I checked into 3 different memorial sites but when I heard Shawn's Yankee accent I thought I could trust him. Silly maybe but he proved well worth my trust. Within a short period of time ( about 12 weeks ) my husband passed on and was buried and monument was in place. Being so far from away from my husband made it imperative to has his stone in place. At the time, I called around to at least 4-6 different places in the Albany area to understand the cremation options available, at a very stressful time obviously. Roy was BY FAR the most compassionate, patient, responsive, and clear about what to expect. Seriously, you just don't want to deal with the impersonal or callous attitudes that came across in my first phone call with some of the other places that offer cremation services. There wasn't even the smallest hint of anything other than the ideal level of genuine helpfulness from Roy. On top of that the prices were extremely fair, and the environment and decor in the Simple Choices funeral home is very comforting. Looking back, it also feels good to have supported a business & team that is committed to doing the right thing for people at their worst times. They live out ALL the values stated on their website. Terrible business…read more They had my son's body because the New Hampshire coroner placed him there, after my son's unexpected death. We would have had Rickers cremate the body, but they were asking in excess of $3000 to take care of the body. They refused to compromise or talk with us. We tried to meet with the director and he blew us off. It felt insulting. My son's body sat in Rickers refrigerator until we arranged for a different funeral home to perform the cremation. The other funeral home charged a little over $1000. I have never gotten over this bad experience with Rickers. It breaks my heart to think of this.
