I had an epidural cortisone shot back then with the spine institute, and it worked so well, but I had major billing issues and ended up having to pay a lot of money out of pocket. Dr. Gay's office was diligent in insuring that my insurance would cover both my office visit and my shot with them so I never had to worry about the financial side. I was nervous about my cortisone shot with a new doctor because Dr. Gay did not have it at a surgery center the way the spine institute did, however, I could not be happier with the process. Not only was it quick and easy, it was not really painful, and once I saw the room and the assistant, I felt completely comfortable with the process and with Dr. Gay. Within 24 hours I experienced substantial pain relief, and after going through 4 weeks of dibilitating pain, I almost cried with relief when I woke up the next morning and could get out of bed without assistance. Dr. Gay did set proper expectations that physical rehabilitation would be necessary to maintain the pain relief and fully recover, and immediately sent a referral to a place that was in network who I received a call from the very next day. I am so happy that I went in to see Dr. Gay, and I will continue to use him as my pain relief provider in the future (hopefully for not much longer). The only negative thing I can say is that he is very busy and it can take a while to get in to see him, which when you are in so much pain can feel like forever.

Dr. Kallman was able to fix my sinus problems from which I suffered for over 12 years! Best of all, my surgery was a smashing success with very minimal discomfort. Not like in the old days where you left the hospital with your nose all packed and in pain. Relatively painless with a very quick recovery. What more could I ask for? I highly recommend his services. Since my personal experience with Dr. Kallman, I have recommended his services to my friends and family. All have been completely satisfied. I have also brought my children to him for ENT services. Three years ago Dr Kallman removed my 13 year olds adenoids at our local surgery center. We went camping later thar same day. He's that good....

When I came back to AK I went straight to Kallman and he found that the only possible way for me to get back to normal was to pull those suckers out. A few week later, the surgery was done and I felt 100 times better. This doc really knows his stuff and is willing to talk to his patients. He's also a pretty nice guy, too.

This past June, Dr Tolbert performed an angiogram to examine the previous repair he had done on a…read morelarge aneurysm located at the base of my brain. That went well. The June follow up which required the insertion of a tube which was inserted in my femoral artery. That's when everything went "south" on me. The doctor used fentanyl which was not what we had agreed to during the pre-surgical meeting prior to the surgery. This was all done at Alaska Regional Hospital. I informed Dr Tolbert that fentanyl passes right through my system, providing absolutely no pane relief. As a result, I felt the incision, being alert and aware of the entire procedure. He decided having an anesthesiologist attend the surgery was unnecessary. Since I was literally buckled down on the table, all I could do was to scream out in severe pain. Closing the wound required two nurses pushing down on the inside of my groin, with all their upper body weight to prevent me from bleeding out. Because of the "blown" closure, I had to lay absolutely flat on my back for 6+ hours after the procedure was done. The hospital report said that everything turned out normal, no mention of the loud screaming or my struggles, at all. I informed the hospital of my experience. Dr Tolbert further refused to acknowledge any part of what had happened. I was pissed and decided to contact a couple law firms that specialized in medical malpractice only to find out he had them collectively on retainers so they could not represent me. Eventually I gave up trying to resolve my complaint through the courts. Later I discovered I was not the only patient who found Dr Tolberts actions to be both excruciatingly painful but dangerous due to the high degree of pain I experienced. He had a "C-" on these report pages from previous patients. He further refused to fill out the paperwork from my insurance company which would have allowed me to return to work, to this day. This has resulted in extreme financial hardship for my family. Dr Tolbert was referred to me by my pain specialist so I didn't do my homework to check his performance record. Shame on me! I hope these comments will help others avoid the awful experience I had to endure. If I had the required funds, I would like to make him pay for what he did. Beware, John C Hughes
