This Aldi has been one of my go-to grocery spots for years, and it continues to deliver a consistently solid experience. Alright, I'm finally starting to come around and see what all the ALDI fuss is about. This store is light years better since the total renovation done a few years back. The best thing about ALDI is some of their unique items you can't find anywhere else, like their delicious dips, huge selection of different cheeses, vegan products, etc. of course, that only works if your favorite items are in stock which is always hit or miss with any ALDI. Surprisingly, I don't find myself saving money at ALDI over just ordering groceries online, but it is quick and convenient to stop in and grab some of those ALDI-only items I've done to love. VEGAN and GLUTEN FREE review: I love discount stores, especially discount food stores. Back in California, Grocery Outlet was my JAM. I've heard so much hype about Aldi, and decided today was the day I would finally check it out. Unfortunately, I was not impressed in the least. The bottom line is that there just weren't many exciting finds. There were the typical $2/bag chips, $2-$5 boxes of granola bars, $0.88 canned goods, etc, but nothing that stood out to me as a "great deal". The prices of various nuts and dried fruit were more expensive or comparable to those at Your Dekalb Farmer's Market (YDFM), as was the produce, teas/coffees, etc. Other items, like off-brand flavored sparkling water, almond milk, and frozen veggies are similar in pricing to Kroger. The only good deal I saw was the bananas which were $0.44/lb! That's a pretty good deal, but it's just not worth the drive out there. There were some sauces there were priced cheaply, but most of the sauces weren't V/GF. I did notice that they carry a ton of gluten free packaged/processed food items, but not all were vegan. If you're just GF and enjoy eating those kinds of foods, then this may be the place for you! Overall, selection was "meh" (especially the produce) and pricing was just fine. Also, the store layout was terrible. My recommendation is to skip Aldi if you have to make a trip out there (just go to YDFM). read more

Give it a chance for it does take a visit or two to get used to. First off, bring a quarter for the cart! and bags to pack your groceries in. The stores are smaller than the mega grocery stores with fewer choices but that isn't a bad thing. I would much rather only have 20 breakfast cereals to pick from than 200. They carry different brands than I was used to but it is a German based company so I just went with it. So far everything I have tried I have liked. If there is something you do try that you do not like then they will refund your money. The meat, fruits, and vegetables are all very good. Price-wise, you can't beat it! Today a dozen eggs were 99 cents, gallon of whole milk $1.95, 40 oz of creamy peanut butter $2.99 and they have the freshest Salmon ($7.53 for 1 lb) that I have tasted outside of Seattle, WA. Cashiers are blinding fast checking you out and very friendly. Plus the other customers are friendly too. Great place. Give it a try. read more

ALDI is a college kid's dream. Cheaper than Walmart, German-owned (German chocolate, anyone??), and still relatively small business. It's premise is that you must put a quarter into the machine outside to get a cart, and once you return it, you get that quarter back. Think Tom Hanks in "The Terminal". I don't like wielding that cart, so I just bring back a few of those canvas tote bags to fill up with my groceries. Definitely love this place. Let's see some of the best things I've gotten here: $5 Coconut Rum (though it's seasonal, and I haven't seen it since last Summer), $3 for a pack of 24 fruit snacks, $3-5 pizzas (in the sliding freezer near the check out line, where they have the frozen goods on sale), $7 (decent) Irish Cream Liquor, and so much more. I like to get a lot of my Protein Bars here, because they have a wide selection and it's dollars cheaper than Kroger, Walmart, or Target. Honestly they taste the same, and actually better than the Walmart brand of Protein Bars. I also got a Pumpkin Cake in the Fall from here that was absolutely amazing, so kudos for wherever they get their baked goods. Pretty clean store, but the lanes are close together so if there are a few rude people standing in the middle with a cart (it's Atlanta, this happens a lot), it might be hard to finagle your way around them. Otherwise, the store is pretty simply laid out. There is, occasionally, the issue of waiting in one line behind 10 people, with only one cash register that seems to go on a lot here. I've actually only seen two cash registers utilized during the Christmas holidays, and I've been to this store a lot. I don't mind, however, because generally everyone else in line only has between 12-20 things, and they're pretty quick with getting everyone through. Anyone that needs to watch their food budget that has not discovered Aldi is missing out. This chain has mastered the art of controlling costs, and passing on the savings to the customer. I would conservatively estimate the average shopper will save at least 20%, probably more, by doing the bulk of their food shopping at any Aldi. You do give up some things in order to get the savings. Need a bag?--that will cost you (bring your own!). You bag your own groceries. You need to return your cart to the cart rack. Limited selection compared to a full size grocery (one brand of ketchup). I don't mind the quirks, some might. One of the benefits of the limited selection and small store footprint: you can be in and out of Aldi, with all your shopping done, in twenty minutes. No walking 200 yards to get a gallon of milk, etc. The only thing I don't like at Aldi is the coffee. The other store brands are great, in fact I often prefer their store brands to any of the major brands. Impressive. The location on Memorial is run pretty well. Most of the cashiers are well above average, although occasionally you will get one that is not up the normal Aldi standard (they don't last long). There is usually a security guard in the store. I've been to this Aldi several times. Most times everything was fine but once I walked out and left my groceries right there at the cashier station because there was no cashier. She had walked away and took forever to come back...actually I left before she came back. Today I went to this store again and once again there was no cashier. I waited for a few minutes and then I see her slowly walking back while at least three of us were standing there waiting. I will not be back to this store. If I have to wait for someone to take my money, I don't need to shop there. This is the only Aldi I have this problem with. The other Aldi's actually have cashiers "waiting" for me to check out. read more

This review is based on my visit yesterday. I have been to this Memorial Drive location for the last couple years and it has been OK. I've overlooked the disorganization because the customer service has been good. But they have hired new employees since the remodel. The cashier (Terrell) and other guy working there yesterday are terrible at customer service! I was waiting in one of the 2 cashier lines that they had open when the other cashier decides to close his register and proceeds to take all the items the customer in his line had placed on his conveyor belt and place her items on the conveyor belt in the line I am in. Right in front of me as I am about to be rung up! No explanation! Then when its finally my turn (again), I ask Terrell to get an item for me that I wasn't able to reach. I would have asked someone on the floor, but there were no employees working the floor. Terrell moves all my items off the conveyor belt and instead rings up the items of the person behind me. Again! I wait until he rings up the customer that was behind me, but still no one brings the item that I had asked for them to get for me. No apologies for the wait or inconvenience. I eventually just left the store without the item that I had asked them to get. I do not plan to go back to this Memorial Dr location again and will instead go to the N. Decatur location where the cashiers are nice and the selection is larger. read more
