This crew does it right! Spent five days with Jeremy on the Thunder river / Deer Creek trails at the Grand Canyon. I had next to no real backpacking experience going into this trip. Learned a ton about the landscape, geology, biodiversity, and how to survive in the back country (def would not have survived on my own for a bunch of different reasons). Take note, this trip is absolutely worth the work and investment but absolutely critical you come correct (train for real). This is not for the light-hearted, mental and physical toughness required. We are two sisters in our 70s who wanted to do some hiking in the Grand Canyon to honor our parents who honeymooned there. I was the less experienced hiker and wanted my sister to be able to enjoy the hike without worrying about me. So, I hired Four Seasons Guides for a day hike in February. We had a wonderful experience, and I can't recommend them highly enough. Our guide, Steve, was charming, knowledgeable, very experienced, and took very good care of us. We had our own packs and poles, but he had some on hand just in case. Breakfast fruit and muffins were provided as well as a hot lunch set up as a picnic and snacks for the trail. My sister was anxious to get on with the hike, and I was always stopping to look at the view or ask Steve some random question about canyon geology or history (which he always knew the answer to). Somehow, due to his expertise and great people skills, we both came away thinking we each had the perfect day. Steve took away all the worry about the weather, route, wildlife (there were elk on the trail and several donkey trains passed us) and made the hike much more fun and interesting. Also, other experienced local hikers that we met on the trail let us know that Four Seasons Guides were the best and we were in good hands. Just completed a 4-day 3-night Grand Canyon Rim to Rim back packing camping and hiking trip arranged through Four Seasons Guides in Flagstaff Arizona. It was a great experience beginning with the application process all the way through the last day of the hike. Our back country guide, Jeremy, was awesome. He was informative, kind, well prepared and communicated what to expect every day. He was also very diligent about following NPS rules and regulations (which helps to keep the national park pristine). Jeremy made our trip even better. They explained information needed for the trip such as permitting process, physical training, and equipment along with any dietary requirement. Jeremy was our guide. Best guide company in the area!! Dave is super responsive to emails and questions, no matter how small, on how to go about starting your trek. Four friends and myself planned a 5 day and 4 night backpacking trip on the Deer Creek-Thunder River trail through the Grand Canyon. Matt and Quinn were our guides and they exceeded all expectations in every way and, in general, were just great people to be around. In daily preparation, they were patient while showing us how everything was going to work, they were great at explaining how serious or not serious the day's adventures were going to be and awesome at preparing great meals for us. In regards to guiding us through the hike itself, they were very knowledgeable about the area and were great at pointing out all kinds of amazing things we were seeing such as the geological layers of the canyon and animals that were all around us. We did the 3 day Havasu Falls hike and had a great experience! The views and the hiking were amazing and we were lucky to have such a wonderful guide! The trip was very well organized and all details were taken care of. Our guide was very experienced and knowledgeable and we were very impressed with the entire experience. When we arrived at camp, our guide set up our camp site while we sat near the waterfall. All of our meals were prepared for us, and when they say they 'take pride in their culinary creations"-they are not kidding! The food was great, we could not have asked for a better trip. My husband and I went into this shop last week to pick up some last-minute items before a trip to the Grand Canyon (carabiners, camp mugs) and were really impressed with Stu, who was working behind the counter. We only spent about $10 in the store but Stu talked to us for the better part of an hour, giving us all kinds of excellent tips, directions, suggestions for side trips and ideas for future canyon adventures in Northern AZ & Southern UT. He definitely did not need to be so attentive to us since we were extremely low stakes customers that day. If we can afford him, we would definitely hire him in the future for a guided trip! No idea what it costs to hire the guides but we will definitely be back to the shop at a bare minimum next time we visit Flagstaff. read more

Just back from a four-day Hermit Loop (west to east) backpacking trip. We've used other tour companies before and Four Seasons is the best. Dave, the owner, is incredibly responsive to phone calls and emails and we appreciated that each time we called, we were speaking to the same person so not getting conflicting advice. The company is very well-organized and everything went smoothly. Jeremy, our guide, was incredible. He is kind and friendly, cheerful, and interesting. He's a great chef and we appreciated all the fresh ingredients he managed to bring along for lunches and dinners. Meals were great and the food was plentiful. He is knowledgeable about the canyon, its history and geology, and was able to explain things in a way we could easily understand. It was also impressive how much weight Jeremy carried so that we wouldn't have to. It was interesting to see how many people in the Canyon (Rangers, LE, other guides) knew and adored Jeremy. This loop had awesome views and is well worth the difficulty. Do it with a guide and do it with Four Seasons. We will be back for more! read more

It's been a little over ten weeks since I made the eight hour ascent out of the Grand Canyon with snow pelting straight at me. When I tell my friends about the trip, they say, "That sounds awful!" Honestly it was a great experience. We decided last minute to do a guided backpacking trip into the Grand Canyon and after researching decided to go with Four Seasons Guides. They got a permit for us to go on the Hermit Trail, which is a more backcountry and difficult trail. I wanted to go on a guided trip because I've never done a backpacking trip before. Since they provide all the gear and food, it's really a good deal. I didn't want to invest in a bunch of gear and then possibly not use it again. All of their gear is top quality from MSR and it's made in the USA. Jeremy, our guide, was really knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the Grand Canyon. We were well taken care of the entire trip- coffee, delicious food, snacks, history lessons. I think he's part mountain goat, carrying an impressive amount of gear, food, etc. while wearing sport sandals. P.S. The downward, shearing pressure of the hiking boots can result in your toenail falling off, which happened to me. It's no big deal and not painful. I'm going to ask for a 10% off discount when I go for my next pedicure. Also Jeremy is an EMT. I'm a Nurse Practitioner so that really gave me peace of mind to know that he's equipped to handle a medical emergency, just in case. In fact, he had a better first aid kit than I did. When they tell you to train for your trip, do it. If you're in good shape, get in better shape. Since we booked the trip kind of last minute, I wasn't in the best shape to tackle this strenuous trail but I made it out! Overall it was an amazing and challenging trip and I highly recommend going with Four Seasons Guides. read more

We hiked the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim in August 2019. The trip exceeded our expectations in every way except one: We expected to be hot and miserable (it was 112F in the shade), and instead we were comfortable and had a blast! Our guide, Matt, was incredibly knowledgeable. He knew how to time everything such that we hiked in the shade most of the way. He also knew the best places to cool off in a creek or play in a waterfall. It was great at the end of the day to have somebody else set up camp and cook us a delicious meal, allowing us to soak up the grandeur of the Canyon. Even the advice on preparing for the trip (spoiler alert - it involves training) was spot on and made for an incredibly enjoyable, fulfilling experience. I would definitely recommend Four Season Guides, and specifically Matt. In fact, we are hoping to use them again on another trip soon! read more

Trip of a lifetime! I had been considering a Grand Canyon hiking trip for several years, but something always seemed to get in the way. After finishing my second year of medical school, I decided to pull the trigger and book the Havasu Falls 4-Day Trip with Four Season Guides. It was the absolute best decision of my life! From the very first moment I reached out to Four Season Guides, the owner, Dave, was extremely helpful and responded within hours to my million and one questions. As I was choosing to do this trip by myself, I was extremely worried, but Dave reassured me that it is quite common for people to do it on their own. He couldn't have been more right! At the orientation meeting, I met the two others going on the trip with me; we could not have been better matched!! After the trip, I felt that I left with two new lifelong friends!! We even talked about doing another trip with FSG together once I graduate medical school in two years. Our guide, Jeremy, went ABOVE AND BEYOND every expectation I had for the trip!! He made me feel safe but allowed us to challenge ourselves; he knew our limitations and allowed us to have the trip of a lifetime!! He cooked amazing meals and cleaned up after us throughout the trip - I felt bad for all the work he was doing while we were sitting back and relaxing!! Our guide, Brandon, took us to Havasu Falls and then two days kayaking through Black Canyon. It was amazing! He did such a great job of taking care of all our needs. He cooked all the food, which was fabulous. He was knowledgeable about the area and features. He was very safety conscious and aware of people's needs. I have done backpacking trips with them in Yosemite (ascended Half Dome), Utah (Coyote Gulch, Canyonlands, Natural Bridges, Grand Gulch, Boulder Mail Trail), Grand Canyon (Thunder River/Deer Creek), Clear Creek, Cottonwood , PhantomCreek/Piano Alley/Utah Flats, North Bass, Hermit). You name it, in the Canyon and Utah and Yosemite they do it. Wonderful guides, safe, great food (fresh vegetables 80% of a 5/6 day backpack), awesome owner and logistical support. We could not have been more impressed with Four Season Guides' quality of trip or the expertise of our individual guide, Jeremy Williams. He is an absolutely fantastic guide, and his knowledge of backpacking tips, cooking, Grand Canyon history, Arizona lore, etc. really made our trip. His scheduling seemed to always perfectly match the weather, our day trip to the Colorado river was fantastic, and the food was plentiful. I wouldn't hesitate before booking another four seasons trip, and I'd request that Jeremy be our guide. This is an update on an earlier review, our money was never refunded, and we received no services from this company. Hello everyone interested in Four seasons guides for your services. I wrote a review in the past, but wanted to update the review as it has been some time, and I wanted to give perhaps new information. Unfortunately this company did not return any of the 1600 dollars we gave them for a trip, that we gave as a deposit, and then had to cancel. I thought if some time had passed maybe a different outcome would occur, but no we are still out 1600 dollars. They have some odd rules, and even though we called far in advance of the trip they deemed our advance notice not in advance enough to get a refund. Essentially we left a message to them telling them we were going to have to cancel the night we thought the deadline was and that wasn't good enough for them. It was weeks before the trip, but they still kept all our money and did not refund any of it. I'm posting this update because it was a very negative experience. Their rules were not clearly communicated to us. They have said they offered to us to take the same trip for two years, but we live very far away and that wasn't a realistic offer. In my experience this company is not to be trusted and should be avoided at all costs. I cannot emphasis enough how much you should stay away from doing business with this company. When you plan a complicated trip like this the last thing you want to have happen is something like this. It's been years, and there has been no effort on their part to rectify the situation in any way. read more

I can not speak more highly of my experience with Four Season Guides. It's easy to give a five star review when everything goes perfectly, but the true measure of a guide is how he/she handles a challenge. I'm a National Park enthusiast and have always wanted to hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and stay at Phantom Lodge. I was one of six women, all over the age of 52, in our group, lead by Scott. Our trip was three days in mid-September and including hiking down and back to Phantom Lodge with a two-nights stay. We hiked the South Kaibab trail to the bottom of the canyon and back up Bright Angel. On the way down, one of our group members was overcome with heat exhaustion. Not only did Scott calmly and professionally address the situation from the first hint of the problem, but managed to successfully bring our entire group to Phantom Lodge, including the woman who was in distress. The remainder of the trip went like clock-work. Our distressed group member had no problem making the hike back up from Phantom Lodge. Her issues where heat related, not ability. Scott was informative, professional, friendly but with great boundaries. There were 5.5 million visitors to the Grand Canyon last year, 5% hiked under the rim, 1% to the bottom. If you are a National Parks person, it's worth the planning and training. If you want to use a guide, I can HIGHLY recommend Four Seasons! The perspective I gained from my experience has stayed with me and truly changed my life. I'm looking forward to returning to hike/trail run from Rim to Rim! read more
