I've been meaning to write this review because without the assistance of Elaine and Melody, our…read moretrip to Beijing, X'ian, Shanghai, and Chongqing wouldn't have been possible! It was a lengthy process to get visas done, book plane & train tickets, and have private tour guides in 2-3 months time. But they made it happen! All accommodations were clean and modern except for Beijing. But when we mentioned it to Elaine about the condition of the room, she took care of the situation and we were moved to a better room the next day. Make note that many hotel upper floors are better maintained compared to the lower floors in China. Each city had an AYCE breakfast buffet that was beautifully presented and prepared. We were definitely well nourished and fed for trekking and sightseeing! In Beijing, we saw the Forbidden City, climbed the Great Wall, walked around the Hutong area and had great food. In X'ian, we saw the Terracotta Warriors and the excavation site and museum. Managed to find a good spot near our hotel that had crispy Roujaimo (Chinese hamburger). And we found thick winter coats for only $20 USD! What a steal! And with the snow unexpectedly falling while we were there, it was necessary! In Shanghai, we explored the city, saw Yu Garden area, saw the LV flagship store and a huge Starbucks, one of seven in the world, where you see the production of coffee beans being roasted. We visited a few shopping malls to purchase perfume and make-up as well. In this city, there's an unusual combination of beautiful modern skyscrapers along side Chinese and European architecture. In Chongqing, we entered ancient caves with rock carved buddhas, saw stone bridges made from nature, experienced city life where they built the city in levels going upward rather than miles across. Honestly, I'd get lost since GPS couldn't tell you what level you are on! So glad we had a tour guide and driver who knew the city well! It saved us time and energy since we did not have to navigate ourselves. And with a language barrier, it would have made it even more difficult. All our gratitude goes to Star Vacation for creating and planning the itinerary for us. It was a fast-paced trip only staying in each city for just 2-3 days each. Our trip was exactly 2 weeks and it ended in Hong Kong, where we explored it ourselves. It was an expensive trip, but it was experience of a lifetime and truly memorable. We wouldn't hesitate asking Elaine and Melody to plan another trip in the near future!

We had an idea for an itinerary of where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see. With Jack's extensive knowledge and experience of China, he helped put together a tour package that turned our travel vision into a reality. The package included everything from air travel to high speed rail, ground transportation in each city, hotel accommodations, and a private tour guide in each city. This allowed us to focus on the trip and absorb the culture, the people, the sights, visiting historical locations and enjoying local food. The guides were very knowledgeable about their city and the places we visited. Jack even checked in with us in every city to make sure everything was okay. This trip will always be memorable for my son and myself in many ways. Thank you Jack!

My girlfriend and I used Golden Time Travel when we wanted to take a vacation but couldn't get any time off. It's a great vacation option since you can be gone for literally months and return to the present only a moment after you left. Our first trip booked with Golden was pretty great. We wanted to get away to somewhere familiar so we went to San Francisco in 1905. It was real nice and the exchange rate was excellent, particularly because of inflation since then. The trolleys got us around real easily, and everyone was very friendly. We had a nice time staying at the Palace Hotel, and our bellhop, Edward, was wonderful. You can imagine our shock when, upon arriving home, we looked him up and found out he died the next year in the earthquake, along with the hotel which was destroyed in the ensuing fire. Very sad. I kind of wish we'd warned him now. The next year we saved up a bit and went to classical Greece. Golden Time Travel dropped us off and picked us up two weeks later without a hitch. My girlfriend has a lighter complexion, and though she got made fun of a bit for being a "barbarian"--several times we heard children chanting "bar-bar-bar" and making fun of our yet-uninvented tongue--the famous "Athenian hospitality" more than made up for it. Plus, those togas are surprisingly flattering. My only critique is that the cuisine left something to be desired. We forgot that this was pre-Columbian exchange, so no tomatoes, potatoes, chocolate, corn or avocados. Also, they hadn't quite figured out chemistry in that era, much less baking, so don't expect to be impressed with the pastries (no baklava yet). For our next trip we decided to check out the Bay Area in 2085. Now, I know this wasn't Golden Time Travel's fault, as they just provide the time machine, but this trip was an absolute disaster. Apparently Mark Zuckerberg is a robot fascist dictator in that year, and he forces loyalty through perpetual social surveillance. Well, it was really terrifying, and we spent most of the trip dodging the Google Civilian View drone copters that track down "nonconsumers" and install g-chips to catalog their brain. I know the contents of the future aren't the fault of Golden, but we would have appreciated some forewarning. They certainly have the technology.

As other Yelpers point out, it's definitely a service at a discount, no frills, and you have to be *really* explicit with your request. Don't leave anything up to chance, as I don't think they even have insurance (I bought my own). FWIW I think the Wild West and Ancient Egypt would be a blast, and who knows, maybe check out some dinosaurs? Note: they do *not* offer visits to the future.

Our names were not on the list, and we were simply told that the tour was already full. The employee who assisted us didn't even try to help. She made no effort to contact the company, look for a solution, or show any concern for the situation. Instead, she was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. What is even more disappointing is the terrible customer service this company provides. When customers face a problem caused by your business, the least they should expect is respect, assistance, and a genuine effort to resolve the issue. We received none of that. We were treated as if our problem did not matter at all. This experience completely ruined our day and negatively affected our trip. We had been looking forward to this experience for a long time as part of our wedding anniversary celebration, and it was heartbreaking to have it ruined because of poor organization and a complete lack of customer care. I also spent money on transportation to get there, only to be turned away without any solution or apology. This level of incompetence and disregard for customers is unacceptable. I do not recommend this company to anyone. Their lack of professionalism, disorganized booking process, horrible customer service, and careless treatment of customers made this one of the worst experiences I have had while traveling. Customers deserve much better than being ignored, dismissed, and left to deal with the consequences of a company's mistakes.

Thailand has been on our "bucket list" and being invited to a Thai wedding provided the incentive to make Thailand our next international destination. From the moment we contacted Irene, we knew were would be in good hands (was there any doubt?)! After providing responses to Irene's questionnaire regarding our interests and desires about Thailand (along with several emails, text messages, and phone conversations), she provided an excellent itinerary that included flights, private tours, private drivers to and from airports, superb accommodations, and expert guides. During our 5 nights in Bangkok, Irene curated a centrally located hotel in Bangkok, an informal food tour in Chinatown, and an exceptionally knowledgeable local guide to introduce us to the some of the most historically important temples in Bangkok and Ayutthaya. During our first 4 nights in Chiang Mai, Irene curated a modern-styled hotel minutes away from the legendary Night Market (a must experience). We had the pleasure of touring Chiang Mai and the hills of Doi Inthanon National Park with an experienced and friendly local guide. There is no substitute to having a local guide to provide insights and knowledge about Thai culture, food, and history. Additionally, Irene had arranged a private cooking class where we prepared 7 Northern Thailand dishes, all delicious!! Our last 3 nights were spent at the Onsen at Moncham, a Japanese-themed retreat in the mountains before returning home. Although Irene provided many options for our destinations/events and hotels, our itinerary was completely customizable and ultimately, our choice.
