I got the vegan sandwich and it actually blew my mind that it was vegan. The cuts of meat were so realistic and the vegan Parm also tasted so close to the original. Duecento was recommended to us by the concierge at our hotel, and it became one of my favorite restaurants of all time in the Vatican area. Service was fantastic. Each one of their waiters and waitresses are friendly. They enjoy getting to know us and are such characters. The vibe of their outdoor seating was so relaxing. I sat outside for hours, eating my sandwich and sipping on both my cappuccino and coke. For food, I got their prosciutto (most popular and had truffles) and two variations of their salami (each had different pickled vegetables--very tasty). For beverage, I got their cappuccino, which was equivalent to that of Death Star of sorts (heavy with caffeine--must be an Italian thing!). Overall, Duecento did not disappoint. This place was one of two places where we had the famous porchetta sandwich. A lot of online travel blogs recommended this place, and I can see why. We got there and the place was packed. It definitely has a grYou either sit and they take your order, or you walk up to the counter to get to go. It's definitely easier to order to go because the seats were scarce when we went for lunch. Ok- we've been back 4 times, maybe 5. I'm thinking we should just eat all our meals here. After our first adventure, eating at a table, we started taking food out- to savor at our bed and breakfast. I've had the Cenci (sp?) Duck and fennel and pumpkin, oh my! And it was GOOD, the Gesu- octopus (Delicious), The Guadalupe (prosciutto, smoked cheese and rocket), the St Iganzio- pork and other deliciousness- and other sandwiches whose names I cannot remember (one night stand sandwiches, as it were). Everything has been outstanding. And it's definitely a great deal. They'll do take out in a bag if you ASK for a bag- otherwise they wrap it up with an end exposed. But just ask them to bag it, and they will- they are so helpful and kind. There is a little basket for your old ticket number (when you order, they give you a receipt and a stub with a number- if you don't speak Italian, hold up your number when you think your order is up and they will identify you.) They've got a nice selection of beers- which I'm working through, and non alcholic drinks as well. This is just a great place. I'm going to try as many sandwiches as I can while I am in Rome- there's one with Escarole and capers and 2 kinds of ham that I've got my eye on for my next sandwich- I think it was called the Paradiso- sounds like paradise doesn't it? If you sit, you pay a different price- I think it's 1 euro more per sandwich. One night (for take out) our TWO sandwiches, which totally filled us up, only cost 11 euro! And it was fabulous- which is a lot more than I can say for some of the restaurants we've been to at 3X the price. Go here. Great panini! After touring the Vatican and Basilica di San Pietro, we were quite hungry. Took out my Yelp app and it pointed me to Decent Gradi. Our tour guide also said that this place was legit. Employees are friendly and quick. The back of the restaurant has seats and servers. There is also outdoor seating with full service. The front of the restaurant is more of a grab and go type feel. There is a counter and you can enjoy your panini standing up without a server. Restrooms are in the back downstairs. The ingredients they use for their panini's are fresh and of good quality. The serving size is huge! We could have bought one and easily shared it. The bread was fresh, toasty on the outside and soft within. This is a great little post-Vatican spot to grab lunch. It's about a 5 minute walk from the exit; and after a long tour, who wants to roam around (pun intended) looking for a decent place to get some food without having to go through the rigamarole of doing one of those multi-course sessions that Italians love so much (I like them, too, but after a 3-hour tour, I just want a quick bite). When we walked up to the deli (which is a way to describe this venue), one of the servers made sure to let us know that this place is only for sandwiches and salads. There is a good amount of seating inside, as well as a detached patio that is on the sidewalk. The Panini's are excellent, and the salad was very fresh. Given the proximity to the Vatican, as well as the comparatively subpar spots that are peppered around this neighborhood, I would highly recommend this place for a quick Panini and/or salad after a tour of the Holy City. read more

Hands down our favorite sandwich while in Roma! After a long day at the Vatican and having some not so good pizza in the museum, we were starving and I had been in Italy for a few days now and just really wanted a sandwich. We came across Duecento Gradi and saw that they had sandwiches so we decided to get a table. It was very modernly yet retro styled with red shiny stools and white high-top tables. We each spotted what we wanted and were eager to get our orders. We also ordered a glass of wine and a beer. My hubby got the Risorgimento which had salami, smoked cheese, sundried tomatoes, arugula or "rocket salad" as they call it and olive cream. He couldn't stop thinking about the sandwich...and probably still dreams about it now a few months later. My sandwich was priscuitto, arugula, cheese and some kind of spread and was salty, savory and perfect. We enjoyed the glass of wine and beer as well. When the bill came and I saw that my wine was 6 euro instead of the 4 euro I thought, I questioned the waitress and she had thought I asked for the 6 euro one (which I maybe did due to the language barrier) but to correct it she offered me a cup of coffee on the house which was very much appreciated. They use an eclectic range of fresh ingredients (the first thing you see showcased on entering), and the bread, which is produced specifically for this shop by a bakery, is served freshly pressed. Many of their sandwiches are named after famous Romans or areas in Rome. I went with the Augusto Imperatore--prosciutto, brie cheese, walnut sauce, and arugula--which I'm sure is what the emperor himself would have put on his panini. (Actually, no tomatoes means it's at least chronologically accurate.) It was so good that I regretted not being able to try the others. These panini are pressed thin, and offer the perfect snack without being overly filling. When traveling in Italy, I typically did a light breakfast, and then one main meal and one quick meal for either lunch or dinner. On the day you visit the Vatican, (assuming you're doing the same) I recommend grabbing your quick meal here, and then eating like a true emperor when you're back in Rome. Yes, it's in a super touristy area and it looks pretty commercial so it lacks that Italian charm but the panini are out of this world. The ingredients are plentiful and always fresh. We chose the Mortedella/Artichoke and the Mortedella/Eggplant which were both outstanding and surprisingly filling for what appeared to be an "under-stuffed" sandwich by American standards. If our stomachs could've been any roomier, we would've kept ordering because it was just that delicious! But even though we had finished devouring our food in no time, they kindly and quietly allowed us to linger as long as we wished.....which was quite some time considering we were tired from walking the Vatican City.
