid drops and told me how to use them. I told her I wanted to monitor HIM further and have her look at them first. As a Doctor of Pharmacy myself, I do not condone the use of steroids with out an evidenced, legitimate reason. They then expressed HIS anal glands and looked in HIS ears with a scope and she told me "HER" ears looked perfectly fine and "SHE" did a very good job with the expression procedure. I became incredibly anxious and explained how concerned I was that after a physical exam and having access to HIS chart she was unable to tell she was caring for a MALE dog. I explained how this did not instill much confidence and was very concerning. She said nothing. Just because a clinic looks fancy, doesn't mean they have competent veterinarians working there. I have been bringing my Pug here for about 3 years. I had him fixed and just got my kitten fixed there as well. Both surgeries I was told a price range and both times it was way higher then they "quoted" me. The thing that broke the camels back I guess you could say was this last time I took my cat in for a spay. I paid probably $150 over what they said. They gave her sedation medication to help keep her calm and I bought flea medicine. A week in a half later they called stating they had my cars sedation medication and it's ready for pick up. I explained to them I already have it and didn't need a refill. they proceeded to explain to me that i wasn't charged for the flea medicine. so they were going to credit me the $20 some dollars for sedation but I owe them $60 for the flea stuff. I said no I don't. #1 don't wait for a week in a half to call about the medication and that we were not charge for something. I asked for a manager to call me and no one has called me back. The worst customer service you can get when it comes to a vets office. I had been going to this vet for over a year and had dealt with them multiple times. Nearly every time I found their staff incredibly rude and incompetent for the most part. The last straw for me was when I had a very sick dog. She had been having some stomach issues that were not getting any better. I figured it was time to take her into the vet. As she had seen them before, I figured they would be able to squeeze her in that day. When I called first thing in the morning, the woman that I spoke to was incredibly rude and had no compassion whatsoever. She told me that there was one other person that was first on the list to get looked at on standby. She said they would give me a call back by 11am that morning. They NEVER even bothered to call back. I found a great veterinary hospital in Ridgefield that was more than accomodating and very friendly. Huge change over this vet. The vet in Ridgefield was able to get her in later that day. After I had picked her up I was livid that Alder Creek veterinary never even bothered to call me back and it was 5PM. I called and told them of the horrible experience I have had there. The woman I spoke to that time apologized and told me a manager would call me back. I really shouldn't be surprised at this point, ...but I never received a call back. When you do call them, if you can even get through to a live person..most of the time they stick you on hold. If you want to deal with rude uncompassionate people...go to this vet. They have a beautiful office and they do offer reproductive services and the actual vets that I have dealt with have been nice...It's too bad their staff sucks so bad. If I was the owner of this establishment...I'd probably fire every last one of them at the front desk and hire all new people. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. I took my bunny in for a routine spay. They wanted me to get her there at 8/830am... I worked and waited ALL day for a call- every time I tried to call the hold times went on forever- finally I got a hold of someone at about 5pm- they said she JUST went into surgery... I get a call from the dr saying she nicked an artery - and wasn't using her back legs- but thought it was due to the pain and blood loss- I could come get her. I came to get her right away and she was obviously paralyzed in her back legs I fed her critical care all night and syringe fed her water - by morning it was very bad. She wasn't eating or drinking and was very cold. I called the clinic to tell them at 830am that she needed to be seen. They told me she couldn't come in that day as the other vet working was allergic to bunnies!! I didn't know what to do! I called East Padden and had an emergency appointment at 10 am where they told me she was for sure paralyzed, hypothermic and thought internal bleeding and was suffering and in critical condition. I made the heartbreaking decision to have her euthanized- 320 dollars! Alder creek called me at almost 12 pm and said I could bring her in for fluids - she was already gone. I am SO MAD at this place. My bunny wasn't "just a bunny" she was like a cat. Do not go here. read more

My family has been with Alder creek for 10+ years, they were an amazing vet. I just recently had to put down my cat, she was 13 and was at the end of her road. I first called the vet, they said they would have the emergency vet call me back in an hour, never did. I then called the next day and schedule an appt. When we got there, it took 20 mins to get into a room and while all my family was emotional in the lobby with little compassion from the staff. After we got into the room (right next to the waiting room... heard the outside noise, barking dogs, and people talking throughout the experience), the vet came in and was practically interrogating us, saying they don't like to do "convenient putdowns", while practically man-handling my cat who was tired. It took 30 mins of being the room to get the relaxing injection... after the injection we waited another 25-30 mins of watching my cat struggle against the relaxing agent. Finally after about an 1 1/2 hours, the actual euthanize procedure happened. (Had to put down my childhood dog at this clinic couple years before, was done within 20 mins of arrival) The whole experience was traumatic and not sentimental at all. The staff and vet, had little to no compassion towards me and my family. It has been a little over a month and I have heard nothing from the vet about her ashes, no call. If you are looking for a vet, please do not choose this clinic. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE!!! For a veterinarian that specializes in reproductive services they are completely incompetent and take no accountability for their poor lack of knowledge, Being a first time breeder I came in eager & optimistic to learn all about the process of breeding... however, the only thing I learned was to read reviews throughly and to do more research a place firmly before bringing my dog... The entire process was a headache. I wasn't allowed to go back with my dog so I wasn't able to ask any questions.. when I would ask something, I was told the Dr would give me a call...she hardly ever did. Breeding requires a bunch of progesterone tests so I was there pretty often for weeks & weeks, and every single time I was rushed out. With no info, and any question I had, unanswered. Just billed and sent off. The billing receipts had no real information on any tests done, just a brief description on the procedure. No data thats related, everything was verbal. When my dog (French bulldog) was finally at a level were she was apparently "ready" to breed..I had overnight shipped some VERY EXPENSIVE semen from the stud I had chosen to be used for the artificial insemination process. About 8-9ccs were shipped, that's enough for maybe 3 ai's.. however they decided once was enough (which it's not) and toss the rest.. or to go ahead and use it all in one go..without checking with me. So later that day when I call to reschedule for another ai, I was told they needed more semen.. The semen was $5,000!! so I was furious. when I called them out on how they handled it. They attempted to cover their end by saying the invoice to what was shipped was wrong, that they only received enough for one... which was a blatant lie. I called numerous times and was told the Dr would reach out to me. It took maybe 2-3 weeks of me calling regularly to finally be able to get in touch with her, and when I did, all I got was excuses, lies, and complete denial of any accountability. Later I went and scheduled an ultrasound at a different veterinary...And exactly what I expected.. no puppies... Please do not see Dr. Phillip Meltzer! I've had both my dogs and cat seen here and the service was alright until my recent two visits. My puppy was recently spayed here and the first time we brought her in they gave her anesthesia and after we were home and she was already asleep, they called and said they could not do it cuz she had some pimples on her belly (which we had brought her in for two times prior and all they gave us was an antibiotic spray which only helped for a short while). My puppy gets excited to see people and automatically submits to the floor on her back for loves and attention. So it would be very hard to miss the fact that she had break out on her belly. It was annoying but we let it go. Unfortunately I had the worst experience a few days ago when I brought my other dog in for a check up on his ear (he had a hematoma which they drained a week before). While I was waiting for the doctor in our room I asked if my dog needed to update any of his shots. The lady told me of three shots that he was due for and I told her yes but I needed to call my boyfriend for confirmation since we are "co-parents" and he would be the one paying for the visit. When Dr. Meltzer came in, he instantly was just rude and didn't even greet us. My dog was excited and nervous as most dogs are in a new place with smells and other dogs. The first thing he said was "Ew he smells horrible". WHAT? We live on property and my dog hasn't had a bath in a while due to having the hematoma and a cone on but I swear I never noticed his him being smelly at all. I was just silent because I was taken back by his attitude, his tone, and the way he looked down on me. He went to take a look at my dogs ear but after quite literally 5 seconds said, "I can't do this he's too hyper". Again I was silent in awe. "I'm going to have to do this in another room." I said okay and then I asked about the shots my dog needed updated. He told me there were four that were due. I said ok and then just asked if he would elaborate on what the fourth one was because I was curious and unfamiliar. He explained then I said ok and then he took my dog back to another room. Five minutes later the doctor walks in and asked if I wanted all four vaccines and I said yes. He then asked why I needed to call my boyfriend. Again I was confused why that was any of his business or a problem. I said "Oh just to ask my bf if it all sounded right and if it was ok." I kid you not Dr. Phillip Meltzer says "Why, is your boyfriend giving your dog vaccines at home?" WTF? Of course not! I just looked at him dumbfounded and told him my bf was just wondering how much everything was going to be. He said ok and then left. Just his overall tone and the way he spoke with me was extremely disrespectful as if I didn't know anything about my own dog. Idk I have a weird feeling about it and I just don't trust them anymore. Their waiting room is a big cluster and they are not organized at all. We stood at the fringe entrance for over 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged, and all the patients are corralled onto 3 church pews all together while they wait. The vet was good, but he didn't explain or get permission for all the extra services he did, and it ended up being about 3x the price we were anticipating. We usually go to BG Animal Hospital, and they have separate waiting cubicles for each pet, greet us right away, and are careful about explaining and getting permission before each test or procedure, including explaining the cost. Alder Creek has a prettier exterior, but I would always elect to take my pet to VCA Battle Ground when possible read more

Something is very wrong with this clinic!!~!! There are many, many terrible reviews about their office staff especially Janet on another site. We have been going to this vet for about 7 years and had problems there before with the "staff". They screw meds up, don't have them in stock and are sooooooo rude. We scheduled 2 of our dogs for a spay and neuter. Today, we took our female in for her spay. We filled out an intake form with the phone number to contact today and the other info required. We were there by 9:00. At noon, I got a call from a gal asking if we wanted a dental cleaning. My son had already clarified when he took Gabby in that we only wanted the spay. I then got 3 more calls on my cell and on my landline. I contacted my son to call them. He was driving and couldn't hear them very well (cell service) so he was talking loudly. Our girl was already put to sleep when Janet told him they weren't going to do the surgery on Gabby (after she was already asleep). Because he had yelled at her-------really---he could barely hear on the phone. She also called me and told me we needed to pick up our Gabby and they wouldn't be performing the surgery. I think it was because we declined the dental cleaning that they were already instructed not to do!!! Please don't go here, you dog's health is in jeopardy. We are contacting the Veterinarian Board as this is unacceptable to put our dog to sleep and then say they won't perform the surgery. Dr. Miller even defended Janet! read more

Long before covid ....This had been our vet for almost 7 years when one of our dogs (an established patient of this clinic) began having seizures again and when I called to have him seen they basically said they were too busy and couldn't see him for 2 weeks. I tried 5 times over the next couple of months to get him seen by 'his regular vet clinic' as his seizure activity increased. He had a history of seizures that had been treated at alder creek The message came through loud and clear that they didn't care and it made no difference that he was one of their patients. I don't know what happened over the years. It was heartbreaking to have to take him to a strange vet and begin again, ultimately have if to let him go. Fortunately the vet we found was very kind and compassionate. All of this happened in spring and summer of 2019 so they can not use covid as the excuse for such poor care. Had a really great experience here. Took my new kitten here for de-worming and flea shots. Very lovely and clean place and nice service. I was able to make an appointment for the next day. I was able to use a coupon which they gave me for a free frontline plus. Front desk and doctors were both nice and told me everything I needed to know about my kitten. One bad point is that I was suppose to have a follow up appointment which was set about three weeks after my first one. But I forgot, and they never called or sent a reminder. I have multiple opinions about this vet. I am uncomfortable with both the male and female veterinarians. I have a cat that I can't have indoors anymore due to allergies that were unveiled while she was 8 months old with one of my family members. She is taken care of extremely well in all aspects even while being outdoors. I flea and deworm her, feed her, and have outdoor housing and everything for her; And she absolutely loves it outside, prefers it even you could say. It was time for her 3 year rabies vaccine, so I brought her in a week after the vaccine reminder came in the mail. They preceded to tell me I had to get her 1 year booster done over again because I was a WEEK late. So I did it because I thought I had no other choice. You are telling me that 1 week makes a difference? I think not. Not only that, but due to my cat being long-haired, she sometimes gets matts underneath her belly that I have to shave or brush out periodically, which I do. When I brought her in, the lady vet pointed out she had a couple matts and without my permission went and got a shaver and started shaving my cats underbelly. I was honestly dumbfounded so I sat there and said nothing. And the worst part was that they charged me for it when I went to pay for the vaccine. They did not tell me it would cost anything, let alone their audacity to just start chopping on my cats fur; It left a bad taste in my mouth. I brought her back just recently for the 3 year since a year had passed, on time, and this time the male doctor was in office. He walked in basically telling me I needed this vaccine and that vaccine. My goodness, it was frustrating. I have got her distemper, rabies and these leukemia vaccines they recommend for cats done in the past. This time I decided to hold off on the leukemia, which he was absolutely against. I felt extremely degrading behavior directed towards me from him for that choice. I only wanted the rabies this time and he went on a rant about how leukemia is a "very dangerous disease" and stuff. However, then he also told me because I was getting a bit defensive, for good reason due to his tone and lack of manners, that another round would make it even better and give my cat less chance of getting the disease. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is no vaccine for leukemia in dogs, so how can they guarantee a cat won't get it? Also, I already did a round of the vaccine, the first shot and booster. Both interactions with the vets have left me feeing incompetent and overall disrespected as if I have no idea how to take care of an animal. My cat legitimately loves being outside and actually prefers it because it truly is her natural habitat. She is spayed and everything so she's not out getting pregnant, and she sticks around the house. I just want to say that they act very unprofessional, even the staff and front desk. The front desk didn't even want to give me my latest rabies tag because they said cats have a hard time keeping a collar on. I honestly don't care and would just like my tag so I have it lol. Also, I was given them in the past for the 1 year vaccines so there shouldn't be an issue. They have extremely bad manners and professionalism. I do not like being made to feel like a child or made to feel guilty for owning a cat that lives outside. That has been very hard to deal with. Especially considering all I did and continue to do to take care of her after finding out my family member is allergic. I am trying my best to accommodate both my family and my cat in the best way possible. My cat is 3 years old and has been outdoors since she was 8 months old, is very well taken care of, sticks around and is well groomed when I find the time to brush her, and each time I go to this vet they make it a priority to find a reason for why my cat needs to be indoors, how I'm not grooming her well enough, or undermining my logic and reason for giving her the vaccines in which I am certain will benefit her. Highly recommend you search elsewhere for a good vet who is understanding of your lifestyle and treats you with compassion. I too will be searching elsewhere in the future. read more

The dr's are amazing and I would give them 5 stars. Unfortunately the staff is terrible. Very rude.....It's incredible the disconnect between the dr's and staff. I was honest about a mistake they made and while I won't go into details Suffice it to say, looking for a new vet. Not an easy thing when you have elderly dogs who need specialized treatment. read more

We brought our kitty in for a spay after our veterinarian of 2 decades decided he wasn't going to do surgeries any longer (he recommended Alder Creek). First visit at Alder Creek was for a brief exam: they were short-staffed and running behind. As a person who works in healthcare (for humans, though), I know how this goes and I surely know it can be stressful, it can make errors more likely to happen, etc. Luckily for me, it was my day off and it didn't inconvenience me. We did get back to the exam room; it wasn't even that long of a wait, maybe 15 minutes after our appointment time. In the room, Dr. Young was so patient and kind with my cat. We believe this cat was from a feral mom's litter (?) - quite skittish and spazzy. The cat was in the carrier and didn't want to come out, and I mentioned to Dr. Young that I could gently tip the carrier so that the kitty would slowly slide onto the exam table. Dr. Young said, "Well she hasn't had many experiences with veterinarians, so I'm hoping to make it as minimally stressful as I can." And knowing that they were behind and having a very busy morning... I dont think I will ever forget that. Just picked her up from surgery and they did a great job. Thank you, Dr. Young!!! The vet tech who went over discharge instruction was also very kind and professional, and the front desk staff work hard and are very pleasant and efficient. The clinic itself is very clean and nice, too!! Reasonable prices, also - my checkbook groaned at the recommended overnight post-op boarding, but there was no charge for it. We recently had our young dog neutered at a different vet clinic, and the "upcharging" was ludicrous. If I lived in Battle Ground I would pursue geting all of my pets established here. So so so thankful to have found this place! I took my kitten Oke yesterday and I loved them! They were so compassionate and caring towards me but specially Oke. I cannot express how thankful and lucky I feel to have found them, and they are very affordable as well. I had been looking for affordable and caring vets and got stuck with Banfield... but, I am never taking my cats there again after visiting Alder Creek! This is my first review for a business as I am not that type of person, but they very well deserve 5+ stars. read more
