The staff and volunteers were incredibly welcoming and did a great job hosting. The grounds are beautiful, peaceful, and such a great reminder of what a special outdoor space this is for the community. Large rectangular park includes a basketball court (which sometimes hosts bicycle hockey), a playground, a baseball filed, a small forest and a few sprinkled benches. I use the park to play fetch with our pup. We stay towards the back part of the park and frequently encounter other friendly pups and their owners. While not an official dog park a neighbor has set up a watering station and the city has posted a poo bag station.

It runs next to the old Cecil Field military base. I was told back in the day this property used to be a private hunting camp back in the 50's through the 70's. We've walked pretty much each trail on the property and love each one. We usually take our time and spend around 2 or so hours hiking. Today we just kept it short due to my foot was still hurting from when I hurt it a few months ago. I definitely recommend this hiking trail! Added note; make sure you use the restroom first before get here because there are no facilities here (unless you like going next to trees lol).

They have fit a lot into the space, and the large dog area allows quite a bit of open space. Unfortunately it was unmaintained and the overgrown grass is a haven for ticks, ants, and God knows what else. We saw teams playing baseball, a group of kids playing basketball, kids and their dad doing tennis drills, and kids at the splash pad and playground. The dog park areas were empty and we explored, but not for long because it was unwelcoming with the uncut grass. The parking lot was filled with litter and there was a bit of an unsafe feeling all around. Though people were there for recreation, all the parents were on edge, and just wary. I'm not from Jax so idk the safety of this area, just googled a free splash pad for my kid. It did the job, and was safe enough, but it wasn't a place we felt comfortable to stay for long.

My daughter was quite bewildered that little Riley will climb and go down the small slide all by himself! Very proud of himself, he exclaims "COOL!" when he gets down at the bottom of the slide. He also loves the musical play items and LOVES the seesaw! Especially when I jump on with him. Last time the kids visited, we took them with us and the whole family enjoyed watching Riley run around like he owned the park!

They have a small parking lot or some people park in the residential area right outside of it. I would suggest bringing bug spray though because I had a ton of mosquito bites after. Some of the trail is sand or mud, but it was easy to walk through. The trail isn't overly maintained, but there are branches, roots, and debris along the way. Parking is cramped, so make sure you come early. The bugs were bad so make sure you apply bug spray.

I feel perfectly safe walking around, it's always clean, lawn manicured, quiet, & landscaped beautifully. The gorgeous old tree in the back by the open field is the true show stopper. The loop around the park is fairly short, but very pretty. If I had to take a guess on the length, I'd say it's half a mile long or a little less. It's the perfect length for dog walking on these hot summer days.

Alexandria Oaks Park is perfect for a large group playing frisbee, the loner with a good book, or a play park for the pups. Tips -- parking on North and South end, doggie bags available, massive greenway, basic walk path, rec leagues play here occasionally. When I first moved to San Marco, my kickball league used to play here on Sundays. The greenway that expands from the South to North end of the park is big enough for a music festival. Even if noise or crowds aren't your thing, there's plenty of room on the greenway for you to get some peace and quiet on your blanket. Hey, have I mentioned I have a new dog? Yeah, yeah. Well, we took her here for a play date yesterday and it was great. She had enough room to roam around, meet other dogs, and play until she was short of breath. I expect more frequent visits to Alexandria Oaks Park in the future.
