We had the worst experience with this travel agent, Rosie Allara. We planned our trip to the Middle East - Jordan and Dubai. Both my husband and I have very busy schedules, we did not have time to do the planning ourselves, we needed a travel agent to do it for us. We clearly expressed it to Rosie. First red flag was on our first phone call. Our expectation for this call was that the travel agent would spend this call gathering information from us and asking questions about what we wanted this trip to be. Instead, after the initial couple of general questions, she started looking at prices of the hotels on her computer while we were on the phone and telling us what they were. After the first 15 minutes of this, we tried to steer her into what we thought the main purpose of the call was, but she would jump from one topic to the next and to the other and then back to looking at hotel prices again. It felt like she could not organize her thought process. Finally, after 45 minutes of being on the phone and being exhausted from a lot of jumping around and not being able to communicate to the agent in the organized manner, we decided to end the call with the agreement that we would communicate by email. Rosie started looking for the airfair for us. Her prices were very high and the flights she kept offering were at a very inconvenient hours - in the middle of the night or very early in the morning or with very long layovers that would make the flight unnecessarily long. We explained to her that we prefer more comfortable times and flights since it was going to be our vacation. That did not change anything. After a lot of back and forth, we felt a lot of stress and pressure where she would say that there was nothing else she could find from her wholesaler. Feeling between the rock and a hard place, we ended up going on-line and looking for tickets ourselves. We found a very good price on Priceline, 35% less expensive that her price with comfortable hours and flights. We told her and she was OK with us purchasing the tickets on our own. Now, we thought that the rest of the trip - hotels and organizing the itinerary would be fun and easy. Boy, were we mistaken. Rosie gave us an approximate/1st draft itinerary with some hotel suggestions. Being first time to the Middle East, we had questions about the itinerary and we did not like some of the hotels that she proposed. It would take her several days to respond to each email, and in her response she would ignore half of our questions. We had to send follow up emails, she would not respond for several days, then respond with half of the answers again. That was about the itinerary. When we asked for restaurant recommendations, entertainment recommendations, walkable streets where we could walk around in the evening, she would not know the answers at all. Her answer was "The information that I have is old and outdated, you can get this information from your hotel." Really? isn't it your job, as a travel agent, to have an updated information? Isn't this why we needed a travel agent so we don't have to scramble for this information when we are in a foreign country, not speaking the language. It was back and forth, we were running out of time, it was getting close to our trip time, we were not making any progress. She would not care about our time, she did not care about the information that we asked for. After 1.5 months, we felt that we did not accomplish anything, we did not get passed that first draft of the itinerary and unsuitable hotel recommendations. She did not complete a single thing for our trip. The only item that we had after working with Rosie for 1.5 months was the plain tickets that we purchased on our own. After depleting all our patience and being completely stressed out, we had to find another travel agent. Fortunately, he did a great job for us and we ended up having a great trip. As far as Rosie is concerned, even though she did not get anything done for our trip, she refused to refund the $300 fee that we paid her to prepare our trip. We believe that Rosie is completely disorganized and lacks knowledge in the travel industry. She indeed has outdated information from the time when she travelled to the Middle East herself 10 years ago. Even bigger problem is that she is not willing to do a new research and provide her clients with the new, updated information. If she is not interested in updating herself and all she does is re-use the same information year after year after year, she should not be in a travel industry that is constantly changing. In our case, we asked for a new information (like anybody else would), she just ignored us, did not respond to our emails, dragged her feet, ignored our questions, and wasted our time hoping that we would just go with it. Thanks to Rosie, my Mom and I had a lovely trip that was tailored to our wants, plus an extra touch! She set us up on the travel app that guided us in a very manageable way. We appreciate that she would take our calls and be there for us if we needed her. Her experience was really helpful as well, as I knew I wanted to see things in England, but she led us throughout the British Isles in a most fantastic way. Rosie helped my husband and me with a 9-day trip to French Polynesia (flew into Tahiti but stayed in Moorea and Bora Bora) for our 5-year anniversary. We were overwhelmed by the thought of how much it would cost and the logistics of finding the best dates, hotel deals, cheap airfare, and numerous boat and shuttle transfers... but Rosie came to the rescue! She made it easy for us! Rosie got us the most bang for our buck for this trip, using hotel specials that we wouldn't have known about otherwise. We even got to enjoy a complimentary breakfast buffet every morning, saving us a bunch of money. On our birthdays, we even got free birthday cakes! Rosie was so helpful from the very start and answered all of our questions both via email and telephone. All of our hotel/airport/ferry transfers went smoothly, too. Rosie also notified us of the latest travel warnings for French Polynesia, allowing us to prepare ahead of time. The only thing we did by ourselves on this trip was booking the excursions & activities. Though it's a little more work doing the research yourself, in most cases it was cheaper to book directly with the vendors rather than through a travel agency or especially the hotel concierge. I asked Rosie to look into booking a trip to Maui, because I was overwhelmed with all the choices of hotels/condos, etc. I was looking for airfare, lodging, and car rental. She was courteous enough on the phone and got me a quote within a day. She followed up with a phone call. But when I told her that I had decided to rent a house rather than go with a condo, she wrote me an email that asked that I compensate her for her time, a "modest $100 fee," and then continued to write the following: "I wanted to help you and I took a chance that if I did do the work on your behalf, you might give me the business. I would never ask you to do work for me without expectation of income for you. It's just courtesy. I know when it comes to my profession, people don't quite understand how it works these days but you asked at least two agents to do this work for you and we obviously both failed. I understand I really need to reserve my efforts for those who value my time and are willing to express that up front." --- I felt bad, as perhaps, I should have asked her if there was a fee, and regrettably gave her $50 but still feel completely swindled. She never mentioned anything about a fee for her services when I spoke to her on the phone. The two other travel agents that I have worked with, who have done "extensive work" to book 6 adults and 2 kids in the past have never charged me a fee and reassured me that they get compensated by commissions. If charging the customer is an expectation, it should absolutely be made clear at the beginning of the conversation. I wished I had read Euge L's yelp review of her from 3/26/14, before contacting her. But, I saw the 5 star reviews and contacted her. But it appears that this might be a pattern - offering to look up things for you, out of "courtesy," and then demanding compensation and chiding you when things aren't in her favor. Really distasteful way to run a business. It certainly leaves a bad taste in my mouth about contacting a travel agent in the future, and I didn't need the lecturing or condescension about "reserving my efforts for those who value my time...." If I were you, I'd find another travel agent who isn't so concerned about money and who doesn't get pissy and self-righteous should you change your mind or decide not to go with her. Or contact her and ask her what her fees are up front. I'm not writing this review to be mean - I'm writing it as a warning to those who may not realize that some travel agents DO charge a fee and may ask you for it even if it was never agreed upon. read more

Welp, my mom, sister and I recently needed to take a vacation. As trying to figure this out ourselves was an annoyance, I turned to Yelp to find someone to book a vacation for us, and Rosie did the job perfectly! Found Rosie on Yelp, went to her website and submitted an inquiry. A few hours later, got a phone call and we discussed in detail what we were looking for. She had a ton of great ideas, and we ended up booking the St. Regis in Princeville, Kauai. She took care of everything...back and forth emails re: flight arrangements for 3, hotel, and car rental. She even managed to get us free breakfast every day and a $1,000 resort credit at the hotel. But that's probably something that a lot of travel agents could do. Here's why I loved her. She had NO idea if I was serious or not about booking this trip when we first talked, and she was completely informative, weighed our options (this hotel vs that hotel, this island vs that island, etc) and knew everything there was to know about everything I don't know! Not to mention, she always answers the phone and responds quickly to emails. She, that is, not an assistant. Everything about Allara Travel is 5 stars and from now on, Rosie is my designated agent. We are experience travelers and never use a travel agent...but for a trip as expensive as going to Tahiti, we thought we should seek out an expert. We were so impressed with Rosie Katz and her incredible customer service. She worked with us to find the perfect property that fit within our price range. She suggested the insurance and it was great to have the assurance that if anything went wrong -which it almost did - that we were covered. My fiancee and I used Allara Travel recently to book a trip to Europe--because we needed an "open jaw" ticket where we started an ended in different cities. Prices for one way tickets to Europe--even through search engines like Kayak--are insane! We basically searched an online database to find the flight times we wanted to and Rosie booked them for us. I recently returned from my first trip to Mexico--not to the more popular tourist locations like Cancun or Puerto Vallarta, but rather to less-visited locations in the south of Mexico to get a flavor of the people, culture, and history. I had booked my flights in and out and needed to book accommodations. As it got closer to the departure date, I realized how difficult it would be to ensure suitable and reliable accommodations, being completely unfamiliar with the locations I was going. I knew not to rely on the hotels' websites, and the costs were within a very wide range--so hard to tell what I was getting. And I've learned not to rely on travel websites like Expedia and Travelocity, since they are not objective in their offerings, nor do they necessarily offer the best deals. So I decided on a travel agent, and after looking at local agencies and reviews, I called Rosie at Allara Travel and I'M SO GLAD I DID. Time was short and I told her what my preferences, hopes, and expectations were. She came back to me in time with an itinerary that fit the bill perfectly. She was straightforward: since I lean toward being a "budget traveler", she explained that the types of arrangements I needed were low commission, and charged a fee that I felt was reasonable and acceptable. She understood what I wanted and I had a great trip. And there was one small problem on the trip that needed adjusting--I didn't have phone service, but I emailed her and she took care of it right away. This review is overdue, and I promised Rosie to deliver. Last year, my husband and I needed help to get in a last vacation with our toddler before the next kid popped out of the oven. Having previously gone on an Alaskan cruise, we liked the experience and decided a Caribbean cruise out of Galveston might be doable. (Princess in Alaska did such a great job of handling our luggage [well, except for one attitude-laden snafu] -- good for seniors and preggos.) Criteria: Toddler-friendly, price-competitive, agent assistance with cabin booking (with info on upgrades), friendly for a pregnant mama. Having done some of my own research previous to my conversation with Rosie, we were ready to jump on a decent deal. My memory is fuzzier now with the time passed and the current lack of sleep, but Rosie was great in describing the pros and cons of the different cruise options (companies, itinerary, durations). She did warn us that Galveston is a port City not directly accessible by plane. A one-hour shuttle/bus ride would be needed -- between Houston and Galveston, I believe. We weren't quite sure our fiddly toddler would make such a ride enjoyable for any of us, but we were willing to try. We did mention that our toddler didn't yet have a passport (we had just decided going international was doable), and we would need to book a cruise a couple of months out so as to provide the U.S. Government time to process the passport. Rosie then emailed me almost immediately three options to try. They all looked good, and I was very impressed with the quick service and pricing transparency. Such a positive and nice voice to listen to. However, after reading further on the cruise industry, I found out their pregnancy restrictions are greater than for airlines. If I chose the right airline, I could have flown right up to labor and delivery -- a la Sarah Palin (supposedly.) But the cruise industry starts to clamp down in the latter end of the second trimester or the first part of the third trimester -- I forget which. (Can't even provide a doctor's note!) And that was our vacation slot, so there went that. Even though we couldn't follow through, Rosie was very sweet and professional to speak with. So usually we plan our own trip. This time, we are planning our trip to Tahiti and we thought we might wanna try travel agency. I called in with a little hesitation. But after I talked to Rosie, she changed my mind. She gives fair price and bonus offers. She always responses my email very quickly. There was a time she even replied my email after work. Rosie did an amazing job planning the flights and hotels for our honeymoon. We visited 10 countries over 7 weeks and had an incredible trip. She was always responsive, and really helped us find the best combinations of flights. I have been using Rosie, after my then travel agent quoted me an astronomical amount for our yearly trip to Hawaii. We had using this other travel agent for quite a few years, and I was wondering why the same trip had doubled even tripled from the year before, so I randomly went online and on a whim called Allara Travel to just see if she would quote me the same as my Travel agent. I spoke to a woman by the name of Rosie Katz, and the quote she gave me was $2500.00 less than what I had been originally quoted. Rosie is great, I have never even seen her or met her face to face, but I feel like we are pals. She is really great at what she does, she has traveled all over, is very knowledgeable and knows how to guide you in making your choices, she is able to put great package deals together, which I am convienced saves more money then doing everything yourself and separately. I trust that she is always going to work hard to find the best deal possible, yet make sure the places we go and stay are good, clean, safe quality vacation spots. I needed a travel agent for the first time in a zillion years, so of course I looked at Yelp and found Rosie. I sent her an itinerary to book, which she did quickly and efficiently. She went above and beyond by counseling me on a shady airline I had chosen for a flight between NZ and Australia. She suggested a much better airline for just a couple bucks more. I can only imagine the potential frustration she saved me by offering up that sage advice. She was "all business" in our phone calls, and doesn't sugar coat things or make you feel like she's your friend. But I didn't need a friend, I needed flights booked and she did that with excellence for a very reasonable fee. Being a seasoned traveler both for business and pleasure, I had never used a travel agent before. However, when we were planning our trip to Tahiti, we knew nothing about the destination and prices were very expensive. We felt it was worth working with a professional in this case. I interviewed several travel agents and ended up choosing Rosie at Allara Travel as she was by far the most knowledgeable about the destination. She knew things on our introductory phone call that the other travel agents did not, so I knew she would have to be the one we go with. Rosie did not disappoint. She helped explain all facets of travel in Tahiti, found great deals at the hotels, she spent over an hour with my wife and I at a local coffee shop so we could get a good feel for what to expect and how to plan, and she even had our travel docs delivered to herself as my wife and I both work and weren't going to be home to sign for the tickets when delivered. Rosie was also on call at night and on the weekend during our transit time in case anything happened with our connection in LAX. The vacation went off without a hitch, and we had such an amazing and memorable vacation. I cannot recommend Rosie highly enough. What can I say about Rosie? Well- let me start by saying that she's a wonderful woman who cares about her customers and their journey. I was planning a bit of an epic adventure to return to my homeland of Australia. After spending a Sunday trying to sort through the logistics of traveling through 4 continents I decided that I better reach out for some professional help. My first attempt was Gate1 travel. When I laid out my vision the response I got was "If you can look at what we offer on our site and try to work around the products we have I'd be glad to try to find the best flights but this current itinerary is not practical." Ok, next up- lets try more of a boutique agency that I know will get my full attention. Allara Travel was the first agent that I reached out to and after a brief phone call I sent across the same vision that I sent Gate1 (not trying to overly bash them). Rosie's response "I feel pretty confident that I can put together a trip that will fall within the (X-Y) price range .. I will work with you until we find satisfactory results and I will assist you all the way through your arrival in Sydney. You can contact me with questions and concerns during the duration of your travels." She came across as professional, experienced, courteous and caring. SOLD! After a few follow up calls and emails back and forth, my trip was booked one month later. SFO to Peru to Argentina to Brazil to Sth Africa to Zimbabwe to Kenya to Tanzania to Thailand to Australia. Rosie put together an amazing itinerary with tips on restaurants and To Dos on my trip. I was in each city/site for only a couple/few days here and there so there was a lot of bouncing around and I needed to pack in a lot of sites and sounds. There was a hiccup once along the way but Rosie took care of it immediately as she was always available. I got to see everything that I wanted and hoped for. Machu Picchu, Iguazu, Copacabana, Christ the Redeemer, Great White Shark diving, Two AMAZING Safaris (one white glove in Shiduli and one incredible serengeti camping experience), Victoria falls, relaxing on beaches in Thailand and then got me safely to my new home in Sydney. She'd constantly check in to see how things were going along the way and even threw me several likes on my FB/Instagram pics. That was just the icing on the cake :-) In all seriousness- I'm so very glad that I got to work with Rosie on my world odyssey back home. I wish I could give 10 stars! Just had my first experience with lovely Rosie and Allara Travel. My husband and I are going to Tokyo in just over one week and were having a terrible time trying to do it ourselves and find hotel reservations in Tokyo. Everything was completely booked probably due to the Cherry Blossom Festival and we thought we were going to have to stay way out of the city. On a whim, I searched Yelp for great travel agents and Rosie was highlighted as one of the very best in San Francisco.
