Alive ever after is cute, local, and so sweet. There was a speaker from America's test kitchen when we went, talking to kids about the science behind cooking. Not only does this store have a good selection of kids books that's expertly curated, they also have local cards and pins, and a great reading nook.

I finally got to visit this adorable little book shop across from The Buffalo Zoo. I have been eyeing up their Wednesday morning story time to bring my toddler, but he's usually in daycare during that time. He was home this week so we made the trip over, and I'm so glad! Meg, the owner was super welcoming when we came in. She is having folks wear their masks for story time as of yesterday which I appreciated since all the littles who attend aren't able to be vaccinated yet. There is plenty of seating around the story time area - both for the little ones and the grown ups. Meg was saying many of the moms who are regulars will event hang out with each other after! It's become a really sweet community, which is exactly what she was hoping for. There are tons of great books for kiddos and parents, on so many topics from outer space, to gender fluidity, to animals, to different family types, to kids who don't want to wear their pants! Which happened to be the theme of one of the books that was read - super cute! My little guy was very busy during story time, grabbing books and sensory play toys that were out and collecting them in a pile as he does. But I felt completely comfortable as Meg made a point from the start to say all are welcome - let the toddlers roam, don't fret if they cry or have things to say, no one expects a room full of quiet, attentive listeners. Before leaving, my little dude got a sticker and saw a tube hanging on the wall with butterflies in it (he LOVES a bug), so we snagged that too. I'm hoping to come to some of the weekend events she's got coming up because it was such an all around nice experience! Definitely recommend you come with the kiddos or head over yourself if you are looking for fun and local supporting gifts!

Meg was very helpful and friendly, and she encouraged my son to branch out with the first Tristan Strong book.

Westside Stories is the type of bookstore that you can't help but keep returning to, because it…read moretruly does deliver on those "stumbling upon a gem" moments, with the added bonus of crazy affordable prices for used books that are on the whole in great shape. They have a wide variety of genres, with a truly amazing volume of books fit into their modest shop. My favorite sections to peruse are their literature section (great way to fill out your home library with the classics at an affordable price) and a fun section towards the front called something to the effect of Interesting Lives (just what it sounds like - a well curated section to find someone's story that's sure to be captivating or meaningful, perfect for those like me who avoid non-fiction but would love the right biography or memoir). The staff is friendly but leaves you to browse at your leisure, and the atmosphere is great with the stacks to the ceiling and the chill music in the background. One element that's a great added bonus is their punch card system - spend $30 on used books and get $5 towards your next used book purchase. As if the place wasn't already more affordable than most other book retailers! If you're looking for that "I'm in the movie of my life, romantically browsing the stacks with chill music playing in the background, lost in the world of books" moment, Westside Stories is your place. And, if you're looking for a specific book it's worth a quick call to see if they have it in stock - better to put the money in a local pocket, and get the book used for a great deal.

I was surprised at the good selection available at this small bookstore - I found some treasures in…read morethe sci-fi / fantasy section and have my eye on several others. They also have a nice selection of stickers and some other fun book-themed goods (mugs, candles, etc) so it's a nice place to find gifts for a book lover. This isn't a place to spend hours in but well worth a stop (especially if you are also checking out Rust Belt across the street). Pricing is decent and staff is friendly.
