Loved the food! Even if you don't speak Spanish you will still have a good time! Servers were very kind.

I got the blackened mahi-mahi fish tacos, which were fine but the fish was a little overcooked. My fish could have been a little more tender, is what I'm saying to you. Most of the tacos come with cabbage, tomato, guacamole, cheese and white sauce. You can pick from flour tortillas or corn tortillas. (I picked corn tortillas, because of course.) Chips and pico de gallo are brought out to start, and the chips are dynamite. They are the type of tortilla chips that are warm and thin and crispy and hard to stop eating! I visited this restaurant with a group of people, so we got a bunch of the appetizers, beyond the chips and salsa. We got the guacamole (yum!) as well as the Baja shrimp & crab dip (so good, and served with pita bread), and the queso dip, which is just melted cheese, so you know it's really good. Cabo Fish Taco is known for their margaritas, though. This restaurant has one of the largest tequila menus in the state of Virginia! You can find 13 or more specialty margaritas on the menu, so there's something for every margarita lover. I got The Perfect Wave, which is a blend of their tequila, Cointreau and Grand Marnier. It was tasty! If the weather is nice, you should opt for the patio seating, like my party and I did! They have a huge outdoor patio, and it was nice to sit and enjoy the nice weather outdoors while eating Mexican food.

The Ahi tuna in my tacos was done perfectly. It was blackened just right and most importantly, it was cooked just the way I like it (and exactly the way I think it should be). Honestly, I liked picking the tuna out of the taco and eating it directly so that the rest of the taco didn't mask any of the goodness. The shrimp tacos were reportedly very good as well. I had the avocado pasta salad. It was good, but I can't say that I noticed any avocado flavor. It was quite good. One friend had the rice and beans. It's black beans and rice and was reported to be very good. My other friend had the mashed potato side and said that it was very heavy on the jalapeno. Be warned. Generous refills were provided for the chips and salsa. The salsa is chunky and not well mixed. Once you get the tomatoes mixed in with the rest of the ingredients, it's a damn good salsa. There are a few jalapenos in there to kick things up just a bit. I didn't have any drinks, but the draft menu looked great, and they have an extensive cocktail and tequila menu. The interior is bigger than you'd think looking at it from the street. The place was clean. We had a party of 10 and were seated quickly and then had stellar service throughout the meal. This place is recommended when you're wandering around the quaint town of Roanoke and need a food fix.

My husband got their chicken tacos and he said the chicken tasted good but something was completely off about the white sauce. The rice and beans were okay as well. Overall, I have had better tacos in Roanoke and these were not it. The ambiance is super chill. It's not a fancy place so you can come in sweatpants and grab a taco for go as well.

Located in an up…read moreand coming chick area at 416 Salem Ave SW, Roanoke, Virginia, it reasantly went through a thorough renovation. I arrived for an early dinner on a Wednesday late afternoon / early evening. Very impressed with the quality building structure renovation and with the elegant open space interior design, I asked the Host / Server for a table and I was seated and given a copy of the menu. To drink I ordered the Housemade Lemonade. As I waited and examined the menu, I observed the beautiful open space renovation with nice and comfortable furniture and outstanding works of art decorating the restaurant. The server arrived with my drink and a welcoming smile and took my order. For apappetizer I ordered the Chips and Choriqueso. And for my main entry I ordered two Flank Steak and one Pork Carnitas tacos. Two of them Traditional style and one Gringo style. And for dessert the Churrosticks. The iced lemonade was one of the best lemonades I've ever had. Very lemony and the right sweetness. The quality of the Chips and Choriqueso was superb and the tacos were simply delicious. The service was superb. My server came by at the appropriate times to check on me and provide refills for my lemonade. I can't imagine how good the Margaritas must be at this restaurant / bar. I highly recommend this contemporary restaurant / bar for a place to go alone, to relax, or with family and friends to enjoy some quality time together in a clean and tastefully decorated Mexican restaurant located in a chick location.

BUT....signs are REALLY PROMISING FOR AN UPGRADE TO 5 STARS if the 2 times I've been here - once in July and then a few weeks ago before the start of classes - are any indication. This was a total stumbled-on find for us and Yelp once again assisted us in picking this little gem. We were looking for a dinner spot, in the mood for anything, just wanted to find someplace with good reviews, went searching on Yelp and came across Centro. Prices were just right and street tacos sounded amazing and a healthier choice - but not too healthy lol - than a greasy burger joint, fast food or an overpriced sit down. Finding the place, at night, was tricky believe it or not. There were noooo pics in Yelp of the shopfront (there are now, check 'em out) and we went up and down the block where google maps indicated it was. Folks - it's a 2nd floor place with 2 small front entrances - the main one right on N Main - a tiny door with a big illustrated skull on the black awning (hard to see in the dark) - sandwiched in between Poor Billy's (on the corner of N Main and Jackson) and Boudreaux's. The other entrance to Centro is on Jackson, just around the corner. Just outside the Jackson entrance, you'll see the makeshift outside dining area for Centro - like 5 or 6 table/chair sets roped off as the street is still a through street for traffic. Clever outside dining area actually - tables are sufficiently distanced, servers wore masks, tables are cleaned diligently and only QR code online menus! Oh and on warm, sunny days, there is large-tree-shade providing nice relief. Way to go! Okay - now for THE FOOD! Sooooooo gooooood! Caveat: we've only ever had the a la carte street tacos and the side order of chips and salsa and guac. That's all. But that's been plenty for us and sufficiently filling and satisfying. The menu isn't extensive and they're not Taco Bell (thank goodness!) or On the Border - but Centro doesn't need to be. I figure their limited menu allows them to focus on QUALITY and what they do best. And it shows - YUM. Value: Absolutely excellent value! Way to go Centro for making your fare way-affordable for students! Totally worth the cost. Quality and fresh ingredients and generous portions on each taco. Lime wedges are a nice touch. The tray of chips is overflowing and enough to group-share. The guac is house made (you can tell) and the salsa is pico de gallo style. They have other hot, medium and mild sauces they'll bring you upon request. Service: Amazing! :) Both times, our servers were on-it, polite and responsive. Our wait for food was minimal (though truthfully, both times we went during non rush). Centro ROCKS. Give them your business and tip your server generously - they're worth it and worth keeping them going! Hoping for huge success for Centro as the new school year begins and as small local businesses like Centro are coming out of the Covid shutdown.
