I so love Dr. Cory Johnston and his staff! Had to have 2 crowns done. Not only was it painless it was done in a timely manner. I love that they were able to show me what they would be doing, from the 3D x-rays to the making of my crowns. I love they were concerned for my comfort and that I was aware and comfortable with what they were going to do, BEFORE they did anything. The final stage was sending me home with excellent verbal instructions (repeated to me at least 3 times so I would remember) of what to do for sore gums, types of food to eat and avoid for the next few days, and if I needed an adjustment to call right away. I can honestly say my gums around the the crowns were tender, but not sore and I am so very pleased with the end results! It made me a little sad to think, I'd only see these wonderful people only 2 times a year. For me that is a first. Love my forever dentist and staff! read more

A motorcycle accident turned some of my bottom teeth into chicklets and rearranged my teeth generally. It was brutal. Then, Dr. Johnston swooped in like a teeth fixing superhero and saved the day. I am sooo happy with the results. He somehow added onto the partial teeth that I had left and made them look like nothing ever happened. Then, we did the clear braces thingy and shifted the teeth to their proper place. Plus, Dr. Johnston is just a cool person to be around and made me feel comfortable (and I hate going to the dentist). I don't recommend motorcycle accidents...skip that part...and I absolutely recommend Dr. Johnston to make your smile perfect. read more

Six months ago, I would have given Johnston Dental Care five stars, but now, not only am I significantly reducing my rating, I am no longer a patient. Obviously, this is a hard pass, so it's important to explain why I'm rating this practice the way I am. Back in November, I went in as a new patient, first for an exam, and then a few weeks later, for a teeth cleaning. I found everyone super friendly with state-of-the-art equipment, including comfortable chairs and some terrific videos to watch while my teeth were being cleaned. The prices were comparable with my old dentist, and because I paid in cash, there was a five percent discount. Woo WHO! So it was a no brainer for me to make my next teeth cleaning appointment, which would be in June. Now, let's fast forward to that date, just a few weeks ago. COVID-19 is raging here in Oregon, and to help curb its spread, the ADA (American Dental Association) has issued very specific guidelines for its member dental practices to follow. These guidelines are not required, but are very much URGED by the ADA. (The guidelines are also similar to what the CDC is asking other medical practices to do, and according to its website, Johnston Dental is an ADA member.) Guidelines include having every patient use hand sanitizer when entering the office, having the patient have his or her temperature taken with a contactless thermometer by a dental employee, filling out a pre-screening health application before that, and waiting in one's vehicle upon arrival, then texting the dental practice to make sure that there are a very limited number of patients in the reception area. Once the patient texts his or her arrival, he or she waits in her car to be summoned inside. Also, masks for required for everyone -- both patients and employees of the dental practice. **NOT ONE OF THESE GUIDELINES** was being practiced when I arrived. There was only a flyer on the door saying that strong sanitizer was being used on counters and other surfaces. THAT WAS IT. Also, the few patients I saw arriving and exiting wore no masks. Also, no one asked me about my health, no one took my temperature, and no one offered hand sanitizer. NO ONE IN THE FRONT OFFICE WAS WEARING A MASK. Because I really, really like this practice, I thought I'd wait and see if my hygenist would come out to greet me wearing a mask, or at least a shield. Nope, no face covering of any kind. I asked her why she wasn't wearing a mask and she cheerfully replied, "Well, they're not required!" At this point, I walked out. I was able to find a new dentist in the same town who practices every single ADA guideline, and am looking forward to my appointment later this month. To not practice even **ONE** ADA guideline when more than 130,000 Americans have already died from this virus is more than unsettling. In our little rural county alone, the number of COVID-19 cases has gone from 26 to 62 in TWO WEEKS. Finally, this lack of not adhering to any guideline also made me wonder how many other things Johnston Dental has chosen to ignore. Are the tools being properly sanitized? Are the capes clean? Are the chairs that patients are using thoroughly cleaned between patients? I'll never know. But now, I don't need to. read more

Billed over $ 1100 for cleaning and x-rays got the bill in on Monday then Wednesday got a letter saying my account is past due, I am so disappointed, called and asked why the bill so much your insurance doesn't cover what we did, sorry Bo you want to pay your bill now? read more

So had you asked me a month ago, I would have given 4 stars; I have had several appointments that I have had to wait over 30 minutes after my appointment time, but the dental care was very good so I overlooked it (they also gave me in and out gift cards for my trouble). However, this week I received a bill claiming I owed several hundred dollars. I always pay in full after my app. to avoid this. But I got it, before I had a chance to see if this was actually owed or a mistake they sent a LATE PAYMENT letter three days after I received the bill- which was for work done MONTHS ago. The billing gal was rude, and no help. Fired them on the spot. My advice- avoid the billing headaches they will impose on you. Hindsight I should have left after I waited 30min.s for my appointment. I've been a Johnston Dental Care client for five+ years. For me personally, dental hygiene & preventative care is super important. Many years ago, I saw my mother go through painful difficulties with her teeth. Staying current with cleanings, et cetera is a must. Everybody that works in Johnson Dental Care from the secretaries to the dentists are all extremely friendly and do a very good job at whatever they do. This is a sad story of a large well known dental group practicing for many years in a small town that is fraudulently billing both their patients and their insurance companies! Although I've come to realize this is not a rare occurrence; and it's not uncommon for some dentists to "over diagnose" problems with patient's dental health and then charge for procedures that are not strictly necessary; the Johnston Dental Practice has taken this to even further extremes; knowingly putting monetary greed ahead of their patient's welfare. To begin with, I have to say that their office is stunning, their waiting room is beautiful with gorgeous furnishings and a large cozy gas fireplace. You couldn't ask for more elegant, well put together surroundings. In addition, I always found their staff to be friendly, professional and accommodating. I felt lucky to be a patient of theirs for last 2 1/2 years. So when I was told at the beginning of this year that they were no longer accepting my insurance, and I had to either change insurance to a carrier they contracted with or find a new dentist, I was more than than happy to change from Delta Dental, to CIGNA Insurance. Unfortunately this is when everything fell apart. Both my husband and I were getting routine what is called "prophy" adult cleanings done by their hygienist for the last 2 years. However my most recent cleaning which was covered by my new insurance did not go through and was denied by CIGNA. After a lengthy process of trying to find out from both the office and from CIGNA what had happened, I discovered that from our first appointments - 2 1/2 years ago - both my husband and myself have been misdiagnosed with "periodontal disease"! This disease comes along with a protocol involving a close relationship between the dentist and the patient with special, more frequent, and more involved cleanings - most commonly every 2-4 months, called "periodontal maintenance". PERIODONTAL MAINTENANCE IS CHARGED AT A SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER RATE. (It should be noted here, that neither myself nor my husband has EVER been diagnosed with periodontal disease nor have we had periodontal maintenance procedures done on us in our lifetime, and NEVER at Johnstons Dental. Our cleanings were routine Prophys and spaced 6 months apart.) CIGNA does not cover Periodontal Maintenance. However, after pulling all my old bills together from the last 2 years , I found out Delta Dental DOES cover this procedure and it turns out they paid Johnstons Dental for ALL our dental cleaning for 2 years ! Again - procedures that were never done on neither myself nor my husband and based on a diagnosis that neither of us had! This is been a long drawn out process of phone calls made by myself and my husband on 4-5 separate occasions to the office at which point we were told the office, including the hygienist and the dentist were too busy to address our concerns. After which I filed formal complaints with CIGNA, as well as - after the fact - with Delta Dental; who has been made aware of the fraud that was perpetrated on them as well. Finally the Dental Broad got involved and as a result - this practice is under current investigation. It should be noted shortly following my formal complaints were filed ; my husband and myself were dismissed from from the Johnston Dental practice.... Again this has very little to do with the amount of money owed to Johnstons Dental, I have paid the bills in full. This has to do with a trust that a large dental group has seriously undermined with their patients and with the insurance companies they contract with. My hope is that as a result of these inquiries into their unethical practices, Johnston Dental will either willingly or under legal mandate stop this practice and live up to the trust placed in them to put their patient's welfare before monetary gain. As an addendum: I just returned from a dental appointment with my new Dentist in Grants Pass: Dr. Pastrell. After a thorough examination and review of X-rays; he reports I have no periodontal disease; that my bone and gum health are good; and the hygienist will be following me for routine Prophy cleanings - every 6 months...... read more

Ok, first off, I normally don't review doctors, dentists, or any medical Institutions. I figure unless they remove the wrong leg or something else, I'll just go with the flow. So, this brings me to Johnston Dental who I've now visited three times in the past three weeks. This dentist office has a vibe to it and a good one at that. Everyone is so friendly and concerned about your teeth. There are two brothers who run the office and I got Matt. He has a great personality and really explained things well. I had a cleaning which went so smoothly and I like that they use a combination of a scaler and the traditional instruments. I then had a visit yesterday to fill in some old fillings and a bit of reshaping of a wayward tooth. It was painless and came out perfect. Highly recommended ! read more

Had fillings done that did not match the enamel of my teeth and was told I wouldn't be able to have it fixed and maybe look at Veneers for future ... Then get 2 root canals done side by side as there was an infection, and infection came back. Get sent to a specialist but my insurance money for the year was used so now I am unable to take care of a lingering infection that i've been dealing with while being pregnant for months now. read more

Most inept dental care I have ever experienced. I went in with a problem with a rear molar which they dismissed as a none issue while performing a fix on another "problem" that I was not aware of and then cleaned only half my teeth. I had to see a more skilled dentist who immediately saw the problem with my rear molar was a huge hole in it's crown that Johnston's dentist and hygenesist missed. I was excited that I found a new dentist in Grants Pass. Everyone in the office was so kind and helpful. Due to unfortunate circumstances, I was no longer employed but opted to keep my dental insurance through COBRA to finish some dental work that had been planned. I made everyone aware that I was not employed and only wanted treatment for what the insurance would pay. I understand that everything is just an estimate until your insurance pays. I called my insurance and I was told that I had coverage. The office stated that I would owe approximately $700. I had the root canal and paid $350. I just went to pay the balance and they say I now owe $1400! I have NOT received a bill with that amount. I was floored. I am more than angry and will look for a dentist that follows through on insurance billing. Very poor communication from the billing department. Whatever you agree to, get IN WRITING what your maximum balance could be. I am so disappointed. The assistants and Dr. Shane are such great people but I can not recommend due to the poor communication and SURPRISE charges. If I could take back the one star, I would. read more
