It was ten minutes past seven and I was looking for a hair stylist to cut my three old sons hair. We've always gone to kid snips but my kid is petrified of the chair and will not get a haircut unless I hold him in my lap. I ruined two shirts from his haircuts because I couldn't get the hair out so I wanted to try something new. I found Ali's on Devon on the way to my moms house. Even at seven pm, the place was popping with men! I couldn't believe how many men were waiting to get a haircut at that hour but that should serve as a testament of how busy they are! Anyways, I parked my car and went inside to ask if they would be willing to cut my sons hair and they said no problem. I sat down to wait for someone to take him when I saw a police car pull up in front of the shop, apparently I had parked on a bus zone and so I went outside to repark. There was a member of the staff from Ali's outside coming back from getting something to drink and he reminded me that I needed to park a lot further to be away from the bus zone. I was really appreciative of his advice and did as he suggested. Once I got inside, the same person who advised me about the parking situation ended up also cutting my sons hair. To my surprise, my kid did not throw a tantrum, he did not cry and he wasn't even upset to sit by himself. I think it's maybe because he saw there were other men there and he didn't went to make a scene out of respect. Either way, I put my iPhone on for him and he was quiet but once the blades came out, he moved around a little bit. I didn't went my kiddo to get cut and bleed because of his jolting so I offered to hold his head down which really helped the hair stylist Omar. Omar was so patient and kind with my kid, I could see that he has had his fair share of experience working with kids! The haircut itself didn't take longer than 20 minutes but he did a good job and I was extra happy because no shirts of mine were destroyed! The only reason I am giving four stars is because this place could use a good deep cleaning. I could tell they maintain the order once every customer is done with their haircut and they sweep but there is definitely a need for a deep scrub on the surface and floors along with organization of where material is stored. I think it would make the salon glisten and definitely appeal to more customers! read more

I love the uncle from Pakistan, but I can't go to him anymore. Everyone else cuts hair here great but the uncle with the long grey beard honestly feels like it's a coin toss when getting your hair cut. Like you're either going to get a decent fade. Or he's going to mess your hair up completely and not fade properly and section your hair right at all. There's a new barber on the opposite side of where all the other barbers cut hair at. And honestly, he's the go to guy, he'll give you the best haircut without the ego and questions. The service overall is good. I just think like, you'd like to have barbers that remember to give a haircuts suited to men in their 20s. I've had people ask me so many times in one week who messed your hair up. Hi. I went there for my kids haircut.firstly he harassed my kid for asking to further cutting saying why he did not tell earlier but he had just finished cutting and my kid was just looking in the mirror to get the look which he thought he needed more trimming and then he scratched my kids head with the trimmer which resulted in blood flow.when I asked the hair stylist about the incident then the he harassed me saying I was creating a scene as if blood has started flowing on floor.he was rude and loud. I had asked for a shaping of my beard and my mustache after 2 months of growth. I told the barber (older gentleman) to not even touch the mustache and to not trim the beard, just shape the neck line and the cheek of the beard. He trimmed my beard, brought up my neck line, and cut my mustache - all while telling me it looks good. I don't care what you think looks good - I asked for a shape up. I walked out with a nicked mustache. Please, please please don't get your beard cut here unless you're prepared to lose months of growth and get whatever the barber feels like cutting that day. I wish someone had told me and I would have waited to go to another shop in the city. read more

This place is nice. Firs, I am.not a regular here. He took his time to understand the kind of haircut I wanted. He did not seem to be in a rush (believe me sometimes some barbers make you feel they are in a hurry). I like the fact they use the razor. This place is clean even the bathrooms - you don't get the "hair all over places" feeling that you get at most barber shops. I will be back if needed. read more

3.5 Stars Ali's Hair Stylist was the first threading salon I saw when I hopped off the bus at Devon and Oakley. I convinced my boyfriend to go first. While he was having his eyebrows threaded, I had henna tattooed on both of my hands. A simple henna design starts at $5 per hand, and more intricate designs start at $10. Overall, the designs were nice. (I didn't ask for any design for particular, as I like to leave it up to the artist.) Some of the finer details were smudged, which isn't pretty. His eyebrows have never looked better. The stylist kept his natural shape. Whereas, I didn't want much hair removed, just shaped. I ended up with thinner eyebrows (more feminine I suppose). I rather have more "prominent" brows that balance out my long face and high cheekbones. Regardless, I am convinced that threading is the best way to remove eyebrow hair. It's quick, slightly painless, and it doesn't cause breakouts or red bumps. If you have a unibrowed boyfriend or husband, lure them to Devon for Indian food and have their hairy overgrowths fixed here. Did I mention it's only $5? read more

It was very bad experience to visit this place. I am not sure who was that guy looks like an owner with french beard. Me : I told him to make some new hair style which looks good thinking about there name as it says Ali hair "STYLISH" Ali : With full attitude should I do Bald ( are you serious that's the new hair style ) that will look good . Me : cut my hair medium After 2 mins he said I am almost done WHAT ? Me : Its same bro do a little more Ali : Started shouting, How much you want me to cut ? 1 inch 2 inch. He want me to measure my hair. Me : 2 inch shorter Ali : Then with his all anger he cut my hair with in 2 min, As if he was paying me . In-short its one of the worst customer service. I told to my whole apartment what happened with me and they where flabbergasted. Might be they also stop going to this place. I don't recommend this place don't go and waste your money for 5 min he charge me $10 :( I would give them 0 Star. Learn manners how to interact with people then open your COBBLER Shop. I have mixed feelings about this place. They do the job just fine and staff is very friendly but my hair cut takes 5 minutes and I could have anyone do same job for $5+tip vs. their $15+tip. I have seen better jobs on eyebrows threading for the same price they charge. If you want to support a family owned and runned business, then go here otherwise a 2-3 blocks walk has better options. read more

This place has been around for as long as I can remember. It has gotten much better over the years. They do a great job with eyebrow threadings and hair cuts. Their rates are really cheap. However, they always seem to be buys and you might have to wait a while before it is your turn. They do not take appointments. read more

I came yesterday had hair down till my back, almost below my waist (took 3 years to grow) and I came here asking for a trim. A TRIM. I even showed with my hands where the cut should be. I got this Hispanic or European (definitely not a Desi, Pakistani or Indian) looking lady, and she destroyed my hair. She cut off 6 inches on a big strand and said is this okay? I was furious, what else can I do and get that same 6 inches all around? Now my hair is down by my chest area. This haircutter lady was so bitter, she was like pushing my head while cutting my hair and kept showing attitude. She wasn't even listening to me from the beginning, I said 10 times to her in beginning, please trim and that i DONT want it short, and showed her with my hands where the cut should be, but she just kept doing whatever she wanted. She even said to me "no, your hair is no good." But its not her decision to make what haircut she wants for me. She even went on the phone in the middle of cutting my hair at the same time, then the hairbrush fell on the ground and she picked it up and brushed my hair right with it. She was so bitter and didn't care one bit about what her customer wanted. It seemed like she was taking her personal issues out on my hair. I actually had to stop her from cutting my hair by the time I thought it was all evened out, I literally said, "okay thats enough, I am done" and I got up and she kept trying to stop me from leaving and saying "I have to do more." How can management even hire such a person? It was so wrong how she acted towards me, not even just professionally, but as a human being. I am traumatized, cant believe such people exist and this could even happen at a salon. She even tried talking back to me saying its not her fault and that i told her to do this, she had such major internal issues and shouldn't be allowed to touch peoples hair. I really like this place. I got my eyebrows threaded by a real specialist, Ms. Fozia and highly recommend everybody to get it done by her. I have never gotten my eyebrows done like this before. I have tired so many places in chicago but she is the one who knows what she is doing. It's also quite reasonably priced. Now, I get complements on my eyebrows all the time. The staffs are quite friendly..They do eyebrows quite well and try to keep the natural shape..the price is very reasonable..I just hope that they did a better job with haircut....they do very basic haircut....so all in all a good experience...:) read more
