Dylan is a very nice guy, as everyone says. He goes out of his way to be helpful, but once his crew has done their shoddy work he is unavailable. In the last eight years they have done a pretty big fencing job, some steel fence and some cedar, for us. Many of the steel posts have big blobs of cement above ground around them, which is unsightly and unprofessional and bugs me every time I see it. Parts of the cedar fence are now falling down, after less than eight years. I have texted Dylan pictures of this but no reply. If you hire these guys, good luck. You'll need it, because you won't, from my experience, get any follow up if there are problems. read more

SLC Deck & Fence - This fence began to sag after only 5 years - Fences & Gates Near Me - Millcreek, Utah

Unfortunately, SLC Deck and Fence is not a company I would ever recommend. Dylan said he would procure a permit for an overheight fence, and proclaimed that he had done 'many' in the SLC area. Despite repeated attempts to confirm he had gotten a permit, he still did not have one on the day that he planned to start the fence. He never acquired a permit, which resulted in a nearly year long battle with the city that finally resolved (today) through a painful and expensive workaround. The city said he had only asked for one other permit for an overheight fence in the past--proving that he lied to us about this. On top of that, his workers damaged the cable for my internet requiring Comcast to make a trip out, and didn't close the neighbors fence door so their dog got out. 2 of the boards fell off the fence in the first week it was up, and he didn't stain both sides of the fence! I'd hire a lawyer for all the pain in the ass this was, but by the time I'd be done, I'd probably not make a penny back of the $6000 I paid him to do a terrible job. I have a strong, strong aversion to this dude and his business. He seems nice, but don't give him a penny of your money. read more

I reached out to Dylan to describe the fence that I wanted to do in my yard. He asked me to send him pictures and then we would schedule a time to come out to do the bid. I took all the pictures he asked for and sent them to him, but he never replied to the e-mail. I tried calling him and left a voicemail and he never replied. Guess I'm glad I didn't hire him do it do the job when I can't even get him to reply for new work. read more

Dylan and his team are terrific. We have had them do two different projects. One was a deck railing that needed to be replaced because it wouldn't pass inspection. Dylan came up with a great solution. The work was approved on the first pass! For our second project, they did a REALLY long fence over hilly terrain. Dylan was very careful to make sure we were on the same page about how the fence would look, and we love it! One thing I have loved about working with SLC Deck & Fence is that they start when they say they will start, and they work hard until the job is done. Dylan was easy to work with! He planned out the project and let us have samples so we could mull-over what materials we wanted and gave us a fair bid. Matt was the builder and the deck looks great! We are very happy. Matt did a great job. We have really appreciated him involving us in the project decisions. As you know, there are always minor issues that pop-up when you get down to the nitty-gritty of the build. Some builders we have had in the past just make their own decisions and go on. Matt was great because he would come and involve us in the decisions so we had a say-so in the overall look. He even made a few adjustments for us to accommodate some of our "old people" needs, and he would give us time to think about what we wanted; no on-the-spot decision-making! Consequently, we are happy with every aspect of the deck, with no buyers' remorse here! I have never had a home project go well. There are always delays, cost overages and things that aren't done correct and have to be fixed. For the first time in my life I actually had an easy, pleasant experience with a home project - I couldn't be happier! We had a 10'x10' small raised deck built against our home. This required moving of some large landscaping boulders. Dylan showed up on the scheduled time for the project, worked quickly, and presented me with easy options to choose from for the deck. Even when I made two changes on him at the last minute he quickly and easily accommodated. I keep thinking I'm missing something...how could this have gone so well, so quickly and painlessly? Disappointing. We were given a bid for a deck project but were asked to wait 2 1/2 months until the end of summer. We turned down another bid and decided to wait for Salt Lake deck as they appeared to be the better choice. On the day that our project was to be started, we waited all morning and they did not show up or answer phone calls. Close to 11 AM, they called to say they forgot to tell us they were running a day late. The next day, they showed up to say they forgot how big a project it was and didn't want to do it anymore. Now it looks like we have to wait possibly until next spring to get on the schedule of an alternative deck company! We understand it was a big project and that any company has the right to not take a job. However, it was very unprofessional to even bid on a job that they were not going to be able to complete. We wasted a lot of time waiting for this company when we could've been searching for other bids. read more

I don't normally review companies but I had such a great experience with Dylan and his crew that I just have to let everyone else know. We wanted a custom, not run of mill modern fence and was having very little luck with the large fencing contractors. However, as soon as I found Dylan's company everything changed. We love our fence and everything went as Dylan said it would, no up charges and the finished product was stellar. And Dylan stands by his work, we had one small problem with a latch and he showed up the day after we reported it and quickly took care of the problem.
