Had no idea the Allentown Service Plaza had a Yelp page!! I am a frequent flyer of ASP, and every experience is as good as it can be for a service plaza. There's tons of parking and signage so you know where you are going. Plenty of food options, none of them are fantastic, but they are all good and get the job done. The Dunkin is a nice addition. There are plenty of tables and the team does a good job of keeping those clean too. The restrooms are large and usually clean. There's always custodial staff in there cleaning things up. The gas area sometimes gets a bit busy, since there really aren't a lot of pumps, but overall its fine. As far as a service plaza in PA goes, this one is solid. read more

In June on my way home from Atlantic City I stopped to get a drink and use the facilities. I left my purse in the ladies room. When I realized it was missing I called them to see if ir was turned in. The girl checked and told me it was not. I figured it was gone. I was already home. I had to replace all of my cards , my license, my insurance cards,bank cards. All of them. Six weeks later I received a call from the manager there telling me my purse was in lost and found if I wanted to go and get it. I was thrilled. My husband and I took a ride the next day back to the Allentown service center and they gave me my purse with everything still in tact including my money in my purse. Worst ever. Young kids running the food options. They wete playing around from food options to the next. Not waiting on customers. Sbarro's pizza was all dry and burnt. Ordered chicken meal at Roy Rogers. They charged us for full sandwich meal but gave us a slider. My daughter had the tiniest purest of mest.lije a thumb nail suxe abd they were laughing. A lot if chicken cooked just sat there. What wete they doing with it? Charging us full price meals but only giving us a slider then arguing about it. Don't trust them on bit. Those from Auntie Anne's running g over to Dunkin to flirt and fool around. Annes said they didn't even have cheese sauce for the pretzels. Makes me think they were going to party with all this stuff afterwards. Kids had no adult in control. The only polite staff was a person that checked me out at 7 eleven. One of what I call a "cookie crumb review", as much to warn myself off from going again if at all possible as to warn off the rest of the Yelp community. The one saving grace of this place used to be Starbucks, but it's been chased off in favor of the slowest Dunkin Donuts on the planet. On the last two times we've been through, at non-peak hours on weekdays, there were lines of 4-10 people waiting for orders, very little acknowledgment from the staff of our existence waiting to place an order (I waited literally five minutes to simply order a coffee, then waited nearly ten minutes for it to be done; I was desperate for coffee but next time I'll go to the Seven-11 next door, which is saying something because it took 10 minutes in line to buy a coffee there last time I tried). I'll spare you the redundant review of Roy Rogers, but we had made the mistake of leaving lunch too late and were starving, so tried Famiglia instead since, you know, we're never going to Roy Rogers again and there's only so many Auntie Annie's pretzel bites you can eat. Big mistake: possibly the worst pizza I've ever had by the slice. I won't bore you with details. Just do not get this pizza. The sort of sullen service and unclear line were just icing -- turned, bitter icing -- on this stale cake. Throw in restrooms that have persistently been under service (half of everything closed) and have a below average maintenance profile (I will spare you excruciating detail here) despite there being a staff person always on duty somewhere around the plaza -- no. I'd rather exit the turnpike next time and cost us some time instead of coming back here. If I wanted to have the experience of lining up for the urinal, I'd go to a concert at the Meadowlands instead of traveling the Northeast Extension. The kicker here is they've ripped out the EV charging stations at this spot for reasons unknown. They were there last time, now they're gone. We weren't in an EV this time, but this is definitely a very suspicious direction they're going in. I'm going to add my final peeve here because it's bizarre: this is one of those service plazas that serves both northbound and southbound traffic where they've managed the exit/entrance ramp such that you are traveling on the LEFT SIDE (of a divided lane set up with a permament jersey barrier) when coming on and going off. It is extremely bizarre but outright dangerous because the WRONG WAY sign intended for the other lane is fully visible as you come around the curve into or out of the plaza, so it really looks and feels for an instant like you are actually going the WRONG WAY because you're on the LEFT SIDE. Multiple times, despite being aware of this, I have nearly put my foot on the brakes with a brief moment of panic that I was in fact going the wrong way. This is terrible design and the whole design of this plaza needs a serious rethink. (Hickory Run, further north, has a similar problem but the overall service plaza isn't quite as bad as Allentown). If you can skip this one and go on to Hickory Run (northbound) or stop at Hickory Run first (southbound) I'd suggest that one instead -- it's just average, with a Starbucks and a Burger King to make things a little better. read more

Thank goodness for the Allentown Service Plaza! It is an oasis on the endless mile stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and has saved me from disaster many times through the years. The plentiful clean bathrooms are always a plus, but when combined with open grass areas outside and a variety of restaurants inside, you really can take care of everything you need in order to keep yourself moving. The gas station is on your way back to the somewhat confusing entrance to the turnpike, so pay attention if you need gas- everything here is a one way street.There's good news if you are heading north- the next turnpike exit is just a mile or two up the road. Southbound has a much longer wait for anything other than jersey walls and construction, so plan accordingly. read more

[591] Stopped here twice during a snow storm. Plenty of parking along with tons of gas pumps. Only rest stop I encountered on the 120mile hike from Philly to the Poconos. Not a ton of food choices but definitely has the basics like chicken, pizza and starbucks. Power went out due to the storm and was happy to see the massive generator kick in almost immediately. Tables and bathrooms are clean and definitely a good place to stop and rest. I'll be back. read more

Bathroom was fairly clean. The staff at Baskin-Robbins and Dunkin' didn't have a clue. The ice cream flavors were incorrectly labeled and the staff thought it was fine. The Dunkin' Munchkins were smashed into a box so they were all broken. read more

Absolute Dumpster fire that they jokingly call a business at this location. There is absolutely no respect, effort or integrity from a single person that "works" in this plaza. Upon witnessing a coffee spill I saw more customers try to make an effort to clean it up than any employee. Employees behind the counter at the Dunkin' Donuts-baskin robins would rather scroll through their phone and talk to one another rather than help a single god damn customer. There were 6 people working behind that counter and it took half an hour for them to make 1 milkshake. They literally recreated the "how many monkeys to screw in a lightbulb joke." If there is one positive thing I can say about my trip to this "business" it's that I now know to never come again. read more

I am seldom in Pennsylvania anymore but in the last few years I've made three stops here. Mostly it's a bathroom and Starbucks break for me. Although the plaza is situated on the west side of the Northeastern Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, there's access ramps to and from either direction you're traveling. I stopped here the first time on this trip in the late afternoon. Bathrooms were clean as usual. The line for Starbucks was very long but it moved along. There are signs inside to indicate northbound/southbound over the two entrances just to assure you of where you may have parked unless you're direction challenged. read more

This is a very nice service area. Very clean, bright and a great selection of places to eat. We just stopped to grab Starbucks on our way to Philly. Had we not had dinner plans, we would probably been tempted to eat there. There is also gas, a convenience store and restrooms. They have Starbucks, philly streak gyros and more, Roy Rogers my favorite.. being vegetarian I order two biscuits, side salad $1.99 , small fries, coleslaw, all adds up to below ten bucks. I make salad sandwich piling up tomato slice, cucumber slice add onion from kiosk and lettuce from salad. Add dressing and wallaa you have double decker biscuit sandwich Full meal with fries and coleslaw. You must try this. Easy on/off access from the tollway. Ample parking Day or night. They have quite a lot of restaurants like Aunt Annie's, BBQ joint and a Roy Rogers. I had no idea that Roy Rogers still existed but they apparently do on the PA turnpike. Most importantly the bathrooms look to be pretty clean. My only complaint is the exit to get out of there (the general rest stop) is somewhat confusing. Add some extra large exit signs and this place gets 5 stars. Other than that a great place to take a quick potty break for your travels. read more

Easy access that is similar to the Hickory Run plaza a few miles up the way. Long deceleration ramp but several turns to get to the plaza if you're on the "other" side of the highway. Getting back to the highway is also easy and there is a nice long acceleration ramp too. Inside the plaza are a couple of fast food options, ice cream and coffee, and of course, bathrooms. They seemed to be pretty well attended. Lots of space to find something quiet if you need to catch some z's or just stretch your legs. I also spotted a pet walk area. read more

While the rest stop itself was cosmetically nice, they need another rest stop in the area. Everywhere you look there are people since it's the only stop for a very long time if you're driving on the turn pike. I waited in line at Starbucks for 10 minutes and the line didn't even move, so I went over to the convenience store side for a drink. I was still unable to reach the drink cases since every aisle had at least 3 people blocking it. (And surprisingly there were no buses in the lot!) Please note upfront that this is off I-476, not necessarily where the map is showing it. I thought this was the perfect stop off of the turnpike. It had gas, nice bathrooms, and multiple food options. For food, they had Bassets Turkey (salad, sandwiches), Famiglia pizza, Roy Rogers, Cinnabon, Auntie Anne's pretzels, Hershey Ice Cream, Starbucks, and a convenience store. For soda, each just had standard drink sizes and then shared Coke machines - the kind where you can choose your combo of soda and flavoring (so 100-200 possibilities). There was ample seating inside, probably for 200-300 guests, and also ample restrooms, which were really clean when we were there. read more

This is a must stop when you are driving from Philadelphia to the Poconos. Tons of people stop here for a quick break to gas, eat, or stretch out a bit. Food selection is better than NJ turnpike and looks nicer here. FARMER'S MARKET Best part of this would have to be the farmer's market. Tons of fresh produce here. You will not be disappointed. Not a good experience. I have been to this service plaza several times and they suffer from a lot of inconsistency. During my recent visit the restrooms were trashed! Three out of four paper towel holders were completely empty and most of the soap dispensers were empty! I purchased some items in the store (at a steep price) and went to get gas. I had to go back into the store and wait in a 10 minute line to get a receipt because they don't keep an eye on their receipt paper levels. I've been frequenting this plaza for 11+ years now (has this even been here 11 years, LOL, I don't know, maybe I'm mixing it up with the Hickory Run plaza) and I've never had a bad experience. So I figured, might as well throw it a shout-out. I took off a star cause I pretty much hate the food choices and hence, never bother eating here, although I guess if you're in a jam and driving for a while, anything will do, even if it is all fried, unhealthy and overpriced. The place is always immaculately clean and every time I visit the restroom, I see maintenance in there, so that's always a good indicator. Customer relations and service is always on point, too. Particularly, at the convenience store inside. The cashiers are always very friendly and greet you with a smile. The beverage selection in the convenience store is pretty dope, as are the snacks. I always skip the line at Starbucks and just head right there, since they have a Wawa-like coffee selection, and it's always hot and tasty. Parking is never an issue either since the parking lot is pretty massive. read more

I arrived at 6:45 pm, a time when dinner should be readily available. I wanted a strawberry milkshake (all afternoon!). Both Hershey's and Starbucks were closed. Scratch that. This particular one is large, clean and had quite a decent eateries. Naturally the pandemic and covid-19 had surge impact on what was open (and naturally it was very empty) but when this is all over I'd love to stop back here when everything is open! read more

I agree with Kathleen. Rest stops tend to be the arm pit of bathroom stops. I have traveled across country over 8 times..... west to east & north to south. This is definitely one of the nicer ones for sure. They have a family bathroom inside and outside of rest area. Never have I not had soap, paper towels, toilet paper, seat covers.... always have been clean. Shelves stocked in convenient store... lots of choices to eat. A fine rest stop off the Turnpike aka 476. Nothing crazy. Starbucks for tired drivers, Auntie Anne's, Hershey's and Cinnabon for unhealthy snacks for the kiddos. Pizza, BBQ, and Roy Rogers for meals. Who knew Roy Rogers still existed? If I were eating here I would be a tad disappointed by the lack of healthful options, but that's to kinda be expected. There's convenience store and of course gas pumps separated by cars and trucks too. Reasons I enjoyed this rest stop: -the outdoor seating, most of which is the in shade. Picnic for larger parties as well as bistro tables. I would definitely choose to eat out here versus inside! There were birds chirping, greenery and music playing over the speakers. We actually enjoyed sitting out here on a gorgeous morn waiting to meet the girls Grandpa! It was the perfect spot to quickly write this little ditty (not about Jack & Diane) while the girls ate their $3.80 pretzel and did cartwheels. -they have a pet run. -they have a family restroom which for those who have never been contain a tiny toilet as well as a full sized one. Nothing like some mother/child bonding while simultaneously peeing. *This location is just minutes for Dorney Park making it a easy spot to refuel and refresh before headed home after a day of fun. It's also the stop just before Jim Thorpe. **It's on a Blue Star Memorial Highway dedicated to the armed forces that served this fine country. read more

When it comes to service plazas, you could do a lot worse. The bathrooms were clean enough from what I saw during my short pit stop. A few eateries offer a little something for everybody, nothing fancy. I grabbed a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks and I must say I was very disappointed, considering this was my first of the pre-Autumn season. This may have been due to the fact that there were only 2 baristas working, and one was only working the register, while the other scrambled in vain to keep up. It was only a few people ,but she seemed to be rushing for no apparent reason. I also noticed the area around the Starbucks counter was very messy, with paper towels, straw wrappers, and other various pieces of trash strewn about the floor. Do people actually just drop their filth on the floor and leave it? I stopped at the Allentown Service Plaza yesterday, and I decided to try a bacon cheeseburger from Roy Rogers. Let's just say I could only stomach two bites. I waited over ten minutes for the most underwhelming bacon cheeseburger I have ever ingested. The bacon had no taste, as did the burger as well. The bun had a taste similar to a napkin or straw wrapper. I definitely will not be stopping there again! read more

This service plaza has recently (and I mean like 2 months recently) had a 10 million dollar overhaul, and it definitely looks it, too! We stopped in to go potty, and grab a quick something to eat. There is plenty of parking, and the gas area is HUGE and well lit. Running inside, it was more of a food court, than a service station. Pizza? Yep. McDonald's? Sure! But how about Philly Cheese Steaks, Hershey Ice Cream, Roy Rogers, Starbucks, sandwiches, and more? And be sure to check out the bathrooms, too! Everything is now automated, so it keeps things nice a clean. They also have farmer's markets here, which is big enough to hold it all. read more

Rest stops always ick me out a bit but I've been to Allentown's stop at least twice and it's not so bad. There's a Starbucks for your caffeine needs, plus a couple fast food restaurants if you are desperate for sustenance. Overall, the areas around the building and inside are pretty clean; it's the individual restaurants that need some help. The counter at the Auntie Anne's was littered with receipts which tells me that they don't really clean that counter super often which tells me that I don't want anything to do with the place other than the purchase of a soda. read more

There's this eternal conundrum when it comes to service plazas. On one hand, they sometimes provide the only available restroom, food, and gas for literally miles and miles. But on the other hand, I think I'd rather drive a half a mile off the highway just to not have to deal with these clusterfucks. The bathrooms are magnificent. The stalls go on for days and you don't have to worry about waiting. You DO, however, have to worry about waiting for food. If at all possible, avoid the Cheesesteak place. I waited for about 20 minutes for a sandwich. I actually had to text my husband (who had already gone to the bathroom, gotten sodas, gotten gas, and changed our baby in the time it took for me to order it) and say, "This better be a good fucking cheesesteak." It was. See, the conundrum prevails! Randomly good food with horrific lines. Reliable chains like Starbucks are present (none of this Gloria Jean's Coffee BS). People want to see that at a rest stop, I think. I know I do. 8 hours in the car and a Caramel Macchiatto makes it a little bit better. So, what to do? I don't know. It sure is convenient to get everything in one place. But waiting on long lines with pushy travelers isn't fun either. read more
