Saw this spot on one of the Food shows and it turned out it was just steps from our hotel in Monti. Stand-up, no frills and mostly pizza. Not busy but steady traffic around 9:45 on a Tuesday evening. A good amount of Roman square pizza options. We got a slice of just about everything that was available. Potato/sausage (stood out as we hadn't had this before), Zucchini Pesto was delicious, Ham and classic Margherita also didn't disappoint. Crust was light/airy and made for the perfect balance between crust and toppings. Beer and soft drinks were also available. Service was quick and friendly. If in the Monti district, make this stop for reasonably priced traditional pizza al trancio. read more

Great little tiny place. Get in line, order your pizza, find a spot on the wall to eat or get it to go. Don't be shy or others will pass you by for their pizza and a spot to eat it. Super delicious and cheap quick bite. read more

Small and quaint, small seating area- name on the door that remains open during biz hours so keep a close eye out or you'll walk by. Grabbed a few diff slices of pizza and an Ice tea to go and walked down the block to a fountain to enjoy the pizza and our first taste of Rome after a long travel day! We had pizza with anchovies, margarita and mushroom. While I wish I could remember what I liked best the jetlag for the best of me. The prices were great I do remember and I'd go back again, grab some slices and go sit at the fountain to enjoy! If you're looking for a quick and easy focaccia to enjoy, La Boccacia has got your back! This was our first stop after flying into Rome and taking a little siesta in our Airbnb - we walked here and grabbed some slices (anchovy, mushroom, and various cheese). I just pointed to the slices I wanted, they were quickly warmed up, and the prices were very reasonable. We walked to the nearby fountain to eat them outside and had a nice first evening in Rome thanks to Yelp bringing us to this place and the wonderful people who run it. It's not really an indoor eating establishment, there are a few tables, but it's more of a quick-stop grab and go sort of place with excellent pies. Recommended! read more

We had our first meal here in Rome. The pizza was quite delicious. The pizza crust was very light and had an airy texture. A pizza slice is 3.50 Euro and it was a great price! The owner was very friendly and helpful with the pizza recommendations. We'll come back here again whenever we return to Rome. read more

Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Food was good: warm and fresh. The focaccia was warm, fluffy, and crunchy. A good balance. I am trying to remember if there was a menu, but we just pointed at the different pizzas that we wanted. My partner and I picked two pizzas, and decided to ask the waiter for a recommendation. He pointed to one with purple cabbage and prosciutto. Personally I was not fond of this one as it had a bitter taste. The cabbage gave a more moist texture than the other two pizzas we ordered, which was very different. However, it was a favorite for my partner. It was one of his favorite pizzas he had here due to how unique it was. The other two pizzas we had here was good. The best part of this place was that it was to-go! It's a little hard to find but worth it - the pizza here is incredible. The rest of my family ate two doors down because they were hangry, but I hung on and I'm so glad that I did. While they were getting ripped off and eating in a crummy back dining area with no ambience, I sat on the street and enjoyed excellent pizza served with some care. You need to look carefully for it, but this is a great spot to get pizza after an exhausting morning exploring the ancient sites. read more

Came here on a weekend afternoon, got some of the mushroom one as well as the tomato and mozz. There was also chili oil on the tables which made a big difference. The pizza was lightly toasted and actually hot for once, and the pizza was thin. Very delicious, would recommend, I love this spot! read more

We stayed near the Colosseum for our trip, and we had to try Roman pizza. We found this small, hole-in-the wall place and it surprised us in the best way possible. We would rate the pizza here a solid 5/5! The pizza was VERY FRESH, and they warm up your pizza for you when they slice it to your desire. The crust is nice and crispy, and personally I love a crispy and thin crust. Overall a solid place, and I wished we went back before we left Rome! read more

A very small shop off the beaten path but well worth the adventure in finding this place. Cash only and like all pizza in Rome, you pay based on weight. There were a ton of locals lined up so we got in line and followed their lead. My husband and I shared the potato pizza, the margherita pizza and the mushroom pizza. The best bite we had was the margherita but the mushroom came in at a close second. We shared 3 pieces and 2 cokes for 12 euros. Being a person who can take or leave pizza and who fails to comprehend the hype, La Boccaccio proved that I'd just never before had the right pizza. What's the right pizza? The kind that sings to your heart, apparently. When I first spotted La Boccaccio there was a short line snaking out the door. Understandable, since the place seats only about 6 people total and is mostly a to-go venue of already prepared pizzas. When I passed by again the line was gone and I walked in, praying that the pizza wouldn't be lukewarm. Lukewarm pizza was a trend in Italy, for pizzas not made to order. Point at your choice and the woman behind the counter will hover her cleaver above it, raising her eyebrows towards you as you indicate exactly the portion size you'ld like. Pizza here is sold by the weight and it's cheap. It's also placed in the pizza oven for a reheat once you select your piece; no lukewarm pizza here. Upon first visit I knew I'd found my pizza. I've had plenty of cracker-crust thin pizza before but this version just sang to me: A little salty, a bit crunchy, and nicely topped. I finally understood the hype. A couple of days later I was back for a little nosh (zucchini blossom pizza, excellent) and later that day, back again. 3 visits, 2 in one day, and my son refused to let me go back a third time on the day before departure. If the allure of pizza remains a mystery to you, La Boccaccio might just solve it. Great stuff, and one thing I really miss now that I'm no longer in Rome. read more

We had one of our better meals in Italy here. My son's filet was delicious and cooked perfectly. There was a mixup on my lamb chop order as they prepare it fried and grilled, I opted for grilled and chef brought an extra one that was fried so I could sample both. Very nice meals for all four of us, off the beaten track but worth it. Our server was excellent as well. read more

The slices are delicious, we tried many pizza places in Rome and this was definitely one of our two favorite spots! $2.50 per slice (which is a good size) and a really nice area around the place too, if you prefer to take to go! P.S. the margarita was my favorite and I can't remember what the other one was called but it had sausage & peppers and tasted amazing! read more

After having pizza in so many cities around Italy, this wasn't my favorite. I still really enjoyed the pizza, especially the spicy tomato, the ham and cheese, and the fresh mozzarella & tomato slices. Sadly didn't care for the funghi slice at all. The pizza is definitely better when it's a fresh sheet rather than sitting for a bit so I'd opt for those. It's hard though to beat the 2.50 euro per slice price point nor the quality for a really quick bite in order to get back to sightseeing. read more

A fantastic lunch spot close to the coliseum. It's cheap and has some great pizza. It's quite small so there's only counter seating and at lunch time can be very crowded. They have a quite a few options for pizza but know that they charge by weight for the pizza, on average 1.80 for every 100 grams= 3.5 ounces! That's a lot of pizza! Damn this place is cheap! We got ham and cheese and a mushroom "slices" and 2 bombers of Italian beer, and a fried rice ball stuffed with beef called "suppli" for .....12 euros!! Damn that's a great price! The guys behind the counter speak English and move very quickly. It's a bit overwhelming to see all the toppings but just dive in! Totally loved the food here...... I highly recommend anyone get their pizza here! read more

Came here for a quick and easy lunch before heading to the Colosseum (about a 5-8 min walk away). The pizza is sold by weight, so the cost depends on how big your slice is. The "typical" slice/weight they sell is about 2.50€ for one. They have many choices for individuals to choose from. The place is cash only though! :( Bummer! read more

Great pizza just behind our hotel. The space is quite small, only a couple of bar stools, one long counter and no tables. We came in just after 7pm, no one was around so we got to take our time picking what we wanted to try. All pizza's are weighed, warmed and served on a wooden tray all together. Drinks and 4 slices cost us about 13 euros. Really good pizza, crust is crunchy and addicting. This is a popular place, by the time we left the space was packed and a line was forming on the street. read more

Great place to stop by and try some different pizzas. They bake a bunch of different rectangular pies with various toppings and you just point to the ones you want, tell them the size, and they'll weigh it and heat it up for you. I had the mushroom and a sundried tomato, eggplant and sausage pizza and they were both delicious. The crust was nice and crunchy and the toppings paired well. read more

A well-rated, casual dining establishment we found using Google maps, to get here from the Coliseum took climbing up and down steps, but expect this in Rome. I mention this for those with mobility issues. The relatively short 20-minute or so walk was well worth it. We waltzed right in and eventually chose four different kinds for eight total slices--all for $17, including one drink. We, fortunately, snagged two seats in the limited-seating but charming eating area and nibbled on Roman pizza for the next half an hour. From the time we sat down to the time we paid and then walked out the door, the line was consistently out the door. Most seemed to take the pizza with them, especially since seating was limited I suppose and maybe there was an extra charge for dine-in. Not sure; verify this if needed. By the way: Neopolitan vs. Roman? Roman hands down-- especially here during my seventh visit to the Eternal City from SoCal USA. read more

Our first stop in Rome; PIZZA! I wanted to get out and about but my boyfriend was starving. Luckily we stumbled upon this little restaurant on the way to the Trevi Fountain. I was basic and went with Margherita slices while my BFF ordered some mushroom pizza. His was WAY better than mine! Don't be like me and be basic...branch out! Literally the best pizza I've ever had. And I'm a picky SOB! Slightly unusual for an Italian eatery, the rectangular slices are heavily loaded with first rate toppings, perfectly prepared. The mozzarella is fresh tasting and rich. The vegetables are high quality, ideal size and doneness. The meats are fine quality and abundant and taste like nonna would be jealous. But what will TRULY wow you is the most perfect crust ever. Crispy and crunchy without being overcooked and tender with just a little bit of chew. Not too thin but not thick either. And so flavorful! The taste was so good my hubby who always gives me his crust kept his and ate them. Great price, too. Go at the beginning of your time in Rome. Because you will want to back at least once. read more

Subjective: Ate here twice during our Rome stay - once for lunch, once for a quick dinner. We tried the spicy tomato and the ham/cheese pizzas. Objective: small take-out place less than a minute from the Cavour station in Monti. Bar stool seating for about 5-6 people. Priced by weight - they had at least 5-6 different varieties each time that we went and were constantly bringing out freshly baked pies. English friendly. Excellent pizza and sandwiches for a great price. This is the first restaurant in Rome that I love. Most restaurants by tourist spots are not good and would not rate one star on yelp. Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

It was so good. The Napoli pizza was okay but probably wouldn't order it next time. The tiramisu was so good. Definitely very different than what I'm used to. It was so creamy and thicker but it melts in your mouth. The reason why I took off one star was because of the service. The servers were so rude. They were very short when I asked them something about the menu. Besides that, food was tasty.

They will adjust even without you having to ask. I ordered the artichoke as an appetizer which was very good, I recommend getting this if they are in season. I also ordered the carbonara, and it was by far the best I had while in Rome perfectly creamy, rich, and full of flavor without being too heavy. You can really tell they focus on doing the classics right. What stood out beyond the food was how efficiently the staff operated. Despite how busy the restaurant gets, they move quickly and keep everything running smoothly, which made the whole experience even better. Overall, this is a must-visit spot if you're in Rome. Expect a wait, but it's 100% worth it for the quality of the food and service.
