Stopped here after attending mass at St Peter's after seeing a recommendation on Reddit. I asked for 2 slices of the marinara pizza & 1 of the potato rosemary. Imagine my confusion when the employee picked up 2 of each. When she went to ring me up, I reiterated I only asked for 2 slices of marinara and 1 potato and rosemary. She had a terrible attitude and said I asked for 2 slices of each. I said no, I didn't. She began to argue with me saying I'm paying for the 4 slices. I said no, I will not. You're not going to tell me what I'll be paying for. Another employee came over to diffuse the situation. Shout out to her. Hmmmm got me scratching my head. *scratch scratch* This is a pizza place, but what they serve really isn't pizza. I ordered the Bianca pizza (listed under pizzas) and it was literally just bread. There was no sauce and no cheese. Just bread with slight flavor. Not pizza at all........ The potatoes and rosemary "pizza" was just sliced potatoes thrown on bread with no sauce and no cheese. What the heck is this? Not pizza at all. This is a bread place. Might as well call it "Alice bread sticks" with potatoes, or whatever topping. The menu is unclear as these things are listed under "pizza." That's very misleading for tourists who are expecting pizza (sauce and cheese). read more

It's such an experience, you can pick from so many different options so you can try several since they cut the slice. It's located near the Vatican. Best pizza we had in Rome. The service here was incredible, especially for Italy! The woman offered to make the type of suppli we wanted FRESH because they only had one left and both my friend and I wanted to try it. After maybe five minutes, we had the BEST SUPPLI I had in Rome! We had the cacia Pepe, and it had a ball of cheese oozing from the middle as well. The outside was thick and crispy and the inside was creamy, sharp with Roman cheese, and thick with the risotto. If we had to pick a least favorite it was the cacio e pepe, but that wasn't because it was bad. The pizza was fresh and flavorful. The restaurant is small and just gives space to order and then high tail it out, but I'd say that adds to the charm. Ugh. Best pizza I had in Rome. Better than antico forno roscioli which also had high reviews. But this was so crispy and delicious crust. They had a lot of options in the one in Trastevere. The other ones didn't have the same flavors. We wanted to come back but ran out of time. The marinara pizza (literally just marinara sauce on the pizza) was so good. Says something about how good the crust is when there's almost nothing on it and it was still the best thing we ate. read more

Alice Pizza! The name of this little hole in the wall that has escaped me for over a decade. I've returned to visit Rome again and went down many rabbit warren alleys and to my delight found it again. This time I tried the tomato with anchovy pizza. They heated up a slice and boy was it just as good as I remembered it to be. There were at least 10 different kinds some with prosciutto, mushroom, cheese and with different kinds of bases (thick/thin) however all of them, contain gluten. This little gem has been here for so long and is so popular. It is no longer a hole in a wall but now a proper store with a commercial oven to heat up pizza slices that fly out the door as takeaways. The only thing that hasn't changed is its amazing flavour, quick service and sitting on the steps devouring every bite and people watching. Quintessentially Italian. read more

In most pizza places in Rome expect to choose different types of pizza from behind a glass counter at different sizes to your liking, then pay by weight. I like that more than pizza by the slice lol I went after 1pm over by the Vatican, next door to Pastasciutta and there wasn't much to choose from anymore. I'm sure I got there after the lunch rush. I opted for a red pizza with basil and a white one with some type of sliced ham & potato. The latter was the better, super tasty and the crust was thin and perfect. The tomato based one I could've done without. Yes I'm serious and it's more comfortable than it sounds. I honestly have no idea what I ordered - the pizzas did have names but my knowledge of Italian is very little and everything was happening so fast that I just pointed to what looked good and paid for it. Busy shop but quick service. We stopped by after visited Vatican City, it's about 2 blocks away from the entrance. First you pick your pizza then they put on a digital scale to weight them and that's your cost. Pretty unique concept, we don't have it in the US yet. I love the crispy crust and flavorful toppings. I honestly can't remember the name of each pizza but I know they are all good. Price is reasonable for the portion and they are all in square shape. After we got our pizza, we just sat down on one of the steps and enjoyed our hot and yummy pizza. Totally recommend this place to everyone. read more

Our tour manager brought us here after our visit to the Vatican. Granted, Grace C. and I had already experienced the BEST pizza in Rome at Pizzarium and even though we had already gotten a to-go box elsewhere for lunch, we were willing to try the pizza here. This place is a small takeaway place and with our tour group in there, it was cramped. The workers were the most sour people I had ever encountered in ALL of Italy. I saw one of the girls behind the counter put a slice into the oven so I thought that she would do that with all of the slices ordered. Not so. First I asked for a margherita slice thinking that what I thought was margherita was the same in Rome. It's not. It's just plain tomato sauce and cheese. "Uh, wait. Can I get that one over there with the chunks of mozzarella?" She looked at me and said, "That's not magherita." "Oh sorry, can I get that one instead?" She says, "You mean the buffalo mozzarella?" "Yes, that one." So she puts both slices on the scale. "No, wait. I only want the buffalo slice." "Well you should have told me." I thought I just did. Then she weighs the slice and just hands me the plate without warming it up in the oven. Not to mention that she looks like she's about to kill me with her eyes. Grumpiest service ever. I ended up eating the slice cold. What had been probably decent pizza ended up leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. IF you do go here, expect attitude served with your slice of pizza. You order by the weight and don't expect them to warm it up for you. You'd have to ask for that before you pay because they will just move onto the next customer without so much as a smile to you. Pizzas here are awesome! Crispy crust, flavourful options. I went with the gorgonzola and red onion option and the tomato basil. Exceeded my expectations for pizza from Italy! Pick your desired pizza, it is by weight and they'll happily heat it up for ya. Each slice does come out to about €3-€4. Trying to get away from the touristy places, a man at the Vatican post office told us to go here for real Italian pizza. It was our first day in town and we were starving. They spoke very little English (which we liked) but we walked up, pointed to what we want, and it was ready in just a few short minutes. It's served from a pan instead of by the 'slice' like we're used to. I had prosciutto and cheese on one piece, another with prosciutto, cheese, and pineapple. Either by error or not we got some extra pieces, which was a great surprise! It's a small place but the atmosphere was great, mainly because it didn't feel like they were catering to tourist too hard. The woman behind the counter was quick and to the point, my wife thought she might have been in a bad mood (and a few customers before and after us may have contributed to that), but I chalked it up to her working quickly and efficiently - not unlike the counter workers at 'The Varsity' in Atlanta, where we live. If I'm honest her 'attitude', if you can call it that, added to the experience =) Only wish we could have tried more of the pizzas, if we get back to Rome we may have to swing by if we're near! read more

What a great place to end your Vatican tour. We visited in mid-Aug. After endlessly sweating in the Vatican, we were ready for lunch. It's nearby and a quick spot to grab food. Downside is there are no tables, only seats on the steps. They do provide mats to sit on. Ok, on to what's important: the pizza. There's no wrong choice, although some were better than others. If I recall correctly, I liked the margherita, mushroom and pepperoni. It's easy to try a handful of different toppings, since they weigh your order by the grams. I think I had about 3-4 slices which was quite filling. read more

I feel bad for those yelpers who had bad service here because with a takeaway place that deals with probably a hundred people every 30 minutes you really just have to 1) say hello in italian, 2) pull out more Euro than you think you'll need, 3) point at something you think looks good, 4) if the total is 8 Euro and you have a 10, drop the 10 and walk away with your goods before you get trampled! The weekend found the Gourmet Belly in "rome-ing" the streets of Rome... Every side street and piazza exuded a sense of charm, and Mamma Mia - numerous pizza and gelato shops! Loosening the button on my jeans, the Gourmet Belly was set free and we were ready for our quest in search of the best pizza in the city. One of my friends claimed that she knew a place serving the best pizza she had ever eaten. This was likely to be a sweeping statement, but nonetheless, I had to help her find this place to see (and taste) what the fuss was all about. Alice Pizza a taglio is located on Via delle Grazie, just off one of the main streets of Vatican City. Although it was just a small and nondescript takeaway store, this didn't put me off as I eagerly chose three different types of pizza - Potato and Rosemary, Tomato and Mozzarella, and Pumpkin Flowers with Proscuitto. Ooooh yeah...NIUUUM!! And for those that are thinking "what a guts!", relax...all the pizzas are charged by weight so you're free to order as many different types as you like :) I made a bit of a controversial statement over the weekend, where I suggested that any pizza would taste good so long as it was fresh out of the oven, and it had a decent base. Forgive me, for I was wrong...Fresh pizzas were had throughout the weekend, but Alice Pizza a taglio definitely topped the pizza charts, and was probably the best pizza I have eaten in a very long time.
