They have plenty of floorspace, don't get me wrong, and they have a lot of inventory, most of it locked behind glass doors that you have to call a sales person over to open. Seated there for a couple of hours, I found that the place is kept at a temperature that is a bit too warm. Combine that with the lighting that is too stark and the lack of sound proofing that causes echoes to occur everywhere, and staying within the building for any length of time is not a pleasant experience. I get the distinct feeling that this is a storefront where they want you to come in, select something, buy it, and get out. I felt no sense of community in the store, no warmth (except for the heat), and no real welcomeness.

I didn't really have a goal in mind for what I wanted, so just going through the stacks and browsing to see if anything caught my eye was the basic plan. Lots of people lined up, but I got through the line pretty quickly. Inside, the books are arranged in a reasonable order, and the different sections are easy to identify, so finding areas that interested me was not a problem. Coming across the cooking section, I found that there were a number of smaller cookbooks that I like to term as "Wive's Club Cookbooks" which can be some of the best/most entertaining cookbooks you can come across due to the nature of the recipes that are contained in them. You never know what you are going to find in them, though recipes from the 1960's are prevalent and gelatin comes into heavy play. Good stuff there, and I stocked up on them. Overall, the Friends of the Library book sale is always a good thing to go to!

I have been by a few times when they were closed during hours they were supposed to open and have looked for tho ha I was sure they had, but did not. Really loved experience we had at house of collectibles. The owner, older gentleman named Mr…read more French., could not have been nicer and more helpful. And he has a few stories to tell. His son came in at one point and helped us with the purchase of some albums. They have albums that are open and albums that are sealed, and they have a lot of genres of music to choose from. I ended up buying a Pink Floyd album that I had been trying to locate and it was sealed. I didn't want to open it because that would decrease the value so I called back to see if they had an open copy which they did so I went back the next day and bought it. I don't know I could really explain everything that's in the store. Their books, paperback and hardback. But more than that, they have first edition, signed books by the author and kids books as well. You know what else they have? They have albums, but I already mentioned that. But what I didn't mention was I have three or four rooms of albums. They're on the floor. They're in boxes. They're on racks. So if you're looking for certain music, make sure that you leave yourself enough time to look.. They also have comic books. And trade paperbacks. And graphic novels. They have baseball cards. They have garbage pail cards. They have collectibles, figures, Star Wars, stuff. Yes, lots and lots of stuff . Thoroughly enjoyed shopping here and meeting Mr. French and talking to his son. I know this may not be everybody's jam, but for me I really enjoyed spending time browsing looking and yes, buying.

For me, there's just something special about a real book that you can hold in your hands. If I didn't have a hundred other things pulling me in different directions every day, I could honestly spend hours getting lost in a bookstore and reading all day long. Books-A-Million is one of those places that reminds me to slow down. It's easy to wander through the different sections, discover a title you never knew existed, or leave with a journal, puzzle, or thoughtful gift along with a new book. I love that bookstores like this still exist in a world that's insanely digital and unhealthy. Maybe one day, in my later years, life will slow down enough that I can spend entire afternoons curled up with a stack of books and nowhere else to be. Until then, I'll keep sneaking into bookstores every chance I get, because there's something about being surrounded by books that just feels like home.
