Very generic email that they send to waste my time filling out their "new client form" (jotform).
    Yvonne C.

We are currently looking for a vet closer to this area and decided to give this place a try. We've previously been loyal to Beverly Vet since my dog was a puppy of 8weeks. He's almost 5 years old now. Unfortunately, I've been to Alhambra Vet a few times already and if you value your TIME, do not come here!!! The front desk is blatantly the worst. Idk where they found this employee but Diane will make you do extra work for no reason. No wonder why there's always a wait to reach the front desk when you call. They "require" you to do unnecessary bullshit and waste your time. A simple task on their end would turn into a huge headache here. We took our dog to this vet because he had an ear infection. After we got home, I realized that I lost one of his medication. So then I submitted the prescription on Chewy.com and after a whole week, they finally declined my order. Apparently, it was submitted through my email and not through my husband's email. She said they only have my husband's info since he was the first one to bring our dog to this vet. Even though I'm the one who schedules the appointments... and the last person who took our dog here two weeks ago. All of our info would be exactly the same except my husband's name and mine. I'm on his email and use it all the time too btw. So I called the front desk and she said they declined it because I am not the owner listed on their end and that they're waiting for me to complete the "new client form" to transfer all the ownership to me. LOL again, we are both the owners... we live in the same house with our dog... but I guess since my husband was the first person to bring our dog to their vet, I am not considered an owner. If this is their protocol then this is the easiest way to lose a customer. But honestly, I think she just wanted to waste my time. I also asked for a dental quote which I still haven't received till this day. Mind you, I last visited with my dog almost 2 weeks ago. Either this place is extremely slow with everything or front desk employees are simply incompetent. Then this evening Dr. Gil gave me a call. He was super respectful and professional. I explained the situation and right after we hung up, he approved the prescription right away and sent a follow up email as well. This is after hours too. It sucks that the owner himself has to pick up his employees slack. He should reconsider who he hires for the front desk aka the face of his company. They have lots to learn about customer service.

We've been coming here since 2020 and I have to say they're my favorite veterinarians! My family and dog loves Dr. Gil and the other vets. My family moved from South Pasadena to Whittier a few years ago, but we still make the trek to Alhambra because we trust these doctors so much! Thank you to all the receptionists, vet techs and veterinarians at the Alhambra Veterinarian Hospital

Correspondence with portugese authority email outlining the request just before flight of the "microchip implantation certificate".

Zero stars! After a disastrous experience I strongly encourage other potential clients to get services elsewhere. We paid this place a fortune to be USDA vet certified in the assistance of traveling abroad to Portugal. They failed to inform us that we couldn't even board the plane until portugese authorities clear the scanning of the microchip before an vaccinations-that we had to prove our Akita was scanned long before any rabies first shot ever. They should know this and prepare us for this glitch. But they failed to do so and the owner of this place is just horrible, rude and unprofessional. Even when I sent him the portugese authority email stating clearly I couldn't move forward the day of the flight until I corrected this huge mess up. I had spent 700.00 at the USDA certified veterinarian only to be told by the owner, it's not our responsibility to tell you this information only to provide a health certificate". Such nonsense because thereafter I called three more USDA certified vets-who all said very clearly "of course you can't land in Portugal without the scanning proof of her chip number before any shots are administered". They all seemed to know and all said it was unprofessional not to notify us when spending 700.00 to be flight bound ready for international travel. Client beware-far better places to take your pets! Watch, the owner to the business will come onto this review and lie about the contents of my review to cover his own unprofessionalism and incompetence not remotely taking responsibility for a fact that was shown to him in text by an email from the Portuguese authorities literally hours before my departure telling me I must have a letter from the breeder of her scanned microchip showing it was scanned before any vaccination-portugese authorities had the USDA paperwork in hand and still wanted certification of her microchip being scanned before first rabies shot. Other vets knew this but not this one-how come???? Yes the female Veternarian I dealt with was kind and helpful but when I sent this portugese authority email copy to them the day of departure they had no clue this would be an issue and they should have!!!! Period full stop but instead told me word for word it's not their responsibility to tell me such things even though you pay them big bucks to get ALL paperwork properly in order and this is one fact and piece of paperwork the portugese authorities insist upon. The owner instead calls me and doubles down on his error instead of acknowledging an obvious oversight. Sure I was initially prepared to return to this place for a second departure because I liked the female vet I dealt with and I had all my own paperwork fully in order after my first trip only months ago but when this unprofessional owner called to double down and tell me "my text messages were rude" I realized what an asshat he and his own company are and went elsewhere of course! I have all copies of my text messages, and email from portugese authorities as proof but of course his lies and distortion of facts are laughable.

I have been coming here since 2022, and am very happy. All the staff are super friendly and helpful! Dr. Gil and Dr. Gabriele are great! Both are kind and patient in answering any and all questions I had. Prices are reasonable and they do a great job discussing the cost(s). Jazzy doesn't mind the visits bc everyone is gentle and takes good care of her! They recently renovated and it looks amazing!

What happened to Dr H and Dr C ? I called today and was told It was a 3 week wait! This would never happened with them but, I was told there is only one doctor now. Anyone know?

Dr. Henstra is on medical leave, until August. Dr. Carrillo is no longer with the practice. Dr. Gil is the new owner, and has assumed all the patients for 3 doctors.

Are they open during this Shelter in Place period? How are they handling their appointments while social distancing?

Update: they now allow contact free appointments and will pick up your pet from the parking lot. You need to specifically ask for this when making an appointment.

I'll be taking all 4 cats and husky to Dr. K now. From my experience with other vets and Dr. K, I can tell that Dr. K really cares about the pets, and it's not just another dollar sign in his eyes. He is very knowledgeable and takes his time to explain things to you. I don't feel rushed when I'm talking to him. Other vets I've talked to, I feel that they just want to give my pets treatment, and want me to leave asap so they can get to the next patient/$$$ in their pockets. I did not feel this at SGAH. My cat was in for surgery, and after I dropped her off at 8:00 AM, I didn't hear back all day, even past their closing time of 6:00 PM. I was worried that something may have gone wrong. I received a call a couple of hours after they closed, telling me that they decided to perform the surgery on my cat at the very end of the day, so Dr. K can make sure he is not rushed, and doesn't miss anything. Unfortunately, he said my cat's vitals were dropping during the surgery, and he had to close up my cat asap. He got a biopsy of the liver, which was the primary goal, but he also wanted to check out other things, like the gallbladder, while he was in there, but he didn't have enough time since my cat's vitals were dropping during surgery. I'm glad that my cat survived the surgery. I feel that if my other vet performed this surgery, my cat would not have made it out alive. Dr. K was at SGAH performing surgery on my cat a couple of hours past their closing time (even some of his staff were there until 8:30 PM! when I picked up my cat). This right here says that he cares about your pets as just as much as you do. If not, he would have either rushed surgery or postponed it until the next day, etc. This shows that Dr. K doesn't clock out when 6:00 PM hits. He is there until all of his obligations for that day are completed. I'm grateful for Dr. K and the staff. Dr. K is very knowledgeable, friendly, and compassionate. His staff is also knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming. SGAH's rates are very fair and reasonable, which is why they are always busy!

They took the time to thoroughly examine him, explain everything clearly, and answer all of my questions without making me feel rushed or pressured. What impressed me most was their honesty and integrity. They focused on what Rufus actually needed rather than recommending unnecessary tests or treatments. After speaking with other hospitals, I truly believe the cost elsewhere could have easily been several times higher. Bewell provided exceptional care at a fair price, which is rare to find these days. Most importantly, they treated Rufus like he was their own pet. That level of kindness and compassion meant the world to me during such a stressful time. To Dr. Park and the entire team: thank you for taking such amazing care of my baby. Some of the vets are good, others not so much. We finally decided to switch to a new practice after experiencing enough errors and lapses in care to realize our dogs are not safe receiving care at Vet Villa. I strongly recommend avoiding Vet Villa. 1) Vet Villa prescribed Carprofen flavored tablets to our dog for a painful condition. We were not instructed to keep the bottle far out of reach. The dog found the pill bottle, chewed through the plastic, ate all the pills and suffered an accidental overdose. This led to 2 emergency vet visits, gastrointestinal toxicity that kept us up all night for 5 nights, and large out of pocket costs. But we are glad our dog is still alive. The emergency vet told us they always counsel pet parents to keep this medication bottle far away from the pet, and that they have seen multiple similar overdoses. Vet Villa did not acknowledge my feedback to change their counseling practices to prevent this from happening to others in the future. 2) A skin biopsy was performed in a completely inappropriate fashion by a veterinarian who acted as if she had never evaluated a skin lesion before. I can speak to this because I am a practicing dermatologist. The vet's approach as she examined reminded me of a first year medical student evaluating a condition for the first time. I did not contradict the vet's recommendation and gave it a chance. After all, I am a human doctor, what do I know about veterinary care. As expected, the results returned inconclusive due to the incorrect sampling method. The out of pocket cost was significant. 3) Bloodwork was lost and had to be re-drawn -- no explanation for why it was lost. 4) The practice's own pharmacy does not share prescription records with the office. I was asked in a very accusatory way to provide proof of a prescription that had been continuously refilled by Vet Villa using their own pharmacy for several years.

Reposting -I agree with many of the reviews here. Long post, but the ending is worth it…read more The pricing at this clinic is outrageous. The staff appear professional, but the entire experience felt like a slow, calculated attempt to upsell me on every possible test--most of which had nothing to do with the reason I came in. My regular vet referred me here because it was close to home, and my cat needed a partial ear amputation due to skin cancer. All I wanted was a quote. Instead, the doctor refused to give any estimate until I completed a list of "recommended" diagnostics. Stage 1: Bloodwork -- nearly $700. Then suddenly my cat "had a heart murmur," and I was told anesthesia could kill him unless I pursued more testing. Stage 2: Full-body X‑rays + EKG -- another $600. Results came back normal. Great. But then came the next push: a heart ultrasound, because "X‑rays can't show everything." At this point, I had to ask myself: Do I even have a real choice? If the ultrasound confirmed a murmur, I'd be stuck in a no‑win situation: risk anesthesia or let the cancer spread. It felt like a manufactured dilemma designed to pressure me into more procedures. The doctor even guilt‑tripped me with, "If it were my pet, I'd do the ultrasound." That was the moment I realized how manipulative this was becoming. By now I'd spent over $1,300, and the ultrasound alone was quoted at $450-$600. Finally, after all of this, I got the surgery estimate: $2,200-$2,700 for a small ear amputation (see pictures) The breakdown was absurd--nickel‑and‑diming for every tiny item imaginable. Friends urged me to get a second opinion. So I went to an animal hospital on Figueroa. That doctor listened to my cat's heart twice and confidently said there was no murmur at all. He immediately offered to perform the surgery and gave me the price on the spot. $500. Total. Including overnight stay, biopsy, and medication. I was stunned. And furious. After being told my cat had a heart murmur, after being pushed into unnecessary tests ($1,700), after being quoted thousands ($3,000 plus) for a basic procedure... another vet told me the exact opposite and charged a fraction of the price. Mind you this was the price 7 years ago. I walked away feeling completely misled. Fellow Yelpers, be forewarned: don't let friendly interactions fool you.
