I love the great fades I can get at a barbershop with a straight razor shave, although, barber shops lack the opportunity to offer a shampoo and rinse afterwards. I'm not complaining about the salon itself just the service I received from one of the nail techs. She was pleasant and friendly and sweet but I was not satisfied with the work done. The gel manicure I got was 3 or 4 coats which made it so thick that it peeled in a day. The way the color was brushed on both Mani and Pedi made it look like they were weeks old as part of my nail beds were visible. read more

I have entrusted her with the life of my hair and its color in her hands about 8 years now. I've had short styles before, which grows out well. Styles I've had range from: - tri-color streaks: red, blonde, black, - blackish hair with red streaks, - red with black streaks - red with blonde streaks - back to super dark brown over red hair (which turned into black to red ombre) - just blonde streaks - ombre with red to blonde - various versions of full red colors (no bleaching before the reds, ever) I don't dye my hair often. Although I will go for 4-6 months or so without refreshing the color, I would get compliments year-round for how my hair color looks... from fresh to faded... someone loves my hair! Why? Oscar did my boyfriends haircut and did such a wonderful job. He took his time and made sure everything was going well. He constantly checks up if everything's okay. He gave my boyfriend a 80s styled haircut and made it look extremely authentic and after the cut he did a play by play on how to style the cut properly and recommended many products from inexpensive to higher end. Big Bummer.... In February I booked an appointment with Nona for May 25th, 3 months in advance. Upon my arrival to check in for the appointment the receptionist kind of gives me a worried smile. Whatever, didn't think much of it. To which someone else walked in also stating they were here for Nona. I went to reception to ask what's going on, come to hear Nona wasn't even at the salon today and somehow double booked but didn't let anyone know. I was asked to call Nona and figure out what's going on. I was told for some reason our appointment was not put in the books?? And that she would call the salon and ask if the people who she would recommends could squeeze us in. This stylist was highly recommended so I was still really bummed out that the person we drove 45 min from LA to an appointment that was booked in advance, to come find out we were never properly booked (basically double booked us(in a way) in all, severely disappointed, upset and discouraged. read more

This review is for Cindy Diep who has been my hair stylist for years. Cindy is amazing with color and style. I have that long, straight, asian hair that is diffcult to style and normally lays flat on my head. Once Cindy is done though, I have a new color, cut, and style that even makes my husband say "Wow" each time. I have recommended her to many of my friends and family and they too have all been very happy after sitting in Cindy's chair. Cindy has no problem with being honest and straightforward. She can recommend what styles or colors she things will best accentuate your features. This is so important to me because a lot of the time I dont even know what I want to do with my hair. I trust Cindy so much that I normally book an appointment, sit in her chair, and tell her to do what she wants. Another plus is that I do not have to search for a seperate hair stylist for my kids because they all adore Cindy and even ask me when we are going to see her again. Some hair stylist do not have the patience or skill to deal with young kids but Cindy makes all my kids (ages 3-12) feel comfortable and fun so they enjoy the experience. This was my first and only visit. I asked for a recommendation for stylist that was good with highlights. I was in the salon for 3 hours and left with my hair worse than when I came in. All I wanted was to have my highlights touched up as my normal stylist was booked for the holidays.My hair is practically orange now, and I look terrible. My hair is now destroyed. This morning i brushed out two brush fulls of hair even using my wet brush detangler and a bunch Of leave in conditioner. My hair is now gummy, Orange, and falling out. It was cut much shorter than I requested. I'm practically in tears over the experience and have to spend the holidays looking like this. Let me just say I'm an unnatural Blonde and am very picky about stylists, but after my old stylist left I did a deep dive into MULTIPLE MULTIPLE stylist Instagram portfolios and after spending a lot of time looking at her magic work, I decided to reach out to her and book an appointment. She was extremely quick getting back to me and even offered me an appointment within 7-10days!! That's quick! From the moment I got there she made me feel so comfortable, listened to what I wanted done, and NAILED it, my new blonde hair felt so darn healthy, and refreshed afterwards and I will continue seeing her ONLY for my hair. I have had 2 appointments with her so far and she truly listens to what you want and need and even in between appointments when I have had questions she has gone out of her way to answer all of them and even offer advice that was super helpful. My husband actually noticed right when I got home from my appointment (normally, he always says it looks the same) but after seeing Kyla he said, wow, she did the best job out of all the years you have got your hair done! I bought their spa on Groupon and thought I would try this place out.....sadly I doubt I will ever try this place because of the worst experience I had just trying to book with Michael. I tried booking with them 3 different times. First I got the date and the day of the appointment they had to "cancel" on me due to family emergency..okay I reschedule it for the following week. Then again they cancelled on me due to the same family emergency. I had a wedding to attend so I decided to go to another salon. The last time I tried to book after realizing it was about the expired I called Michael to see if I can use the Groupon before it expired....NO CALL back...NOTHING.... This review is specifically regarding the poor treatment by one Ms. Karen McDonald. I live in San Francisco and couldn't spend Mother's day with my mom, so I purchased a Groupon gift for her. Considering that she is a hard-working woman (she's a veteran elementary school teacher), she deserves to be pampered. She had set an appointment for 12pm. When she arrived for her appt., she was told that it was for 1pm. Rather than admit an honest error (or at least acknowledge and apologize for the misunderstanding), Ms. McDonald became very defensive, argued with, and treated my mother rudely. That is not how one conducts business. Considering the poor treatment, my mother refused to have services there. She went to a salon spa next door where she was welcomed and learned that other clients have come into her salon after a negative altercation with Alexander Spa. Good to know that whenever I come down to visit my mom in SoCal, this is one place to avoid. I contacted Groupon to inform them of my mom's experience and they gave me a full refund plus an additional $10 to use on their site. (Thank you!) They have noted that this salon has terrible customer service. read more

Return your groupon/living social voucher while you still can... One star for the services and management (only because you can't give zero...) Got a haircut and style from Edie Ricardo last week and sadly, was very dissatisfied with the quality (see pictures). She flatly refused refunds, but offered a trim. Given the current state of affairs, I'd rather pay full price for a professional to fix this rather than take the risk again. Hair cut: (0 stars) The cut was poorly done and very crooked. After growing it out for a week, it just looks worse. In Edie's defense, it looked fine at the salon, as Edie did a fine job styling. However, after washing your hair, you can really tell the quality isn't there. Again, I point you to my pictures, showing the cut (after washing and using the flat-iron). Wash (3-4 stars) just your standard, basic wash, nothing fancy/no massage; done by Edie's assistant. Styling/Blow dry (2 stars) Edie is too rough with the comb (furiously stabbing and raking it through hair) and a little slow with the blowdryer (holding it in the same place for a second longer than she should each time). I asked her politely to be more gentle and she retorted"Do you have a sensitive scalp or something?" No... I didn't know this was a thing, except with respect to chemicals associated hair-dying. Her response really shows a lack of accountability and customer service skills. I also suspected she was used to working on those mannequin/doll heads instead of actual customers. She was initially more gentle but quickly reverted back to combing furiously. On management: Edie's assistant informed me there are about 60 salon chairs rented out to individual stylists. Picture a food court....or getting your hair cut at a a kiosk. Indeed, if you are dissatisfied, management will accept no responsibility and defers all accountability to its renters. I spoke with the manager who was very dismissive, and directed me to contact Edie, stating "you pay the stylist, I don't get any money." So I guess you provide workstations and chairs for free, and that is why there is no accountability? Finally I saw prior good reviews for her, which leads me to question how trustworthy yelp really is, as Edie really needs way more experience before trying to charge what she does. read more

Stev ... its all about Stev. He could cut my hair in a dreary basement, in a sketchy part of town, and I would still go. The best part of visiting Stev is knowing what to expect. There aren't any unwanted surprises with Stev. The only surprise is how epic your hair looks afterward. There is one down side to having Stev trim your locks ... everybody (and often their mother) wants Stev to trim their locks. Some times Stev has to take extra care to get it right and you have to wait a couple minutes. He is always very polite about it though. More to the point, if you treat him with respect, he will treat you like the King (or Queen ... depending on your gender ... and the manner in which you dress ... or whichever gender you identify with). I scheduled my appt with Micheal Mejia at 12:30. I got seated at 12:40 which is not bad but I was in the chair for about 30 minutes until he got to me. I got partial highlights and a haircut. He took 5 snips on my hair and called it a day. I had to tell him to give me some texture to my haircut. As for my highlights, he did some partial ombré highlights since I already had ombré hair. It actually turned out decent. Overall, this salon is more like a factory. If you're looking for a salon that is more about quantity versus quality then this is the right place for you. I got my eyebrows waxed today by a girl named Amy. Cost $15 I came at around 11:02 my appointment was at 11. I went to the front desk and told the lady in front I had an appointment and since this was my first time they showed me where Amy's room was. They were all very courteous. I came in and she quickly started up a conversation and I was surprised by how comfortable I was. She was very easy to talk too and very fast! Virtually pain free and I didn't get the awful red marks you get from waxing. Also, the wax wasn't hot it was just the right temperature so it didn't burn my skin. After she finished she asked for my name, number, email, address and she told me that she gives free eyebrow waxes on your birthday. The only reason I am giving this a 4 instead of a 5 is my appointment was set for yesterday (Monday) at 10 am and when I came in on time the lady up front told me she would be there any second a couple minutes later she told me that there was a mix up in the schedule and that she wouldn't come in until 4pm. She said I could come in the next day anytime between 8-11 so i did. Amy personally apologized but it still annoyed me because it was a waste of time and gas. My eyebrows look very nice. Usually when I get my eyebrows done there thin and don't look right on my face. She left them big because that's how my eyebrows are and personally I think they look more beautiful that way. read more

This review is specifically for Karen McDonald. I saw Karen for a pedi and gel nail polish. When she called for me to come to her station she didn't even introduce herself. She just sat me down, handed me her polish samples and started talking. She did a nice job on my gel polish but I could have got the same thing for cheaper at any other nail place. When she was doing my pedi she seemed so distracted with texts and phone calls on her cell. She said she was waiting for a table to get delivered to her house and wanted to keep in contact with her daughter that was helping her with the delivery. She received a call from her daughter and continued a conversation with her about getting her taxes done and how much she is getting back. She actually walked away from me to talk on the phone about her daughter's tax return. I thought it was so rude and unprofessional. It couldn't wait?!!? She didn't even excuse herself, she just walked away. I like to relax when I get my pedi but she didn't make me feel relaxed. I felt like she did a quick job. The top coat didn't even cover the entire nail on ALL of my toes. It looks terrible. Message was super quick and that is what I look forward to the most. I will include a pic of my toe nail top coat. Thankfully a friend of mine referred me to Michael ESSE and I will never go anywhere else as long as he is in driving distance. I have always been a Schwartzkof snob and was initially disappointed when I learned he was a Paul Mitchell professional. Even my Schwartzkof stylist in Montana complimented me on my hair when I had gone back. To top it all off is the extra time he takes to give your head an amazing massage. I would have Rima style my hair, while she had Cindy do hers. Both of them moved across the street to Alexander's and I eventually started to see Cindy because Rima was on maternity leave. Even after Rima returned, I stayed Cindy's client. Don't get me wrong, I liked the way Rima did my hair, I just preferred the way Cindy did mine. Cindy is a great hairstylist and is actually a color expert. She's definitely honest and not afraid to tell you what looks good and what is not flattering. I always enjoy getting my hair done by her because not only does she make my hair look fabulous, but I love my conversations with her since she's so hilarious. I even recommended Cindy to my older sister a few years ago and now she sees her nearly every two months! She didn't check my hair to ask if I liked it, I thought she would as other hairstylist generally ask me but then told me the price and I was just shocked.... She generally has an assistant and does a couple people at one time. I don't really like this because she's not focused on my hair and how everything is turning out. It was so damaged that I had to cut it... I think she may be better with people with lighter color hair maybe because the pictures looks great, but I never saw a video so you can't really tell the texture. You can tell the difference between a good/bad balayage based on how well blended the highlights are. Briza's work is absolutely flawless. I love this salon. Lots of space for hair stylist to work and more privacy with your stylist. There's a cafe in there and often times the assistant will ask if I would like anything to eat or drink from the cafe. Not sure if all assistants do so. Besides the salon I only came here because the most incredibly talented briza has transferred here. Any and all of my friends have ask me who does my hair as if I don't brag enough and so I send anyone I know to her.
