Let me begin by mentioning that I was directed to this location by a person I know. They therefore most likely had a different experience than I did. I've never had a poorer encounter with a healthcare professional than this one. Before attending my first session, I gave the staff a call to confirm that my insurance would pay for the treatments and that my only out-of-pocket expense would be my thirty-five dollar copay. I did this because my BCBS carve-out plan limits my usage to specific in network locations. I believe it is called blue high performance network. They claimed to have confirmed by phone. So I first went in for a diagnosis and course of therapy. Dr Gerstin suggested a 7 visit plan, and After giving me the plan, they requested upfront payment for all 7 treatments. Red flag number 1. I decided to leave and come back on a different day for my second treatment. After this therapy, Gerstein started acting very aggressive toward me and tried to coerce me into paying for all seven sessions at once. Both the staff and the patients witnessed all of this. Super uncomfortable experience. I felt as though I was in a used car dealership. I informed Dr. Gerstein that the next time I visited, I would cover the cost of all seven treatments, I just wanted to get out of there and was embarrassed. I knew that I would not, in fact, be returning. By the way I paid my co pay after each treatment. A few months later, I get a bill from them saying that I owe more than $700 because my insurance did not cover the three visits. It baffled me so much that I contacted them for clarification, They informed me that my carve out plan did not cover their office. And they were in fact not in network for my plan like they previously told me For months, I went back and forth between the office and my insurance company. Eventually I asked my insurance company to review the tape of the call Align wellness made. If the insurance company screwed up I would take it up with them. After reviewing the call that Align's personnel had made to them, my insurance provider, with whom I spoke, confirmed that the office had just inquired as to whether I had BCBS insurance. The staff did not ask them if Align wellness was covered by my carve out plan. The staff should have know known this was a carve-out plan and that only specific offices are covered if they had looked at my insurance card. You would think you would know if you were part of the blue high performance network after seeing it right on the insurance card I provided. More back and forth as the months pass. I proposed that we divide the difference between the amount they charged me which was reduced to the cash price of 400 dollars and what I should have paid if I had only paid my copay. However, Dr. Gerstein requested the whole sum and gave me the FU pay me response or I would go to collection. So no choice to pay the bully his money and move on with my life. I don't know if this guy is a good chiropractor or not but the fact that he pressures his clients the way he does for money is totally not acceptable What would have happened if I continued with my treatment for 7 sessions? My bill would have been thousands of dollars. Hopefully they learn from my experience and double check that the carve out plans are in network before they see a patient. read more

It was never made clear to me whether the amount of time I received in chiropractic, traction, and roller bed and stim were dictated by what my insurance covered, or decided by the practitioner as being right for me. My average visit was approximately 5 minutes of chiro adjustment, 8 mins of traction (only half the time), and 8 minutes of stim/roller bed. After my approx. 12th visit, gl referral paid from my L5S1 injury exploded with additional pain and promoted my to seek arthroscopic surgery as the pain is no longer tolerable. Communications (this is my experience) between staff was cordial and warm, but communications about progress & treatment were relegated to less than 8 mins. Cannot recommend! read more

I've had adjustments all my life. I am fine with that. The rest of the treatments ended up hurting me as I was doing something that caused my spinal stenosis to be extremely aggravated. They x-rayed and never said anything about that, just that my spine and neck needed more curvature. Currently getting physical therapy at IBJI. They took X-rays too and turns out I needed to not be arching my spine which caused compression and extreme pain. I am doing exercises the opposite way. I am now not planning on ever going to a chiropractor again read more

The treatment they offer is great. However, when Dr Gerstin informed me that he'd like to see me three times per week for treatment, and i couldn't abide due to work and home obligations, he became rude to me. At that point, he became a bully, and shunned me and told me to go back to my old chiropractor. While i was getting my massage that day he came into the room and told the massage therapist that i was no longer allowed in their facility. This is not a good way to treat a paying customer, and i felt bullied, and uncomfortable in their office at this point. read more

I saw Dr. Gerstein regarding a lower back issue. At the time I was uninsured. He told me that the care I would receive there would be affordable. The first visit was. I saw him one more time after that. I then had to go back home (another state). My invoice for a a normally $50 treatment was $130. I was charged an exorbitant amount. One of those charges was $15 dollars for laying an ice pack on my back for ten minutes. I did not buy the ice pack just used it. His other charges were also out of line. I have seen many doctors in the past and never had an issue like this. I would not trust this Doctor. This is the second negative review I have ever written. read more

I was bed ridden for two days because I couldn't even get up. made my way over to align ...and the first thing they do is take x-rays and a picture to show me how bad my posture was. (First red flag) Keep in mind, I could barely walk, couldn't put pressure on my left leg, couldn't bend down, and couldn't even stand upright...No S*** my posture was horrible. Then I got the schpeel that they aren't about the money, blah blah blah (second red flag).Went 2 times in all, and all they did was hand me an icepack for 20 min and told me to lay down. As if the "service" wasn't bad enough, I'm still getting random bills even though I had already paid for the x-rays and 2 visits (so much for not being about the money, am I right?). Last time I spoke to them, I cancelled all future appointments and paid off the balance. I brought the folder they gave me at Align to my next Chiro- as reference thinking it would be a good idea to share whatever info I already had...when they saw the "treatment plan" and the cost associated with everything, they all started laughing and told me Align was charging more than 3x. Pretty much became a running joke at that office...says a lot doesn't it? So yeah, all around horrible- if it was possible, I'd leave a 0 stars. read more

I came here in the spring of 2019 after seeing a special they were running on Facebook so I decided to check them out. It was pretty convenient since they were located in Northbrook not far from where I was working at the time in Glenview. I'm going to be honest the introductory treatment consisted of the standard assessment of posture, x-rays, and then you came back for the results of findings. They had me laying on a table with an ice pack for about 10 minutes which didn't really do anything. I was not surprised when I was handed a document with the charges for nearly $400 for a series of treatments according to my unique treatment plan and I felt pressured to start that day. As a patient I should be able to sleep on it. What they wanted was to pre pay for appointments I had not even scheduled yet. I also asked the receptionist to verify insurance to see if treatment was covered. All I got was the run around. I decided that I'm going to look elsewhere because now that I was diagnosed with painful bone spurs (plantar fasciitis) in both feet I need to seek treatment without the high pressure sales tactic. read more

I was a patient a number of years ago and still have bad memories of my experience. It seemed like Dr. Gerstein practiced voodoo as opposed to providing a legitimate medical service. He made me hold some supplements and due to the supposed strength it gave me, he diagnosed me with a hiatal hernia and sold me a really expensive bottle of hydrochloric acid. The acid tore my stomach up, and I ended up getting an upper endoscopy done only to find out that I did not have a hiatal hernia, but just plain old GERD. Through my own research I found that Digestive Enzymes were far easier on the gut and produced far better results than anything Dr. G sold me. I was given a promotion from my work to get an exam and consultation by a doctor along with a 25 minute massage. The deal for the promotion was $25 which was paid on my first visit. I was told I had to return the next day in order to go over the x-rays and follow up with my results and at that time I would get the massage. I did meet with the doctor the next day to go over the results. The doctor talked me into signing up for daily visits, which on my way home I called to cancel. After we went over the results they told me the massage would be scheduled for another visit. On my way home I called back to cancel the service and canceled my appointment for the next week. A few months went by and they gave me a call and said I had a balance of $114 for my second visit. I told them this was not correct because I used a special promotion that covered the services that were given to me. I did go ahead and pay the bill as I was fearing it would effect my credit. I was very upset with this place as they disregarded their own promotional coupon and made me pay for the services for the next days visit (which was a mandatory visit that they said I HAD to come back for in order to see my results). It ended up taking 4 month of visits 2-3 times a week, $1500 from my own pocket, not even counting insurance (and I have BCBS PPO!), and I started feeling much worse than I did originally. When I first came, Dr Gerstin sounded confident about his treatment plan, and estimated only $500 to be paid out of my pocket. Only a month after I already left Align Wellness Center in disappointment, they re-sent me the modified bill, and so I found out I owed another $1000. The explanation was just "sorry, but it is what it is - you have to pay". I asked for at least some "courtesy discount" given the situation, but -no. Not even that. Thanks God, after all this hell, another doctor made me fully recover in 2 months with nearly everything covered by insurance. From this other doctor, I also found out that the treatment I was undergoing was actually harmful for me given my secondary health conditions, and that's why I could not recover, and was suffering more and more. I have a feeling that Dr Gerstin cares only about his income, and not for his patients. I am also getting tons of mail from Align, promoting their services. What a shame! A good doctor would not need this. A happy patient would be your best ad. read more

I went to see Dr. Gerstin after a slip & fall injury in which I hurt my shoulder. He was extremely thorough and gentle. He did a comprehensive examination, and developed an excellent treatment plan. He performed some therapy right away, which brought immediate relief. They were also very willing to work with insurance. Dr. Gerstin is a great listener, extremely knowledgeable and gentle. Between the massages with Ruby who is EXTREMELY attentive to your needs to Dr. Gerstin who is always catering the adjustments to your needs on that particular day, I have been really satisfied with the care I have received. I have been long overdue to see a chiropractor. When they paid us a visit at my job, they were offering free 5 minute massages. And those who were interested were able to get a free evaluation at their office. I decided to go see what was wrong with my back since I've been having back pain and tingling and numbess in my legs and arms when I wake up almost every morning. After I scheduled an appointment to see them, I got an email from them asking if I want to fill out the paperwork before arriving for my appointment to save time for both of us. A very convenient option I must say. After going for my evaluation appointments, I was glad to find out that they were able to help me with the pain and overall health. After the first couple of weeks of adjustments, I was no longer feeling tingling and numbness in my legs or arms. As the weeks passed, I no longer felt the need to 'crack my back.' My continued visits have been improving my overall health. But sadly, I have not been able to make any appointments for the last month because of an overload of work. But with my work situation now improving, I'm hoping to go back in the next week or so. I can't wait! read more

Had a couple of good massages here, but tried out Dr. Gerstein for chiropractic and I'll never be going back. I had bronchitis and developed a knot in my upper right shoulder which I couldn't get out for the life of me so I decided to try to check out Align to see what they could do. The initial "exam" administered by Dr. Gerstein consisted of rolling some kind of wheel across different parts of my body, followed by the doctor placing his hands on my shoulders to see if one was higher than the other.. REALLY SCIENTIFIC STUFF. This exam cost me about 200 bucks and the kind doctor tried to push me onto a program of two weekly massages and a weekly chiropractic "adjustment." The adjustment being a couple of cracks in my back and other joints and calling it a day. This program would cost me about 400 bucks a month for a suggested 6 to 8 months, with complimentary emails twice a week reminding me to bring in a friend for a free first exam. Don't get me wrong, Dr. Gerstein is a really pleasant fellow.. just as long as your wallet is within reach. read more

Morton Grove, IL I was referred to Dr. Gerstin by a specialist at the Illinois Bone and Joint who said that he had sent patients to Dr. Gerstin and worked with him successfully in the past. I have had a severe and persistent pain disorder for the past forty years. It is made up of fibromyalgia, TMJ and something called burning mouth syndrome. Needless to say over the years, I have seen countless dentists, oral surgeons, chiropractors, naprapaths, osteopaths, massage therapists, and doctors in every specialty and no one was able to help me. When my husband and I had our first consultation with Dr. Gerstin the first thing I noticed about him was that he seemed to be very caring and that he listened. He also made eye-contact with me which is also rare because so many of the doctors that I had seen are busy typing on their computers and you just see the back of their heads during your appointment. After hearing about my problems he didn't promise anything. He said that he thought he could help me, but sadly there couldn't be any guarantees. We set up a treatment schedule and surprisingly payment was almost an aside. He seemed focused on helping me get better and to relieve my pain.
