Called about wood. Had to look up address to verify delivery. Never called back. $1048 for 2 cords of wood delivered 4 miles away. 2 separate delivery fees since "truck couldn't fit". Looked before buying... freshly split. Wet. Pieces were well over 16". Moisture Meter unavailable due to it being gone / lost. Rude and unprofessional. Healthy mix of lies, ego, and incompetence. Go to Mailliard's Landing Nursery! This guy and his Hornary wife in the little window is just what they sell..... Dirt! We started going to Maillard's and they are genuinely friendly and sell much more than just dirt and rocks. They also have mostly raving reviews and have not called out, shamed, and ridiculed their negative reviewers by name like Eldon Baker does! Look anywhere online and find a business owner that acts that way and I'll show you a little Hitler that no one wants to do business with! If Crystal wasn't such a ..... there wouldn't be so many negative reviews for Eldon Baker to blindly defend. I wanted to add that I'm quite frank about the strengths and shortcomings of individuals or businesses while discussing these things. This business has a lot to offer and they know it is a logistic advantage they have on this island. A guy (or a gal!) can't go get some material anywhere else without a ferry ride or long drive which is why I don't deal with my wholesalers and my 8 yard dump trailer to bring product over for honey do projects. They seem to have good product and the loader king was quite fine to work with a short load into our perfectly legal and weight compliant suv hauler and the ONLY negative issues I struggled with were the call to investigate a vendor in our new community, and scale house service. I'm in 2-5 scale house scenarios in king and snoho counties every week and have almost never had this kind of treatment with the exception of a new staff member or similar. Every now and then you get a cranky one but this place would soooo much do better getting a new voice to deal with the front end operation. In fact they should go poach a nice employee from the nearby and awesome coffee stand to greet, sell, and take payments from folks that just want access to great product. What a pair of turds and a stain on the lovely Freeland community that we now call home on the weekends. The only negative experience we've encountered here on the island. Couldn't be less professional. Wouldn't communicate on the phone. They wouldn't give me my order in one load. 15 yards of lawn mix topsoil They were going to split it up in four loads, charging me a $69 delivery fee per load. I got on the schedule on a Friday with the understanding that I could call and cancel if I could find a truck to rent so I could save on all those delivery fees. On Monday they texted me asking if I had found a truck to rent. I didn't see the text until late that night. So I texted back saying that I had been out of town all weekend and hadn't gotten around to looking for a truck. I said I would do so first thing Tuesday morning. I woke up Tuesday morning to a text from them saying that they had given away my delivery spots on the schedule but they had spots for me the following week. I was understandably upset, but responded by asking to be put back on the schedule that I should never have been removed from, and I stated that they should have done a better job communicating before giving away my delivery spots. I didn't use any kind of foul language. They responded with a text saying sorry those spots are no longer available. We are unable to complete your order. I begged them to not stop doing business with me simply because I suggested they do a better job communicating. Now they simply won't respond. Don't use them. read more

Don't work with them. Go to Landshapers instead. If you read other reviews you will see that they frequently decide that you are not polite enough to be their customer, but they won't tell you this, They just flag your number, don't return calls. So months can go by while you are waiting for a delivery and then finally they say that they won't to deliver to your address. The receptionist is rude and ultra sensitive. Customer service from her is terrible. read more

When I went to the yard, I ordered Cedar Bark Mulch - Local Delivery's were free in the past now $10 - I ordered 3 yards and paid up front. The load looked small but I then ordered 3 more yards and again the load was small so I called it into question. I have bought materials for my yard for years from this place. They are always upbeat and friendly. Nice family runs the place. They have helped me figure out the right product for my project more than once. Very knowledgeable. Their materials are quality, and their measurements are the most accurate on Whidbey. I also really appreciate that I don't have to stand in mud when unloading my yard debris. Once I needed a specific type of rock, they were able to get it, but they were able to point me to another business off island that had it. Super experience every time I visit. Definitely recommend these guys! read more

We cannot and will not recommend this business. We have worked with them over the years and have done several thousands of dollars purchasing soil and gravel. We wanted to purchase soil and gravel yesterday but never got a return call for scheduling. This morning we called and as soon as they found out who it was they hung up. We then called back thinking perhaps there was a line glitch only to get the recording we no long accept calls from this number. We then called on our second line and got the same response. To make sure there wasn't a phone issue, we called our telco company to check and the very nice lady in customer service offered to call, on our behalf, to All Whidbey Topsoil to see if there was an issue. When a receptionist answered the phone, the lady identified herself and said that she had a customer on the line and could she transfer them to see about purchasing services and they hung up on her and they didn't know it was us on the other end. We have never experienced such poor customer service where we live. What business in these times of the slowing economy would do this passing up the opportunity of a $2,000 purchase for the sake of their egos? We have always had good luck with the drivers and delivery people and have appreciated the polite service we have gotten throughout the years. We were in business before retirement for several decades in the same area as this business and we never, ever treated our customers like this. We love Crystal and Eldon and their bustling business. There are signs to tell you where to park, where not to park to keep the busy flow going smoothly. Some people have a difficult time reading and park in the middle of the driveway and then retaliate when told to move by leaving silly review here. All Whidbey Topsoil is not concerned about customer satisfaction. Our rock delivery was significantly different from what was ordered and the owner showed no concern. His only offer was to charge me another $800 to take the delivery back. If I cannot trust this company to get the order right, and/or fix any problems then I cannot continue to do business with them read more

They are very friendly yet still maintain a very professional level with customers being so. Since the current operators have taken over a few years back they really have improved the business. Their selection of products and services offered has widened too an impressive level all the while offering higher grade of all products. They have grown and improved their fleet of heavy machinery and road trucks impressively. The beauty bark is top notch and their soils are almost weed free and thats hard to do. Even the appearance of the entire property has improved to very impressive levels. They are am ambitious and energetic company. read more

I spent ten minutes on the phone setting up what I THOUGHT would be a driveway repair/resurface. Someone called later that morning asking "what I wanted," then hung up on me when I expressed frustration with having to start all over again, saying "Try Andy's Landshapers." When I called back, I was told that my job was "too small" for them to bother with (a 25-foot-by-10-foot drive and 50 foot diameter turnaround). I wonder what kind of huge jobs they are finding on our little island? Anyway, I advise YOU to avoid such unprofessional and rude behavior--call anyone but these nasty people. read more

My uncle ran it for 20+ years & was very professional & did everything to make the customer happy. They say they have been in business for 20+ years problem is that is a lie... they have only been in it for about 8. the good reputation is now gone! I had them deliver 15 yds of gravel to our road - the road looks like a mine field!! Had to hire a tractor to even everything out just to get our cars out! Totally unacceptable! When I called them about it - they blamed me! WHAT? All I did was pay & expect a decent job. Andrews Landshapers here I come! This is an excellent company who has excellent soil and rocks. I ordered four yards of soil in the morning and they delivered the soil about two hour later! The driver placed the soil in three locations which saved me a lot of heavy shoveling and moving my wheelbarrow from place to place. The soil quality was excellent which made our gardens look very clean and attractive. The employees were very knowledge, friendly and helpful. I was so pleased I'm ordering additional soil to spruce up a real sore looking garden spot. read more

Here's my experience. Make of it what you will. Over the years that I've lived on Whidbey I have usually ordered materials through Andrews Landshapers. I've built a large house on 20 acres and order 5 to 10 loads of something each year. Some time ago I'd had a delivery of what I don't remember but it was a short load and I resolved to order only through Landshapers. (My neighbors said, "We told you."). In April of 2012 I mistakenly selected Whidbey Topsoil again! I ordered 20 yards of "Whidbey's Own Wood Mulch" - not bark. (Unit of measure (U/M) was a "YD/Scoop". Meaning that a scoop equals a yard?) It wasn't until I completed the call that I realized I had selected Whidbey Topsoil instead of Landshapers. I thought what the heck, maybe things have changed. I have a 580K with a .875 cu yd bucket so I would expect to get about 23 buckets from the order. I got 12. So even if I allow for an additional 3 buckets, I would still have been shorted at least 1/4 of the order. I called to complain and was told it was 20 yards but when I got home more had been delivered - they said another 6 yards, again it didn't look like it. I called to ask about the delivery and Crystal said her husband wanted me "to be happy." I appreciated that and it showed good business acumen. So in May of this year when I needed bark I called Whidbey Topsoil. She took the order and was confirming some information with her boss when she was told they "won't deliver to me anymore." Odd. To go from wanting to make sure I'm happy to get bent. I ordered 18 yards from Landshapers. I just finished spreading the pile and got 21 buckets = 18 yds.... just what I ordered. I'm happy. read more
