I visited Haas Moto Museum with my family last weekend, when I was in Dallas for a few days. It was…read morea surprise hit with all of us. There were six of us, and I wouldn't describe any of us as motorcycle people. I decided we should visit the museum mostly due to its location (by where we had brunch) and because I always want to visit a place I haven't been before when I visit home (since I've been to most of the places on the beaten path, we now often get surprised by gems in the city that are off the beaten path). But wow. We were really blown away. So what is it? The Haas Moto Museum is a motorcycle museum, and their museum's about page sums it up well: "The Haas Moto Museum was founded by the late Bobby Haas and his partner, Stacey Mayfield, with a singular vision: to elevate motorcycles beyond mere machines, showcasing them as rolling works of art. Bobby's creativity, passion and fearless curiosity shaped every corner of the museum, establishing it as one of the most unique motorcycle museums in the world." I may not know much about motorcycles, but I had a great time wandering through the museum. Some of the custom motorcycles were incredible. And the historical motorcycles (all labeled with their manufacturer, year, and additional information)? I loved walking chronologically through them. The staff also made our visit even more wonderful. The Facilities Manager Brent and the Museum Engineer Chris were amazing; between the two of them, they gave us a great explanation of the museum and its collection, walked around with us a bit and pointed out some special pieces/motorcycles, and showed us around the shop where they work on custom motorcycles. The facility is also great - down to the little shop and weirdly great bathrooms they have in the building. They even have an area where you can enjoy a complimentary K-cup coffee or tea while watching a document about Bobby Haas. If you love motorcycles, I can't recommend Haas Moto Museum enough. But the surprise of our visit was that I also recommend it to people who don't care much for or about motorcycles at all. The motorcycles are beautiful - even to an uneducated motorcycle novice like me. We spent way more time here than we had expected to - because we were enjoying ourselves so much. It was one of the best surprises of my visit home. Check it out!

Highlights for me were the Orson Welles' car, the story of his War of the Worlds radio broadcast, old Bibles, flintlocks, spears, and Hollywood props. When we thought the tour was almost over Stephanie led us into the vault - where many of the more sensitive relics are stored. At one point Glenn Beck even stepped into the vault to say, "Hi." Our tour took 1 hour 45 minutes! It was a wonderful experience.

One of which is tree limbs blocking important street signs, and blocking movement on the sidewalk, which is not only a violation of State law, but a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The tree limbs are also blocking visibility to safely exit the alley, and on to the main street. They keep promising to address the issues, but they have not. All they give is lip service. They just do not care. They harass citizens for ridiculous things, yet they do not take care of the urgent ones.

As u can expect, there wasn't any traffic that evening to report, just a few of us puttering about the neighborhood. It was so beautifully done, a lot of the neighbors worked together you can tell. There was police presence so I felt safe the entire time. A few years ago when we came out, it was insanely packed and we only got to troll a few of the outside streets... This was a TOTALLY different experience and I highly recommend going on a weekday or day less likely than others. I can't wait to go back next year!

Yes, the parking situation was crappy but Melissa is a developing town and the infrastructure (roads, sidewalks, parking lots, etc.) is also being built out at the moment. But there were plenty of neighboring lots that allowed anyone not arriving right at opening (8 am) to find parking! Small walk over to the Walmart lot where the event was so no big deal. The weather really showed up and was overcast with a breeze so the heat didn't feel quite as glaring as it could've! There were special edition hot wheels toy cars for sale, with a purchase of Mobil 1 oil. There was also a gazebo with hot wheels toys set up for the little ones to enjoy. Arizona tea was one of the vendors there. Plenty of photo ops for former hot wheels cars, an F1 car or two, and local cars that were signed up to show. Highly recommend for car enthusiasts, families looking for a morning activity to occupy the kids up until lunch, and anyone with dogs because we brought our pup! They didn't have bathrooms but the Walmart is fairly new still and they have actual bathrooms (way better than if port-a-potties were rented IMO. The event is free to enter and stroll around, so definitely worth the drive up from Dallas or anywhere in the DFW area really.

I believe most of its usage is usually musical artists and small intimate concerts, but I was here to see a play. Specifically, I was watching "A Christmas Carol", a work I have always been fond of for my entire life. This was a special one hour adaptation of the play, written by Dr Andrew Harris. We did not come to McKinney specifically to see the play, but while we were there we were looking for a particular bookstore. Tiny Tim was outside the Performing Arts Center drumming up people to come in and watch the play when my wife asked him (really her) where we would find the bookstore. When we got to the bookstore, wouldn't you know, there was Dr Harris, doing an Author/Writer visit. How could we not take that as a sign and attend the play! Glad we did, it was a great experience!
