We were moving back to New England, and needed to eat food I found this local gem on Yelp tucked away from the interstate. Great family run comfort food restaurant. The staff are cheerful, and make you feel like you are part of the community. We had a couple of bottled beers, and chicken fingers, and a chicken sandwich. Did I mention fried chicken is a specialty here. I think the fingers came with a side, and we had a nice salad. I think I remember the daily special being tacos. Not sure how vegetarian friendly the place is, but you are in the middle of America. I think they may have some seafood, but you may want to call, and check first. They have outdoor patio seating, and tents. It also seemed they do as much take away as they do dine in. The locals eat here. They also take credit cards. This place has the best fried chicken in the area (and yes, better than Rips IMO). Their entire menu is very good. The main problem I have is with carry out orders. If you call on a Saturday to place a carry out order, they are busy enough that they literally take the phone off of the hook. We have tried for 30 minutes straight on multiple occasions to get through. When we just go there to place our order, they proudly admit that they take the phone off the hook. Ridiculous way to run a business! If you want it that bad, be prepared to go in, place your order, and either stick around for 45 minutes or go cruising and pick it up later. read more

Guess you need to be a regular. 2nd time here. Food was good. Prices reasonable. Service poor. We had reservations as I know how busy they get. The place was very busy. We checked in. Bartender said bout 10 minutes. Sat at the bar got a drink. We finally get seated. They had to clean off a table. A table by the popcorn machine and the garbage can. Popcorn machine, high traffic area for people waiting to be served to grap some popcorn. Garbage can by dining table YUCK. Really don't care if it is just used for popcorn or not used a lot. Again YUCK. Sat at the table for 10 minutes no menus or silverware. Young lady comes over to get our order. How about some menus. Place the order. Wanted water. Hubs suggested I go to the bar myself. Good call. The bartender did bring me the water after I ordered it. Got the food. It was good. My point in all of this. If you are not a regular the service is less than stellar. Great food but the table by the popcorn machine sucks! Ate here for the first time Saturday evening. We were sat at the table next to the popcorn machine and the people behind us weren't moving so the 2 of us could sit across from one another, so we were forced to sit next to each other. No big deal, but if we'd had more in our party, there would have been no way anyone could sit across from us unless they were paper thin. That table should really be removed! We both opted for chicken strips and fries. The chicken strips were plump and juicy and the fries were nice and crispy. My coleslaw was very bland and required salt and pepper to give it some flavor. We also had an order of corn fritters. They were tasty and smothered in powered sugar. but I've had much better. There is plenty of parking in the big lot. Lunchtime can get busy but the food was prepared very quickly. The place is divided in two. The front area has a dining room. The rear has a bar and tables as well. The servers are nice and attentive. The menu had a good selection of items but based on other Yelp reviews, we tried the fried chicken. Just moved back to my hometown area, which is Tiskilwa, IL. The Park Tavern has gotten better with age. My family and I consider Park Tavern chicken to be the "Rips of Princeton". Everything we have ordered has been very good. Keep in mind if you are planning on an evening meal that you better have a reservation. Yes, this place gets that busy, plus the dining area is small but it is not as noisy as the bar seating area. You will not be disappointed eating here, and you will want to come back. I visited this place in the summer, it was very hot and humid that day. Inside it wasn't much better, it was very warm. Three out of the four of us spent the entire meal sweating. At one point an employee walked over and turned OFF the window air conditioner because it was blowing on someone and they didn't like that. Well obviously they needed to be moved because it was way too hot to just shut it off! The service was pretty good, the prices for the food were ok, the food itself not so much. All of our appetizers were absolutely soaked in grease from them not frying them in hot enough oil and not draining off the grease properly. I ordered a pork tenderloin sandwich that was so thick I felt like I was eating a pork chop sandwich. I was not impressed. Everyone else's entrees were ok but greasy. From the beginning when I walked thru the door and was greeted, and seated till I left, it was GREAT! I had the fried chicken that included a side of spaghetti and also scalloped potatoes. All homemade and great! My server was Gail and she was one of the best. The only thing wrong, It's 105 miles from home!!! This restaurant is just what we need in our area. Great place to eat. We figured it must have been pretty good when we pulled in. The parking lot was full and we could barely get in the door of a he place. It was 6:30 on a Saturday nite so..... There were 3 of us- 3 sodas, cheeseburger w fries, grilled cheese w mashed potatoes and gravy, and a special of country fried chicken that came w mashed potatoes and green beans. Excellent food. They have a German food - Octoberfest special on Thursdays in October. Very good and the price is right! They did not have any draft beer but I tried a heiney dark in bottles and it was very delicious. I'm told they have very good hamburgers - the best in town. read more
