I have 3 lay-overs so with the warnings of an historic El Nino, quite literally, tons of snow, I thought it was time to pull the trigger. I called Whitaker and 2 others to get bids. Whitaker and one of the others sat with me for like an hour answering all my questions, and I'm a bit like a 3 year old, "why?" "why? "how?"....They were both patient and I would have been happy with either. Their estimates were a gnat's hair apart, both within spitting distance of the estimate I got 4 years ago. In this world of absurd pricing and gouging, these guys remained ridiculously low and fair. I opted for Whitaker based on a good feeling. What a great move!! ON time, multiple confirmations, and honored their estimate. The roof is gorgeous. Hazel would've been proud of the clean-up, and the crew was incredibly friendly and conscientious - they even worked, against my pleading - in the rain!! Here's a kicker. The day they started the job, the office manager knocked on my door and did a 'house call' to thank me and express their gratitude for choosing them. Now seriously, when is the last time you've even HEARD of a company doing that, let alone experienced it yourself??? I simply couldn't be happier. Genuinely. I wish we never chose Allied for our fence project. Our dog was escaping our 4ft fence and injuring…read morehimself in the process, so we needed new gates urgently. Got our estimate, paid the deposit and waited. And waited. And messaged, and waited. After 6 weeks of no update, I learn our color choice was backordered and nobody knew/told us (we would have chosen another color because our dog was getting hurt!). Figured out that delay, then, "any day now". Another two weeks, many reminders and nagging texts (I hate nagging contractors, I would rather they just do their job). Finally texted to cancel our contract and get our money back, and surprise! Our fence was ready to install. Installer finally came and was a hard worker, but the post they sent has exposed edges and didn't accept the hardware correctly. The hinges didn't really self-close so we asked for them to adjust them. The install manager came to "adjust" them but it still never closed by itself. A year+ later, the gates are warped and the hinges are garbage. They were supposed to be self-closing, but they are way too light duty for the weight of the gate. Not only are they not self-closing, but you can't even swing the gate closed because it's out of balance and just swings itself back open again. The gate is so heavy and out of plumb, it needs to be pushed closed to latch every time. Messaged about getting hinges replaced under warranty, in May, about 3 months before our warranty ran out. Of course I was given another run-around answer that the manufacturer is designing better hinges and can we wait for those? I asked for that to be emailed in writing, so we would still have the hinges covered under warranty. Last messaged received May 12th, it's now Sept 16th. Nope, never got an email nor hinges. Not holding my breath, although I expect they will amazingly show up with hinges as soon as this review posts. Two stars instead of one because the gates are still standing.

I called and had them come out for an estimate last Tuesday. The guy spent about three minutes at…read moremy home. I measured the area prior to him coming and also had a few other bids. My measurements and the other companies all had 123 total feet of fencing. I asked this guy what his measurements were and he hesitated and told me "about 130 feet." Then he said he would email me a bid in about two days. Two days went by and no email. I called Friday morning and asked about my estimate and the lady on the phone took my info, confirmed my email and said I would have the email with the estimate no later than 5 pm that day. It is now Tuesday, a week later. Even companies who have come out after them have already given me all their estimates. The moral of the story is, these guys don't care about your time. They're not honest in any of their dealings with me either. Go with someone else. We certainly will be.

In the last eight years they have done a pretty big fencing job, some steel fence and some cedar, for us. Many of the steel posts have big blobs of cement above ground around them, which is unsightly and unprofessional and bugs me every time I see it. Parts of the cedar fence are now falling down, after less than eight years. I have texted Dylan pictures of this but no reply. If you hire these guys, good luck. You'll need it, because you won't, from my experience, get any follow up if there are problems.

Unfortunately, SLC Deck and Fence is not a company I would ever recommend…read more Dylan said he would procure a permit for an overheight fence, and proclaimed that he had done 'many' in the SLC area. Despite repeated attempts to confirm he had gotten a permit, he still did not have one on the day that he planned to start the fence. He never acquired a permit, which resulted in a nearly year long battle with the city that finally resolved (today) through a painful and expensive workaround. The city said he had only asked for one other permit for an overheight fence in the past--proving that he lied to us about this. On top of that, his workers damaged the cable for my internet requiring Comcast to make a trip out, and didn't close the neighbors fence door so their dog got out. 2 of the boards fell off the fence in the first week it was up, and he didn't stain both sides of the fence! I'd hire a lawyer for all the pain in the ass this was, but by the time I'd be done, I'd probably not make a penny back of the $6000 I paid him to do a terrible job. I have a strong, strong aversion to this dude and his business. He seems nice, but don't give him a penny of your money.
