This was one of the best guided trips we have ever taken. We booked a private 10:45-sundown tour of the Grand Canyon and we were promised a tailored, luxury experience and the tour lived up to the promise and then some. Our guide David met us early at Under Canvas in a comfortable van that was stocked with a fantastic variety of cold drinks, fresh fruit, and snacks that started the trip off right. It was exceptionally hot the day we scheduled our tour and we were concerned that we would have a difficult time with the heat. Our tour included our nine year old son and we were also worried he would be bored. David really made the trip enjoyable despite the heat. We were able to really get a sense of the majesty of the Grand Canyon through its wondrous beauty, its history, the danger it can present to the unprepared, as well as his relationship to the park. Highlights are many but included: * David made sure our first view of the park was breathtaking * We avoided the crowds (big win!) * Lunch was on a tablecloth, was delicious and included all the accoutrement * Sunset wine toast with charcuterie and cheese * Mindfulness moment to pause and reflect on the grandeur of the Grand Canyon The biggest highlight though was that our nine year thought David was the coolest guy which meant he was totally into the experience. A Trip-Maker -- Don't Visit the Grand Canyon Without Doing This We just got back from a trip to the Grand Canyon, and hands down the highlight was our private hike with All Star Grand Canyon Tours -- specifically, our guide, Dave. If we hadn't booked this guided hike, I think the Grand Canyon would have been a bit of a letdown. Like most visitors, we probably would have parked, taken a few photos from the rim, and driven away saying, "Wow, that was big," without ever really experiencing it. Dave changed everything. We booked All Star for an all day private excursion of the GC for five people. For three of us, it was our first time and thought it would be good to be guided. It wasn't cheap but man was it worth every penny. We got picked by Andrew at Under Canvas where we were staying. Andrew toured us to all the great spots of the Grand Canyon which included a shorter hike and then a more substantial one. Both were at locations with stunning views. I am a little afraid of heights and ended up stopping mid way while the rest of the group trekked down further for even more stunning views on the longer hike. Our lunch was prepared by a professional caterer comprised of great sandwiches and salads, all set up for us to just sit and enjoy. The grand finale was at the most stunning spot to watch the sunset while we sipped on champagne and nibble on cheese and salami. The best part of the excursion was certainly Andrew. He had a great way of being genuine, being able to mix with us who got a little rambunctious at times. She was able to identify key rock structures and scenic points and had them scoped within minutes of each stop. He can see things in an artistic way and believe me, because he's also an avid hiker, he knows where to look and where is a better view. My family booked a day-long trip with this company and we couldn't have been more pleased with how well the trip was planned out. We stayed in Sedona, so our tour guide, Jason, drove from Flagstaff to pick us up early in the morning. He met us at our rental apartment and greeted us with a plethora of snacks and drinks artfully arranged in a basket in the back of the van. Clearly, I'm a big foodie so most of this review has to do with the snacks/ meals provided and I have to say I was highly impressed. I've been on a decent amount of day long & multi day tours and raft trips and have seen what these companies generally bring, and this was far beyond my expectations. The snack basket Jason had for us was filled with probably ~$200 worth of premium healthy snacks. He also had a large assortment of drinks and water available to you at any time of the day. But I digress-- back to the itinerary. We drove to the Grand Canyon and during the drive, Jason gauged our interest in what kinds of things we wanted to see during the day and what, if any, hikes we wanted to take. We made multiple stops throughout the day at various viewpoints and at one point took about an hour long hike into a beautiful spot of the canyon. Jason was extremely knowledgeable about geography, history, formation of the canyon, plant life, animals, etc. He was extremely easy to talk to and got along well every member of our family. He was able to gauge the interests/ needs of different family members and adjust his suggestions and teachings accordingly. He made it easy for all family members to enjoy the day-- even those of us that aren't super outdoorsy (me lol!)! The thing I appreciated most about the tour was that Jason was really good at communicating when and where the best bathroom stops were. If you ever spend any time in the wilderness or National Parks, you'll know your bathroom options are generally limited to those warm, drafty, hole-in-the-ground toilets that get cleaned, what seems like, once a summer. If you've ever done any type of guided outdoor tour, you'll also notice that the tour guides have grown immune to these kinds of facilities and have considerably lower standards-- thus leaving you too to rough it in the dredges of uncharted bathroom territory. Jason did not do this to us--hooray! He would tell us which bathrooms were clean, and when we should go in case we wouldn't have the opportunity for a while. I know this sounds like a menial detail, but for a non-outdoorsy gal like myself, it really adds some comfort to your day and allows you to enjoy the scenery sans the incessant thought that you just contracted a flesh eating bacteria from the local toilet (idk, is this just me?!). Mid-day we stopped for lunch at a camp site Jason picked due to its lack of other tourists-- a nice touch and a very peaceful place to eat lunch! When he began to set up a table cloth and real plates and silverware I knew the lunch was going to be good. Jason then pulled out artfully arranged platters of any vegetable you could need for a sandwich topping, a plethora of spreads, specialty hot sauces, and side salads. We had placed a sandwich order a few days prior, so we each had our preferred meat and bread already wrapped up, but then we could add any of our own toppings right there. This was a really nice touch as you got to decide how much of each vegetable, condiment, etc you wanted on your own sandwich. My family has some pretty high sandwich-standards and each of us gave this meal a resounding five stars. You're also given a deliciously moist chocolate chip cookie, and then the guide cleaned everything up for us! We drove around a bit more and then headed to an ancient ruin outside of the National Park to watch the sunset. At this point, Jason yet again brought out another gourmet meal. Cold hard cider for everyone, and a charcuterie board with different types of cheese, meats, artisan crackers and Ghirardelli chocolate. We stayed at the site for about an hour while the sun set and then headed back to Sedona. If you're considering booking a private or group tour, 100% you should book a private tour with this company. No uncomfortable bus, no other families deciding what you can and cannot do for the day-- just a highly customizable, unbelievably comfortable, enjoyable day for you to sit back and enjoy the Grand Canyon and all it has to offer. We were gone all day (picked up around 7 am and dropped off around 9 pm), so you really do get your money's worth. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and the food was outstanding. By far my BEST experience with a tour company. Tour Guide: Aaron was our guide... and my oh my was he AWESOME. He was extremely knowledgeable, personable, congenial, passionate, and very much committed to giving us a top-notch tour. He knew how to read the audience and brought the energy level up the moment we stepped into the vehicle. I especially didn't think the ride to the Grand Canyon would be that interesting, but he had us on the edge of our seats from start to finish! He knew how to engage us, and our group (of strangers) gelled as if we were on a tour with a group of friends. Aaron had the best tips on where and how to photograph (and tirelessly snapped pictures for us) and took us to the best spots. I can go on and on... Ride: The vehicle is super comfortable. They customized the vehicle for everyone to have individual window seats. They also provided an excellent array of snacks and drinks throughout the ride. And the best part? USB ports for every seat! We were making our first trip back to the Grand Canyon in 25 years and decided we wanted to be lazy and have someone else do the driving and maybe teach us something new about this wonderful park. Three words: Spiritual, Life-Changing, Priceless Our tour guide Aaron Murphy was PHENOMENAL! Aaron has a spirit that is so pure, positive and genuine. His love for the Grand Canyon and mindfulness really shines through.You will not be disappointed with the All-Star Grand Canyon Tours team. While driving to the GC, Aaron shared so many interesting facts and stories as well as accessed which trail would be best for us and what we were expecting from the hike. We did the Grand View Trail which took all day. It was amazing. The picnic lunch was excellent. We had the vegan sandwiches and pasta and Aaron brought many fruits: strawberries, blueberries and grapes. He even gathered a group of hikers (not in our group) to sing happy birthday to me (which my friend recorded)!! He really brought this experience to another level that I never expected. This tour was beyond what I imagined. Aaron also brought us to great view points and was so enthusiastic to take our photos as well as suggest best angles, etc so we could have our perfect shots. Towards the end of the tour, Aaron left my friend and I to take in the final view and it was just surreal. It was as if the Grand Canyon spoke to me. We were skeptics at first but 4 of us decided to take the Grand Canyon tour. Our guide Cory picked us up in a new van. He had drinks and snacks for us because we were going to be gone 8.5 hours. As we drive Cory kept the conversation going by offering so much information on the scenery and the upcoming stops. Cory offered non stop source of information you would never learn going solo. Although weather wasn't on our side at the beginning of our Grand Canyon trip, Aaron definitely was. He picked us up in at our hotel and we were on our way. The day seemed very dreary but after patience, the snow, rain and fog let up, giving us some good views of the canyon - a huge relief for us, as well as for Aaron as well! The logistics: - The tour is from 8:30am-5/6pm. - The van sits 9 max and each seat has a captain's chair with a window seat. - There are cup holders next to each seat, with a USB plug to charge your phone. A huge plus!! - The van has a microphone, making it easy for the people in the back to hear. - Lunch is provided, and semi customizable. It includes a sandwich on sliced bread, pasta salad, fruit, coleslaw, cookies and chips. Though I might not say its gourmet, I would say that it was very nice, and on normal plates (rather than paper). - Aaron kept the van filled with plenty of bottled water and juices. - There were plenty of bathroom stops. - It covered a loop from the South Rim. The tour: We took the tour from Flagstaff and the South Rim entrance was about an hour and a half away. The time went surprisingly quickly! Aaron was extremely knowledgeable and provided a lot of good facts about the canyon. Because our weather was very foggy and snowy, a lot of the discussion surrounded the weather though. He offered patience and was willing to take us back to locations that we originally went to without a view, because the day cleared up. It was also a good touch for Aaron to bring his monoscope out so we can get a better look at the caves. Aaron also helped take many pictures for the group! Best of all, he always went with us when we left the van and provided additional commentary, that I know those larger bus tours did not. Overall: All-Star Grand Canyon tours is probably one of the most personal tours of the Grand Canyon, with their van relatively small, compared to the huge tour busses. They are highly responsive via email, and seemed to be flexible with the dates if I had to reschedule. This shows that they aren't out to just get your money, and if you had to change your tour within a day or two, they would try their best to accommodate you. In the same breath, I also think that the price for the tour is pretty steep considering the incurred costs are gas, lunch and park entrance only. There were no attractions/fees that it covers. read more

We booked our Grand Canyon Tour and John D was our guide. We had a fantastic time and highly recommend it to anyone interested in taking a tour. The Tour: The tour takes you east along the grand canyon and you visit a bunch of spots you can't get to taking the free shuttles. All the stops had great views with other historical or architectural significance. Around noon we stopped for lunch and were treated to a really impressive meal. I think everyone on the tour expected a boxed lunch. Instead, we had real plates and silverware, great sandwiches from a local flagstaff cafe, and plenty of extras (cole slaw, vegetables, fruit, pasta salad, chips, cookies, and drinks) to fill everyone up. Time management at each stop was good and there were plenty of stops with rest rooms along the way. We also visited a Navajo trading post were we met and spoke directly with the owners. They gave a very nice presentation on Navajo life and artwork. The Guide: John was awesome. He was a wealth of information and very personable. There wasn't a question he couldn't answer and he also provided some great history and insight on the Canyon and the locals. He's extremely knowledgeable of the area and has great presentation skills. He kept everyone involved from the 13 year olds to the older folks. The tour itself isn't cheap, but my wife and I feel it's well worth the money. We saw things we never would have seen had we not been on an organized tour. We also learned a tremendous amount about the canyon; if you have a few days at the Canyon, take one day to visit the village and walk around on your own and spend another day touring with All Star. The Best Tour I Could Have Asked For!! Owner Ben Murphy has done an excellent job of hand selecting his staff and planning what turned out to be more then I expected as a tour of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park. As a local to the area I have visited the Grand Canyon several times and even with as much experience and knowledge I felt I had about the park, I was amazed at the detailed and helpful information that our tour guide Joel possessed. Joel, you rock!! From the minute we were picked up, to the end of our tour Joel shared his knowledge of the entire area. Even when it seemed Joel had run out of things to talk about, he would find something new, or just make something up :) It was great to have someone that could continue to talk even when what he was talking about had nothing to do with the Grand Canyon or other areas of interest. A completely well planned out tour, that made our day even better. Lunch was fantastic, more food then most of us could ever finish. My Mom and I did a private Grand Canyon tour with Derek last week, and it was one of those afternoons that we will remember for a lifetime. Derek's knowledge about the history, geology and folklore of the area ensured that we were entertained every minute! There were 4 eight to ten year olds in the group - the pace and itinerary was ambitious yet mindful of their physical limits. Couldn't ask for a more knowledgable and friendly guide. This was worth every penny! Our tour guide Joel was super knowledgable and showed us around to all the cool secret gems by the south rim that we would of never went to on our own. We started the tour at 930am, had a delicious lunch by the desert view and my god what a spread! Afterwards we went to a handful of breathtaking views and visit the Deseret tower which was awesome. Do not miss a chance to tour with All-Star! Cory spent the day making sure we all loved this place as much as he does. This was our first trip to the Grand Canyon and he left nothing unturned. His knowledge of the history of the area, Native American culture, geology, animal and plant life was incredibly vast. The information he shared enhanced an already beautiful setting. We booked a private tour with All Star Grand Canyon Tours and it was worth every penny. Our tour guide, Corey, did a fabulous job telling us the history and interesting facts about the Grand Canyon and surrounding area. My two sons, ages 7 and 10, had an amazing and unforgettable day. He customized our tour perfectly, from the stops we made to the sunset cheese and wine grand finale (apple cider for the boys). We had a delicious lunch in a quiet spot with a gorgeous view of the canyon. There was no way we would have been able to see the Grand Canyon in quite the same way without an expert to guide us. Cannot say enough great things about Cory (our awesome guide) and this amazing tour!! We arrived at the canyon and within an hour, it began to hail very hard on us. Hail was not at all part of the day's plan, but Cory seamlessly altered our schedule to make sure we had a great time. We had a wonderful picnic lunch and shortly after began our hike. The hike he took us on was not at all busy, which is something that I really valued because it gave us time to enjoy the views and learn about everything Cory had to teach us. We asked a ton of questions, and he knew all the answers and explained everything really well. He made this day-hike into something so much more than just a stop on a road trip; he has a wealth of knowledge about the area, the land, and the people who have inhabited it for years and years.
