History

Established in 2009.

As a part-time job, Tom Whalen created Alert the Media in September of 2009. He was working at a small marketing company in South Jersey when he decided to start his own business. The company began by filming weddings, events, sports and much more, but Tom's love was sports. Having 5 teams, in 2010, he quit his full-time job to pursue Alert the Media full-time. Now, the company films just sporting events, Filming over 100 teams in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Colorado.

Meet the Business Owner: Tom W.

Tom Whalen was sitting at his full-time job, not enjoying anything he was doing. He watched as his boss struggled to find work and communicate with his clients. He started to learn from his bosses mistakes, and decided he wanted to be his own boss. Tom's father is also a big inspiration because he ran a small baseball card shop in South Jersey for 8 years. Tom used to go to his father's shop when he was a small child and helped him with everything he possibly could.

I was referred to BA Jones by Ed Newman, CPA because he was drowning in PPP payroll things from his…read moreclients so without giving it a second thought I called BA. At first she was surprised by my number because I have a CA area code but as soon as I explained my situation, she warmed up. Before calling her I had booked some time for me to come into her office and meet her (which I gave her the heads up about during my call). I explained that I had been audited by the IRS on my 2018 tax return and she was fantastic at walking me though what I needed to do, first and foremost, requesting an extension (which the IRS immediately honored). Fast forward to today, I just left her office with my husband and I am SO excited to work with her on all my tax/business needs for the future. If you ever have the pleasure of sitting down and have a conversation with her, you will immediately get the sense of how intelligent, wise and on top of things she is - definitely want someone like this advocating for you and your business. She didn't charge us for our meeting today because she said that we were getting to know each other but honestly, I would have paid just to have heard her impart the wisdom that she did. We left with a game plan and are planning on connecting again in a couple weeks once I gather all the documents I need to send over to the auditor. To wrap up, I can see how the last reviewer thought she may have come across as rude BUT she really isn't...AT ALL...I would say she's very no nonsense and to the point and if you let her know up front that you're looking for a CPA and someone to work with in the long run, the conversation will go very well and you'll get way more than you expected. Also she's most definitely the type of person that you should take the time to get to know IN PERSON vs over the phone or via video call...at least for the very first meeting.
