I needed to make a pit stop and this Food Lion worked well…read more The bathroom was clean and they had some great products that I like at an affordable price. I bought organic pineapple chunks, organic lentils (pictured) which are a great snack on the road and Rise organic cold brew (dark and sugar free just like I like it). I stopped drinking coffee earlier this year and all I eat and drink is organic food, so this is one of my few exceptions when I must stay up. Apparently instant coffee is high in acrylamide which is what I am reducing. Dark-roasted coffee has the least acrylamide. They had organic blueberries, but they were a little pricey, so I passed on them. I almost bought other organic berries that were on sale. They had organic oats and organic pasta sauce that I considered, but I knew I was getting them later elsewhere with my entire grocery list. I was stoked on the Dal because Whole Foods and grocery stores run out of it sometimes and I hadn't seen it in a while. They had eight bags of the only two kinds that I like because I don't eat dairy which is one way it can be prepared. They also had two kinds that I had never seen that looked good. They cost $3.39 and I have paid $3.99 for them elsewhere.

I was obviously embarrassed, but in no time I had one of the staff behind me helping to pick them up, and then the manager appeared with towels to clean up the soda! They apologized to me (and it was my fault!) and got me another 12 pack and cleaned up the entire mess (I did offer to clean it up though)! I haven't had such a pleasant experience grocery shopping in a long time! So helpful! I will always shop here!

This market is about a 50/50 split between East Asian and South Asian. The sign says World Market,…read morebut it's just Asian (to be fair, these regions probably cover half the world's population). It is a decent-sized store compared to the few tiny competitors that dot the region. It's nothing like what you'd find in the DC area or the Patel Brothers you could get in North Carolina, but assuming you don't want to drive that far for food, this place certainly had sufficient selection to warrant a visit. There was a small selection of fresh produce and abundant frozen dumplings and vegetables. Tofu and other protein options for the vegetarian were also well represented. I found some interesting beverages and snacks, and despite it being busy I experienced a reasonably swift checkout experience. For what it is, this place seems a success to me.

My hometown of Roanoke, VA has some decent eclectic international grocery stores, but the best in…read moremy opinion is the Oasis World Market, which is 45 minutes down the road from me. Oasis is located in Blacksburg Square's shopping center in Blacksburg, VA and features a spacious interior with plenty of aisles to browse. The store primarily sells products from the continents of Africa and Asia with a wide range of produce, meats, spices, snacks, and drinks. Every time I pay them a visit, I stock up on various málà soup bases for my hotpot and tandoori spices for grilling. They have a nice selection of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks from around the world that are worth checking out as well. The prices can be a little high, but overall, this is worth it for the quality of imported products you can purchase. If you need assistance in finding anything, the staff are ready to help. The trip to Blacksburg is always worth it to be able to shop at Oasis World Market, so give them a visit if you are in Southwest Virginia.
