They truly care for the people and pets that come in and I have never had a vet call and check in with me to see how my puppy is doing while in the care of an emergency vet. GET A SECOND OPINION.... Our cat Pepe le Pew, was diagnosed with FIV and we were given a few options, one of which was to have him put down in order to "Protect other cats" which I agreed with as we had another cat at home. My wife, most likely out of not being ready to let him go so fast, decided to wait. Meanwhile, we booked an appointment with our local vet for a second opinion. Our local vet tested both our cats and it was determined neither has FIV. I understand that this is a business and they have family members to put food on the table for, but don't do it while trying to remove a member of mine. These people are either evil or incompetent. I feel like posting this review might save someone else's pet. read more

Dr. Onstott and her team are warm and caring both to pets and people. We just switched to Riverview and I have no regrets.

I have been with this vet for years. He took care of my dog who passed from cancer. I got mugged and therefore had to lock my bank account until I got new drivers license. My new dog chewed stuffing out of her toy and now has a blockage. I asked if he would see her and let me pay when I get my account unlocked (within a couple weeks) he said no!!!! Any vet who cares for their wallet before the well being of an animal, does not deserve to take care of animals! If you love your pet don't take them here! I'm just devastated!!! Best vet clinic in Vancouver! They care for all four of our beloved doggos. Dr. Lisa Onstott just treated our precious Shih-Tzu, who had a mast cell tumor. She and Dr. Scott Keppner teamed up on the tricky surgery, which was successful. Porsche is doing great now! Helped us out in an emergency situation by quickly working our goat "Gimli" in for an x-ray to confirm whether or not he ingested a sharp screw. Very stressful situation for us but the staff handled it like champs and quickly confirmed that there was no screw present in our problem child! Where do I start? I have been through a lot with my animals the past 15 years. From old age, to liver failure, heartworm, ehrlichia (tick borne disease) and lastly cancer. Needless to say, I've consulted with many veterinarians. Dr. Scott Kepner has been, by far, the most caring and informative of all. He and his staff even came to my home to euthanize my best friend Hookshina. No stress from going into the office, No being frightened. He was home in his own bed. My dog had kidney disease and a chronic ear infection and Dr. Scott prescribed antibiotics. However, the Baytril's dose was too high and my dog threw up all the antibiotics and food. That was very bad because the bacteria developed resistance to those antibiotics. This also caused the beginning of stomach ulcers and my dog not wanting to eat because of the pain. During the office visit, Dr. Scott said I should give my dog baby aspirin because that helps with the kidneys. That s not true, not for animals nor people. Aspirin, pain killers and certain antibiotics tax the kidneys and are one of the causes for kidney disease. Aspirin helps with the heart but is not good for the kidneys. Please google or research this information, and if you know of anybody who takes aspirin regularly, let them know it can damage their kidneys. Riverview Animal Hospital is very expensive. I only wish the quality was as high as the prices. read more

One of the worst things a vet hospital/clinic can do is cause unnecessary pain and discomfort to your pet. We put our trust in Riverview Animal Hospital when we dropped off our cat Lulu on October 1, 2021, for a teeth cleaning. We did NOT authorize any other procedure. The vet made an unconscionable decision to perform surgery on our cat. Not only did we NOT give permission for an invasive surgery, but we also were never given the opportunity to review the risks to our cat OR review the fees associated with the surgery! They claim to have called me to get permission that morning, but I have no such call logged on my phone or a VM. They could have called my husband, as they have his number too, but they didn't. When I called to inquire why they performed the surgery, without permission, I was told it was in her best interest to have it. Since when does the vet make such important decisions without approval from the family? We were given a $887.61 bill, with all sorts of random charges. The vet told me, during Lulu's check up, in August, her cleaning would cost a little over $300 and that's what we expected to pay. Our teenage son went to pick up Lulu and obviously didn't have that amount of money with him, so they called my husband for their money. They made no effort to call him to discuss surgery when they couldn't reach me, but they can call him when they want to get paid? During my call to them, I was extremely upset. They refused to apologize or admit fault. When I said I wanted a refund for half of the bill to compensate us for THEIR error in judgment, they said "we are at an impasse and my family is no longer welcome to their hospital." Danielle, who handles the billing and married to one of the vets there, told me this! Seriously? You put our beloved cat at risk and charged us an exorbitant fee, but WE are the bad guys? Having had pets for decades, I've had the privilege to meet many wonderful veterinarians who cared for my cats and dogs. After moving to Vancouver several years ago I attempted to establish a "family doctor" for the furry kids, but just didn't connect with any as I'd previously done in my former city. I tried the "chain" clinic and small town clinic. Both not good experiences. A groomer in Washougal detected a minor ear infection in one of my dogs and referred me to Dr. Kepner. Any doctor who will get down on the ground, assess the patient, and explain things in such a way I fully understood and trusted, has my attention. He even explained how the dog's ear canal differs from a humans and allowed me to peek using his otoscope. Like the amazing vet I had in Scottsdale, Scott's care was kind and conservative. I never feel like I'm being given an a la carte menu of services (like when you take your car to the dealership for repairs). He suggests, recommends, and helps to make the best decisions. The cost of veterinary care around town is pretty consistent, however the quality of care is not. Knowing I can reach my vet by cell phone, though I've never called, is a bonus. read more

I had thought Scott is was an incredible vet. This last week I scheduled my Pom for a neuter. I called ahead of time for a price quote as my budget is tight right now and it's the holiday season but I put my dog first, I asked that everything be included in the quote so no surprises. I chose to take my dog to Scott, our regular vet, even though the one one McGillvery was $130 cheaper. I wanted to be loyal to my vet. When I went to pick him up that evening I was told my dog had an undecended testicle and my bill was over $100 more than quoted, totaling $350. (No phone call, no warning at all, even though the quote they had given me promised a call if there was more that a 15% difference from the quote.) Now, undecended testicle is a common occurrence with poms and my last Pom had it too but here's the difference, when I took my last Pom to the vet to be neutered they discovered the undecended testicle during the pre-surgical exam and called me to let me know and that there would be a price change as a result, giving me the opportunity to reschedule if needed. RiverView did not give me that opportunity, they also didn't include go home meds on the quote I had requested. In the end they only wanted their money and didn't care about anything else, they even kept my puppy in the back until they got it. I'll be honest, I'm heartbroken, I thought this was a clinic that could be trusted but like many vets in this big city they seem to only care about how much they can make off of you. I don't even have any proof that my dog even HAD and undecended testicle, my last vet showed me the proof, Scott did not, they just said we did this now you owe us this much. The ladies at the counter knew I was going through financial hardship and I had to budget this which is why I asked for the quote in the first place. By the way, that vet on McGillvery would have charged $150 total (saving me $200) to do the same procedure, the one my husband insisted we go to but I wanted to stay loyal to MY VET. I'll never hear the end of it now. Lesson learned. read more
