The Boss and I spent the day walking Rome and taking in the sights and by the time we were ready to dine, we were done with the heat, the noise and the hustle of the city. We wanted a quiet dinner and Alessio Ristorante delivered. We were drawn in by the sunken dining area, as though transported to a cool, quiet yet cozy dining room away from the city. We were seated and brought bread and water and given space to decide on drinks. When communicating our drink choices, we were informed of the evening dinner special and decided to take them up on the offer. We started our meal with a ricotta and basil ravioli with a rich, fresh tomato sauce and followed it with the catch of the day, a beautiful sea bass. As we sipped our drinks, The Boss a Bellini, me a Hugo Spritz, we were presented with the whole baked sea bass to view and approve. It was then whisked away and plated with sliced, braised potatoes and cherry tomatoes with rosemary and onion. By far, the bass was the freshest most flavorful, moist fish I have ever consumed. As though it brought the Mediterranean Sea with it to the table. When finished, we enjoyed a limoncello apéritif, and left happy, full and feeling as though we had really experienced an authentic Italian meal. Grazie mille, Alessio. Eccellente.

As many yelpers rated them at 4 stars really hit the mark even though easily a 5 star rating! Service was adequate but could tell a sense of urgency on the wait staff to turn table over quickly...but food was excellent! My pasta was excellent here. And while the calamari & shrimp dish was acceptable, i've had better in Torino last year so expectation was high. Nice outdoor seating at 7pm and there were other similar restaurants all packed just after 7p. Surprised that my Alfredo had ragu styled meat on top vs chicken but actually made it flavorful! I drank practically whole bottle of Panna aqua because of the heat all day at 96 degrees! Hubby had a Tuscan wine and an old fashioned cocktail which helped refreshed him! Overall a great option in between our hotel and Termini area!
We went to Alessio after looking for a good restaurant within walking distance of our hotel. We called for a reservation for outdoor seating, and when we got there, they accommodated us at a table for 7 outside. Since for a few of us, it was our last night in Italy, we were looking for a few traditional meals and Alessio delivered! We enjoyed their Insalata Mista, Fritto Mista, Carbonara, Fettuccini Ragu (AMAZING!), Risotto Scampi, Lasagna, and Cacio e Pepe. Everything was EXCELLENT and we sent my daughter and her new husband there the next week after their honeymoon in Sardinia. A truly wonderful experience!
My daughter found Alessio for our final dinner in Italy. We had a memorable meal there! The staff was helpful. The restaurant was bright and comfortable. I had a very nice seafood salad with oranges and olives. Truly vibrant flavors. I shared some of the cheese platter that we had for the table, also quite good. I really enjoyed their cacio e pepe, not overly peppery but certainly well crafted.

I came in with two friends for an early dinner. We sat inside. The dining area is cozy and there is also outdoor seating. Our servers were very attentive and our food came out quickly. I had the rigatoni carbonara and it was delicious. I would definitely come back.
This is an authentic Italian meal. Our waiter's English was not the best. The salad was a good size. In Italy, it appears that healthy food is a must. Ordering a Caesar salad will get you a salad with a choice of olive oil or vinegar for dressings. No American Caesar salad dressing here. Healthy! I wanted the ravioli special without the artichokes, but I couldn't convey that to my waiter, so I keep the artichokes. I should never have removed them. My chicken with tomato sauce was not boneless chicken. It tasted good, but I had to remove some bones. My wife had the lamb with potatoes. The potatoes were great. The lamb was a little tough. It was a bigger portion than what I had yesterday. I think my wife may have asked it to be cooked a little more well (which would make it tough). The bathrooms were individual coed. One bathroom door to 4 individual toilets with their own sink. The service was fine. The place looked of hardwood and shine.
AWARENESS: Walking around the Monti area near our hotel in Rome, the wife and I happened upon this gem of a restaurant. NARRATIVE: Hosting both outdoor and indoor seating (indoor seating has air), this place will not disappoint. Because the weather outside was a balmy 104 degrees. The wife and I decided to dine indoors. Once seated, out sever handed us menus and explained the specials for the day. Starting with both sparkling and plain waters, we also asked for a liter of their red house wine (wine was only 12 euros). We also decided on our meals. I headed straight for the primi piatti (first course) and secndi piatti (main course) meals, deciding to skip the antipasti, contorni (sides) and dolci (desserts). My first course (pasta) was the Fettuccine Ragu with mushrooms and I went with the Veal Saltimbocca for my main course. Absolutely amazing stuff! SCENE: Located on the corners of Via Del Viminale and Via Principe Amedeo in the Monti area of Rome, Alessio Ristorante is a must stop to eat place if your near either the Colosseum or the Roma Termini train station. Both places are within walking distance from Alessio's. RECOMMENDATION(S): My only comment is: When in Rome....

Simply delicious! Great price point too! I read the reviews and decided this is where we would get dinner. Started with the bruschetta trio and it was delectable! I got the Rigatoni Carbonara and my brother got some sort of pasta with meat sauce, it was the Special. We had the fried calamari and shrimp too! When the meal was complete, they brought us a shot of Lemoncello. It was very strong! Highly recommend!
We came here to eat based on high Yelp reviews but were disappointed in its authenticity after eating here. Seating/location: indoors and outdoors, but we sat outside. Before even realizing this was a restaurant, the waiters already are asking you if you want a table for two. Of course we were looking for this restaurant based on our research, but seeing how over eager they were to seat you led us to believe this was a tourist trap. It's also very close to the local train station, so if you're sitting outside, be prepared to witness a bunch of people walking by with their suitcases. Staff: friendly. The ones that dealt with us kept their distance, and respected our space. There was one waiter serving the table next to us that was quite over friendly and obnoxious. After taking their orders, the one waiter challenged them to get a different drink/meal he recommended which they obliged to but then once the meal came out they were confused with the dish they received. It was awkward to witness. Separately and not an issue, but I did notice that all but one waiter appeared to be of Italian descent, which has me wondering about the restaurant's authenticity in terms of the quality of the food. Service was quick though and we were seated quickly with no reservation. Food: - bruschetta al pomodoro: bread was not very toasty and the there were no greens. We've had better at other Italian restaurants outside of Italy. - prosciutto e melone: the meat was good. The melons were slices and not balls/chunks which I found interesting since you had to cut with a fork and knife instead of doing one bite (not sure which one is the more authentic style). The melons were strangely very orange almost to the point of being food colored. - rigatoni alla carbonara: my BF got this and thought it was okay. We had other carbonara during the trip and he wouldn't necessarily come back to alessio and get this. If you want good carbonara, go somewhere else! - tonnarelli ai frutti di mare: I wasn't really impressed with the starters so was nervous about my entree. I was pleasantly surprised. I've never had this type/cut of pasta before, but I learned it's one of my favorites now! It's like a udon styled pasta. The sauce was phenomenal and light with some great seafood options mixed in. It was the perfect portion and I would go back to this place solely for this dish! Overall, we give this place a 3. There were some good dishes, but really inconsistent. We've had better options at other places. If you need to eat and don't have a reservation, come here. It'll do the trick, but won't be your best meal while in Rome.

Honestly, Alessio was ok but of all the restaurants we visited in Italy (including 5 days in Rome), this was the worst. It is directly next to some of the larger hotels and is definitely a tourist trap. It is extremely convenient, but the menu is lacking and the food was bland. It was not bad but was not nearly as good as the many restaurants located even 2 blocks further from the hotels/train station. It was also more expensive than the more local places. I would recommend you do the extra distance and walk 2 more minutes for a better meal. The servers were friendly but quite pushy for you to order more, order drinks, and leave a tip. This solidified in our minds that this is a pure tourist trap restaurant. Again, nothing bad food wise but there are a lot better, tastier, cheaper options directly nearby with a larger and more local specific menu/selection. read more

Ambience was charming and the place was crowded so we assumed it would be excellent but we were somewhat disappointed. Our wine and bruschetta came out quickly and we enjoyed them. Then Bread came out too but we never ordered it, as we had Bruschetta. Assumed it was complimentary, but we didn't eat it anyway. Saltimbocca was Good, but not great. Fried artichoke was ok. Oily, no salt, not much flavor, but I ate it all. Complimentary dessert wine at the end was not limoncello or port like at other venues. We didn't like it at all. When the bill came he charged for the panne which we never ordered, or ate, thank goodness bc he asked if we ate it, and when we had the bill fixed he didn't even look at us or say Grazie when we paid and left. Yes he was super busy manning the patio, but the bad attitude was palpable. The bus boys were kind and pleasant but not the older waiter. Maybe get him some more help. read more

Great first meal in Rome, scampi risotto & spaghetti with lobster both had very nicely developed flavors, the chicken with peppers & olives was cooked perfectly. Not a big fan of cannolis but these rum pistachios ones are pretty tasty. Best of all, the waiter was sooooo wonderful! Thank you for such a warm welcome to the capital! read more
Quaint outdoor restaurant with Great Service and Tasty Food that is only 2 minutes walk from the Termini train station! Food: ++++ A comprehensive menu with pasta, meat and fish options. We were definitely eyeing the mussels and clams sauté dish and the risotto, but the waiter brought out a Huge Steak with the bone-in, sizzling on the pan for the table next to us. The smell and sounds got me right away! The steak was delicious, and definitely filling. It also came with artichoke and potatoes chips, and veggies. Service: +++++ Our main waiter was Super Nice to us and his other guests. He was very helpful with explaining the dishes and he served with a smile and was very quick. The other waiters who helped out were also great as well, and helped us out even though we weren't their main table. They also provided some homemade Limoncello shots complimentary to our Location: ++++ You'll find the restaurant down a narrow walk way and down several steps. The seating is all outdoors, but underneath an enclosure with heating. I don't believe they had any indoor seating. Price: €€ Paid 45 euros for a steak meal for 2 people with bread, water and the cover charge. Not too bad! read more
They have something for everyone. The service is good. If you're American keep in mind that people take their time during dinners and enjoy the company and food so the service is not slow, but expected so you can have the full experience. The Jewish artichoke was good. Never tried it and didn't know how to eat it at first but we figured it out. Deep fried goodness. Pizza is thin crust and crispy and just enough topping to satisfy. Gnocchi was ok. It had taste but I wouldn't rave about it. If you get a bottle of beer, it's 75ml so share or you'll be drinking for a while! We were asked to tip the first day. Came back again second day for another dinner. Started with stuffed squash flowers that were deep fried with a light airy batter (savory donut, dare I say?) Had the lasagna which was decent. The ribeye was excellent and the lamb special was also delicious. Moral of the story: get the specials! I love the prep for the sea bass where they filet it at your table. Word of caution: Don't mistake sea bass for the Chilean one that looks more like a steak in thickness and size. It's just normal sea bass but prepared very nicely. Bread is charged even though they bring it out to your table without asking so if you want to skip it and avoid the euro/ person let them know. All credit cards are accepted. They make an effort here and produce quality food at reasonable prices! read more
This place is amazing! Hands down our best meal Experience in Rome. The staff is super friendly and cares about customer service. The menu is reasonably priced. And the food is seriously outstanding. I'm so glad we found this place on yelp. I highly recommend the risotto alla crema di scampi. It tastes like lobster bisque with risotto. Best thing I've had in awhile. Also the tiramisu is one of the best I've had anywhere. Try it out! read more

This place was located extremely close to where we were staying in Rome, and we decided to give it a shot. It was around 9 PM or so, and the place was packed! I guess we got lucky to have been seated at a table without a prior reservation. Based on the pictures it seemed like the place has outdoor seating available, but it being rainy all day, the only option was indoors. We had a full course Italian meal here, starting with grilled vegetables as the appetizer, pasta with meat and seafood spaghetti as entrees, and tiramisu with desert wine to finish. I had no complaints about any of the items, they all tasted delicious to me. The quantity was average for the price though, but definitely filled me up. The tiramisu was fabulous, and was paired perfectly with the wine recommended. The service was a little slow, but that was understandable since the place was so crowded. I am so glad we came here, and would definitely revisit if I am in the area again! read more
Alessio was a very fortunate find and exceptional in quality of the cuisine and service. The outside dining area was completely occupied so we were directed to "the cowards garden" , a nice intimate setting down a relatively steep flight of stairs which I suppose was the reason for the name of the area. We had a trio of servers that responded to every request that we had. My wife has Celiac and Federico couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. He responded to every special request that we had and even gave us shots of Limoncello to complete our special meal. Great job Federico and Alessio For a very enjoyable evening. read more
Dining here on our last night in Rome based on raving Yelp reviews turned out to be largely a disappointment. Zuppa di Verdure (vegetable soup) with White Beans & a Crostini was excellent, but Fried Calamari was slightly undercooked, although presented with a good mild homemade Marinara Sauce. My Scalloppina di Vitella al Vino Bianco with Roasted Rosemary Potatoes was good but not great. And we were served by an overly cocky waiter who shrugged and acted exasperated when Diane noted that she was encountering bones in every bite of her Grilled Sea Bass. This place just ignored my emailed request for a reservation 2 weeks in advance, and never responded, so our hotel had to book us again. And the restaurant was not very accommodating at all. It would not serve butter for bread even when requested. It would not make requested Sliced Potatoes to go with our entrees, although they were standard fare with others. It refused to serve a side of requested Alfredo Sauce, and it does not serve Iced Tea, although requested ice was provided to go with our expensive bottled still water. I will look elsewhere for a finer ristorante the next time I am in Roma! read more

GREAT local Italian ristorante near Piazza Del Republicca and Roma Termini. We had 5 nights in Rome and ate here once for lunch and twice for dinner. Very reasonably priced with excellent food quality. In our many meals, we enjoyed the pizza, lasagne, fettuccine with fungi, and penne carbonara. Never had a bad meal. Very friendly staff with excellent English skills for those of us challenged to speak Italian. 100% a safe bet for tourists who want some authentic Italian food. read more

Service was great and the food started off good. The starter we had was great. I don't know the name but it was tempura fried veggies and chili sauce. This was definitely tasty. It made us anticipate our main dishes. The mains we're just blah. Don't get the lasagna or the honey/mustard chicken with veggies. The lasagna tasted like it was frozen and the chicken tasted not so fresh. The food was way overpriced for the quality but the ambiance and menu lured us in. I'm sure something on this menu is great, we just didn't happen to get it during our visit. read more

Federico was a great waiter! Funny and friendly, he helped make our first lunch and meal, back in Rome, very enjoyable. We each had a pasta dish: cacio e pepe for him and the pasta grecia - which is similar to the cacio e pepe made with cheese and also with guanciale (bacon). We also had a half liter of their house red wine and their Nutella pistachio tiramisu. It was yummy and a very enjoyable first meal with Federico! We would definitely come back! read more

I highly recommend Alessio restaurant when in Rome. It's location is a little inconspicuous so walk slow, pay attention to the signage and go down the stairway to enter the beautiful dining area. It really is a sight for sore eyes once you find it. Excellent service, amazing cuisine, quaint location. I started with the mussels & clam sauté which was amazing. The grilled sea bass (whole) minus the head was deliciously fresh and served without sides. It was flavorful and light but filling. I suggest making reservations ahead as tables fill up fast at this local hot spot. Although I do not speak Italian my server made no qualms about it and delivered top priority service. He was personable, prompt and professional; if only I could remember his name! Whenever I return to Rome, Alessio will be first on my list of things to do. ~Christy read more

Our very first meal in Rome and we fell in love. Walking distance from our hotel, we decided to give this place a try. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted and told we could sit wherever we wanted. Our server was kind, friendly, attentive and helpful. He taught us something new, like how fried calamari really isn't ordered as an appetizer here. It's served as a main dish or a dish for kids. He was sweet to offer this dish to us as an appetizer if we really wanted. I passed, when in Rome! I appreciate that they provided a complimentary bread basket, not every restaurant in Rome does this. We started with a Fried Zucchini Flower, perfectly battered and stuffed with cheesy goodness. For our main dishes we ordered the Lasagna and Frutti di Mare. After our first bite, we had to pinch ourselves. It was out of this world! They are generous with the portions, yet our dishes were light enough to finish. Every ingredient on the plate is fresh and cooked to perfection. The pasta is perfectly al dente. There is just enough sauce to coat the pasta and to dip your bread into the sauce on your plate. The sauce is light, clean, and not overly salty. Just the right amount of salt, so that the flavors of the other ingredients shine. I liked the wet nap that came with the Frutti di Mare, it was a nice way to freshen up. Ended the meal with their Strawberry Tiramisu. Excellent. Light, not too sweet, creamy, smooth, with a lovely fresh natural strawberry flavor. I believe it was the owner or manager who brought us over our check and he was so sweet to ensure we enjoyed our meal. We visited on a weekday at around 6:30 pm. There was plenty of seating available and the ambiance was quiet and laid back. As we were finishing our meal, I noticed that the restaurant started to get much busier. Restrooms (toilette) are in the back and clean. If you want to turn on the faucet you have to push the button on the floor with your foot :D A wonderful experience filled with good times, great service, and a meal that will stay in my memory for years to come. I came here a few days ago when I was in Rome. The restaurant was very close to my hotel and was highly recommended on Yelp so I decided to give them a try. Entrance is downstairs and they have many different dining rooms to sit in. All of the waiters speak English which is a huge perk. We decided to order fried calamari, a mushroom pizza, sea bass, and a meat dish. All the food came out perfectly cooked and without much wait. The pizza was PERFECT. The right amount of all the ingredients and the sauce was very tasty. The sea bass was cooked and seasoned wonderfully. The meat dish was huge! Overall a great experience as the food was fantastic and the service was great as well. No wifi but they accept credit cards which is a great perk :) read more
At the suggestion of our hotel concierge, we visited Alessio twice during our time in Rome. Luckily, it was located only a few blocks from our hotel because the food and overall experience was truly amazing. On our first visit we had bruschetta pomodoro. It was fresh and flavorful. We liked it so much that we tried it on our second visit. However bread is served standard with each meal so, the bruschetta isn't really nessecary. Other apps included fries, zuchinni flower and fried artichoke. For our entrees, my husband had the lasagna both visits. He raved about it being the among the best lasagna that he's had. If you are a lover of lasagna, this might be a top contender among your selections. During my first visit, I had the gnocchi with zuchinni and shrimp. It was divine. I'm not a huge fan of gnocchi, but this was a really outstanding. The shrimp is finely chopped alongside the zuchinni and mixed in with a creamy sauce. The portion size was large. On my second visit, we were offered a selection of specials. I opted to give one a try. I wish I would have gone with something on the menu instead. The special offered was fettuccine with mushrooms and a light olive oil sauce. It, too, was delicious however it wasn't as good as the gnocchi. For dessert we tried the traditional tiramisu. It was delicious. With each meal, they offer two Limoncellos. Nice touch and we learned that it is made in house. The service that we experienced at Alessio was outstanding- second to none. The servers all work very closely as a team. There is one specific server who appears to be the lead. He is multilingual and we witnessed the magic of him conversing with guests from around the world in various languages. It was wonderful and a huge hit with tourists. Full disclosure, this restaurant is frequented primarily by tourists. However, that does not detract from the overall experience, though it may impact the price. If you are considering Alessio as an option, it is worth the visit especially if you are in the neighborhood. Rome! read more
My husband and I came to this restaurant for dinner around 7:30pm on a Saturday. Luckily we didn't have to wait for a table! From the reviews that we read, people had warned that they had a long wait and a reservation would be best. The waiters and bus boys were very nice and spoke English well. We ordered the Charcuterie (meat and cheese plate), Minestrone soup, and fried zucchini (courgette flowers) as appetizers. For our pasta dishes, we ordered the bucatini with bacon & tomato sauce and the handmade pasta with claims. I was so full from all the appetizers that I wasn't able to eat too much of my bucatini, which I was kind of bummed about because I knew I couldn't pack the leftovers to go. There were just a few things that I was not impressed with-- 1) Two pretty girls had come in after us. First, the waiters and the hostess couldn't stop staring at them. We were seated first, but once we were seated, we had been forgotten. But the two girls seemed to be attended to quite fervently. We had to waive to the waiter to let them know we were never given menus. 2) they charged us for bread that we did not eat at the table. It would have been nice if they asked us if we wanted a bread basket or not, and not just place it on our table. I'm not sure if this is a custom in Italy to automatically charge for the bread basket, but I don't think it's right. read more

I was traveling solo and wanted to stay close to my hotel for dinner. Alessio popped up under "nearby restaurants" several times, so I finally walked over to check it out. You go down steps to enter the restaurant, and you pop out at the host stand. It was early for dinner (6 p.m.), so I figured I may have a chance to get seated. Upon arrival, the host asked if I had a reservation. I said no, and he brought me to a table. There were several available two-tops, but he placed me directly next to an English-speaking couple. Safe to say I felt like the third wheel on their date. We didn't talk until the very end of the meal (when we discussed the fact that the staff was probably talking about us!), so it was pretty awkward all around. Servers seemed a bit annoyed by my existence as a solo diner in their white-tablecloth restaurant. I heard them share information about specials with another table, and they even gave complimentary limoncello to other guests. I didn't receive either courtesy. They eventually brought me bread, but I knew I wouldn't eat a whole basket by myself, so I said I wasn't interested. For my meal, I ordered the pasta with tomato sauce and bacon. I had the same style years ago on a visit to the country, so I was super excited to try it again. Unfortunately, this dish just fell short. It didn't have any bold flavors or seasoning and you could hardly taste the bacon. I ate as much as I could. I coupled my dish with a white wine, and it was a nice pour. Alessio is a beautiful space, and I'm sure if I arrived with friends it would've been a different experience entirely. Our favorite dinner in Rome. I found this place on yelp and it was right around the corner from our hotel. The staff was so friendly right when we walked in and happily brought us to a table. The waiters were very friendly and told us about the specials right away. We started with the buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto appetizer. The mozzarella was so fresh it melted in my mouth. My husband got the ragu pasta and it was so flavorful with the meat and tomato sauce. I was debating between the ravioli and the alessio pasta. Our waiter said you can get ravioli everywhere but you can only get the chefs dish here. I was sold and so glad I listened to him. The alessio was a clam pasta with a white whine sauce that was so light and delicious. We were dying to have tiramisu so we unbuttoned our fat pants and got dessert. No regrets because this was the best I've ever had. It wasn't too coffee flavored and perfectly light filling. So so good. They served limoncello with our check with was the cutest touch. Loved the food, service and ambiance at this place!! read more
What a great find! Thanks Yelp! Little restaurant in garden level underground. Never would have found this gem otherwise. Service, food, everything is amazing! And it's surprisingly inexpensive. €10-12 per person for entrees. Haven't had better food in all of Rome than this!! read more

Ravioli with spinach and ricotta was very fresh. Penne Arrabiata loved the sauce, it was a bit spicy with red flakes, but perfectly spiced! Bruschetta with tomato was okay, they burnt our toast it was hard to eat it. And had burnt flavor. Complimentary Bread was okay, so we asked for olive oil and balsamic and it was much better! Crime brûlée- vanilla flavor!- was pretty good , it tastes like French vanilla ice cream! Good customer service , small place, hot in the back and finally in the end of our visit they turned on the fan and it was much cooler. They also gave us free shots of lemoncello which was nice of them. (late post - from July 2015) read more
