We came to Halifax to celebrate my friends birthday. We had planned on going out to clubs to drink but we were starving so stopped at Alexandra's for some food. My boyfriend got a slice of pizza with a corona and I got a poutine and a cooler. The food was incredible and well priced, they have specials on drinks and combos. The vibe there was so lit with music and the people we stayed for 3 hours drinking and meeting new people. It was such an amazing experience from beginning to end. Going to this little pizza place we did not expect to have the most amazing time ever out in Halifax. Alexandra's is the little pizza shop that could. From humble beginnings, it has grown to encompass six metro locations, including the shop in Fairview. Alexandra's is not your typical local pizza shop. The menu they offer is as varied as you can imagine: pizza is certainly featured, but so are other Maritime and Greek favourites - poutine, donair poutine, spanokopita, hot sandwiches, subs ... I could go on and on. The Greek salad is particularly lovely, with generous helpings of feta cheese and black olives. The dressing is house-made, a tangy combination of oregano and other Greek spices in an oil and vinegar emulsion. One of the most appreciated issues (for me) is that Alexandra's delivers at lunch time. You can choose from the online menu, phone your order in and have it at your door within minutes. Alexandra's also offers debit at the door, so a lack of cash is never an excuse. We've had good success with Alexandra's food over the years, and the Fairview location is one of my favourites. DO NOT GO HERE! I ordered food from here the other night and it was awful. Food arrive extremely cold, we had to heat it up in the oven! Once I started eating, I realized there were no toppings in my panzerotti. It was about a tablespoon of cheese and the rest was sauce. What's even more awful than the food is the customer service. I work over nights at a hotel on back shift. I always enjoy when places are open super late so that I'm able to order from them, and not starve halfway through my shift. Last night, I ordered two orders. One for me, and another for my coworker. I had the chicken schwarma, and they had a small pizza with sausage, pineapple, and one other thing I can't remember, and a small garlic fingers with donair sauce. The price was not an issue, seeing as how mine came to 11.70, and his came to 27. What we did have a problem with however, was how long the driver took. It was almost an hour after we ordered that we got our food, and it had gotten a bit cold. I can understand not knowing where your going, but that's what google maps is for. Regardless, the driver was relatively nice. The pizza was disappointing for him, and the garlic fingers had a bit more crust than normal. The schwarma had too much sauce, and everything was concentrated on one side, so the meat was on one side, while the onions and tomato was on the other. Wasn't really that flavourful either. A bit bland in my opinion. I've ordered from here twice before, and figured the third time if give them the benefit of the doubt. First of all, let me say that their donair sauce is AMAZING. And I don't even eat donairs. Their pizza is also delicious, although the crust is a tiny bit too thin for my taste. But that's just me. As far as independent places go, Alexandra's always seems physically clean, and the pizza is not of the cardboard-flavoured variety found at most local joints. I can tell that this stuff is made with love instead of copious amounts of grease. How can I tell? It's a feeling that I've ingested something that will provide my body with nutrition of some kind, and there's a tasty freshness to it. My favourite place to get pizza and garlic fingers. The pizza sauce is perfect (can't stand overly sweet sauce, always a dealbreaker) and there's no skimping on any toppings here! The garlic fingers are likewise awesome. Crust on either is never undercooked. I have ordered multiple other items besides pizza and garlic fingers though; poutine is great (but get the extra cheese), nachos are piled amazingly high. And everything comes at a very fair cost. The staff are always super friendly, and their online ordering is a breeze; I've used it many times now. They seem to pay close attention to orders as I've never gotten anything incorrect, and mine always involves a bizarre ingredient swap. Highly recommend this location; can't speak to any of the others but Fairview is a winner in my book. read more

Ew. Ok, their pizza is tolerable- sauce is sweet, crust is soft. But never my go-to. Everything else is deep fried and often old. But the biggest disappointment was last night. After a 13 hour day, driving back to Clayton park- your take out options at 10pm are limited. So I remembered hearing an ad on the radio and seeing a sign in their window that they sold chicken shawarma. Mmmm.....being a huge fan of Venus'...I thought that Alexandra's might be good too. Wow was I wrong. The person taking the order was so nice which is always a plus. However, no where in sight was there chicken shawarma (usually on a spit, right?). Ah well.... I ordered it anyway- I didn't want pizza, a donair, or deep fried foods...so i was settled on shawarma. After about 10 minutes, it was ready- and all wrapped up, it looked huge!....and I thought after she told us the total was 9.19, it better be huge. Starving, I get it home and unwrap it. It wasn't even warm (I live 5 mins from the shop). And worst of all.... there was no chicken in it! All that was filling this wrap was huge chunks of old lettuce, a little onion...and scraps, scarps of chicken. Tiny tiny hard pieces of chicken- like skin. There was no one solid piece of chicken- trust me, I picked through the entire wrap. I realize, like donaris there is the occasional hard piece, but this was literally tiny tiny scraps. And most most disgusting was the "garlic" sauce. Oh yes, it looked and had the consistency of what you are thinking. It was so lumpy and chunky that i mistook it numerous times for pieces of onion. I honestly didn't eat this thing, fearing that the ingredients were spoiled and I would be sick. Wow. what an experience- will never be back. Also, I think they need to rethink the "people love us on yelp" sticker in the window- from what i see....that isn't the majority of the cases. read more

I ordered a large pepperoni pizza with a cup of donair sauce and picked it up on my way home, it was around 8pm. The girl at the counter was friendly and helpful. I got it home and ate it with my roommate. Around 4 am, BOTH of us were out of our beds and quite sick, the kind that comes on fast and out of nowhere. Not being the type to complain I thought I'd call the next day, just to give them a heads up that something in the kitchen may be off. I was put on the phone with the manager and he immediately and without any questions, proceeded to tell me about all the inspections they pass, how well their staff is trained in food safety, ingredients are always fresh blah blah blah... He told me "It can't be food poisoning because that takes 24 hours to set in". (My roommate is a nurse and no it doesn't) Now I don't usually take the time to write reviews but to be told this BS by the manager, when even top restaurants get food poisoning cases, is the limit for me. We're now talking about people's health and saftey, not poorly made pizza or late deliveries. You shouldn't have to worry about getting violently ill when ordering a pizza from your neighbourhood pizza shop. Clearly they aren't worried as no questions were asked and none of my information was taken down, he just continued to tell me it couldn't have been the food...it was the last thing both of us ate, we weren't drinking.. If it had been handled differently then I'd still be a customer as this hasn't happened before but their immediate defensive reaction tells me that this isn't their first time at all. He could've offered a refund up front and that would've been as far as this went, instead he essentially called me a liar. I doubt they're going to see this because based on the sheer amount of negative reviews, it doesn't look like anyone there really cares at all. Take the chance if you want but the food isn't worth the risk to me. Sort yourselves out Alexandra's! read more

To be completely honest, I'm not really a big fan of the actual pizza at Alexandra's Pizza. Maybe it's because I like my pizza toppings fairly boring (it's rare that I venture outside the basic pepperoni and cheese, except to add pineapple), but I've always found the pizza to be a little bland. But, much like the Economy Shoe Shoppe, I always find myself forgetting that I'm not really a fan of the food. Inevitably, at 3 am on some night of last-minute studying, I'll make a call to my closest Alexandra's and place an order. Although I don't *love* the pizza, it's certainly not bad pizza. It does the trick, especially since Alexandra's is one of the few places in town that delivers so late at night. And, to compensate for the lackluster pizza, I can always order zucchini fingers. These are deep fried little sticks of zucchini that are ridiculously greasy and gross. But I love them and I'm able to convince myself that they're healthy. They're a vegetable, after all. Like french fries. The delivery service is almost always very speedy and polite. I've had a few slow nights, but those are the exception. As an added bonus for the anti-social among us, Alexandra's recently added online ordering to their website, so you can minimize all human contact! Perfect for those nights when you just want to hide away in your apartment and talk to some food about your problems. read more

I am usually a dedicated Metro Pizza girl, but tried to phone when I was hankering for a craving at 11:15am on a Friday. To my dismay they didn't answer the phone and I went on searching to fulfil my stomachs wishes. Trying to locate new spots can be overwhelming on the internet, and when it comes to pizza it certainly can be hit or miss. My tummy kept rumbling and it became down right scary. Then I landed on Alexandras Pizza website. Top 3 in my google search results. WOW- Alexandras has a web ordering system, uber efficient, user friendly and fast. 12 clicks later I had ordered a medium garlic fingers, a vegetarian sub, and a greek salad, and Dr. Pepper. Its not often I eat such treats like these, but I was hungry and wanted a bit of a platter. Plus I am at home all weekend in the books and who doesn't love leftovers? Am I right? I have been a little disenchanted with our regular pizza spots of late.I don't know if my fav places have all simultaneously hired new pizza cooks or if I'm just getting cranky, but last night I just couldn't bring myself to fork over more of my hard earned cash to food that I already knew I wasn't going to like before it even got to my door.I got a flyer in my mail box this week for Alexandra's, so I decided to not only give their pizza a go, but also to attempt , for the first time, to place a delivery order online. The online ordering process was super easy, not scarey at all. It stated that it would take approximately 45 minutes for my order to arrive, so i poured myself a glass of wine and settled in for the wait. Within 30 minutes my pizza was at my door, and piping hot! Now, mind you, I do live fairly close to this particular location, so that was a bonus for sure. We ordered 2 large pizzas. One with Pepperoni and Italian sausage, and one with Mushrooms and Anchovies.Can i just say, right here, how much I Looove Anchovies on pizza, and not nearly enough places have them. They actually have a great selection of toppings, Both Pizzas were a hit. The sauce was perfect, not too spicy, not too sweet. The crust could have been a tiny bit thinner for my liking, but at least it was thoroughly cooked, and tender. I might try next time to ask for a thinner crust, and see what happens. The menu is quite extensive, with all the foods I typically like to order ,so I could potentially see myself ordering from Alexandras a lot. One of our favourite places to pick up a steaming, gooey pizza pie, perfect when all you want to do after a long day is flop on the couch with a good movie and a meal you didn't have to cook yourself. The Canadian Classic is generally our pizza of choice, the special sauce (the secret? brown sugar, according to their take-out menu) is excellent. It also has a garlic crust, for extra tastiness. Their garlic fingers are the best I've ever had. Apparently their poutine is what they are most famous for (again, courtesy of the take out menu), though I haven't tried it myself, and therefore cannot comment on the veracity of this claim. read more

Avoid at all costs. Here are two important things to know: 1) They (and all other pizza chains in Canada) get specifically mozzarella pizza cheese for pennies on the dollar due to a deal with the diary industry. Consequently it costs basically nothing for them to put cheese on a pizza and you're getting the worst quality possible. 2) Alexandras will over charge for less toppings then what you think you are getting. EX. You order a large pepperoni pizza, someone else orders a large pepperoni and sausage pizza; all they do is take half the pepperoni off and replace that with sausage for example. So, you never get more but you sure will pay more! BONUS: if you ever go for a slice, look at how disproportionate the slices are and how, for god knows what reason, they give the fattest most disgusting people the largest slice and shaft you with basically a throw away slice that is a quarter the size of what they give the fat tub of lard that somehow managed to waddle it's way in before you did. Place sucks and always has. Over priced for their garbage toppings and disgusting sauce. Literally go anywhere else, and if you can't find a pizza place close to you and alexandras is the only one, get something else to eat instead of pizza in that situation; seriously. read more

I wasn't in the mood for Pizza so I ordered the poutine and chicken wings. Delivery was made I would say quite on time and I didn't have to wait longer than expected. The poutine was average, I had the Greek, and they were quite generous with their portions and cheese. They lose stars because of their chicken wings. Its almost as if somebody said "We're out of chicken wings... Oh no wait! I see some here that have fallen behind the fryer, they look three days old, but just throw them in there anyway!" They were absolutely the worst I've ever had.. I even had to throw the majority away. They were dry, stale and completely flavourless, save for the honey garlic dip that was thrown in their with them. I won't be ordering from there again. Wow.. Disappointed a second time in a row. I didn't expect that. Saturday nights are usually pretty crazy in a pizza place. I know this because I worked at several over the years growing up. Now... Don't get me wrong. The food is great. I agree with every other review about this particular pizza shop about the taste and quality of the food. The donair sauce is indeed one of the best I've ever had and the pizza dough is unmatched in the city. The delivery service however... Just sucks. I ordered 2 large pizzas and a large donair at 8:50 pm. I live less than 3 minutes away and was entertaining friends so I asked for delivery. When I called, I explained about the disappointing time for delivery the previous time (48 minutes). I also gave very clear directions to my house, which they had on record. The person who took the order (turns out... the manager) assured me that that wouldn't happen again. He was wrong. 41 minutes later, cold pizza arrived. The bill was $44 plus tip to the driver. I was so upset, I actually called the shop and was told the manager would call me back. Had a brief conversation same manager who really just didn't care. I've been ordering burgers from Alexandra's from years and have always enjoyed them. I got a burger delivered tonight and the patty was a thin frozen factory patty. It tasted like a frozen boxed burger from the grocery store. They just lost a customer of almost twenty years. It was very disappointing. *** UPDATE *** I emailed Alexandra's and complained about my terrible burger. I told them I had enjoyed their burgers for many years and was disappointed by their change to the low-quality frozen patty I got served that night. I guess I've ordered most of the food in previous years from the Queen St. location and I assumed that the level of quality would be comparable at all locations. Well, the hubby and I ordered from here again and played it safe with a donair and garlic fingers. They have the best garlic fingers I've ever had! They were buttery, cheesey and delicious. Drove all the way in from Timberlea to get a large donair - asked the lady at the counter to put the donair and veggies on the side as I'm a diabetic (no sauce) and I cut it in half as my daughter likes tomatoes and sauce and I can have onions and tomatoes - she said she would put the sauce in a cup BUT would have to charge me $1.50 for each cup for the veggies - "company policy" said I'm not paying extra for that - she said I'll just put it all on the donair then - I said no that's not what I want and that's a complete money grab - I said use some of the EXCESSIVE tin foil you use on the donair for it. Again she said its "company policy" I said keep your donair I'll go somewhere else. I've never experienced this type of money grab or attitude basically F me is how I felt I go here a lot, unless the owner contacts me with an apology and compensation I will not be coming back They also ding your debit card 30 cents for using it - that's bullshit! I recently moved and decided to order pizza for everyone after moving day. My cousin suggested I order from here and get delivery. I found the website not overly mobile-friendly but I was able to see the specials. I ordered 3 large pizzas and a garlic finger. Everything was here within around 30 minutes and the delivery driver was nice. The pizza was surprisingly good and was a hit. The only down side was the cost, $70 for the 3 pizzas (no special toppings) and tip. The same order would have cost me no more than $40 at the place I ordered from at my old place. I had been ordering from Alexandra's for a couple of years now without issue, so imagine my surprise (and disgust) when I found a bandaid baked into the crust of one of the pizzas they delivered. I drove it back to them for an explanation and apology, but they instead tried to convince me I must have put it there myself. Go somewhere else, Halifax. Anywhere else.
