I don't understand why the negative reviews. Doctor Slack saw me during my last pregnancy. She was kind, courteous, listened to my concerns and answered any questions that I had. She was quick to write any referrals that I needed and was extremely on top of things when it came to my care. I knew she read all of my medical history because if something as relevant to what I was experiencing , she would automatically inform me whether certain treatments were counterproductive to my care. Whenever I went to L&D and they called her she would make sure I received the care I needed and would always address the hospital visit with me at my next appointment. Dr Slack is filling in for my GP while she is on vacation this month, November. I told her I was there because I couldn't breathe and my lung capacity had shrunk by a third (according to my breath thing, spectrometer ?) . COPD? She wanted me to go to the hospital and get a CT scan before she decided I had COPD and prescribed medication after listening to my lungs and taking my blood pressure. CT Scan done and I head for home. She called me and explained the bottom quarter of both lungs were full of blood clots and a couple of arteries might need to be cleaned out. Go directly to the ER and everything was ready for me when I got there. The hospital told me to have a follow up appointment with my doctor in a month. I thought that wasn't soon enough. The day after I got home from my hospital stay she called and made an appointment to see me in one week. I must say she impressed me. Her bedside manner is great, she listened and asked questions. She actually saved my life because my blood pressure skyrocketed in the hospital to crisis. (Dr asked if I wanted to be resuscitated). Anyway, Dr Slack is a KEEPER in my 76 year old book. I am not the type of person to leave reviews, actually don't think i ever have so for me to make this says a lot. I am a young first time mom and from the start, I didn't think me and Slack were going to be a good fit but I chose to stick it out since she was kind and trying to get into a new doctor was difficult. I am a very low maintenance person as well as patient so throughout my pregnancy I never complained to much but whenever I did have a concern, it was dismissed or laughed at. Fast forward to labor and delivery. My water broke around 9pm and the 21st, and I did not deliver until 9:45pm the next night. Let me just say, all of my nurses were AMAZING. From triage to labor, I loved every nurse I had and Ashley specifically literally got me through the end. Once things started to progress, my baby's heart rate started to go up and down as well as my vitals started to get out of wack and I wasn't getting told much. This went on for idk how long and at one point, a nurse came running in and said you need to move now your baby's heart rate is extremely low. In the mist of all of these things starting to happen, Slack was sitting right outside my room & was relaying messages through the nurses rather than simply coming in and speaking to me herself. I understand doctors are busy but if your patient is starting to experience some complications, I feel she could've came in and spoke to me and eased my mind a little as this was my first baby and I had no idea what was going on. After hours of intense labor and pushing for hours I began to get extremely exhausted. I had only gotten 1 hour of sleep the morning before this. After so many positions and pushing, I began to get extremely hot and dizzy and then threw up. I finally had broken down and began to cry for a minute and at that time Slack walks in, & says word for word "what's going Sabrina, why are you crying"... Sabrina.. SHE CALLED ME THE WRONG NAME. I told her I am just really struggling idk. She then told me "ok well the only way this baby is going to come out is by you so you need to get it together and push" in a very rude and discouraging tone. I said ok and kept going. She continued to call me the wrong name for the rest of the delivery, I was to exhausted to correct her in the moment. I then started to literally pass out between pushes, I asked for a fan, she said they did not have one. I couldn't even keep my eyes open, I couldn't hold myself up, I barely had enough energy to speak. I don't even remember much of my labor which is so sad. My baby was in my birth canal for about 3 hours, 3 hours way too long. I hit a point where I was not making progress doing what I was doing & I was worried about my baby so I asked if there was another option. She told me the 3 options, I chose to keep going. She told me she could do the suction but she did not feel comfortable doing it at that moment. More time goes on , still not progressing, I ask again can we use the suction, she says "oh yeah no problem" and grabs it in 2 seconds. Why did I have to ask again? Why if I had asked previously, I was clearly struggling so bad, why when it was safe to use it would you not offer me the option and saved me who knows how long of the unnecessary pain? In the end, my baby and I were okay but I feel Slack could've done so much more for me in many aspects and made a few different calls. I am very much traumatized from my experience and don't know how long if ever i'll get over the fear of another delivery like that again. I still cannot believe after having a patient for 9 months, you call them the wrong name during their labor.. Sadly, I will not be returning ever again. Sutter nurses are amazing though so I am hoping for better luck with a different doctor next time. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would, This was my second pregnancy and new to sutter. They assigned me to slack under referral of a family friend. First appointment (and many after) she was always late. Which I get due to delivering others babies. But when she greeted me each time it was rushed and rude. No feeling or compassion at all. Even knowing my previous pregnancy problems -gestational hypertension -pre eclampsia -synthesis pelvic disorder She brushed every problem I had with my second pregnancy off. Labeled me incompetent patient for not being able to go to 2 different appointments due to me being so sick with severe colds I couldn't leave bed. Once it was time to deliver she didn't want me admitted because I was only 4cm but contracting very regularly. Once it came time to push hours later she came in almost too late (i was going to push so fast without any help around) and seemed annoyed it was time for me to give birth. Her demeanor was rude and rushed as usual. A nurse (super kind) made a joke saying maybe I'd have the baby the next day and slack really Ridley said no we're having it soon like she could choose when I had her. She ended up being no help during the birth due to me pushing in 5 minutes and quickly rushed out after. read more

Dr. Slack came to see me in the ER last week as she was the MD on call. She was so kind and stayed with me the whole time during an unexpected medical event in the ER requiring a blood transfusion. She checked on me regularly and communicated with my emergency contact when he arrived. I am so grateful she was there to assess and treat during my emergency. She is an associate of my regular MD and I'm so happy she is with group. Dr. Slack, your kindness, care, and knowledge went a long way! read more

My one and only appointment was earlier this year. I was standing in line, 10 min prior to my appointment. There were only 2 people in front of me, but by the time I reached the front, the receptionist claimed I was about 5 min late. I told her I had been standing in the line 10 min prior to the appointment time but she ignored me, called back to the doctor and lied to the doctor, telling the doc I was late, as I stood at the receptionist desk listening to her call, seething on the inside but keeping my cool on the outside. Dr Slack "allowed" me to stay for the visit anyway. If I was truly late, I would have understandably, apologetically, accepted the consequences of my actions. But, I wasn't late. I saw Dr. Slack about 10-15 min after the scheduled appointment time. I told her I cannot take 2 hormonal BC pills because it causes my BP to rise and also that I have a hx of migraines (that should be a red flag, immediately, for risk of stroke). Dr. Slack decided that I should use a 2 hormonal insert/ring. During the visit she was curt. She was also tapping on her smart watching telling me that her husband keeps sending her tik-tok videos. Before she left the room, she said "Well, you were easy!" I picked up the medication, read the warnings which stated that if one cannot safely take 2 hormonal bc pills, DO NOT USE THE RING which also has 2 hormones. So I tossed it. I decided that if Dr Slack is willing to be that nonchalant about my health, it doesn't matter what her degrees are, I won't be able to trust her. And since the receptionist lied about me, I decided the entire upper management is not to be trusted, as well. As a health care provider myself (with a doctorate) who has worked in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and in home health for over 13 years, I know what top-down customer service, ethics, and management looks like in both ethical and unethical companies. And when the support staff are rude or unethical, it is a usually a reflection of upper management's leadership. When the leadership also shows the same, that is a pattern. I met Dr.Slack back in 2021 when I wanted to start my IVF journey. She was the only female doctor with opening and I was excited to meet with her. On our first appointment she mostly explained to me how things works and she helped me prepare to my appointment with California IVF center by ordering all my blood testing and all needed in advance. This is how we didn't spend time. I completed all the testing before I even met with California IVF Dr. And still, she called to explain me what each thing mean and she was there for me. For the first time in my life I felt like there is a doctor who can really see me and care about me,I'm not just a number. Almost a year later we got pregnant and I was extremely excited to go back to Dr. Slack! Seeing her huge smile in our first ultrasound made me feel like I'm safe! She's the kindest person and doctor I've met in my life! She is open to hear a second opinion from other doctors and she was supportive of our journey. After a really bad experience with the prenatal clinic in Sutter Sacramento she found out about it and called me from her vacation to support me and to make sure I'm ok (Never ever happened to me before). She promised to build a plan with us when she's back and she kept her word. We were referred to UCSF for more testing and diagnostic and she was there by our side during this really hard time. We we're scared and she knew it so she asked to see us more often than usual. This is how we changes to every 2 week visit. After we "graduated " from UCSF we scheduled our C section with our favorite doctor at all times! We are thrilled and excited for Dr. Slack to bring our boy to this world! We feel very lucky to know her! Thank you Dr.Slack and a bigger thank you to her staff who did above and beyond for us. I must write that I didn't know you can leave a review to your doctor and based on the reviews here I can tell that people usually leaves reviews only when they have bad experience. I had Alison Slack for most of my pregnancy back in 2019. I am a first time mom and didn't know until last min I could switch to another hospital with my insurance ( I did at 9 months to Kaiser) this woman was the rudest person I have ever been around in my life. All my appointments I felt so uncomfortable and if I asked her any questions it was almost like she was pissed off at me. I would wait over and hour to be seen just for her to look at me and say everything is fine goodbye. I had asked her if she could let me go on maternity leave early because I was in so much pain by 6 months and could barely stand ( I ended up having a 10 pound baby) she looked me in the eyes and said " by law I am not allowed to sign you off, call your local Congress and complain) I would cry to my husband because I didn't want this woman around when I gave birth. I switched over to Kaiser last min and the first thing my best OBGYN told me was my baby was going to be over 8 pounds, just by looking at me!!! She also was able to tell me my baby's head was a lot bigger then normal. Alison Slack should not be a doctor especially with pregnant people. I would stay far away from this person! I would try to get any other Sutter OBGYN doctor if possible. I saw Dr. Slack during and after my pregnancy because I had wanted to deliver at Sutter. I had to change to a Sutter doctor quickly and she was the only one with openings (this should have told me something). Dr. Slack had an awful bedside manner, always rushed every visit, did whatever she wanted to do (TOLD me she was sweeping membranes, did not ask), not thorough or personable at all, and frankly just rude in general. Dr. Alison Slack has been the absolute best to us from the start. My wife and I started out with twins but unfortunately we lost one and the prenatal clinic we were at did not do a great job of preparing us or even addressing the warning signs that we might lose one of our babies - the prenatal clinic often pushed off our visits so they weren't regularly happening. When we told Dr. Alison Slack she rushed into action and got us moved to UCSF prenatal clinic and argued with our insurance making them take us. She called us while on vacation to check up on us and she was very empathetic to our situation. She squeezed our appointments in on busy days and when we asked her to do our C section for my wife, she agreed and said to call her if our son comes early and she would leave her vacation to come be our C section surgeon. We are forever grateful to her for making this very difficult and scary process of giving birth manageable and reassuring us every step of the way. We would be nervous wrecks after losing one of our babies if not for her! She advocates for us, offers lots of sympathy and she is honest and direct with us about what to expect. We are very happy we were randomly assigned as her patients and we recommend anyone at Sutter in the Roseville area to request for Dr. Slack. She is the absolute best and to see some of the nasty comments people have left - well my only conclusion is those individuals have something seriously judgmental about them or they are lacking any iota of self reflection because I have never met a doctor more responsive, supportive or more of a fighter for her patients than Dr. Slack! read more

So unprofessional. She performed my Cesarean to deliver my son and she was repeatedly saying the F word right in the middle of the procedure. I was strapped down while the person cutting me open is dropping F bombs, super comforting right? Was she making a mistake? Was my baby okay? Honestly, she was a nightmare of a doctor. I haven't seen Dr.Slack, but had a bad experience with her front desk today that was worth writing a review. When I called to make an initial appointment with Dr.Slack, the receptionist asked me if I had a PPO or an HMO. My husband told me I had a PPO. The receptionist informed me that she was unable to verify that information for me. This is extremely strange especially since my sister works at a hospital as an insurance verifier. I called my insurance company an told them what happened, and even they found it very strange that her office was unwilling to verify my eligibility. I can't say enough about Dr. Slack. She has been warm and compassionate with every appointment I've had with her since I walked into the office back in 2005. She doesn't rush you in and out. She listens and answers questions in detail. I've only been delayed once for my appointment time but chalked it up to multiple deliveries that day (babies have no set time of delivery). She follows up with phone calls for lab results. She's just an overall great doctor. I have since moved an hour away and I will travel just to continue with her. My 20 year old daughter scheduled an appointment with her as her normal gyn was out of the office and she loved her as well. She has since transferred to Dr. Slack's care. I'll start off by saying I was very impressed with Dr. Slack at my first appointment. She seemed warm, kind, and reassuring. I really thought I had found a doctor that I would continue going to for a long time. That was three weeks ago. Today I had my follow up appointment for the severe hormonal imbalance I'm experiencing, which has my cycles totally out of control and is making my life a living hell. My appointment was at 5:20. I didn't even see Dr. Slack until 6:10. I waited in the exam room for over thirty minutes. It became so hot in there that I had to open the door to get some air. About five minutes later, I hear a lady ask if Dr. Slack needed help. That's when I saw Dr. Slack walk into her office while saying she had a follow up with the "bleeder lady". Bleeder lady? Is that her nice nickname for me? I didn't think it was all that cute, especially since I've been suffering with this for months now. Look, your patients actually have names. If you were a professional, you would try to address your patients by their names. I don't think she knew my exam room door was open or that I would hear her. Trust me, I don't want to be sick and have to come to the doctor for it. The last thing I need is to deal with unprofessional doctors that I trust with my health. Another few minutes passed and she finally came to get me out of the exam room. She apologized for keeping me waiting and led me to her office. Something was definitely different this time. She seemed cold, irritated, not at all the same person I saw three weeks ago. Maybe she was having a bad day, but she shouldn't take it out on others, least of all her patients. I have been going to Dr. Slack for about 6 years. She's very personable and professional. If there is a problem she makes every effort to resolve it. She's got a great sense of humor which I think is a plus when you're dealing with a stressful medical condition. Yes, occasionally there is a wait, but her staff is always attentive and let's you know what's going on. Everyone in her office is professional and kind. I wish there was a way to give 0 stars.She was my doctor during my pregnancy and she screwed up everything! That being my first time I didn't know much about pregnancy and she didn't care to tell me a thing.She didn't even checked my Baby's position and I had to go for a unplanned C section.To my amazement as soon as I went to the hospital and midwife touched my tummy she told me that my baby was in breech position and I will have to go for C section.But the doctor never bothered to check.My baby was under weight and was born with DS. There was a echogenic focus in ultrasound and when I asked Dr slack should we go for a test she said she will not worry about it and later everywhere in records she mentioned that parents declined the screening. Just want to mention that I am very thankful to god for baby and I absolutely love him but it is doctor's non caring attitude which still bothers me.There was an incident when I had white spots on my nails and when I told her she was like if you think you are taking less calcium take more,it can happen due to calcium deposition as well so if you are taking more take less now on.Does that even qualifies as a response???
