This place is SO COOL!! My fiancé and I love stopping by regularly to see what's new in store. The guys here are the absolute coolest and have been so helpful, and the amount of awesome merch crammed into this place is INSANE. From board games and their accessories to giant superhero statues, they have it all. We've purchased almost all of our comic books here, several Pokémon and One Piece cards/packs, plushies, and a few figures from them. Their layaway plan is super reasonable and made it possible for us to bring home one of our largest figures, J. Scott Campbell's Alice, to date. Some of the nicest and most helpful people in the biz! I have picked up several 9.0+ comics there for my collection and it has always been a great experience. They are probably some of the most knowledgeable people in the comic book hobby too. First time coming here with my kids. We are on a mission for teenage mutant ninja turtles items. They had a small collection of turtles, but huge collection of comics and other figures. Definitely recommend swinging by to take a look. You can spend some time in here. A lot of life sized characters. If you got the money, you should come on down. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Lots and lots of product! Honestly. Mostly DC-Marvel. Very few indie books. One of the few shops in town with a real collection of back issues. No searchable database though. Voluntary mask protocol, but they want you to sanitise your hands before riffling thru the back issues. So i'm shopping, full makeup - hair- female clothing and a mask- a belly shirt and pierced navel showing above my very cute shoes. The roving clerks were nice enough. The clerks behind the counter however were bemoaning "the cowboys " and decided to mid- gender me by using the wrong pronouns repeatedly. i didn't make a fuss, cause "cowboy gun-nut fans" is a real thing. i went to HEB right after cause i'm on a shopping spree and all i got there was: " hello Ma'am - Thank you Ma'am - Have a nice day Ma'am ". Perhaps the HR department at AW can look into this matter? we can try again later. read more

When I go into a comic shop I want to dig in peace. If I have questions I will go to the counter and ask. There are a lot of staff members here and they all walk around asking if you need help. Sometimes multiple times during the same visit. So every employee in the place will eventually come over to me and ask if I need help over and over again. Sometimes I just walk out. This place has a decent size back issue bin selection and they probably make most of there sales revenue from these back issues. I feel the prices are also too high probably to cover the cost of all the employees. Other than that the shop is clean and organized. Too clean to organized, so there are no treasures to find hidden in some dusty box. The owner, Jerry, became obessed with Marvel comics around the age of nine and started religiously collecting anything superhero related, with Hulk and Spiderman as his all-time favorites. But you have to think this is a smaller business, who's also trying to survive. - they have a nice and clean store with things that are very organized. Been here quite a few times to look at what they had - don't think I've never walked away without purchasing something they were selling. I found my Darryl Dixon bobblehead here for about 12 bucks. Not bad, eh? Most recently, I had a friend's birthday come up and him being a die hard original Star Trek fan, I came straight here to see what was available. Can you believe I managed to find a Captain Kirk Mego figure from '74? Still in its package too! And my friend was quite impressed with what I unearthed - he was unbelievably grateful. I definitely appreciate the trouble they go to in order to keep it well organized and that the employees don't feel like you're bothering them with any questions you may have. read more

I have known Jerry Kimball since I was 10 years old. I think that he runs a fair show and when you're dealing with him directly, he gives the best he can to his customers. When selling to him, if you have a common item that he has several of, and Jerry has a lot of stuff, just understand that he can't always buy something that he already has and knows he cannot sell promptly. read more

As a nerd culture shop, Alien Worlds is great. They've got a ton of interesting memorabilia, and a pretty solid board game selection. They have some events, but they're generally not super organized or well-attended. All in all, it's a nice shop. Bottom Line: I'll be back if I'm looking for a board game that day. read more

All I know is Alien Worlds carries Glamourpuss...a comic that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. They also usually have Settlers of Catan game sets (if you liked the Oregon Trail computer game growing up you will like this game), or you can order through them, along with the Seafarers expansion kit....for those of us with a nerd side. read more

So after a bad experience at another comic book/collector store I was really pleased with Alien Worlds. This place is filled with all kinds of neat stuff. Lots of toys, trading cards, and of course comic books galore. They have a lot of older comic books from my childhood. Ok they were labeled vintage. My childhood is now vintage lol. The customer service totally made up for that dilemma. They literally took me to everything I inquired about and gave me suggestions on a gift I was trying to figure out. All while keeping the husband out of my hair. He was occupied with watching some kind of card game going on. At the time we went this place was filled with tables of models and card games going on. This place is also really organized and that is always a pleasant surprise.We had so much fun just browsing through everything and it being in plain sight. read more

(As a matter of full disclosure I posted this same review to Google.) Moved to San Antonio at the end of April. Found this place nearby. Really an excellent shop with all your major comic buying needs. Plentiful back issue selection (essential for any good comic store) and many TPBs and all very well organized. Current issues are all mainstream stuff from the majors (Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, IDW, Boom). If I had one suggestion, take a chance with a few smaller indie publishers like Alterna and definitely carry more manga. Overall, this place has everything regular readers need. Honestly I didn't really talk to the staff but everyone was pleasant and professional. Actually there is one girl there that's so sugary you'll get diabetes just looking at her. You'll know her when you see her. Keep up the excellent work, m'dear. ;) Also, and this is just me, but I love walking into a place and hearing hard rock and heavy metal playing on the stereo. When it comes to a balance between new comics, back issues and TPBs, in conjunction with good customer service in San Antonio, it is hard to beat this shop. It doesn't have the largest selection in town in regards to any of those categories, but it does win out on a few points. It is a jack of all trades, master of none, but steady, consistent and reliable. All much like an old friend. The small space means limited selections, but it wins on a few fronts. The back issues beat Dragon's Lair for quantities, but falls short of Heroes and Fantasie's sheer volume. The collectibles are in the same boat. I'm not a gamer, so I can't really speak to that. So, for a decent selection along with good customer service, this store has a balance I can respect, and is becoming one of my more frequented shops. read more

I love coming here when I visit San Antonio as they have one of the best Pop selections out there. They have Pop figures that I haven't been able to find anywhere else and they are not marked up in price at all. They have a good selection of other merchandise like figurines, knick knacks, novelty items, and NECA toys. They are of course a comic shop and while I see plenty of comics I cannot comment on them as I am not knowledgeable on the subject. Either way, give these guys a shot. They have Funkos mostly commons and comics at fair prices..trading cards and a changing host of collectibles new and used .. seldom I find what I want and service is just ok ... I stop by at least 1 a month and look for Funkos with little luck..they buy some collectibles and may have what u want if you can get too the items past all the card playing going on. read more

So I have been into Alien Worlds a few times and most of the time was only just to look. So I recently started getting into Magic and took a trip to Alien Worlds to get some info on FNM and Pre-releases. The staff was extremely helpful and eager just to speak with me. It definitely made me feel at home and made me want to attend a FNM or Pre-release event even more. It was completely opposite of the other known shop here in town HaF. The staff definitely made me feel comfortable. Will be attending a Pre-release next week and cannot be happier I chose Alien Worlds vs the rest. read more

This is my type of shop. Good selection of comics, awesome selection of action figures and super cool employees. Although Heroes & Fantasies is massive, I feel that I always find the best gems at Alien Worlds. For instance, I'd been looking for some Borderlands comics everywhere and this place had almost the entire set. This location also stocks a large amount of GOW figures which are really hard to find after the initial hype of the game release. Alien Worlds also hosts card games on the weekends so I'd recommend stopping by on a weekday to enjoy the store without feeling crowded. read more

Solid store with a ton of stuff in it. You can get lost looking through all the old (80s, 90s, 00s) toys. There is a decent amount of vintage comics, a ton of modern comics. Seems like there is always some sort of tabletop gaming going on. Also the only place I've found in SA that deals (buys and sells) vintage toys/action figures. They're prices vary from really reasonable to ridiculous. But at least they offer them. Beyond that, they've got a pretty good modern action figure collection and a TON of HotToys etc. ALSO - they offer a military discount which is awesome! read more

The owner and staff are very friendly, helpful, and patient when you take time to browse through their older comics. The also have a gaming area for hero clix, and they sell clix and magic cards. Decent shop with a selection of unique board games, graphic novels, new comics, miniatures, and magic cards. The store is clean and organized, but it can feel tight or crowded. They do have some tables for play but I didn't see a schedule or any indication of what kinds of games are held (I did see some folks playing a table top miniature game and possibly a Friday night magic sign). The employees greeted us when we came in and we were asked if we needed help once more, which was adequate. I watched a young boy playing with a figure on display (very gently, barely touching it, just making noises), and while I am sure an employee was watching no one asked him to stop and as a parent I really appreciate that. I mean displays at child height are being to be touched but so often comic book/gaming stores are pretty upfront that children should not touch anything or are even discouraged from entering. They always have the newest comics and a ton of old comics as well. I love looking at their Pop wall and all their figures as well as toys and collectibles. This comic book store is pretty good. I feel like it needs a bit more selection for graphic novels, but I understand that the space is dedicated to other types of items like collectible figures and toys. As far as comics go, I believe the store is reasonably priced for some back issues but over priced in some other titles. For example, some of the back issues had some spine/cover damage but they were over priced by a couple of dollars. This is typically done among comic book stores, but Alien Worlds did it the least in my opinion. Overall the place is definitely worth exploring for anyone into comics or getting into them. read more

The selection there is big. They have tables and shells for this month in comics and last months, but also a lot of back issues in boxes everywhere. Not only do they have comics but a fair amount of cards, board games and collectable figurines/statues. The staff is talkative and friendly. Overall a really good spot to browse for comics. This comic book store screams 80s comic book store. There is so much stuff crammed everywhere it's hard to see what they have. The silver age/older comics are just sitting in stacks up by the front and it's really awkward trying to look at them. That's my biggest complaint. They had a decent selection of new comics, toys, and collectibles. read more
