I am currently in a situation where i need a wig but my insurance is UnitedHealth Care and they only have one option for in network for real hair wigs in New York. I live in northeast CT. What can I say except thank you? Cathy is extraordinary. I had visited several other shops, and the care that Cathy gave was exceptional. She stayed late to meet me, she gave detailed explanations of the different wig types, understood the challenges, and made the experience fun. She is an artist who picked out the perfect wig for me - first try. But she made sure it was right, and we tried on many others, for fun and fit. When first diagnosed with cancer and finding out your hair would fall out panic sets in. I looked closer to home and met with an uncomfortable attitude ...'don't worry, you'll figure it out and you'll get used to it'. I searched on line and read every review I could find. Alicia's caught my eye. I made an appointment immediately so they could see what my hair looked like before it disappeared. I drove from out of state and was met by a lovely woman who wasn't talking about wigs, but instead wanted to know how I felt, what my concerns were and what I was hoping for. This shop is all about hope and acceptance. Cathy spent as much time and as many appointments as I needed. at that time there were not many shades of red in wigs and it was difficult to come even close to matching my natural hair, which was a brownish red with some curl. She finally did it after a lot of searching. The wig came in and Cathy cut it to match my previous hair style. Five months ago I was faced with re-diagnosis. The previous chemo left me with an odd shade of grey hair in both cool and warm tones that is whispy and as straight as can be. I went back to Alicia's and we started over again. I now go to work every day in a wig that matches my hair from the day I went back to her shop. Most of my co-workers have no idea is a wig and a lot of people ask what salon I have my hair done in. Mom and I went here recently (like Tuesday or Monday,) just before chemo. The owner Cathleen Leite greeted us and asked us to look at some head coverings she had in the front of the salon as she finished helping another customer. Once the client was gone she asked Mom what she needed and directed us to a small private room with wigs hanging orderly on the wall. She talked to my Mom about what my Mother would possibly like, what kind of wigs there were to be purchased and what they were made of and their good and bad points. This woman was knowledgable! She is a little powerhouse and she is very chatty but nice and down to Earth. As my Mom was trying on wigs and being informed of the different head coverings that may go under a wig (like netting, a cotton cap or a nylon stocking,) I saw an article that showed Cathleen without hair.
