What arguably is considered located within a "Tourist Trap" district, simply due to the level of…read moretourism and the proliferation of shops that sell various forms of "I've visited" or "I've been there" merchandise that shouts out the location when worn, is Malee's of Newport, RI. Actually not sure the spelling used on Yelp is accurate, but this will not be confused with some competing location of similar name. My credit card listed this shop as "MALEE' INTERNATIONAL", so with an apostrophe after the last "e", but no "s". Frankly, I think it is not an apostrophe, but rather the French accent aigu! In any case, of all the touristy merchandise available in and around d Newport, this shop had as wide and as varied a collection as any. In looking for something that would fit my ideal of a baseball-style cap, the shopkeeper was helpful in finding just what I was searching for, which started with color and badging, but also had the sort of rear adaptive sizing closure I wanted, which was NOT with Velcro, but with a moveable clasp. It is also high-quality 100% cotton and handmade by DPC. You be the judge, as I offer to you here the photographic evidence of my purchase. Even if this is would not be your choice, there is a wide selection in this shop and it is one to stop in when looking for this type of souvenir in Newport.

Wonderful little shop! Purchase myself a new hat from them every time I visit the area.read more

I visited the Jamaica Plain shop today with my brother, on what happened to be the 27th anniversary of my father's passing. What could have been a heavy, emotional day was transformed into something unexpectedly meaningful, thanks in large part to the experience I had with Jessen. He spent well over an hour with me, patiently walking through countless combinations of styles, shapes, and colors -- not rushing, not upselling, just exploring what really worked. He was thoughtful, kind, and extraordinarily knowledgeable, and it was clear he genuinely enjoyed the process of helping me find the right hat. That enthusiasm was contagious; time absolutely flew by. I left with a beautiful hat and a matching scarf, each with its own story -- down to where the wool came from and how it was made. That level of care and passion isn't something you can fake. It's obvious that Jessen and Andria care deeply about their craft, their customers, and the experience they create in the shop. This was, without question, the best experience I've ever had in a hat store. The selection is fantastic, but it's the heart, expertise, and hospitality that make Salmagundi truly special. If you're anywhere near Boston and even thinking about a hat, do yourself a favor and go see Andria and Jessen. I can't recommend this place highly enough.
