Disappointed. I was going to get Invisalign but when I asked too many questions about the contract, they refused to perform the procedure on me and refunded my "non-refundable" deposit (likely because they were worried I would sue them if the procedure failed). There were many inconsistencies between what the dentist had told me to my face vs what was written in the contract. For example, they told me to wear the aligners for 18 hours a day minimum, but the contract said 22 hours. The contract also said I had to wear the aligners for 1 year minimum but the dentist told me 5 months. The contract would have forced me to allow Invisalign access to my medical and dental records for educational and research purposes, which I did not want, and the dentist said there was no way to edit or alter the contract. I did not question her on this and I tried to move on to my next question. She wouldn't let me ask any more questions. The dentist felt that I didn't trust her simply because I wanted clarification on some questions regarding the Invisalign contract. That is correct, I do not trust a dentist who is unwilling to answer a few questions about her own contract. (Plus she didn't have the courage to come tell me herself, she had her assistant deliver all this information). Seems fishy to me. I will be telling my family and friends to drop her. read more

So sad. I came to Allen Creek Dental because of reviews that recommended Dr. Michelle Johnson and this practice as outstanding for patients with excessive stress/injury from poor quality practice in their history. First appointments supported this recommendation . . . THEN, suddenly Dr. Johnson created very stressful terrifying environment while I was helpless in the chair at 4th cleaning appointment. She had forgotten and failed to provide any accommodation as she had promised. DR. MICHELLE JOHNSON BROKE EVERY PROMISE. When she WOULD NOT STOP the terrifying, I ran and then received the patronizing termination letter. DO NOT USE THIS PRACTICE IF YOU HAVE BEEN MISTREATED OR HAVE DENTAL FEAR. I don't post many reviews. There's an old saying, "Make someone happy, they'll tell ten people. Make them unhappy, and they'll tell 100." Well, I'm not happy. I had been seeing a terrific dentist in CA for over 10 years. Root canals, fillings, crowns and teeth cleaning. But I recently moved to Grants Pass and needed to find a new dentist to do a simple teeth cleaning. I got a "Welcome Wagon" postcard from Allen Creek Dental and called to make an appointment to get my teeth cleaned. In California, I paid $70, so I assumed that the cost would be close to that. They sent me a ton of paperwork to fill out before my appointment. I was a new patient, so that was reasonable. When I arrived, I asked if they accepted Medicare (I'm recently retired and am still relatively unfamiliar with what exactly Medicare covers). They said that they did. They took me into a room, sat me down, and started prepping me for dental X-rays. Huh? I told the tech that I just wanted to have my teeth cleaned, that I recently had X-rays at my previous dentist. I offered to have them sent to Allen Creek Dental, but she told me that "we do X-rays on all new patients" and that it was mandatory if I wanted my teeth cleaned. I reluctantly agreed (I'm not a huge fan of having radiation shot into my head). After the X-ray, Dr. Johnson came in and said hi, tilted my chair back and started examining my mouth. After a few minutes, I realized she was doing a pretty extensive exam. I stopped her and said "I think there may be a misunderstanding. I just want my teeth cleaned. You've already done X-rays - which I didn't want or need - and now you're doing an exam?" Dr. Johnson stopped, pulled off her gloves and asked curtly, "Do you want to leave?" "No", I said. "But I came for a teeth cleaning and you and your staff are doing some pretty intrusive stuff here. I just feel uncomfortable having you do things that I didn't ask for and don't need, with no explanation. And my appointment was for 9am (I am NOT a morning person) and it's after 10 and you haven't even started cleaning my teeth." She said, "Before we can clean your teeth, by law we have to do these things." I felt uneasy, aggravated, and frankly, I felt violated. None of this had ever been explained to me. I'm an information guy, so had any of this been explained to me, I probably would have been fine, or at least would have been able to make an informed decision as to whether or not I wanted to do any of this. She asked again. "Do you want to continue?" I replied, "Yes, I want to have my teeth cleaned." She finished her exploratory mission in my mouth, and sent me on to get my teeth cleaned. Earlier, I asked about having them whitened, but after the drama I'd encountered, I just wanted to have my teeth cleaned and get out of there. The hygienist was affable, pleasant and chatty, and her work was good. As I checked out, I asked about my bill. She said "Oh we'll bill your insurance." Having taken my info earlier, I assumed that they'd bill Medicare and that I would pay any difference or deductible, if any. A month and a half later, I received a bill in the mail from Allen Creek Dental for my teeth cleaning. The bill was - wait for it - $319! It included (of course) the procedures that I hadn't asked for and assumed were included with my teeth cleaning. To top it off, the teeth cleaning alone was $140! I am not indigent, but that's twice as much as I've ever paid anywhere ever. The other $179 was for the unwanted X-rays and a full dental exam. I called the dentist, upset and feeling violated yet again by Allen Creek Dental. I left a long, angry message (I'm not usually an angry guy) explaining that I wasn't comfortable paying for services that I'd never wanted, and could they please call me back to sort this out. It took three days for them to return my call, and when they did, I told the woman in billing that I'd agree to pay $140 for the teeth cleaning, that none of the other expenses were something I wanted nor asked for. She said no. She offered me a 5% senior discount. She would do nothing else for me. I'm not going to allow my credit to be ruined by some collection agency, so I told her to send me a revised bill and that I would pay it...which I did. I've found another dentist, and he's awesome. When he asked me if I had had an exam or X-rays recently, I told him I had. He told me that he could use those records. I called Allen Creek - once again getting a service - and asked if they could send the records and call me to let me know that was done. Crickets. They may have sent the records (checking tomorrow), but it would have been nice if they let me know. It's hard enough going to a dentist in the first place. Allen Creek Dental made it even harder. Bottom line: Pricey. Misleading. Attitude. There. I've told 100 people. read more

Went to her for over a year with no issues, then when it came time for her to do a procedure on my daughter she refused to do it with putting her under sedation, which insurance does not cover and would cost over $200 extra. Asked her if she could just call in a prescription for our medical plan, which would be covered (the Dr. who performed her root canal was able to do this) but she refused. Leaving my daughter with a temporary filling that because of their schedule was already at the end of its recommended time. We also have a credit on file, which I have been waiting for a refund on for over two months. Have called multiple times only to be told it should be sent to us soon. read more

An outstanding dentist, backed up by a tight group of assistants, hygienists and office staff. Dr. Johnson has, and uses, the latest tools, including eyeglass-microscopes and an array of anesthetics. APPROACH WITH CAUTION!!! My own wonderful dentist of about 25 years recently retired and I needed to find someone new and local - I had been traveling back to Sonoma county in California after I moved to the Applegate for treatment for years until he retired. I went to "Dr" Johnson for very intense mouth pain affecting all the left side and which was also was giving me migraine level headaches. After an exam, in which she seemed to have a hard time figuring out what was causing the problem, and based on a comparison of x-rays from my old dentist and ones they took she concluded that a very vague anomaly was the cause and that an upper tooth (#14) was the likely culprit. She recommended me to the specialist next door to her, to do a root canal on that tooth. There was no further follow up by her or her office even though the first appointment I could get with the specialist was a week out. She did not prescribe anything to help with me pain management or, more importantly, an antibiotic... most issues leading to a root canal are infection based. They didn't even mention my coming back for a crown after the root canal; if I hadn't been through the process before (with only a small fraction of the pain I was currently experiencing) I wouldn't have even known to set that up. There was zero guidance by them - my last doctor coordinated all the appointments and so I expected the same thing here, quite in error. The appointment with the specialist was on a Tuesday, exactly a full week after seeing Johnson, so I toughed it out during the week but then over the weekend the condition seemed to get nothing but worse... thank goodness I had some stronger painkillers on hand left over from a previous root canal only 6 months earlier. By Monday morning the pain was skyrocketing and now my lip and chin were going numb and my left throat was swollen (due to infection). I communicated with my old dentist and he said I needed "to be seen ASAP" so I did something I've never done... I went to a doctors' office (the specialists) without an appointment and was there when they opened for the day - I was that desperate. Since another patient had less of a procedure than what was scheduled they were actually able to do the root canal that morning, a day earlier than scheduled. However, now I'm faced with still more pain due to the advancement of the infection that Ms Johnson did not treat or seek to prevent. She also MISDIAGNOSED which tooth was the problem; turned out to be lower tooth, #18. For her misdiagnosis and lack of follow-up care I was charged $199.50. There's nothing I resent more than paying someone who makes my problems worse. Also, I did hear her mention to the front desk person to "make sure I get the referral [fee]" from the specialist. I guess I know where her priorities really are. And... to top it all off I see that TWO reviews of her on Google with 4 stars were left by 2 different EMPLOYEES, Tisa and "Han B". What a racket! Obviously, I found someone else to do the crown. Other reviewers have said, "they are so friendly there"... I would have to say that friendly incompetence is still incompetence. Not once, not twice, but three times I've made the mistake of coming back to this office. They are very kind and sweet gals, but have continued to make clerical errors and wasted a lot of my time. Three times I have been completely misinformed on insurance coverage. All three times I've talked with them over the phone, set up this or that, and gone into the office only to walk right back out without getting anything done. My own fault for going back, but definitely won't make that mistake again! read more

I'd like to take this time to say that I sincerely appreciate the wonderful staff that Dr.Michelle Johnson has assembled. From the moment you walk in to her office you feel like you're home. Tissa and Hannah her office managers were very friendly. The location is seated above the Allen Creek which is beautiful to look at while you're there. Kasandra did all my Digital imagery (X-rays) and was fantastic to work with. She made the process fun considering I've just become a new patient and needed a full work up of X-rays. Kim my new hygienist is awesome and very thorough. By the time I was ready to meet the Dr. I felt I had definitely received a great referral to this office. I had just moved here from the Napa Valley and I've had the same dentist for 31 years. As you can imagine it's scary to think about someone new after all these years but,I'm so glad she and her staff are my dental care providers.
