I have been a member of Allegacy since I was 12, I'm 35 now. I have three separate accounts with them. Lately I've noticed that their customer service is awful. It is almost impossible to get an actual human on the phone, and the robot assistant is awful. Trying to buy a car today I was told I wouldn't be able to spend more than $3000 from my checking account. When I requested to increase that pay limit they told me I couldn't do that through the app and that a supervisor would have to call me back and it would take up to 30mins. 4 hours later, I finally received that call back. Mind you this was after I drove an hour to the dealership and sat with them for 3 hours and had left because I could not get anyone at Allegacy to answer my calls. Seriously looking into moving to a new financial institute. read more

This review is about phone help. I called, got a phone tree, had to select several options to finally get into a queue to wait 20 minutes to speak to someone. After another 5 minutes of ID checking, I finally got to ask my question, only to find I had to go on-line myself (which I had already done). What I needed to click was grayed out, and it took an on-line chat to finally find out where the "hidden" page was to change that. Very time consuming, frustrating, and unnecessarily complicated since all I wanted to do was opt for digital statement delivery!! I did get to hear a recording of how important my call was to them, so I suppose that's something? I should say that I finally got it resolved. read more

I've been with them for several years now. Consistently, they block transactions! We went through a recent bathroom remodel and Allegacy did everything they could to throw a wrench in the process each time we attempted to purchase materials. In the end, their tactics actually held up our construction time for a disabled veteran. Now, I've attempted to pay cash via my Allegacy debit card for a new cellphone due to my old one breaking beyond repair. I have contacted Allegacy at least FOUR TIMES and not until the fourth call did someone have the common sense to notify their fraud dpt.! The vendor tried repeatedly to process my payment to no avail. With their "update," I am now treated as a subaccount instead of a joint account because my husband was the one who originally opened the account. This means I cannot access documents and statements; I cannot access on-line bill pay unless I re-do all of the bill payees I had been using prior to the "update." They also wiped out 10 months' worth of budgeting information with the "update" with no warning, meaning that, as a small business, we are scrambling to replicate hours of work. The new budgeting app is MUCH worse. We also find that we cannot access statements prior to July. Even before the "update," we find that they place a hold on our deposits for several days, whether the deposit is from a large company or not, unless we go inside the bank (not the drive-through) to deposit our account. While customer service representatives have been friendly, they give conflicting information and/or acknowledge the issue but cannot address it. If I could give zero stars, I would. Allegacy is the Hotel California of Credit Unions. "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave." I moved out of state and closing my account was a frustrating exercise. I could not do online cancellation of automatic ACH transfers and was told I could not close the account until that happened. I had to wait for a slow response to the request to cancel the ACH deposit to my Allegacy account. If you have ever tried to navigate through the Allegacy phone contact labyrinth to reach a real person, it amazes me how many times you are thrown back into a loop of automated assistant. The online capabilities are poor and what should be a simple process became an exercise in frustration. And if you use Zelle or Venmo, forget it. Allegacy is not set up to accommodate those common services. I would avoid doing business with Allegacy. read more

Allegacy Credit Union is a joke and only cares about your money. I only have this account because my online account with Discover Bank doesn't work with apps such as Circle, Cash App and etc. I have a photography business where customers send me money through these apps. In addition, I have small bills up towards $50 dollars coming out of this account and my boyfriend ended up swiping this accounts card and it went into the negative $12 dollars. They charge me a $34 fee then $5 on top of that. Again, I wasn't paying this account much attention because I don't use it, so those $5 added up everyday. Well, I called because my account has never been in the negative and you know what Shirley said to me? We will take off the $5 daily charges but not the $34. For someone who has good credit and never been in the negative, you can't forgive a one time fee? She kept saying we can't forgive the one time fee of $34 because I should have managed my money. I get it but again I'm only human and admitted that it was an honest mistake. But I hope anyone that is going to open an account with Allegacy never makes an honest mistake because they are money hungry and don't care. Opened a checking account online. Waited several days for a debit card to arrive. Called the support center and couldn't reach a live person but left my phone number for a call back. After 3 days with no call i tried again & held 15 minutes until someone answered. They mailed my ATM card to an address they had in their system from 2003!! Seriously how does that happen. Their solution? We will send out a new card within 7-10 days. Me: no thanks i will go close my account in person. I have been very understanding with covid but the people at this bank was so rude. I wanted to open an account for a minor because she is getting a job and needs a bank. We had to sit in a hot car and wait. The other offices have the lobby open but this one has chosen to close the one they have even tho nobody else was in the bank and it's a large space. The reviews on this bank are consistent. My father banked here and when my mother passed he changed the benificiary to myself as the executor of his will. As my father moved under Hospise care he called to validate these changes were made to his account. Now that he has passed they are still showing my deceased mother as his benificiary. The bank upon learning of my fathers passing locked up his account and is now turning it over to the state. My family and I are now being forced through probate court and pay for a lawyer to be able to collect the funds. Do yourself a favor and find a better organized bank. read more

I love my local branch, in King, but every now and then I'm closer to the branch on Peace Haven. This will not be the first complaint I've written for this location. After walking into an empty lobby, and waiting for the teller to appear from the drive thru area, and waiting for her to pause when she saw me and continue her conversation, she makes her way to her station, I finally hear "can I help you". It just went down hill from there. I was depositing a pay check and cash. I asked that they be deposited separately, because the cash had nothing to do with my job. She shook her head and told me that at the end of the day, the total deposit will appear in my account. Since I didn't arrive at the bank on the short bus, I know this. I had a reason for this request and tried to explain. She cut me off and told me I was the boss, they were there to serve us, blah blah blah. All while sounding like my lazy teenager when he's smarting off at me. I thanked her, said I hear what you're saying, but you're tone is saying otherwise. She made the deposit, like I requested, but also behaved like a child that didn't get their way. Heaven forbid, that a customer came in and interrupted her important conversation and the nerve of me to know what I'm talking about and to actually ask for what I want. As my momma used to say, someone needs an attitude adjustment. Bottom line, I didn't come into the bank to hear what you think you know. I got help right away, didn't even have to fill out paperwork, had a competent & friendly employee and didn't have to worry about a time limit to get my deposit done. Allegacy Credit Union is a joke. I've only been associated with them for like 6 months. In that course of time, first they sent me a late payment notice on my car loan. Ends up they deposited, rather than apply to the loan, a monthly payment (the loan number, etc. was clearly identified on the check from our bank). This was not the initial payment, so previous ones had been processed correctly. When I asked how they would insure this problem didn't repeat itself, I was told they couldn't give that assurance "because this happens every once and a while." Now, I go to sign into my account, to review the loan, and it has been inactivated. They inactivate any account ("for security reasons") which has not been accessed for 60 days, so that means basically going through a reactivation process. WTF? I deal with financial institutions which probably could buy and sell Allegacy in hours, and they seem to not have a security problem leaving accounts active for years. Oh, and plan on sitting on hold, for a lengthy period of time, if you try to contact their Customer Service. When this loan is paid off, guess which credit union with which I will NOT be doing future business. I also deal with Self-Help Credit Union, and they seem to excel. read more

Absolutely do not do business with this company. If there was a way to give negative stars their rating would be worse. Send check in for payment at first of the month. Get a call after payment is due saying they haven't received the payment. They in turn want me to pay a credit card fee to pay it. After telling them payment has been sent for two weeks they say it is the mail carrier fault. This is pretty much the past year and half month to month deal. After making multiple questions about setting up direct payments they told us it would be additional charges for doing that. Finally one person that called said a direct pay doesn't charge. Seems like a company of incompetent employees. After setting up their direct payment they failed to pull the payment out. They call me due to a supposedly late payment even though it is setup for direct electronic payment they reported it as a missed payment. First supposed missed payment in 3 years. read more

So went to the other location on Hanes Mall Blvd. Took 25 minutes to get up to automated teller and there was a machine that was so difficult to use that I bolted. They should have had someone out there showing us how to use machines that had no clear instruction. I have been an Allegacy for almost 40 years. My daughter bought a home through their mortgage department. This was one of the most stressful events that I have ad to deal with. They need to hire people that are capable of closing loans. To say they were unqualified is an understatement. I have never dealt with anything like this. we live out of State and had a nightmare experience. We sent checks to the head office for deposit, which they lost, resulting in costs to stop them. They offered no solution, so we asked to close the accounts (and send us the balance, whatever that was). Six months later we got a letter that we had to pay account fees. We gave written instructions to close the accounts and the answer? The letter was not received! I never heard such a BS story. They blamed these losses (the checks, the letter) on the postal services. We never experienced one piece of mail lost, and AFCU manages to loose two in less than 4 months! We have worked with our CU here without any wrinkle for e decade and AFCU really messed it up made a very poor impression. We will not work with them again ever. read more

We were first introduced to Allegacy by a car dealer in the Winstom Salem area. We needed some financing, and they said they had an excellent choice to offer, a membership with Allegacy. We said ok, since we've never had a membership with a credit union, thinking it could come handy one day. Everything went pretty much normal with our car loan. Interest was not that bad. And besides a couple of checks lost from my Online Bill pay service (according to them, since it has never occurred with anybody else), and having to run to a sister credit union branch to make payments personally, it went pretty much smooth. We finished paying off the vehicle. Time came when we decided to build a house, and to save money we used our credit cards promotional balances. We knew it was risky, but we just didn't have the extra $30K to hire a builder for our project. We tried to use Allegacy for a construction loan. They said no, since one of the requirements was to use a licensed general contractor. Ok. We understood that. After initiating the project, we thought of using them for a debt consolidation loan, since we were getting close the end of the promotional balances on our cards. They said no. Too much debt. And honestly, we knew it was a long shot. Our original goal was, once the home was finished, refinance with cash out, so we go back and pay the credit cards used. But this time we realized how poor customer service Allegacy has to offer. First person who dealt with our application was nice, in the Davidson, NC branch. After 3 days she said she was going to take a leave and the application was going to passed to somebody else. That person rarely communicated. A couple of emails and that was it. A month later we received a letter from Allegacy saying we were denied. We figure, well. maybe since they didn't see a big deal of probability to get approved they didn't care that much. After we finished our home we applied for a refinance loan, through their website, as we were told by a representative over the phone. The system assigned our application to a loan officer, Jennifer C. We felt like literally we had to chase her down to get answers about our application, after days of awaiting a response. Never took the initiative to contact us. At that point to had enough of feeling like we were pulling a tooth from this financial institution and we decided to look for other options. Some said they could not help us, after carefully reviewing our case, but their customer service was extremely good. Like Quicken loans for example. And finally, we found one that was able to work our application with success, Fairway Independent Mortgage, their service has been excellent. After this experience, we could say that a membership with Allegacy Credit Union is worthless. Their customer service, besides the reps that tried to get you use them, is close to zero. None. Never before have we been given such a terrible customer service by a financial institution. read more

We had a HELOC with Allegacy FCU which has since been paid off and closed. I was told that letter of satisfaction would be mailed out in a month or two. Four months later still no confirmation of the payoff (we live out of state so I thought I would give them a little more time). I finally decide to contact them to check on the status of the confirmation. I was told the letter was mailed out three months ago...I never received it. I asked for it to be sent again, and was told they can't as it was their only copy??? I was told that they have no access to the records in the State that I live in. This is absurd as all I want is a letter stating I paid off my HELOC. I have worked in the banking / finance industry for over 10 years, and Allegacy is simple incompetent. They freeze my card for suspected fraud at the same places that i frequent multiple times (they've frozen my card before at the same place that shows up on my statement which i don't get) and it's impossible to get someone on the phone to assist and when they do they're very incompetent and speak with an attitude like they're the upset customer. Allegacy has always taken care of my needs. I have never ran across an issue. I would never try to finance a home through them. I just feel a bank, instead of a credit union would be much better source. However; I have finance automobiles through Allegacy in which my service was great. I have had several loans in the past with no issues. I relocated to another city so I have to use credit union service center. I call in when needed no big issues except for longer wait times lately. read more

If zero stars were an option.... The mortgage department is horrible. Our credit worthiness is not an issue. We were buying an investment property and went to them because I have banked with Allegacy for over 30 years. It took them over 3 weeks to give us a pre qualification letter (we were only asking for a third of what we qualified for) so we missed the first property. On the second property it took them almost 60 days to close it because their mortgage/underwriting department is horrible. On day 45, they were asking for clarification on items presented on day 1 so we missed our closing date 2 times. We finally had to say do it or don't do it but we need to know by today at 5. They said ok. Then, we're sitting at our closing and they say they won't put 3 people on the deed. There's 3 investors and only 2 are on the loan. They also knew this from day 1 and the closing attorney said this is insane. For the people are trying to do business, go somewhere else!!!!! read more
