We connected with Allen's Tree Service about 6 weeks ago and got an estimate to work on two trees. The first was a tall maple that we wanted the canopy raised. The second was a cherry tree that was dying. We wanted it dropped and the roots dug out. This was our third estimate and easily exceeded the competition so we awarded the job to them. They then took the initiative to call "Missouri One Call" to avert any issues. Next they let us know when they had us on their schedule. On the scheduled day they were prompt and very courtious. Not a speck of debri was left behind. In conclusion, they performed our request perfectly and much better than other tree services we've employed in our past. read more

I had Allen's out a couple of years ago (2019) to get a bid for tree services and landscaping. When we got the bid we determined that we couldn't afford the service and decided to hold off till 2020. COVID ruined our plans for service in 2020 due to our uncertainty about having anyone over during the pandemic. We now know this wouldn't have been an issue, but it is what it is. So, this morning I called to get an updated bid. The woman who answered the phone asked "So I see we've been out and provided bids on tree services, mulching and landscaping. Are you really planning on doin the work this time?" The rudeness of the question and her tone really put me off. I told her my family's financial situation really wasn't any of her business, and maybe she should be aware that COVID was a factor. I then told her that the way she asked really made me want to take my business elsewhere. She then doubled down on the question! She said they're highly rated and customer oriented. And they don't want to waste their time giving me bid if we're not gonna use them! At this point I, as politely as I could, told her that yes we are ready to get the service done, but under no circumstances would we be hiring Allen's to do the work. And the reason we'd be using some else was because of her. Her rude and condescending attitude lost Allen's the business. Please get this woman off the phones. She has no business talking to customers. P.S. Unfortunately, I can't remember the woman's name. And I'm not calling back to ask for it. read more

We had a tree knocked down during a recent storm. We called multiple places. They were the only ones that had someone out that day, with a good price and quick turnaround. 24 hours later, the tree had been hauled off, and the stump and roots ground down. We can't recommend them enough! read more

Superior quality tree removal. They took down a Pin Oak that was about 70' tall. Outstanding on-site customer service and great service from the office. As a novice to tree removal, I was super impressed with the tools to move the tree once it was down and the stump grinder. Raked and cleaned every step of the way, friendly and courteous. Left the yard as they found it, minus one huge tree. As far as pricing, I only called Allen's because I've watched them work on my neighbor's trees and other small jobs for us. read more

We had a very tall, dead tree removed from our backyard. It was on a hill leaning into the property of 2 of our neighbors. I was wondering if any tree service could successfully remove this tree, without part of it falling into our neighbor's yard. Well, all that fretting was for nothing. Allen's Tree Service successfully removed the dead tree without one branch falling into our neighbor!s yards. Not only that, they went above and beyond in every aspect of the tree removal. They protected our grass by placing some type of ground shield on the ground to protect our grass from rivets from the crane they used ( the tree was very tall and needed a crane to reach top branches). Then, when the final, largest part of the tree was cut down, they prevented grass damage by placing other large logs from that tree on the ground where the tree was to fall and those logs absorbed the fall. The grass was left perfect underneath. The attention to detail was amazing! The men were very professional and courteous and seemed very, very experienced. They cleaned everything up perfectly. Their price was very reasonable and the two times I talked with office staff, they were very kind and professional. I really can't say enough about how impressed I am with Allen's Tree Service and I highly recommend them! read more

On July 12, 2024 the winds were very strong and the 40' white pine tree at the corner of our house was uprooted and fell across our driveway. The first company I called didn't call back right away (called 3 days later) so I called Allen's Tree Service. I was told because of the dangerously high winds that none of their crews were working. When I explained that we couldn't use our garage and I was having total knee replacement and needed to get in through the garage, they asked if I could send pictures. I did and a polite gentleman immediately called me back and said that he would need to drive to get a bigger saw and would be out in an hour. He showed up and gave us an estimate. I thought it was high but had nothing to compare it to and we were in a bind and grateful for the quick attention. He explained that he would cut up the big tree trunk to give us access to our garage and that another crew would come later in the week to dispose of the remaining debris. They came and cleaned up the yard very nicely and ground out the stump. It was several weeks before they could come back out and put a load of topsoil in the area because the ground was frozen. All in all, we were very happy with the work and timely service read more

- Communication with in the company is horrible - Communication with the customer is unprofessional and borderline rude - Takes weeks to resolve any issue because no one at Allen's Tree Service will talk to each other - Only interested in getting paid, not with satisfying the customer - Does not take credit cards Overall, my experience with Allen's Tree Service was not good. Everything started out okay with a prompt bidding of the job, but after that the communication with Allen's fell apart. The original contract said that the work would be done with in 2-12 weeks, which seemed like a long time because our branches were hanging out of the tree and on some residential power and internet lines. About a week after signing the contract a storm took one of the broken branches out of the tree. The way the quote read it was $600 to remove two broken branches and an additional $150 to trim the rest of the tree to keep it 5 feet away from the utility lines and garage. With one branch now gone, I immediately contact our sales rep, John, who put the original contract together to ask if he could come out and reevaluate now that 1/2 the branches we needed removed were no longer causing a problem. The next day, with out any prior notice or word from John, a crew came out to do the work and later that week I was billed for the full price. When I replied to billing email, Diann, who handles billing and scheduling, was very defensive, and wanted to know why we thought it would take 2-12 weeks for the work to be complete. She said she never heard anything from John, and that she always worked to schedule anything broken or hanging right away. She claimed I was called but there were no missed calls, voicemails, or emails from Allen's Tree Service. After many voice mails and emails I was finally able to get a hold of John about a week later. He said not having to remove the one branch was a minor thing and it would not have reduced the price at all. After pointing out that the way it was written seems like half the work was done by nature he said the real cost was to bring the equipment out there and it wasn't a real representation of the per branch cost. This may be true, but then the bid should be written to reflect these costs. When the crew came out to fix the tree, they did not even complete the work as stated in the contract, there was a branch much closer than 5 feet to the utility lines and another one close to the garage. Since John was not budging on price, we insisted that a crew be sent out to complete the contract as written. John promised he would come out and take a look to see what exactly was missed. John told us not to pay the bill, and he would make sure everything was taken care of. John did not come out to look at the tree for another week. During this time I emailed with Diann to try and find out what was going on, and how to get in touch with John and to request a re-quote of the work. Every email from her was defensive, and she acted like I was in the wrong. She repeatedly told me she would not "get into it with me" and that I needed to call John. And then said that she didn't know why John wasn't answering his phone, but surely he would call back shortly if a message was left, and everyone at the office always answers every phone call and email immediately. I explained that I was reaching out to her because I needed help contacting John, and she basically told me that it wasn't her problem. Eventually my original bill became past due. Since John told me not to pay until all the work was complete I responded to the office asking why the account had not been put on hold. It turned out John had not communicated anything we talked about to the office at all. As far as the office was concerned the job was finished to my satisfaction weeks ago. Eventually a crew was sent back out, with a phone call the day before this time, and the following day received a curt email asking that I "please release payment" for which I needed to mail in a check. Everything else was done electronically over email, including signing the contract. So to add to the list of issues this company cannot take credit card payments. I am glad to be done dealing with Allen's Tree Service. I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

The men doing the estimates and the tree trimmer's are great. My husband and I have called in and talked to both women in their office, they were VERY rude throughout the process. I gave them a call back today since we were content with the tree service hoping to find them in a better mood to check on our locust tree having a caterpillar issue. No such luck! Mean and hateful as usual! I work in customer service myself and was taken aback. I WILL NOT USE OR REFER THEM TO ANYONE! FYI, I work for an insurance company. I needed front landscaping in a very bad kinda way, after five heartfelt years of trying to coax a beautiful English garden out my clay soil in a loving manner that proved entirely useless and fruitless and ugly. I used Allen Tree Service for tree removal and tree trimming earlier in 2012. Then I noticed on their flyer that they do landscaping. So -- known merchant -- I called them, having been extremely satisfied with their earlier work. Mike came out, and we reviewed the area to be considered, including a discussion of mulch vs. rock vs. other ground covering, light, sun, drainage, likes, dislikes, desires re evergreen vs. vacant shrubs during winter. Mike had immediate ideas and suggestions, including keeping one of the shrubs I already had. I thought they'd all go, so this was a nice surprise. He had a book of all the landscaping materials he was suggesting, showed me the pictures of the shrubs, drew a map, walked around and around. He was satisfied. So was I. Within a week, I got the paperwork. We were verging on October, so Mike's suggestion was get it moving. THAT I understood. I am not an expert on shrubs or landscaping. I know there are people who are SET on what they want and where they want it. I let Mike take the lead, and that expedited our process. Because I have no deep knowledge of selecting shrubs and accoutrements for my front yard, I always leave that to the experts. And I have friends who want to hand-pick the shrubs, their size and their placement. I rely on the experts. It took me a couple weeks to get half of the cost to them to solidify the contract. Then I was sweating the time. 'Cause I know they're not just sitting around waiting for me to send them money to get the job going. Mike called in early November, saying they were coming. What would have taken me five or six weekends to do (or more, even if I was getting the same shrubs), they did in ONE day, including the mulch, reaming out all the other shrubs I'd left after trying to get them out, and perfect placement of the new shrubs. I came home to a beautiful front yard. Major curb appeal. Magically. Now, for those of you who remember my orbital blowout from a yard accident -- that was from trying to remove the shrubs in the front to make way for new landscaping. I thought that would be helpful and a big cost-savings. Well, that accident cost me more than $500 in medical expenses, lost work, surgery, pain and suffering. Itemized on my proposal from Allen's was shrub removal for $75. I've taken a BIG lesson on this one. And that is: Call first. read more

After sending the following email to Allen's tree service, Kevin Gallagher called and said he is unwilling to work with me on pricing charged, in spite of the way the contract is misleading. I informed him that I asked three seperate people prior to my email and all read the contract the same way I did, which is to say the charges would be $375. The following is the email I sent in an attempt to avoid taking this matter to a third party: "I'd like to ask that this be forwarded to a manager please. I'm very dissatisfied with the way this contract reads. As someone who was referred to your company and someone who has referred others since, I feel mislead, whether intentional or not. It reads "Fertilizing 3 pin oaks to improve vigor" and "system insecticide 3 Pin Oak for prevention of new stem galls" each for $375 exactly, with no total at the bottom to indicate that these are separate, but coincidentally the same, charge. I was under the impression that they were both included in the one charge of $375. No one contacted me to go over the proposal, but just left a copy on my front porch. Had I believed the fee was $750 to perform this service, I would have gotten other competitive bids. We are not cheap people, nor are we without means to pay the bill; however, we believe very much in being treated fairly. In this case, we have not been treated fairly and do not believe we should be charged for the service we were not aware we were agreeing to because of the way the contract reads. Please advise ASAP so we can put this matter to rest." read more

Very, very satisfied with the work. I had a dead tree removed from my front yard. I think it took Allen's Tree Service all of 15 minutes to remove the tree and grind the stump. The work was excellent. The crew cleaned up all of the small twigs that fell from the tree when they ground it up. They left my yard in prestine shape. Excellent work, really great price, and super nice folks to deal with. I'll use them again for all of my tree service needs. I was very dissatisfied with the services. They were very broad with their quote and made me feel like they were planning on doing more work when they said they would clear out the trees growing over our fence line. They left a 15 foot tree growing diagonal in my yard. I called them multiple times to try and come up with an agreement as I felt they did not do all the work and left one growing clear over my yard. They were not willing to work with me to make a customer happy. I was extremely reasonable with my requests and they just said. Sorry, but there is nothing we can do. Very unclear and unhelpful. Overpriced as well. I thought I hired a professional. Be careful and have them mark all trees before agreeing to any work or you will be disappointed. read more

Terrible customer service. I would not recommend. I was told to mail in the contract. Two weeks later, I never heard back from Allen's Tree Service, so I called. I was told that it would be 6 weeks. So, had I not called, I would have been waiting for 8 weeks to receive my service. I cancelled and now have to pay $75. I think a response before 8 weeks is a reasonable expectation of a company you are doing business with. I was treated like a pest by the receptionist and she would not answer my questions. We started using Allen's in 2011 to do our lawn and tree and shrub maintenance. We also had them do some additional work to resolve erosion issues and some new landscaping. The first year they were great. No problems at all. Last year however the quality of their service began to suffer. By the end of the season, we had issues just getting them to show up to complete the services we had with them for. We also had an incident of property damage that we saw happen that they would not own up to. We were not looking to get anything out of them for it. Just to be more careful in the future. Unfortunately, there will be no future here for Allen's now. We have switched to another service provider for this year. So far it has been a night and day difference. Also, if you are a residential customer, do *not* even think of using them in the winter for snow removal. Their charge is outrageous for the couple of minutes it takes them to drive a truck up your driveway and drop the blade and then back out. They then drive away leaving several inches of compacted snow that you end up having to shovel anyway. read more

After reading the response I received from the review, from the company I was reviewing, i feel the need to say...an estimate is so important as it will convey to the customer if the company is willing or not to do the work. A customer makes their decision based upon how well the quote goes and needs to know just what will be done. Apparently, this company was not willing to do this but I did find a company who was and he did trim the tree limbs away from the house as well as the dead ones and had no qualms about it. He went over what he was going to do in a respectful understanding way. Just for the record, the passionate fumes coming from me that day were from this companies uncooperative responses in what he would do to help before he came to do the work. What a sad quote experience it was. *Customers, make sure whoever you get to do the work for you that they show you just what limbs they will be removing and what branches will be trimmed back before they come out to do the work. You pay alot of money to have a tree trimmed, you deserve a well communicated quote. read more

My review is mostly very good with a few caveats The good: Allen's is very timely. I called 10-15 places to get bids & Allen's was 1 of only 2 who called back. The 2nd took a week & I'd already asked Allen's to do the work by then. They were good about returning my calls w/in 24 hours & calling ahead when they were going to be here. Many places don't so that's a big plus to me. They had to come back for an hour or so on the 2nd day.They call ahead to get approval & let me know that they were going to be here. All the workers seemed to work hard & know their jobs well.They went above & beyond cleaning up the brush they cut. I'd paid some neighbors $100 the weekend before Allen's came to trim back shrubs & they left some of the brush. Allen's cleaned that up without even asking even though I didn't expect them to. I appreciate them going the extra mile with cleanup. The crew was very friendly and responsible. Everyone at Allen's was easy to talk to. The bad: I had a lot of brush to cut. Allen's did an excellent job with the stuff by the street, including a tree,which needed to be clear cut.On the other parts of the yard, I told them to cut back the shrubs but not cut them down.Some of them got cut down. This was especially a problem near the house where I explicitly told them that there were a lot of shrubs and a few trees.I wanted the trees cut down because they were too near the house but to cut back the shrubs/plants & not cut them down. The back of the house was clear cut so all the plants were cut down.Some of the other plants near the house were clear cut too. The mixed: Tony called me the next day (today) and said he was sending a couple of guys over to finish trimming and spray roundup. I agreed but said I wanted to talk to them first bc the crew on the first day had cut things I'd told them not to. Tony gave me a nonpology of sorry but we usually don't have that problem (and repeated "we usually don't have that problem w/o the sorry). He never said he'd do anything about the problem (except tell the guys today to talk to me 1st) so I felt like he was brushing me off. But he called later & will check out the problem so kudos to him. I'm glad that they'll be looking into it so it's less likely to happen w other customers. I didn't want them cutting any shrubs/plants (except 3 trees) by the house today or spraying roundup on the stumps of the ones by the house they'd cut yesterday.Tony said that he'd tell today's crew to talk to me before doing anything. Unfortunately, they didn't get the message & had already cut down a shrub by the front of my house (one that I'd paid the neighbors to trim) by the time I noticed they were there.They assured me that the shrubs would grow back (which I knew but I didn't want them cut down and I'd just paid someone to trim them) & didn't spray roundup. The crew was friendly & worked hard but much was on stuff I didn't want. I'd recommend Allen's w a caveat.They do excellent work &you can count on them to show up when they say they will,which in my experience is a problem with some of the other companies. The people are friendly and professional.The caveat is that if there are things that you want trimmed instead of clear cut, make it very clear what those are. You probably need to write it down on a list,take pictures & maybe tie flags on the things you want trimmed vs clear cut vs left alone before the crew gets there or else be out there a good portion of the time that they're there to supervise. This may apply to other things as well. Shortly after I posted the review, Tony called. At 1st he was defensive & accusatory IMO. He started by saying that I'd misrepresented things & been unfair even though he never said anything I'd misrepresented except that he'd said he was sorry. Not a good way to start the call IMO. I said that my review said that he'd said "sorry" & he agreed it did. (So why did he accuse me of misrepresenting that?) I said I'd noted the good & bad & tried to be fair. He agreed I had. It went better after that.Tony apologized & will investigate.Apparently,he'd planned to all along but hadn't told me(& seemed upset that I didn't just know he would).I appreciate that. I understand problems & miscommunication occur.It's how a company handles it that tells me about the company IMO.So kudos to Tony for calling.I'll update this review when I hear more about what they've done in response to the problems of the wrong stuff getting cut and the 2nd crew not talking to me before they began work. They seem committed to working things out - & more importantly for you, fixing communication problems going forward - so I'm optimistic. Bottom line: I'd use Allen's again. They do good work &are dependable,efficient (don't waste time) & professional. They seem committed to doing a good job. But I either need to be out there supervising them or do a fair amount of prep work so that the correct things get trimmed or cut down. This may only apply to large jobs. read more

We hired this company to cut down several trees in our backyard & neighbor's yard that were hanging over the property line. The sales rep that was sent out promised that everything I wanted would be done. I had all the proper paperwork signed by myself & neighbors. The day the crew showed up to do the work, the foreman was dismissive & condescending of me. He told me I didn't know what I was talking about & that he wasn't told to do the things I was discussing. I watched the sales rep put the instructions in the notes on his computer. This foreman & crew did exactly what they wanted. Only half of the work I contracted them for & paid for was completed. They left a pile of wood in the middle of my backyard & watched myself along with my 10 yr old son try to move all the debris. I contacted the company. The sales rep came back out, took pictures & told me the owner of the company would be made aware of the situation. It took 3 phone calls to them to finally get an answer that they would come & actually finish the job I had paid them for. The one thing I asked was that the original foreman was not ever back on my property. The day they showed up to correct the job, that foreman was part of the crew. I was told per the sales rep that the owner wanted this. The job was completed as to the specifications of the original bid/contact. However, if a company is so willing to dismiss/disrespect a customers only request...I would say not to hire them. And I will never have their company on my property or recommend them to anyone. read more

They came out to do a free estimate, which they did, and I greatly appreciated their time. I would have gone with them, however, I asked to see samples of the wall material they were proposing, and asked for a few other options as far as some of the plants and materials. Received a message back saying they had no wall samples to show, and they selected what they felt were the best choices, so that meant no flexibility. And that was it. Contacted them two more times with absolutely no response. That just didn't set well with me, and since it meant a lot of my money, I tried a couple more places, one of which was Poynter Landscaping. Wonderful service and free estimates also! Was able to see wall samples, and they were flexible in their materials, plant options, everything. Excellent customer service, too. So, while it was a disappointment initially, it worked out wonderfully in the end. Just with a different company. I'm sure others have had a different experience, but that was mine. read more

They removed two trees, including the stumps, from my yard and followed up with a major regrading of my yard to improve drainage and completed the job by laying sod. Excellent work all the way around and the crews were friendly. And not only did they do a good job, but they quoted me a firm price in advance, not an "estimate". I was satisfied with the actual work, however, the staff at the Wentzville location is absolutely HORRIBLE!!! The "manager" Diann was completely rude to me and told me that I could not use a coupon for the service. The coupon did not even expire until 10/15/14 and I was told that I could not use it! We spent over $600 on their service and the coupon was for $50 off. When I called to ask her why I cannot use a coupon that does not specify and limitations to using it and was not even expired, she yelled at me and said I am not dealing with you and then proceeded to hang up on me. Of course she will say that I yelled at her when I never once cursed at her and I was an unhappy customer because she hung up on me so of course I talked louder, but did not yell. I will never use this service again even though the actual job that was completed was excellent. Diann should NOT be a manager and needs to work on her people skills because she is costing this company their business. I am also reporting to the BBB. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE! Go through a different company would be my suggestion! read more
