Where other contractors canceled appointments, arrived late, or were just no-shows - Mikel (out of their Hudson office) arrived on time and did a thorough assessment of the roof including taking drone footage. He sat with me and walked me through the whole process clearly, explaining all my choices in materials and didn't push any product or add-on. I did receive marginally cheaper quotes, but they did not leave me feeling like my home was in good hands in the same way that Mikel did, and I felt the extra money was likely to be worth it. Once I decided to go ahead with them, again, everything was done very professionally. I was kept informed of times and everybody showed up exactly when they said they would. I made a small change to the scope of the work in replacing additional plywood sections of the roof, and these were easily accommodated on short notice. On the day of the work, the crew showed up on time and Jurgan (the site foreman) kept everything moving with minimal disruption to us. I was working from home, and my wife and kids were in and out of the house for school and errands. Despite replacing the entire roof of the main building and two additions over approximately 9 hours, there was minimal disruption to our days. The house was protected during the work, and even with snow still on the ground, their cleanup crew constantly walked the property picking up and disposing of any debris, nails, old material etc. Ultimately the roof was replaced successfully and looks good. Every step of the job was explained to me, every question answered, and every decision explained. The team was professional, punctual and courteous throughout. A couple of weeks in and we've had snow, rain and strong winds. Everything is still perfect. I can highly recommend Mikel and Jurgan from Golden Group, Hudson.

I had Dan and his team dig a full perimeter french drain in my basement, with a sump pump in the…read morecorner. They were on time and worked hard. However, the french drain and sump pump he installed in my basement was not done properly, and thus is not functioning properly. The sump pit was not placed low enough, and when water rises in the lowest spot in the house it does not flow through the drain and into the pit, where it can be pumped out by the sump pump. Numerous calls and texts, with offers to work me into his schedule, and almost two months later I'm still left with pooling water that can't reach the sump pump because the pit was placed higher than the lowest point in the house. Additionally, Dan cut through the top of the sump pit cover, leaving me with an exposed pit in my basement, which is not normal, illegal in some states, and contrary to recommendations from the American Society of Home Inspectors. When I protested the lack of a sealed sump pit, Dan proceeded to tape garbage bags across the top to create a moisture barrier. This happened because I had asked about adding a third, more powerful sump pump to the regular pump and the battery back up. The pit Dan used only had two knock out holes for piping, so instead of advising me of this, he cut the top open to fit piping for the third pump. Had he advised me properly, I would have opted for two pumps, so we could use the lid as it was designed, and seal it properly. Overall it was a fine experience while they were working here, but a combination of bad advice, no advice, and poor installation have left me with pooling water at what remains the lowest spot in my house, a dry french drain, and an empty but exposed sump pit.

Leader was a little more expensive than some bids we got, but I honestly think when changing the face of your house, you get what you pay for. Leader dealt with the City, the permits, the architect, and managed every detail of the project. Lauren dealt with permits and the front end of the project (because I knew nothing when we started all this), and Kaitlyn (construction manager) managed all the contractors and worked with us to deal with contingencies as they arose. We replaced the windows and door on the front of the house. We excavated 14,000 pounds of concrete stairs (layered for over 100 years), we replaced the siding on the front. We had roofers and electricians to deal with. The carpenters that built the porch (Zenon!!!) were masterful and executed the architectural plans perfectly. The structure and roof were completed in 6 weeks start to finish. I appreciate how communicative Leader is, I appreciate how carefully and neatly their contractors worked, I appreciate that every single person who worked on our property was incredibly professional.
