As another review stated, I am writing this review specifically for their business practice and lack of response and not for the quality of the lawn service. I have been a loyal customer for three years without any issues and have always been satisfied with their service. Except for last year when they switched to new management. Last year I had them do over seeding and aeration. This is the same service they had provided to me the two previous years with one exception. This time when I received the bill it was $50.00 more then the previous year for the exact same service. This price increase was never brought up when I created the appointment and in fact when I asked the receptionist if the cost would be the same from the previous year, she stated YES. After leaving numerous messages and continuing to call for two weeks, I was finally able to resolve the issue after an hour long conversation with the office manager. No one from Alexandria Lawn Service ever returned my calls. Now, fast forward to this year. We receive a contract from Alexandria Lawn Service for lawn mowing. We did not sign the contract and called their company to cancel service. We thought this issue had been resolved by the conversation we had with the receptionist. We were wrong. Alexandria Lawn Service still came by and mowed my lawn twice. I called and spoke to the receptionist again stating that I wished to not continue service as I requested earlier on a previous call. This time she stated cancellation needed to be in writing and required 30 days notice. I asked why this was not brought up on my initial phone conversation when I called to cancel service. She did not have a response!!!! But wait, it gets better. The initial contract Alexandria Lawn Service sent for this year was for $30 a mow. This is the same contract I did not sign as I wished to cancel service. I then received a bill from Alexandria Lawn Service for the two mows at $40 a mow. Where the hell did $40 a mow come from??? I then pulled out the contract they sent me this year which was never signed and returned. If you read the fine print on the contract, it states if the service being provided changes or the price of the service changes then a new contract needs to be signed, otherwise you are automatically renewed against the contract from the previous year. Last time I checked $30 does not equal $40. Once again I have left numerous messages for Pam "office manager" with no returned calls. This is now the second time "new management" has switched prices without notification. Based on this improper billing practice and lack of communication I would HIGHLY recommend anyone looking for lawn service to take their business elsewhere. read more

Used this lawn service last year. Each month they bill you by email. IDK if it's a problem with the provider they've selected or they've overcharged me, but I'm still getting those updates and still paying. Will be seeking another lawn service provider this year -- hopefully one with auto-bill-pay. It's a shame, because they actually do a pretty nice job with my (crappy-looking) yard. read more

I had an initial disappointment with the front desk staff but Pam reached out to me and went out of her way to make up for it. I felt they were very professional in getting me an estimate and understanding what i needed. I haven't used them yet since my project is big and will require a large budget but I am looking into hiring them as soon as I am ready to get things done. read more

I have used Alexandria Lawn Service for an annual "Spring Clean Up" and other work for the past three years. They have responded quickly each time and scheduled the work promptly. Pros: Regular weekly service, friendly workers, reasonable price Con: Terrible customer service, damage to lawn and would not change practices to prevent further damage or repair the areas, cut on weekends which can mess up outdoor guest visits. I contracted ALS back in 2004-2005 when I had surgery and could not mow the lawn for a couple of months. I was happy to have someone I could count on to regularly mow the lawn and gathering the leaves in the fall. As time went on, however, I started noticing they would come right after a rain and would leaving small tire marks in the lawn. No big issue, I would just tell then to come another day. Then we noticed regularly spaced bald spots in the yard where they would make turns with the mowers. ALS uses a ride-behind mower as opposed to walk-behinds so they can mow the lawn faster. With this type of machine, they can mow the lawn at a fast rate. At first, I would patch the areas and didn't mention it to them, but after a couple of years I took photos and sent them to the field manager. He assured me they would repair the areas and properly train the crews, but neither happened because year after year the problem kept re-occurring. Several calls to the main office went without a call back. Finally in 2015, they scalped the lawn in two areas in the front yard that are perfectly level. After calling the office and not receiving any call back with an apology or plan to repair the areas, I fired them! read more

I have been a loyal customer of Alexandria Lawn Service for almost 15 years. They are the best in every way. They offer reasonable prices, reliable service, professional staff with a true "can do" attitude, and outstanding work. Just tell them what you need and it will be done. I trust them so much that I no longer even ask for estimates, knowing that the work will be done professionally and at a fair price. I simply would not consider using any other lawn service. They also do outstanding landscaping and any other outdoor service you might need. Five stars! read more

This company is horrible. They dont return phone calls, they lied and charged me more than the actual time they were at my house. They have a phone system that is so broken you cant even hear the person on the other line as there's just an echo of your own voice..so communicating even on the phone is tough. It's been over 2 weeks since I first called, and each follow up call I made to them I was promised they would show to give an estimate yet I'm still waiting. I contacted the company to obtain a quote for lawn care services at a relative's house. My cousin is unable to maintain the sizable yard properly and it is difficult for family to always help out. The first service I called left a bad impression, so my mindset prepared me for a potential run around. The owner, Pam, promptly returned my call and answered all of my questions. She explained her services and created a lawn care plan. Her polite and professional manner stuck with me, which quickly disarmed my apprehension. Seriously, I must have gotten at least a dozen other quotes from their competitors and their's was the best. We have a relatively small plot - corner townhouse in North Old Town - so even finding someone to come and now for us was a challenge! ALS was willing to make us a stop and at a reasonable price. We have used them for two spring/Summer's now and have been happy with their service and customer interactions. I almost always communicate with them through text which is easy and efficient. I used Rosemont Landscaping for servce at my home, Initially, they did a grerat job (early Summer 2016). They charged $90 per visit (we have a very small lawn...no grass) to maintain but it did need weed removal and trimming of bushes etc, We travel a lot on business so we aksed for monthly service and allowed them to auto charge our credit card. I was finally home for a longer period of time begining Oct 2016. I called to ask the company when they would be working on our outdoor space as it was in need of care. They responded that they had actually accomplished the work just that week. Well I have to tell you, I was in shock as it was NOT done....nothing at all. Finally, she said she would continue to charge the work on our credit card, which I said I wold not authorize. Further, I said I no longber wanted service, since it was NOT being done. So I advise to never give your credit card to a business to use...not just this company, unless someone is home to validate the work is actually done, I do not recommend this company. I suspect they are not in need of more work as they definitely did not have time for me. We still need a good company but I will be very careful and ask for references and look at YELP in the future. UPDATE AGAIN - I had to fire them. Poor communication, not finishing work they started and agreed to, etc. Their weekly lawn crew was fantastic, but dealing with anyone/anything else was simply not worth my time. UPDATE: This is the third season they've done my work, and like Dave J, I simply asked them to come do the spring cleanup this year. First, the person who took my call said she'd have someone get back with me, two days later I faxed a request for contact, three days after that I called again, and the woman who answered said she'd let me know via email when they could come out. That was over a week ago; no email. I'm SERIOUSLY disappointed by the office/management staff. That said, the crews who come out are amazing. They work hard, do the job right, and clean up properly. I have been using Alexandria Lawn Service / Alexandria Landscaping for over 12 years. They have always been great, and have gotten progressively larger and more organized and professional over the years. They are responsive and do great work for a reasonable price. They mow my lawn every other week, and have done many other projects for me over the years, including gutter cleaning and shrub trimming. Just had a big cleanup job done of a large overgrown area, and trimming several shrubs and cleaning out some flower beds. They did a good job. I recommend Alexandria Landscaping! read more

Pam is one of the most customer-focused individuals I have *ever* met. She has impeccable attention to detail, and she gets things done *quickly*. We had inquired with (no joke) four separate landscaping companies to get some yard maintenance done at our house. I think b/c it was the summer / high season, the larger lawn companies felt they didn't even need to respond! Alexandria Lawn Service was the only company that treated my *smaller* lawn job as if it were just as important as the huge-$$ ones. She also came through with *incredible* turnaround time on a painting and carpeting emergency that we had at our rental property. I cannot thank this company enough. They are tremendous. I will go there for as many services as they offer! :) But DO keep this in mind -- they do a lot more than lawn care (painting, tree removal, etc.). read more

Last year, I was in need of some help with the Crape Myrtle in my front lawn. A friend recommended that I give ALS Services a call. I was initially hesitant, but I eventually called and I am SO glad I did!!! The front desk staff was so pleasant and took the time to listen to my needs. I honestly, did not know much about lawn care but I was so pleased with the care I recieved. The owner, Pam, is so wonderful and took the time to inform Me of the step by step process of the services being provided. I was given an estimate which was a fair and reasonable price. The staff that took care of my tree were very efficient, respectful, and finished the job in a timely manner. They also were very thourough and gave me great advice on what to do in the future in terms to lawn care. I was so pleased that I called them the next day to request bi weekly lawn care. The one star is for the Office staff mainly. The actual people who handle the lawns do a very nice job. However, you will be ignored for weeks when leaving a message or sending an email and even when you have credit cards on file, you will be sent late notices. Tell me, how is one late on a bill that you HAVE AUTOPAY set up for... not quite sure who runs this office but they need to be fired immediately and then they would have a shot at being an all-around top notch company. I feel really really bad for the workers in this company because its not fair that they lose the work that the office staff just cant seem to handle properly. read more

We used this service last year without a problem, but this year they've ruined our lawn by mowing when the ground is too wet, then by mowing over two sprinkler heads. We have ruts in our yard where the mowers plowed up mud, the grass we were trying to grow got destroyed, and after we replaced one broken sprinkler and put a flag out to warn the mowers, they ran over another one and broke it. We'll be looking for a new service now. read more
