For those who know what Aldi is all about, this one is brand new to this town. It's clean, well stocked and have helpful cashiers. *******They offer really cheap groceries. Here's why and you can take it from optimistic or pessimistic approach******* -----low staffing Good for lower prices Bad when you need assistance ----quarter to use a shopping, if you put the cart back, you get your quarter back Good for keeping the parking lot clear thus keeping cars free of cart dings Bad for lazy people ----bag your own groceries Good for making lines go by quicker Bad now that you have to spend time bagging yourself ----pay for your own bags Good for preventing environmental waste Bad if you forgot your reusable bags, and now I have no more litter box and dog poop bags read more

The Lake Jackson Texas Aldi is the CHEAPEST grocery store in town. And by cheap I do not mean cheap prices, though they do have some cheap prices on limited items. I mean that dealing with their quirks is like going to eat with you cheap friend that always forgot her credit card. They start by chargung you a quarter to get a shopping cart to use, and you only get that quarter back if you return the cart AND figure out how to work the locking mechanism that releases your trapped quarter. There are no instructions to the lock. Then you enter the store and see posted ads for the weekly specials, but these are ads for items that will only be available in the store the FOLLOWING week, and then in VERY limited quantities. So when you come back next Wednesday for those .69 cent chicken thighs, they tell you that both packets they had were sold earlier that morning. You end up feeling like you need to wait in Black Friday lines just to get inexpensive chicken thighs. Wow, REALLY??? So you ask to complain to a manager and there is never one there, and no phone number to call. The manager apparently works Monday-Friday from 6 to 3 pm. So you buy a gallon of milk and bread and go to the checkout line, where they inform you that since you did not bring your own bags, they will CHARGE YOU FOR FREAKING SHOPPING BAGS! You tell them that you will use that quarter that is trapped in your shopping cart to buy bags if you can ever get it out. Alas, their customer-unfriendly cashier tells you that they would really like to make everything right, but their manager, when in the store, criticizes them for over-serving customers, since they are not being efficient with their time. Honestly, Aldi reminds me of a German version of Walmart, only with poorer customer service. THIS STORE BLOWS! read more

Make sure you have a quarter if you want a basket. Be prepared to pay $.07 for each bag. The store will not bag your groceries even though you rent a basket and pay for your own bags!! This is a watered down version of a grocery store!! What ever little bit of money you save , you will spend driving to a real store once you figure out Aldi doesn't carry what you are actually looking for.... The quirky concepts are actually annoying. My daughter was visiting and told me about Aldi. I was surprised at the cost. Fresh spinach 0.89 cents a bag. Can't beat it. I have started making aldi my first store then follow up at HEB when I can't get the needed items at Aldi. This is just like a European store as far as paying for grocery bags etc. Youcan take your cart outside with no bags put your groceries in your car and return the cart for your quarter back. And not need to pay for bags. read more
